I don't know what I expected from this book, but it certainly wasn't the delightful old fashioned read that I got. The book was first published in 1971 and has an even more dated feel to it but is none the worse for that. The writing is excellent and the plot absolutely dotty. Set in Cornwall the story follows the adventures of an innocent authors secretary who falls foul of a coven of witches. Innocent beautiful young women, a dashing hero, old houses, witches dancing naked in the moonlight and a war on tourists, all written in a style that went out of fashion with the twin set and pearls, what more could you ask for. An enjoyable light diverting way to spend a summer afternoon in the garden. Obviously drinking Pumps and eating cucumber sandwiches.
