The Lewis Cousins #3

Too Distracting

Rate this book
As the successful and driven CEO of Lewis Sporting Goods, Dillon rarely has time to eat a home cooked meal, let alone put any time or effort into maintaining an actual relationship. He's been living on fumes and casual encounters for so long that finding love and starting a family never even crossed his mind, until his cousins Gabe and Reardon found women who gave them both.

Laurel has been in love with Dillon since she was nine years old. Unfortunately, he's always seen her as his little sister's pesky best friend. She can't stop her heart from beating frantically whenever he's near, but she's become an expert at keeping her feelings from everyone, especially Dillon. Her secret has been safe, until now...

When Laurel needs help with her business plan, her best friend urges her to seek help from Dillon. Determined to push her feelings aside and focus on her fledgling business, Laurel knows she needs to do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means being treated to indifference and big brother teasing from the man she loves.

Can Laurel work with Dillon and still keep her heart intact, or will things get Too Distracting when Dillon realizes what a beautiful, kind, and generous woman she has become?

Too Distracting is the third in a small-town romance series by Bethany Lopez. Follow the Lewis cousins as they learn about love and loss in Cherry Springs, the kind of place where there are festivals for every occasion and everyone knows your business.

Note to self

And the hits keep on coming. The best friend's sister trope usually pisses me off because the h is always panting behind the H who's sleeping with OW! In this case, he's attracted to the h but sleeps with another woman instead and the H is the chaser! Grrrr I loved this author's cupcakes series but I'll have to skip this series

Here is the thing about this book. Around 7% the hero sleeps with another woman whose name is Karen. I hated that. I don't know why we needed to know her name or that Dillion slept with her. It added nothing to the plot, but heck lot on my nerves. It's a 195-page book for the love of God. Why was Karen added in this book, especially after a certain level of attraction was established between him and Laurel? You can thank Karen for the 3-star rating instead of the 4 I was going to give if things had gone differently. I am making a big thing about this because I read the book in one hour, maybe one and a half so everything was very recent to me as the characters got their happy ending. The story wasn't rushed and the characters took their time explore their feelings, so I didn't have a problem with that.

Dillon is a good guy and he is very supportive to Laurel who needs some encouragement in order to do what she wants to do instead of letting her parents ran over her. He has also a thing for remembering tiny details about her which add to his appeal. Laurel is also a good character, even I wasn't always able to understand her feelings and actions. Jasmine seemed like a good character, even if she seemed to overreact a little in a certain situation. I will keep an eye for her book. Despite the Karen incident, I was able to read the rest of the book, mostly without a problem. I still believe that this author writes good books and I will be keeping an eye for her next works. I do hope for an addition to the cupcakes series.

Although this is the 3rd book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. The author does a great job bringing the small town connections to life. This is a feel good story about frenemies to lovers that will make you believe in second chances.

Dillon and his twin Jazzy are part of the Lewis family. Previous books have focused on thier two male cousins. Jazzy and Laurel have been best friends forever. The two girls took great pleasure in teasing poor Dillon. Dillon has held a grudge over Laurel ever since.

Ahhh, but sometimes love is blind. When an opportunity presents itself for Dillon and Laurel to spend the weekend together, Dillon's blinders are suddenly peeled back. Could it be he was wrong about Laurel all along?

Love the close knit family and everyone butting into Dillon's business. He clearly is the last to realize that Laurel has loved him forever. There is a bit of angst and some fumbling and bumbling by Dillon. Overall, just a sweet romance full of friends, family and love.

Looking forward to seeing the female cousins of this group find their HEA.

My favorite kind of reads are the ones that began in an obvious way, but end up being more than even I could have dreamed. Too Distracting is a throwback to the best of plot lines. Friends, lovers and happy endings. At the center of it all is a devoted community, a loving family and the opportunity for many dreams to become realistic happenings. Like a never ending hug that lights up the heart and uplifts the soul, Ms. Lopez and her casts of love are like coming home.

First things first. That cover. Oh my…and Dillion is a ginger. *swoon* And of course, I didn’t read the first two books in the series but no worries if you haven’t. Ms. Lopez does a great job of getting you all caught up. I will have to say that I fell in love with Rearden so I might be, okay I bought it, his book. Not that I didn’t like Gabe but there is something about a character that is a self-confessed nerd and has an obsession with Star Wars. But I digress…

This book just has all the feels for me. The tropes are many but here you go, childhood friends to lovers, enemies to lovers (as children), and best friend’s brother. I think that about covers it but its so much more than that. You get a sense of how Dillion and Laurel had really been in love with each other since they were kids. At least Laurel had been and just when she thought it was too late, Dillion surprised her. Of course, Jaz (Dillion’s twin sister/Laurel’s BFF) didn’t help matters and how my, I really wanted to slap Jaz at almost the end of the book. I kinda expected it but still, she had no business doing what she did.

Dillion is a great hero. He really had the most to grow in terms of his feelings for Laurel. His journey was slower to build but once he FINALLY figured it out, there was no stopping him. Men can be dense and he is definitely slow on the uptake. When the lightbulb went on, I loved it. All the pranks, all the looks, the conversations from the past…it all made sense to him. Laurel, I really felt for her. From her parents basically wanting nothing to do with her. In fact, the statement from her mother broke my heart. No wonder she spent so much time with the Lewis’ growing up. Regardless of her time with Travis (PIG) and the issues with her parents, she is a strong person. She just needed to figure it out and Dillion was right there with her to guide her.

The rest of the family Gabe, Chloe, Chris, Zoey, and Rearden are a hoot. They care greatly for each other and it shows. Jaz, I’m not sure about. I didn’t like her actions towards the end of the book but overall, she is a great friend to Laurel and a devoted cousin/sibling. I can’t wait to see who knocks her off her pedestal. I want to be Shane but who knows.

I highly recommend picking this book up and getting the other books in the series, too. The pacing is quick, emotions run high at times, the smexy times are perfect and you will just fall in love with the characters.

I'm so so on this one. First Laurel's crush on Dillon seems odd, following their whole lives, yet somehow Dillon didn't know, but everyone else in the Lewis clan did. Didn't seem like that was possible. Laurel came off as a doormat to me when she watched Dillon leave the bar with a woman. Sure Laurel and Dillon weren't dating, Dillon had every right to do what he did, yet days later after witnessing this took a chance to start something, with an expiration date of a weekend only. Then it was funny how Dillon's eyes were opened once sex entered things.

Sure things ended well, they figured things out, the family supported them, but me, I was still meh....

Ever since my love of romance books started I've had Bethany Lopez on my authors to check out list. Everyone seems to love her books! So when Too Distracting, the third addition to the Lewis Cousins series, ended up on my radar, I knew I had to read it, especially after seeing the phrase "small-town romance" in the summery - those are two of my favorite things right there!

The Result? Sweet as well as charming, Too Distracting once again proves that there's so much to love about an enemies to lovers romance.

Too Distracting is told in the alternating perspectives of Laurel and Dillon. One of the traits I enjoyed the most about them was how hardworking and determined they were - Laurel with her joint party planning and flower business and Dillon with his line of sporting good stores. It was always fun to see what troubles - funny as sell as serious - that both careers presented, and I also loved the development that came from them, especially in regards to Laurel and Dillon's romance.

As a heroine, Laurel was very easy to like. She was sweet and smart, and more importantly, her journey wasn't perfect or carefree- far from it actually. When the book opens up, Laurel's re-starting her life after a tumultuous, toxic relationship - one that left her with literally nothing. Worse yet, neither one of her parents support her moving home as well as the new direction in which she wants to take the family business. Anyone in Laurel's position would crumble under the pressure, tension, and mounting negative forces working against; however, Laurel isn't like that. Instead, she takes everything with grace and dignity, and I truly admired that about her. Additionally, it's what made her journey from the first page till the last so heartwarming to witness.

On the other hand, Dillon has his life relatively put together - he has a strong relationship with his family and friends, a business he loves, and two rambunctious dogs to come home too. The only thing missing? Someone to share it all with. Dillon was sweet and charming - the perfect hero. He treated Laurel with such an amount of respect and love, especially towards the end.

The plot in this mostly involved Dillon and Laurel's budding romance as well as as Laurel's new business. The romance was equal parts sweet and hot. I especially enjoyed how it took a while to set up - it wasn't insta-love in any regards. Also, the first part of the book where Dillon was so afraid of Laurel setting a trap/prank had me laughing out loud. As added above, Laurel's business also added an interesting component to the story. Sometimes things did work out a little too perfectly regarding it, but this is supposed to be a HEA romance so I can't hold too much against it can I?

Regardless, Too Distracting is a sweet romance read, perfect for fans of Melanie Moreland or Jill Shalvis! I look forward to reading more by Bethany.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Too Distracting is the third book in the Lewis Cousins series by author Bethany Lopez. I read the first book in the series, and I didn't really love it, but I remember I was interested in reading about Gabe's cousin, so when I saw Too Distracting I decided to check out Dillion's story. I ended up enjoying this book more than the first book in the series. I liked this book, but it didn't rock my world or anything crazy like that. It was a quick contemporary romance read. Overall, it was a decent read. Each of the books in this series can be read as standalone, so I would recommend starting with this one.

Too Distracting is the story of Laurel and Dillion. I connected with these characters so much more than I did with Gabe. It made their romance fun to read about. I really enjoyed how devoted Dillion was to Laurel. Fans of quick, fun reads with a happy ending will enjoy Too Distracting. I don't really have any desire to read the second book in the series, but I would certainly try out something new from this author in the future. I'm not sure if this series is too short or too surface level for me. I liked this book, but I walked away wanting more in terms of character development between Laurel and Dillion.

Bottom line: Too Distracting was a decent read for me. It was quick and pleasant. I enjoyed it more than the first book in the series and I like that it can be read as a standalone. If you are interested, I would check out the series while it is on sale.

Dillon Lewis works with his twin sister Jazzy at Lewis Sporting Goods. Laurel and Jazzy have been best friends since they were small. They used to drive Dillon and his friends crazy, especially when they pulled pranks on them. Laurel is back in town running her parents flower shop since she finally left her demoralizing boyfriend in Houston. Unfortunately she does not have very sympathetic parents. In fact, I can't believe parents would treat a child the way they treated Laurel. Laurel has been in love with Dillion since she was a child, but never told anyone. Since her ex always put her down as well as her parents, she does not have a great self esteem. Dillon is going to Chicago for a weekend for business and needs a plus one. Jazzy tells him how bad Laurel's ex treated her and asks him to take Laurel with him and treat her like a princess.

I loved their time in Chicago. This is where Dillon finally opened his eyes to Laurel as a woman and not a child that drove him crazy. It was fun watching Dillon treat Laurel so well and see how much he enjoys being with her. Also, the path of love is never smooth. I loved how most of Dillon's family knew Laurel had been in love with him for a long time. I always enjoy catching up with characters I read about in previous books. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Unrequited love is quite possibly my favorite and this book did not disappoint. Dillon has always viewed Laurel as his twin sister's annoying friend. Laurel's been in love with Dillon for as long as she can remember. Moving back home without her parents support after a bad relationship Laurel is looking for a fresh start and wants to change Dillon's perception of her. I really enjoyed this story, and the emotions that came with it. I wanted so badly for Dillon to love Laurel, and my heart broke for her when he took someone else home from the bar in the beginning of the book. I appreciated how he helped her stand up to her parents to make her dreams come true. When the light bulb came on and he FINALLY realized that he loved her too, I was happy for them, Laurel definitely deserves her HEA. I listened to the audio of this one as well, the narrator did a really good job. My only complaint, and it's not even that big of a deal, is that her "Dillon" voice was quieter than her "Laurel" voice so I found myself having to adjust the volume frequently. On the plus side, there was no confusion as to who's dialogue it was.

I received an ARC of this book and am writing an honest review.

I have been waiting for the Lewis cousins to return and this book was worth the wait! Dillon and Laurel's story is a sweet romance that shows friends can grow up to be lovers. Although technically Laurel is Jazzy's (Dillon's twin) best friend, Dillon has always protected her like family. When Dillon has to go to Chicago for a conference, he gets roped into taking Laurel with him (with the help of his cousins). Jazzy makes a simple request for Dillon to treat Laurel like a princess but this simple request turns into so much more.

Bethany Lopez has created a magical family in the Lewis family! I love how Ms. Lopez is able to blend a story that features one couple but allows the readers to revisit her previous characters! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the family members stories.

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

A spectacularly sexy friends to lovers romance that was beyond anything I could of imagined this story to be. What starts out as your typical friends to lovers plot, it quickly became something MORE. It was slow burning, sweet, ULTRA sexy and wonderfully entertaining. I had my heart stolen right out of my chest with this book. I really did.

Laurel and Dillion were the best of friends with Laurel who had a crush on him since they were kids. But as adults who slowly start a relationship, passion and incredible love is built between them that leaves a bond that is stronger than any normal relationship. I treasured every moment they spent together and loved watching their love grow. They meshed perfectly together and made the most amazing couple. What a great book!

Too Distracting gets a DELICIOUSLY SEXY FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

I LOVE every single visit with the Lewis family and each one is better than the last!!

Dillon has known Laurel for his whole life and all of his memories are about the ridiculous pranks she's always played on him with his twin sister Jasmine. Laurel has quietly been in love with Dillon since she was 9 years old and constantly hopes that he will see her and want to be with her too. Working together on Laurel's business plan and a weekend away at a sports convention might just be what they need in order to change the way they have always been together.

The Lewis men are super swoony and Dillion is no exception. I loved watching him get to know Laurel as she is today and letting go of the memories of the girl who pranked him all the time. Laurel is such an amazing woman. She's overcome so much in her life and is finally going for what she wants, both professionally and personally. The Lewis family is so supportive and loving of everyone who is in it and I loved watching all of their interactions. I can't wait for Jazzy and Serena to get their HEA!!

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!!!! ** Spoiler free review**
I knew Dillion's book was going to be worth the wait.
Laurel has been Jasmine Lewis' bet friend her entire life, she secretly also had a HUGE crush on Jasmine's twin brother Dillon. AND Dillon a crush on her to..Shhhhh
Laurel is a true survivor, I don't mean she was sick and came out clean on the other side. I mean she went from growing up in a home where there was no love to a love less relationship.
She was truly lucky to have Jasmine, they were always there for each other. Still are as adults.
Now Laurel is a grown woman with amazing idea's for her parents business. But she is meet with alot of road blocks. Literally caught between a rock and a hard place Laurel reaches out for help.
I loved how things kept changing between the 2. Dillon finally takes his blinders off and Laurel just simply needed a shove...FANTASTIC

I'm late to the party - this is my first Lewis Cousins read, but it's not going to be my last.

There are times that we just don't see what is right in front of us. There are times we have to give up some dreams and move on. Then there are times that the planets align and things finally click into place. What happens in this story? Well if I told you there would no reason to read this wonderful story. I will say that is a greatl small town romance with a close knit group of friends and family. Bethany Lopez has a wonderful way of writing that draws you in and makes you care about these characters. I will certainly be going back to read the previous two books and look forward to Jazzy and Serena getting stories!

Ever since I found out that Laurel had a crush on Dillon since they were younger, I KNEW I needed to read this book. These types of stories are one of my favourites. I loved seeing Dillon's perspective on Laurel growing up and vice versa.
I love the little hints in each book that makes the next character mysterious and wanting to know how their story is going to turn out. As well, seeing Gabe and Reardon make appearances ties the stories together so well.

This is book 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone. I love the small town feel of this book, the author really captures that feel and it is so warm and inviting and you just want to stay in that world with these people and never leave. We will all just move right on in.

This is a great friends (enemies) to lovers romance between Dillon and his twin sister's best friend Laurel. One thing that really stood out is their past, Laurel has always had a crush on Dillion but her and Jazzy would pull really terrible pranks on him. This just stands out because most books it is the other way around where they guy is pranking the girl, so I like this little twist. It also sets up the book nicely where Dillon doesn't trust Laurel and he always has to keep an eye on her and of course doesn't see her as anything out then the pesky friend of his sister's.

But when things change they change...and suddenly she is no longer the little girl pulling pranks on him. And I love watching this romance unfold. There are just so many layers to it and things to love.

Not only will you fall in love with both Dillion and Laurel (who to me are both just so amazingly written), but the entire family, friends and even the small town. There is nothing to dislike about this book!

Loved this book and these two are too cute for words. When she finally gets a chance to be one on one with the man she has loved since she was 9 he's the only one surprised at just how good they are. The question is what happens when they return to the real world. A well written story written with care and tenderness. Loved it and love this author. A standalone read that has carryover characters.

Be careful of your sister's best friend! She is the one to steal your heart! Laurel has been Jasmine's best friend forever and has been in love with Jazz's twin brother Dillon for as long. Now adults, their paths cross when Laurel needs a business plan for her party planning ideas. I never get tired of this trope, the story is always heart warming and I love when couples have a long history. But in this case, it's even better. Dillon, a successful businessman does not have time for relationships, though envies his cousins who have found their soulmates. When Laurel finally does get his attention, there is nothing stopping him from going after her...or is there? Throw an obstacle or two in the way, this friends to lovers/sister's best friend story is sure to have you rooting for a happy ending. Being the third book of the series did concern me a little, but it is a standalone, and is easy to pick up without reading the previous books.

This book has a lot of characters, which for a narrator can be challenging, but Lacy Laurel rises to it and nails the performance. Each character has a distinctive voice, and with Laurel's emotional portrayal takes you through the many facets of the story. I also love the way she can switch from true emotion between Dillon and Laurel to teasing between the Dillon and his cousins. She made this book a joy to listen to.

Dillon is one of the Lewis cousins...he and his sister run the family's sports stores. His sister's bff, Lauren, is moving back to town after several years. Not only is Lauren recovering from a bad relationship, but she's his sister's friend and totally off limits...and he thinks of her as a sister...well, maybe not so much now that she's all grown up and smoking hot. Lauren has loved Dillon since they were kids, but she was always friend-zoned. Maybe now that she's back, she can finally get a shot at Mr. Hottie. Lauren is running her family's flower shop and wants to expand, but she keeps getting push back from her parents, who, btw, still think that she should return to her abusive ex. Lauren asks for Dillon's help to write a business plan for her bank loan. In exchange, she agrees to go with Dillon to an out-of-town conference. Things heat up while out of town, but will the pair make a relationship work when they return? Lauren is hesitant because of her insecurities...will Dillon be patient? We catch up with the other cousins as well...that's always fun. Sweet HEA.
