The Handbook on the General Epistles and Revelation is part of the eight-volume Apostolic Handbook Series. In this volume, Jeremy Painter brings his creative pen and deep insight to Hebrews, James, Jude, and I & II Peter while Jeffrey Brickle deftly tackles the Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation. God still speaks through these books today, and if we tune our ears we can grasp His message.
Jeremy Painter is a genius when it comes to the General Epistles. He effectively uses ancient culture to brighten our understanding and apply the books to our day. Incredible scholarly work.
Jeffery Brickle does an outstanding job dealing with the Johannine Epistles. However, while his commentary on Revelation serves the purpose of this synopsis, it leaves much to be desired. It seems to begins with pretribulational leanings, but then seems to divert from a consistent methodology and therefore becomes an inconsistent hermeneutic. The thought process is an attempt to appeal to several views of the book and becomes a tangled mess. Be prepared to do some serious searching beyond this brief commentary.
Overall, a great, highly recommended, work on all General Epistles! It's unfortunate that they were tasked with fitting Revelation into this scope of work.
Very good commentary and insightful teaching and instructive bible knowledge. Would recommend to anyone wanting to be more knowledgeable in the overall plan of GOD.
Good Apostolic commentary of the general epistles and Revelation. A good resource to have on hand. My one complaint is that I wish there was more depth in the analysis of Revelation.
