When Lainey Nickels hires a shifter mercenary to take on the job of rescuing her abducted brother Shane, she has no idea what she will encounter. It definitely isn't the enigmatic Gideon Hunt. He certainly looks like he could take on a jungle full of kidnappers singlehandedly. But Shane is her brother; her responsibility. Lainey isn't going to leave his fate in just anyone's hands. And she brought her passport to prove it. Gideon Hunt would rather work alone and he makes damn sure to remind Lainey of this fact every chance he gets. But his predatory stares and gruff demands don't scare off Lainey. She's annoyingly independent, but her bravery draws him in. She accepts the man behind the brusque exterior and knows exactly who and what he is. To Lainey, he is one of the good guys. But Gideon knows better. Stress and a need for comfort bring the two together in an explosion of passion, reawakening desires both had long forgotten. Neither expected their hearts to get involved.
Lainey knows all about shifters after walking in on her ex in another form. When she needs help finding her brother she has to do the worst thing ever, contact her ex!
Gideon is also a shifter - a panther, his a little moody, but then again when accepting a job he didn't expect a woman to tag along! Gideon and Lainey go on a journey together, and when in a jungle what else is there to do but get a little physical.
I enjoyed this story, Lainey tagging along wasn't the most sensible thing for her to do, I would have gone to the country and stayed in a hotel and waited for news! Lainey wasn't completely useless on the journey which is a good thing and Gideon liked her determination in the end.
I hated this book more than I've hated any book in a long time. Besides the h being a self righteous jerk that really needed to be smacked, the two did not have one single amicable conversation the entire time, outside of banging. But it's lurrrrrrrrrrve, and enough to base a relationship on. Morons.
Lainey Nickels' brother Shane has been abducted and being the typical big sister she hires a shifter mercenary called Gideon Hunt to go and rescue him. Whilst Gideon looks like he could take on anyone on his own Lainey decides that Shane is her responsibility and she should accompany him to go and find Shane - she even has her passport on her to prove that she is serious about it. Gideon works on his own normally and prefers it that way, as he reminds Lainey constantly with words, looks, grunts and demands. However at the same time, even though she is independent, he has to grudgingly admire her bravery. They come together in an explosion of passion - how is this going to work out both for rescuing Shane and what has happened between Lainey and Gideon?
Wow - so this was a delightful mix of story of an incredibly independent and strong woman, a dramatic rescue from kidnapping and a surprise relationship between 2 very independent people. Everything was clearly explained and I could feel all their thoughts, concerns and emotions. The decision at the end was nicely explained and the decision was exactly what I needed as a reader. It's a nice length of story so everything moves along at a good pace.
Her Panther For Hire is a quick, tense and sexy journey of two unlikely people who end up being just right for each other. The action begins early on and while the action packed part is closer to the ending, the tensions between Lainey and Gideon are quite obvious. The annoyance and the sexual tensions. Lainey has hired Gideon, a shifter mercenary, to go in and rescue her brother Shane from a kidnapping/hostage situation – and being the protective, big sister that she is Lainey insists on going along on this rescue even though she is not equipped in any fashion to be of help. More like a hindrance.
Their attraction bubbles beneath the surface of the job they’ve got to do, but eventually surfaces to hit them emotionally hard. Gideon has a troubled past and he’s not looking for, or believing in commitment. Lainey believes she can change his mind, eventually.
I enjoyed this quick story. Lainey and Gideon are both quite stubborn people and the sizzle between them is quite obvious. I’d recommend this one for any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. It’s quick, fun and sexy.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review I love my shifters when I get a chance to read them and I have been meaning to read more of the Howl romance since they play on common tropes in a paranormal sitting. In this one, it is a play on the whole man for hire situation but with an obvious twist. The writing was okay, the heroine and hero just butted heads from the beginning and then made up with some sex. I wished it was more than that as it became action and sex constantly. The action wasn’t bad at all but for a trope romance it seemed it was a play on other tropes then the one I thought it would be. The action only really heated up at the end and whilst given the scenario it was pretty tame. I was expecting for full own shifter mood. There seemed to be many missed opportunities here. As the heroine at the beginning seemed that she wasn’t going to be pushed over so easily but Gideon just was in her face so much that she gave up it seemed. With all the backbone she had , I was rooting for her to be more prepared to avoid advances. As she was willing to travel and go to any length to rescue her brother who wasn’t smart with his own actions. Yet she gave it all up so quickly in the end . The ending was a bit rushed after all this, I felt that it was left open ended. There was a sense of HEA but there was questions left that should be settled given everything. It was a quick okay read that I wished had a little more substance to make it something special
I have to mention this up front because it rubbed me the wrong way a little. I'm not opposed to authors re-doing their older works even under different pen names. This was originally written a few years ago by her pen name and there is a disclaimer in this book saying so. I remember the story fairly well and there were no additions to the book that I recall. Leads me to believe she had this laying around and wanted to add to the Howls Romance series to do something with it I guess. I am not saying its necessarily dishonest but its a grey area for me. Maybe I am the only one who noticed or cares. Those are my feelings about that. I'm not going to take away stars for that just something to think about.
For the story it was quite enjoyable the second time around. It read the same as before but perhaps better editing. Thinking about it now after reading it I just have to wonder if some things were taken away instead of added. I thought perhaps Scott was confronted for lying? I also think there was more to the rescue of Shane than there was. Seems like we're missing something. I dont know I could be wrong.
A harlequin type romance with a paranormal twist that is hands down, sexy, thrilling, and oh so seductive! Her Panther For Hire was full of action from chapter one on. And dealing with C.E. Black's compelling shifters left my heart fluttering wildly. This is sexy, sizzling, and wildly, heart-thumping entertaining! C.E. Black gave me a ride through a romance that was perfectly balanced with romance and action-packed suspense! You can't get better than this!
Her Panther For Hire has such a gorgeous, almost swoon worthy cover. And Gideon and Lainey are so combustible and have perfect chemistry. Gideon's scowls, sexy growls, even his irritation and temper are alpha and sexy as heck. Lainey she is independent, beautiful, smart, and doesn't let fear get in her way. When you put these two together amazing satisfying sparks fly and the passion is undeniable. So. Freaking. Good.
Her Panther For Hire gets a SEXY AND EDGY FIVE SHOOTING STARS! Can I get more please?
HER PANTHER FOR HIRE is a stand-alone story / not part of a series.
Does anyone remember the movie Romancing the Stone? Yes? No? I don’t know why, but this story brought that movie to my mind – maybe it was the arguments that turned into passion?
I enjoyed this sizzling story in the jungle and the kidnapping angle kept me glued to the pages. As a protective older sister myself – who now is protected by two who have become angels – I can understand the overwhelming need Lainey had to interject herself into the investigation despite any fears or misgivings. Plus, who wouldn’t want to spend all day looking at the sexy puma?
I look forward to more fun and sexy reads from Ms. Black.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: HER PANTHER FOR HIRE Series: N/A Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: C.E. Black (as an ARC gifted copy)
Lainey needs help finding her brother her responsibility she needs help so she hires a mercenary Gideon Hunt. Lainey just doesn't know it yet but she is in for more than she ever bargained for. Gideon is standoffish would rather work alone and if looks could kill the looks he gives Lainey would drop her dead. But Lainey herself is fairly independent and will not stand for this commanding male.
And the crazy thing is they find themselves attracted to each other a passion they would have never thought they would find together on the hunt for Lainey's younger brother.
Will they save her brother in time? Can Lainey and Gideon have an happily ever after with each other.
I loved this short story and read it in one sitting the only thing more I wished it had was an epilogue.
I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review.
I love this authors books but this is just a very quick read with an easy plot. I enjoyed this quick fun read despite my dislike of the plotline. This story had one of my pet peeves which is the heroine tagging along when she is not equipped for what is happening. Lainey was brave wanting to get her brother back safe, this was admirable and I know it is what the story is about but I hate when someone hires a specialist to do a specific job, then says they have to go along as well even though they are totally out of their depth. Gideon is a mercenary for hire but we really never get to know him. Just a little bit about his past. I would have liked some of Gideon’s point of view or what his Puma was thinking. This is my honest review of this book.
Lainey's brother is a reporter who got himself kidnapped in Guatemala. Do she calls her ex-boyfriend Scott for help because he is a detective. He calls in a favor to an ex-military panther shifter named Gideon. Lainey's decides that she is going to go rescue her brother with Gideon. He doesn't like it but she goes anyway. Thus behind their two day adventure. This book is all written from Lainey's point of view so I didn't feel connected to Gideon much at all. I didn't really feel any type of love from either character. The book was okay but it fell a little short for me. In my opinion, this is a HFN ending because it seemed like we needed another chapter or two, to tie up a few loose ends.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Lainey Nickels and Gideon Hunt. Lainey gets a mysterious call from her brother where she hears that he has been kidnapped and needs to be rescued. At first she isn't sure he isn't being overly dramatic until she talks to his editor. Now all she knows is she has to save her brother little did she know the man that she hired to help her just might give her a whole lot more. Can they find a HEA or will outside forces make sure that never happens?
This is an amazing story. It has it's ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. I however don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say that I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Her brother has been kidnapped and she need somebody to help her get him back. What an ex-boyfriend tells her about a man who is a mercenary and that can help her she willingly gives up the money for him to go find her brother. But she decides at the last minute that she wants to go with him. Which causes all kinds of trouble for him and her because they argue a lot. The book is fast another Harlequin But as I always say I like the harlequins too. It wasn't really what I thought it was going to be there was enough action in the story and he's a panther shifter and only shifts one time. So no it wasn't anything like I thought it would be
I have to say this reminds me of Romancing the Stone. In the jungles, mudslide, hot, humid, a guy hired to take a girl to help rescue someone in the family. And I love Romancing the Stone. This is just with an added twist. Instead of following a map to find a stone, Lainey has hired Gideon to help find and rescue her brother, who is a journalist. Oh and did I mention that Gideon is a sexy hot panther shifter. And I LOVE panthers. In the beginning, these two are like oil and vinegar. He doesn't like having her with him. Distraction. She just wants to find her brother. Looking at his sexy body is a bonus.
This book is a fast paced, (slightly) slow burn romance about a woman, Lainey, in search of her brother, Shane, who has gone missing. She asks a friend to help her which is how she meets the stern, get-right-down-to-business, and hunky Gideon Hunt. This story is as much of an action one as it is a love story which makes for a fun and entertaining read. I couldn't stop turning the pages. Great book!
I read an arc. Her Panther For Hire is expected to release August 8, 2017. It's also available for pre-order on Amazon.
I really enjoyed this fun, flirty, fanciful side of this author. She takes an ugly situation and typical characters and gives us a wonderful read. Take your males: one irresponsible baby brother, still hooked ex, alpha male mercenary, and a headstrong, proud, independent woman and an adventure. This is a blend she mixes up for some real enjoyment and some sexy kinda loving and man is it done well. Of course I always think her books are much too short because somehow or another it always ends too soon. This is definitely a standalone that is worth the read.
3.5 Stars This story is short, fast paced and a nice read. I liked Gideon and Lainey together. I thought they suited one another and wanted them to get together. That being said, I only saw a tiny bit of chemistry between them. I expected Gideon to at least announce she was his mate but he didn’t. I would have also liked a little of Gideon’s point of view. That being said, I liked that Lainey and Gideon worked together to get Shane to safety. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read.
This book was a very slow read for me, but I don't know why! All the other Howl's series books I have read were devoured in a couple of hours, but this one took me a couple of weeks. I would read a little bit, stop and read another whole book, and then go back and repeat this process several times before I finally finished it. It has action, suspense, romance, but something was just missing. That certain special ingredient that draws you in and doesn't let you go until the end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A really good shifter romance. 💜🐾
Lainey needs to find someone who can save her brother, Shane. The only person she can think of calling is her ex, Scott, and it was, for once, the right call. He calls in a favor from his friend, Gideon. Gideon is the guy to call for situations like this because he's good at what he does... with a little help from his inner panther. This story is well written and has lots of intrigue and passion.💓🔥💓
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
I really like Lainey, she stood up to both Gideon and Scott. She's strong, yet still a bit vulnerable which makes her a Gr8 woman. Now Gideon is one hot & sexy panther shifter. He's got baggage, but he's protective & strong. He's hired for the job of getting Lainey's brother back after being kidnapped in Guatemala. I really enjoyed this story & I recommend it. 5 Thumbs up.
I received an Advanced reader copy of this book for free. Oh how do I describe this book without giving away spoilers. Let me try it :-) Man/beast/soloist comes across stubborn, tenacious, independent woman who drives him crazy in more ways than one. Very adventurous, action packed and steamy PNR that you can not put down until it is through. As always, another great book by C.E. Black, and look forward to reading more :-) Happy Reading
When Lainey's brother Shane, gets kidnapped in another country, she reaches out to her EX Scott, to help her get him back. Scott then get a hold of an old acquaintance, Gideon, who does mercenary work. Only problem is, Lainey plans on going along to help get her brother back. And this is where things get heated in a few ways between Gideon and Lainey. Action packed and lots of adventure throughout this well written self-contained story.
His Panther For Hire is a quick, sweet shifter romance about Lainey a woman whose brother has been kidnapped and Gideon the mercenary she hires to help her rescue him. Loved the way the author brought Lainey and Gideon together, their chemistry and the love hate relationship they have together. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Not much paranormal in this one. Not sure I would even call it that. The H only shifted twice in the book. Once to bathe and then to save her brother. There is no sense of being mates or feeling the mate bond that I've come to expect from a shifter book. There are much better books in this series. This is the first book I've read by this author and probably the last.
This is a quick read with constant interaction between characters. There's just enough back story to give you the basics of each character and if the writer had wanted this could have been a larger novelette, easily. Overall, it fits in nicely with the rest of the series.
An alpha male and a feisty headstrong female. What a pair. He is going to free her kidnapped brother and wants to go alone but she says no way and goes along any way. and then the spark start to fly. Loved this story. It is exciting, hot, suspenseful, fun and so much more. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
A short 106-page quick read. Gideon Hunt a Panther shifter and mercenary is hired by Lainey Nickels to save her brother Shane who has been abducted. Gideon has a rough past that makes it hard to believe in himself, I enjoyed reading how Gideon and Lainey come together.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Laineys brother goes missing in Belize so she hires Gideon a black panther shifter to find him. Some trouble along the way and there’s the sexy bits. A really great fast paced read. Voluntarily reviewed this advance copy
