Shocked by the murder of a friend, FBI Special Agent Kit McGovern vows to bring the killer to justice. Then the shooter kills again, and again … and again. Saddled with an unpredictable partner, forced to put her personal life on hold, Kit doggedly pursues the sniper. Quantico sends a geographic profiler to help identify him, but the killing of a young woman outside the probability zone casts doubt on that technique. As panic grips the Hampton Roads area, pressure mounts, and Kit soon finds herself in the crosshairs of failure—and death.
Linda writes "white-knuckle fiction"--FBI thrillers with a twist of faith--from her home in rural Virginia. She's had careers as a government worker, a stay-at-home mom, and a journalist. Her husband, Larry, worked at the FBI Academy for over 25 years. Together they have three grown children. These days, Linda stays entertained by two cats and a Sheltie who tries to herd them. When she's not writing, you can find her walking in the woods, at the beach or doing something (anything) with dogs.
Sniper! is a trademark Linda J White book full of action, suspense, faith and a little romance that pulls one in right away. FBI Special Agent Katharine "Kit" McGovern has been working with Assistant U.S. Attorney Gail Massey on a trial case concerning the militia. Afterwards, as they are standing on the steps of the Norfolk Federal Courthouse to address the press, Gail is shot and later died. Thinking that this is a retaliation for the trial, a task force is quickly formed with Kit and Special Agent Lincoln Sheffield chosen to be the leaders focusing on people connected to the trial as the main suspects. But as another person is shot and killed with no connection, the task force starts rethinking how to approach the matter. It soon becomes apparent that a sniper is picking ordinary people off around different municipalities, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads area. As police from the municipalities, US Marshalls, Homeland Security, State Police and others join the FBI to work to find the sniper, they have to deal with widespread panic from citizens of the area and pressure from the higher ups as well as the local mayors to solve the case. Kit's boyfriend, David O'Connor, former homicide officer and now teacher at the Norfolk Police Academy, is soon brought on board to help. This is an exciting suspenseful novel with tons of action, danger and frustrating politics. On the romance side, David is really to take his and Kit's relationship to the next level but she is not ready. This causes some friction between them that they have to overcome but Kit has some issues to overcome. Linda White is one of my favorite authors and always guarantees a great griping read.
"No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgement."
Citizens living in cities and towns through-out coastal Virginia find themselves at the mercy of a high powered rifle; seemingly random murders have being sprinkled from town to town with no recognizable connection, even under the intense investigative scrutiny of the F. B. I. Special Agent, Kit McGovern has a vested interested in solving this string of shootings, for she was standing beside the first victim when a sniper's bullet callously stole the life of her friend Gail Massey, an assistant U. S. attorney, merely standing on the steps of a courthouse.
Former homicide detective David O'Connor is training young recruits in the Norfolk Police Academy when his superiors ask him to join Kit's team. His personal relationship with Kit has been steady enough to warrant plans for the future, but the stress of this case has triggered a breach that David fervently prays they can heal. However, neither of them could have predicted the awful events that would unfold when a violent offender begins to unravel.
Follow this swift moving thriller as a cold, blooded killer seems to remain just one shot ahead of the authorities. The author has written a satisfying sequel to a previous novel, "Seeds of Evidence".
My attention was captured from the first page when the sniper killed his first victim. It was fascinating reading how Kit McGovern and her team pulled together a profile of the killer and then went after him. And David O'Connor was a perfect hero, always concerned about Kit. And the romance was sweet, although a time or two I wanted to shake Kit and say, what are you doing? This man is perfect for you!
SNIPER is a page-turner. Linda was a new-to-me author, but not any longer. I have her other books on my TBR short list! And if you like fast-paced action and suspense, you will enjoy SNIPER.
Sniper is an awesome suspense/romance. Ms. White's books always pull me right into the plot immediately and Sniper was no exception. I was on the edge of my seat and glued to this book right up to the last page. I highly recommend this book.
I finished this book this morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Linda J. White is a new author to me (even though she's multi published) and this is definitely not my last book by her. There is plenty of action, drama, suspense and a touch of romance. Throw in FBI, US Marshals, PD, Homeland and a few others and make a team to work together to catch a sniper intent on a killing spree. The action starts almost at the beginning and will keep your interest down to the last page. Linda J. White's research is evident and her husband worked for the FBI for years. Its obvious in her heroine who is a special agent. The characters are interesting to say the least and you will get into the head of the killer.
I received this book from the author due to a multi-author contest. I'm so glad I won one of her books. I definitely will be buying more by this incredible author. No one asked me to do this review and all opinions are my own. If you love romantic suspense then this book is for you.
A very unique story that kept this reader very involved. As the tale unfolds, FBI Agent Kit McGovern continues to navigate her personal relationship with her boyfriend David O’Connor, a former Police Detective currently working at the Norfolk Police Academy.
As the plot develops, Kit is standing with the Assistant U.S. Attorney Gail Massey on the front steps of the courthouse when the lawyer is killed with one bullet. It isn’t until several other shootings occur, that the detectives realize there is only one unifying factor.
I felt that Linda J. White gives the reader a lifelike example of how multiple agencies operate together to solve a challenging multi-jurisdiction crime. While I thought the development of the narrative became sluggish in a few places the author continued to keep me engaged!
The references to biblical verses are subtle while the two main characters gave examples of why living with faith in God’s words are important.
Sniper! had me glued from beginning to end! It started out with a shocking death by a sniper and from then on it got more and more intriguing with trying to stop the terrorizing by the sniper. As well as a mystery, there is clean romance here and there. I enjoyed the conversations between the FBI agents, sometimes even funny! I felt that I got to know the main characters pretty well and I actually missed them the day after I finished the book! I highly recommend this fast-paced book. It is written as well as some very popular authors I have read.
SNIPER by Linda J White. A high powered rifle takes the life of a friend, shocked, it could have been her. They had just finished a case, now it would probably be dismissed is that why she was killed. Then another and another killing. David the love interest, loves teaching the new rookies coming in. Has been asked to join this case. This causes a tension between them can it be healed. Linda was a new author for me, and I am looking forward to reading more by her. This was a good flowing plot from the beginning. With us as readers wanting the answers also.
If you love Suspense, you will love this book. Inspirational Suspense that will grab your attention. It is hard to put down. Special Agent Kit McGovern standing next to a coworker when the coworker is shot. So many murders and FBI has a hard time piecing together a pattern for the killings. Kit is run off road at one point. David has a hard time getting to spend time with Kit. He joins the task force. He also has the killer when he falls through boards that give way. Healing, murder, love, suspense, danger and more.
Pretty good book. First time reading this author. The main characters were well developed. Despite having a lot of secondary characters, I only got mildly lost a few times. As a reader I prefer to keep reading until I can place a character instead of going back to front of book for character list. Overall I would recommend this book & read another book by this author.
I can't wait to read another book by this author! Everything is so real, so intense....you feel like you are right in the midst of the story. The story is of a shooter randomly killing people, men, women, and children.
This was a very good and exciting book from the beginning to the end. It definitely held my interest. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, I definitely intend to read more. If you like a good suspense novel with a Christian message, this would be it. Enjoy!
This book has wonderful characters and a lovely romance between Kit and David. The mystery is well told and the exciting scenes are great. The story is fully engaging and enjoyable!
This book is a stand alone book. It takes place after the events in "Seeds of Evidence" and stars FBI agent Kit McGovern with help from her romantic partner D C Cop David O'Connor. A great read.
This story held my interest and I liked it well enough but it had a few elements that I don't like.
First, and foremost, I dislike hearing anything from the "bad guy's" point of view. I like the mystery of the bad guy's identity to unfold for me like it does for the book's characters. I also rarely like being in the bad guy's head. However, in this story, I actually began to feel very sorry for the bad guy--a first for me. He was clearly troubled and needed so much help.
My second "dislike" is having a main guy, in this instance David, be so doggone perfect (long suffering, need-anticipating, non-complaining, extra-brave, etc.) that it makes the main gal, in this instance Kit, seem like a bit of a shrew and the main guy seem like a doormat.
Third, it was gory reading with so many senseless deaths.
