An exciting and exceptional finale to a great series!
After receiving an advanced copy in exchange for only an honest review, I was thrilled to follow the desperate race for survival of the Ryman family and their friends at Shiloh Ranch.
After a tumultuous battle for freedom from tyranny in Savannah ('Hornet's Nest'), life seems to be safe once again. When the misguided direction and attention of FEMA begins to threaten the safety of all civilians, another battle may be needed. Can they stand together, united against the dangers that are coming? Will all of the loved characters in the series survive? Or will the depravity of mankind be victorious?
A great read, once again in a single evening, with a wonderful story of the drive and sacrifice needed to ensure the beautiful gift of freedom. I fully enjoyed reading a series that can be shared with my children. Without explicit language or graphic situations, it's a no-brainer to share this series with my boys. Very well done!
When you put hours and hours into a series of books you really want it to have a great ending. Devil's Homecoming had a really enjoyable one. It was one that you were hoping for 4 books ago but things kept happening to the remaining survivors. Akart was able to take 5.5 books of information, history, and feelings and pull together a believable and enjoyable finale.
Devil's Homecoming picks up right where Hornet's Nest left off -- on Main Street where FEMA officials are trying to round up the people during their Thanksgiving celebration. The main characters of all 5 books up until now are all in play to try and end this nightmare once and for all.
The Tiger Tails really took my heart this series - I love their tenacity and ability to save the day throughout. Akart wrote them in such a way that they were believably young but also able to do a lot since they had to grow up quickly throughout. The same can be said about the Ryman daughter. She was into normal girl things and golf before the CME hit the Earth and since then she's grown up quickly from book to book.
This book was well worth the wait and thankfully Akart didn't make us wait years to get through the entire series. I loved the story arc's within each book and the overall arc throughout the series. I felt like he put a ton of thought into what and why things were going to happen.
Overall, I'm happy to be done with the Blackout Series but I'll be sad to see all of these characters go. I am excited to move onto Akart's newest series: Pandemic.
This picks up exactly where the last one ends, with a squadron of FEMA soldiers descending on place. They are being heavy handed with the people because of who is in charge! It's up to the Ryman family and their friends to try to put a stop to the tyrants and finish this once and for all.
That's all I'll say about the story because I could easily spoil something!! I have to say, I'm sad to see the series end, but it was a fitting end for them!! This ties the Ryman family story up nicely and I liked the way it ended. The plot was fast paced and intense because it's them against us basically, and I was hooked the whole way through.
These may be quick reads but every story is well written and developed and the author creates characters that are easy to like and easy to relate to. The Ryman family have come far from the normal family they once were. They are hardened and will do whats needed to survive.
In all, this is a great series and on that anyone can read. I thoroughly enjoyed every book and this author has become one of my favourites. It's a must read.
Again, John David Farrell captured the essence of this book perfectly. He has the right inflection at the right time and told this really well. I will have to check out more by him!!
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
Was quite ready to read this one. Lots of action, weather related nightmares, and sheer determination of the families we have come to love, made for fascinating reading. However, I felt a little cheated as the ending seemed to be abruptly stopped and five years into the future, I still don't understand exactly what went down on the farm between the main characters and the soldiers. What happened when the tornado hit? Why end this series so abruptly?
I discovered the Blackout series when the third book, Turning Point was released. I had read the blurb and thought it sounded interesting so I immediately bought the first book, 36 Hours. I devoured that one and bought the second right away! I was very impressed how Mr. Akart took a possible catastrophe and turned into a story about the survival of a family of three and their journey through a world that had gone to hell in a hand basket. The Ryman family consists of Colton, his wife Maddie and their daughter Alex. They are everyday people that had no idea what prepping for an emergency even meant but soon learned. When the EMP hit and the grids went down their journey of survival began and what a journey it was. With their neighborhood being threatened by gangs taking over, they decide to hit the road and head for what they hoped to be the safety of a friends place many miles away. What they encounter along the way has them making decisions they never dreamed of having to make but in this kill or be killed world that now exists, they do what they have to in order to keep each other safe. They learn quickly and the hard way that you can trust no one out on the open road and with that mind set, they continue on. Once the family had reached its final destination after many close calls, all seemed idealistic until a force that they had run into on the way comes around, ruining what had been the perfect utopia. Once again the Rymans must face a foe but this time they have friends to back them and the fight for their lives is on! In this, the final book of the story, blood is shed and lives are lost and I cried many tears. This emotional rollercoaster of a ride with this series was coming to an end and I had no idea which way it would play out. Would the many characters that I had come to love lose the battle or would they reign over the evil that was trying to end what they had been fighting for? I found this to be a fitting end to the series when I read that last page. Bobby Akart ended his magnificent series with just the right touches and Oh yeah moments. As I leave this series with many emotions playing with my psyche, I look forward to many more stories that this author has to offer. His knowledge of survival tactics has taught me a lot and I hope to learn much more from him in the future. Thank you Bobby Akart, for many hours of entertainment and your dedication to help those of us who are just learning how to be a prepper, be more prepared for, if and when we need to bug out!
Hey , I like this author, this particular book and the series it ends. Solid story with good.moral lessons, plus some prepping and self-reliance tips sprinkled throughout. Great stuff.
I do have a beef, though. Way too much space in each book is given to summarizing all of the previous books, characters, etc. Then of course, at the end they have to advertise not only the next book in the series, but every other series.the author has ever written.
Altogether, that adds up to about 25 to 35% of each book being, essentially, advertising for other works by the authors. That leaves precious little room to actually deliver the current plot and character development. This last book in the series, especially, suffers from this problem.
Rollie Durham, son of Ma is now commanding officer of FEMA in Jackson, he releases Ma and Junior and with his Marines return to Savannah, takes over control and arrests any of the town's people who haven't scattered. Our group escapes and heads to the Wolven's place on Childer's Hill and make plans to strike back first and end this after they learn the Marines new role of engagement is "let it rip, don't waste time asking questions. The battle begins plus they have the threat of massive flooding from the Pickwick Landing Dam and to add insult to injury a tornado hits during the battle. I won't tell you the result but I highly recommend The Blackout series for any fan of the post-apocalyptic genre.
Outstanding series with characters that truly walked and talked!
Well, maybe now I will be able to get some sleep as every night would find me at the end of Another Book in the series AND another cliffhanger! This was a wonderful series with great characters against incredible odds... They persevered and came out on top and the rebuilding of America moved forward... Thank you for yet another th hill I I
Thank you for another truly outstanding series, Mr. Akart!!!. This series has something for everyone!
Of all the Bobby Akart series books I’ve read, the Blackout Series is the best and my favourite. The Ryman family has become my personal favourite. The family was amazing in the way they stuck together and faced the daunting situations they faced from the collapse of society caused by the destruction of the power grid across the country. Their friends they lived with near Savannah were also outstanding. Thanks Bobby for writing this awesome series.
Overall, this series as a whole is a FIVE. It has been a great series and is very well written. I would definitely re-read this set as it was so much fun. I was a little disappointed actually in this final book as I felt like it was really a repeat of Book 5, just with the addition of the new character, Roland. FEMA/the government also didn't seem to be too miffed about the loss of a lot of their troops either.
I’ve more than enjoyed this series! Just like with his Yellowstone series I want to know more about what happened to all the characters after I read the final book. As sad as some of the storyline made me the endings gave me hope for the survival of the human race. I can only hope in a real life situation I would find some of these people to ride out the storm with.
There’s a lot of Post Apocalypse fiction, but few authors have the skill and talent to suck you deep into the fury and passion of a world gone bad...but Bobby seems to do it with ease. The characters are vital, vibrant and fallible, like we all hope to be if faced with enormous obstacles, meager resources and long odds. You’ll want to cheer for Alex and her family and secretly hope your son finds someone like her.
I am a huge fan of the author. I love the world he creates. A mix of real and fiction. He creates amazing characters, some you can't help but fall in love with others, other you are rooting for their demise. I always walk away from his books wondering what life would be like if his stories did come go fruition. I leave entertained as well as with knowledge gained. You really can't ask for more from a book. The only sad part is when the series ends.
Wow, unbelievable ending to a terrific series! Excellent! Book six and last of the series telling it like it could someday be. It is pretty important that you read the 1st 5 books in the series to see the continuity. It could have ended with Hornet’s Nest. The Ryman’s thought it had. The residents of Savannah thought it had. Jr. and Ma Durham had been toted off to prison and there was partying in the streets on Thanksgiving Day. Somebody poked the hornet’s nest and Rollie Durham, the oldest son, shows up with the full authority of the government behind him. On his way, he freed Ma and Jr. from jail and proceeds to go after the Rymans and the rest of their community. As with the rest of the series, these pages just explode with action! Also, as with the other books in the series, there is no strong language.
I loved this series, so well written and characters that drew you in and wouldn't let you go. My only disappointment is that the series ended. I enjoyed following the Rymans on the journey after the solar eruption. The depravity of man is real in this series and in real life. Do yourself a favor start reading this series, you'll be glad you did.
A BA. SYFY. Novel About EM P Survival/Blackout Series (6)
BA. has. penned the 6th novel in the Blackout Series. The son of Ma Pusser was appointed FEMA Commander of the Savannah Area. When the group took Me Pusser. and Jumbo to FEMA he immediately released them. The fight that had been won was going to be fought again. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I can't say enough about Bobby Akart's books. I found myself inside Savanah, Tennessee with Alex and Beau. As usual at the end of each series I feel like should always be more and are left looking for another Akart series. Alas, I believe I have completed all of them. I'm looking forward to his next book. Keep up the great work Bobby.
Here's another thrilling apocalyptic story to enthrall you. Bobby Akart's stories are always well written with great characters. He's known for also being knowledgeable of true events which inspired him in writing many novels. I love all his books, they totally engulf me.
The series comes to a satisfactory conclusion. But nothing about building the new life. Enjoyed it, well written with good characterisation, both good and bad. But too short. Why do we have to pay for summaries of the previous books in the series then 6/7 chapters of the new series. A bit much.
This is another great series by Bobby Akart. I enjoyed the story from the first book to the sixth book. Mr.Akart has a way of making you want to read from start to finish. All of his story's grab you and keep you wanting to read the. Each story gives a glimpse into what could happen with different scenarios. All very enjoyable reads.
Excellent writing as usual for any Bobby Akart series. There were times when some of the books had a slow pace but always raced to an exciting and dramatic finish. This last book in the series was somewhat implausible until you think of Murphy’s law: If something can go wrong it will! It did but the characters won in the end!
Wow, I read all 6 of the Blackout Series and they were terrific. This series was so realistic. I loved the characters and the action. I am an action reader. It was really cool the way Mr. Smart brought some American Civil War History into the series. I could hardly put the books down to go to bed!
What a thrill this series has embedded to this reader! Family loyalty, justice, integrity and honesty are threaded throughout the whole series. BOBBY AKART poses the distinctive outcome in realistic situations that fact and fiction marry perfectly. A must read for fans of post apocalyptic stories! Tiger, out!
Loved the book and for that fact the entire Blackout series! This booked wrapped up the series very well and kept you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Once you start reading it you won’t be able to put it down until you have finished. As with all of Bobby Akart's books you still want more but a series can’t go on forever. Really well done writing and the cast of characters is great.
I have read many books of this nature, but this series is one of the best. I highly recommend to anyone that enjoys this genre or anyone that loves a good story with characters you will grow to love and some you will hate.
Enjoyed the series very much. Plausible scenario with believable characters and realistic action. The author's emphasis on the mental aspects of prepping and resilience is right on target.
I can't really describe how great this series was. The characters reeled you in. The effort in which it was written was incredible. I have read multiple books of Bobby akhart, but this series was hands down the best. Well done sir!
