Every Emily Stone Thriller is a stand-alone novel.
From the multi-award winning thriller series:
What happens when one California community has a disturbing spike in homicides? It catapults cops into a deadly game of murder. Frozen human body parts hideously displayed at the crime scenes offers a horrifying interpretation that only a sadistic serial killer could design—and execute. On the hunt for a complex serial killer, vigilante detective Emily Stone must face her most daring case yet. Stone’s proven top-notch profiling skills and forensic expertise may not be enough this time.
Young and ambitious, Detective Danny Starr, catches the homicide cases and discovers that it will test everything he knows about police work and the criminal mind. Can he handle these escalating cases or will the police department have to call in reinforcements—the FBI.
Emily Stone’s covert team pushes with extreme urgency to unravel the grisly clues, while keeping their identities hidden from the police. With one last-ditch effort, Stone dangles someone she loves as bait to draw out the killer. She then forces the killer out of their comfort zone with her partner Rick Lopez, and with help from a longtime friend Jordan Smith. A revelation of the serial killer’s identity leaves the team with volatile emotions that could destroy them.
The killer continues to taunt and expertly manipulate the police, as well as Stone’s team, and as they run out of time—they leave behind everyone and everything—in Dead Cold.

This is my first introduction to Emily Stone and this series. My first impression was a great experience. I will be checking out the prior novels in this series. What I liked a lot about this book is that I felt like I got the best parts as I missed all of the logistics of getting to know Emily and the rest of the team. It felt natural and I was able to ease into the dynamics of everyone and their working relationship. For example, I felt the chemistry between Emily and Rick. I did not question them as a couple. Because they were a couple, it was to their advantage as they could anticipate each other's moves. I liked that for the longest time that they were a secret operation that Detective Starr was not aware of. Not that I did not have faith that he would solve the case on his own. He is strong and smart.
When it came to the killer; the killer was cold and calculated. A good challenge for Emily, Rick, and Starr. Besides all of the characters, I thought the storyline was good as well. It moved at a good, quick pace with plenty of action. Although, it did pick up more in the last third of the story. Emily can kick some butt.
WHOA. Why haven’t I read any Jennifer Chase and Emily Stone? I cannot say how excited I am now remedying that! Intense from the very beginning. The writing went where I wasn’t expecting and I love it. I can hardly wait to see what other surprises await me.
I took a break from murderous mayhem and serial killers, for a short while. All the books started to run together, but I felt right at home when I began reading Dead Cold by Jennifer Chase. Made me wonder why I ever took a break.
Emily and her partner, Rick Lopez, work outside the law, but they use all the skills they had learned in their time with the federal government to pursue criminals. Rick loved Emily and hunting the bad guys with her. They are so much more than partners. They are friends and lovers too.
Emily is like a female Sherlock Holmes. She is patient, meticulous, methodical, a natural when it comes to profiling. But she does have a bit of a problem with surveillance. She wants to go right for the take down. There is absolutely nothing Emily wouldn’t do to accomplish her goal, to save a life, to rescue a friend. Instincts, intuition, deductive reasoning, step by step, piece by piece, she weaves together the facts and data. Each piece of evidence is a part of the puzzle. Then…
She looks death in the eye and spits at it.
They are covert, letting the cops take the credit while vanishing into thin air when they arrive.
Now her sights are set on a serial killer she dubbed the Ice Puzzler.
Jordan is her go to guy for information they can’t get on the own. He’s smart, playful, fun and annoying. I smiled at his antics. When he meets Gunner, he insists he is not a dog guy, but Gunner adopts him. Rick is antagonistic to Jordan. Do they need to put ‘it’ on the table and measure? Is he jealous, threatened? Does Rick have a reason to be concerned about Jordan’s feeling for Emily?
Oh man. A shift of perspective. Right at a crucial moment. One minute I was with Emily and Rick, and Emily is in deep danger, then I was pulled away to be with Detective Daniel Starr. Now I have to wait…to see what comes next. A great way to build suspense and anticipation and I love it.
Uh oh. Kayla cannot let sleeping dogs lie and is persistent in her pursuit of Emily. I can understand it, but I think nothing good can come of it. You’ll need to read the book to find out who Kayla is and what becomes of her.
Enter HER. Who is SHE? What does SHE have to do with anything? Other than being a sad and damaged woman with some very serious issues?
I feel empathy for the villain. I sometimes find myself rooting as much for the villain as the hero. I just can’t seem to help myself. It takes some fantastic writing to make that happen.
Told from multiple perspectives, there’s an underlying mystery running. I’m deciphering the implications and coming up with my own conclusion. Let’s see if I’m right.
As the pieces come together Jennifer Chase delivers a surprise or two or three. She created a wonderful feeling of suspense, and anticipation. My eagerness to find out kept me reading at a rapid pace, but I told myself to slow down…I wanted to savor each delicious morsel of Dead Cold. Danger oozes off the pages. Action and intrigue overwhelm me. Love everything about it. Can’t get enough of it. I need more!

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Dead Cold by Jennifer Chase.
My heart was in my throat at the end of this book. It was fast paced, thrilling, action packed, dangerous and we see a new take on the case that Emily and Rick take on. Emily, Rick and Jordan once again capture you in this fast paced thriller and Detective Starr with his friend Eddie really have you warm up to them to in this riveting thriller.
Here Emily and Rick start with a case in the past that has the girl’s life change. She now is in criminal justice for a degree and determined to thank them. Meantime they are helping find a little girl and things don’t go right... they meet their mission but everything goes sideways.
Now a new crime has Emily intrigued and it has her lost as well. Rick and Emily call on Jordan to help. And this gets the case more interesting. Jordan is smart, funny and sweet. He tries to lighten the situation but you can see something is on his mind. As he does the tech and some profile, emily is trying to figure out the killer and feeling stressed out but also lost and Rick is looking at the detective aspect. He is also dealing with the fallout from the last case..
the murderer is not your typical one and is cunning. Also unraveling as each murder is done and each one becomes more demonstrative in her message. When we get the thoughts of the killer it is creepy and adds to the creep factor tenfold.
Jennifer Chase does a great job of keeping the killer on the loose and adding enough tension in our trio to have them just on the periphery of figuring it all out. We meet a new detective that is smart and dogged in his pursuit of finding out who the killer is but also who Emily and Rick are as well. Our story is fast paced, dangerous, intriguing and enticing. The end with jordan and all the danger kept me entranced and the whole story where Emily was racing to figure out who was dismembering men and displaying them as the killer did riveting. .
Well look what I found when updating my other book data base about the author's Dead Game book - here's a review I wrote back in 2017 that somehow didn't make it onto Goodreads. Its apparently the sixth Emily Stone 'thriller' and this is what I wrote - verbatim with editorial comments in brackets.
2.5 stars. That's probably bit unfair (it wasn't). I understand there are earlier books and if I'd read them I MAY have been able to rate this higher (no). But just judging the book I read it was quite weak. The characters seemed cardboard (is there an echo here?). There was no background as to who they were or why they did what they did which was pretty much vigilante crime fighting although they tried not to kill people (not always successfully). As I said the background may have been in earlier books (thinly) but it was lacking in this story.
Emily and Rick are on the trail of a killer who dismembers and freezes his/her victims to later display them in a dramatic fashion (don't they all). There was also little exploration of the killer's motives although you could guess. The police characters were also very thinly drawn (still). I couldn't get invested in any of the people as I didn't know enough about what drove them. The story therefore had little drama or suspense for me.
I understand that an author may not want to give elaborate background in every instalment but I've picked other series up partway through and gotten a much better sense of who's who and why they are the way they are. Another thing that annoyed me was the too frequent hand-wringing and guilt tripping on Emily's part. She wasn't getting a handle on this killer fast enough. We get it already but you can only do what you can do. Its not as if she was killing them.
A well written plot. This was my first in the Emily stone series and I definitely adored it. The main two characters Emily the protagonist and Jess the serial killer are potrayed very well. Emily the undercover crime investigator who gives her full to any case she takes up, having only one aim - to reduce crime in the city. Jess the victim of physical and mental torture. The plot starts with four different lives, one Emily and her friends, one the investigating police officers, third the serial killer and fourth the girl Kayla and friends who wants to thank Emily for saving her life. The four different lives are described well through out and finally they are bought together to a brilliant finale.
Jennifer Chase’s "Dead Cold" is the sixth of her Emily Stone thrillers, with a seventh in the pipeline. Emily and her partner Rick Lopez are ex law enforcement officers who’ve decided that rather than deal with the humdrum of everyday law enforcement, with its highs and lows — thrills and spills one minute, acute boredom the next — they’d ditch the routine and become 24/7 thrill-a-minute good guys, superheroes almost, tracking down villains, solving crimes, leaving the local cops to claim the glory of yet another mysteriously solved felony. In this episode, a Californian community is beset by a disturbing spike in gruesome homicides. There’s a serial killer out there who not only snares and tortures victims but cuts them into neat sections and displays them in a macabre formation for all to see. The local police are flummoxed, Detective Danny Starr doing his best but being thwarted at every turn by one of the cleverest killers he has ever come across. Enter Emily Stone and her partner Rick, and this time they enlist the assistance of a friend, Jordan. Together the intrepid trio sets out to track the killer. And this time it’s easier said than done.
"Dead Cold" is not for those of weak heart or nervous disposition. Every page will have your heart pumping so much you’ll feel like you’re running a marathon. The story gets off to a cracking start in the prologue with high speed action from the first line. Jennifer Chase introduces us to real, three-dimensional characters, those with whom you can empathise, those you can love, hate, root for. Chapters aren’t numbered but rather they are headed with a date and time, a device which helps to keep up the frenetic pace throughout the story. The writing is visual so as you flip through the pages, it will feel like you’re watching a movie and as the story is multi-layered you won’t lose interest. The concept itself is unique. Most American thrillers involve police officers, FBI agents, spies, or private detectives, not people working clandestinely and happy to allow regular law enforcers to take all the credit. So, if you’re an adrenaline junkie, buckle up your seat belt and start reading. When you get to the end, if you’re not already familiar with this author’s work, you’ll be taking note of her name and reaching for another Emily Stone adventure.

You will fall in love with Emily Stone and return to read more of her thrilling stories. Each Emily Stone Thriller is a stand alone novel.
My rating of "Dead Cold - Emily Stone Thriller" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.
Dead Cold By author Jennifer Chase brings the reader another Emily Stone murder. Emily and Rick find themselves on more rescue missions and then a puzzling case of piecing together the mystery of frozen body parts being left in park areas. In the opening of this book there is a flashback to when Emily made a watery rescue of 13 year old Kayla Swanson from being held on a boat by a kidnaper and abuser. Next Emily and Rick are on another covert mission to rescue little Ana from horrible kidnappers where she is found in a dog crate in deplorable conditions. There is a bit of a problem with this mission…Emily is caught on a surveillance feed which could blow her cover and her covert operations in the future.
Emily and Rick always anonymously alert the local police or detectives after they have secured an offender with zip ties and removed the victim from harm. They have a new detective they are feeding information to now, Detective Danny Starr. On this puzzling case Emily and Rick decide to add Jordan Smith to help them find this serial killer who is leaving body parts as clues. Jordan is a former FBI operative and has a special bond with Emily, although Rick just tolerates Jordan in order to get the job done. As the story progresses the reader will go along for the hunt of this cold bloodied killer and all of this team will pay a physical price in injuries, shootings, and near death. And Emily meets up with a flash from the past... Kayla !
If you love a good, bone-chilling tale than this is the book for you! I give Dead Cold by Jennifer Chase a Huge 5 Teacups, this one will keep you up all night and you're gonna need lots of caffeine! In a quiet, California community where life revolves around work, school activities and shopping, a series of murders begins. Body parts are found frozen and displayed in a way more chilling than anything detective Emily Stone has ever seen. She soon gathers her team, including Detective Danny Star who has yet to face such a case as this. He's new to the force and can he manage the gruesome task ahead? As the body counts rise, Stone and her team work tirelessly to find the killer before more young girls disappear.
Chase's writing is impeccable, right up there with the Tess Gerritsen and Lisa Jackson! Truly an amazing writer with such detail and twists and turns in her tale that the reader is instantly on the edge of their seat and not knowing which direction they are going. Absolutely loved this book and I intend to read much more by Jennifer Chase. Definitely, an author to watch out for!
I like to go into a book cold, not knowing a whole lot about the plot. It wasn’t long before I figured out this isn’t the first book in the series. No worries though. I got an idea of who was who and how they connected as I continued reading.
Told from four different points of view, this kept things interesting and the story fast paced. The character’s have strong voices, making them easy to identify.
The only thing I was left wondering about was how Emily and her partner, Rick, were able to survive. I mean, they were both in law enforcement but left it behind to pursue behind the scenes justice. They’d solve a crime and call in a tip, leaving the credit to the police. I couldn’t figure out how they lived without money as they didn’t get paid by anybody. It wasn’t a big deal. Just means I should go back to the beginning of the series and find out. And I’ll definitely be checking out the other books.
I mentioned four different points of view. Lets talk about that. You get the view of Emily and Rick as they research each crime, often putting themselves in grave danger to rescue someone in a bad way. I like them as a couple. They’re in love and have to allow each other freedom to take risks. That could break up most couples, but they’ve found a way to make it work.
Then there’s Detective Danny Starr. He’s catching on that someone is helping the force in fighting crime and he’s just landed a huge new case. Someone is killing people, freezing their bodies, then later spreading the body parts around to be discovered.
And Kayla, rescued by Emily and Rick several years ago, is now shadowing the case, trying to reconnect with Emily and thank her for saving her life. She’s putting herself smack dab into danger again. Being a teen, I cut her some slack for what she was doing. Young people seem to think they’ll live forever and she clearly believes lightning won’t strike twice.
Last but certainly not least is the serial killer. Suffering from a violent past, the killer is used to violence and revels in taunting the police, leaving body parts for them to discover and a puzzling motive to figure out. Going through trauma isn’t an excuse to dish out crap on others, and I couldn’t find much symphony for the serial killer. Just too much evil there.
I know. There’s a lot happening. I got caught up in the suspense. I could see the character’s heading on a collision course. And when they all converged, the suspense darn near killed me. I really had no idea how it would end, who would come out of it alive.
Dead Cold is a puzzling thriller with a ton of suspense and very real characters. If you’re a fan of the genre, this would be a good one to pick up.
I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.
WHAT I THINK: BEWARE: Frozen body parts. That made you perk up, didn't it? Well this is a stand alone book, book six, but you will find yourself wanting to read more of the Emily Stone thrillers. We have a serial killer that will put you on the edge of your chair. Not only that but the hairs on your arms may stand up a bit. If you are a little squeamish, you might want to re-think reading this one. Your heart will start to beat faster, you may get a little paranoid that this could really happen. It could happen and it does happen. That is what is so exciting about reading this and the other books from Jennifer Chase. It's reality, fiction of course, but you begin to feel the reality of it as you turn the pages. You may even get a little hesitant about turning the next page. What will happen next? The setting is a Californian community. The serial killer is leaving body parts at the scenes of the crimes, frozen body parts, after he lures them, tortures and neatly cuts them up. Now are looking over your shoulder as you read this late at night? This isn't your ordinary serial killer. This one is smart and cunning. As Emily, Rick and Jordan go about hunting the killer, they find this isn't as easy as they thought it would be. The pace of the story is fast and the action is constant. Never a dull moment with Emily Stone.
I liked that the book wasn't set up as normal read. Instead of chapter numbers it has dates and times. That made it easy to keep up with what was going on. The book is unusual in the fact that Emily and her friends working and solving cases, don't take the credit. They happily let the law enforcement to take the credit.
Will Emily and her friends solve the mystery as to who the serial killer is and what is making him do the gruesome killings he's doing? But time is of the essence. Another victim may be at the killer's hands as you are turning the pages. Can Emily get to him before he gets to his next victim? So if you love out of the ordinary mysteries with lots of suspense and twists and turns, join forces with Emily and become an arm chair detective. I warn you, you open the book and you are there, frozen body parts and all!
I received a copy of this book from the author and PUMP UP YOUR BOOK and voluntarily decided to review it.
I'm just going to start off by saying, WHERE HAS THIS SERIES BEEN ALL MY LIFE!?! Wow! I'm a huge fan of serial killer stories, so I was definitely intrigued after reading the synopsis and this book completely delivered! I'm now adding all the previous books to my TBR and can't wait to get started from the beginning!
This is an exciting and intense thriller that is told from multiple perspectives, so that each adds layers to the growing suspense and builds anticipation for the final showdown. The majority of the story follows Emily as she tries to figure out who the killer is, while at the same time, you get to follow Detective Starr for the official investigation. We also get a little peak into the killer's mind, which was quite unnerving. And finally, there's Kayla's, a former victim who was rescued by Emily years earlier and now Kayla is trying to find this elusive woman and thank Emily for saving her. I was not the biggest fan of Kayla's point of view and when she finally found Emily, it was so cringe-inducing and off-putting to be unnecessary. Personal preference aside, some people may like Kayla's contribution to the story, but in the end, I didn't see how she brought any meaningful value. I ultimately felt that the pacing slowed way down when Kayla entered the story, but as you can tell from my rating, it wasn't such a distraction to cause a problem with the overall storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed that through these multiple points of view, the author created a perfect balance between the good and bad forces at play where crime is involved. I'm a big fan of reading about the shades of gray that dwell in between those two power dynamics and Emily and her team were a highly believable cast of characters to read about as they took us through the underbelly of vigilante justice.
This well written plot was fascinating to read and really set some high expectations for the rest of the series which I'm looking forward to getting started on! So if you're in the mood for the dark, gritty, and dangerous, definitely give this book a read!
This the first I have read by Jennifer Chase and while I was told it is a stand alone I felt lost when certian characters are introduced but not enough information given causing this reader to get lost.
Dead Cold is a non stop action thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seat that doesn't take prisoners. The story starts off with a kidnapper rescues that readers can only question how the heck did they make it out alive. From there the story only keeps on going with the same speed while Emily and the Detective Danny Star hunt for a serial killer that gets into the minds of everyone twisting their ability to think clearly. The author is able to create a timeline for readers by using date and time headings instead of chapters. Which readers will need as they dive into Emily's life and work. The characters have dept that will be able to connect with them right away. Everyone is beautiful and handsome but I have found that seems to be the norm in books today.
Than you to Netgalley and the publisher JEC Press for the review copy and I can't wait to read more by this author.
I’ve really enjoyed the book, although this was my first one in the series. What I missed was a bit more backgroudn information. Who is Jordan? He is ex-FBI, but apparently he’s known Emily for a long time and Rick it not too happy about that. It is a good book with a nice plot, lots of action and suprises, but the writing lacks a bit of finesse for me. It is often not very smooth, in describing people and action. I would have liked to see somewhat more difference from other characters in books. Now we have a beautiful strong woman, her companion who is a handsome strong man, a third handsome strong man, a young determined girl, a cop who is also very handsome and skilled, and a very disturbed serial killer- also very handsome. Not to forget two dogs… The book could have done with more diversity and I am missing deeper insights in the motives of the killer– more than we get now. But despite the things I missed, I enjoyed the book, just not enough to give it 4 stars.
I really liked this one. This is my first Emily Stone book, but it won't be the last. The fact that it is already in a series didn't affect the reading experience at all. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything (I am going to go back and read previous books!). The author's imagery in the prologue was great and hooked you from the start. There is action and it is a book you just won't want to put down.
I loved that Emily was a kick butt chick with smarts. Her team just meshes. The covert part to me was pretty awesome. They do all the work and solve crimes, save lives but stay in the background and that is what they want. The detective, Starr was a smart cookie as well. I think he was a great add to this book. I really loved the author's writing style and the different perspectives we get. That just made the book for me.
It was a 4/5. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book (via PUYB). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
FTC: I received a free copy of this book from Pump Up Your Book in exchange for my honest review. I received no other compensation and the opinions expressed in this review are one hundred percent true and my own.
Dead Cold by Jennifer Chase was a good book. It actually reminded of the “King and Maxwell” books that David Baldacci wrote. I loved those books so when this book reminded me of that series this book had a lot to live up too. I am happy to say that it did live up to what I hoped it would. I really enjoyed watching Emily and Rick because they reminded me characters that I loved from another series of books. I am happy that I found this book because I can’t wait to read more books in this series. This book didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat, but it did keep me interested. I was able to read this book enough fast which I always enjoy. If you love thriller type books than I am sure you will enjoy this book and series as much as I did.
Jennifer Chase has done it again, this Emily Stone thriller is just the next thrilling installment; even better than the others in this series. The story is full of suspense, thrills, and shocking twists. Emily along with her boyfriend and coworker Rick are two people that believe wrongs need to be righted no matter if they risk themselves in the process. Their relationship is amazing and strong through all that they have been through. Their story is intense and hair raising; using their own skills and resources to investigate, hunt, and hopefully capture the evil in this world. The police are getting help and they don't know who or how these mystery people keep disappearing; or if they are the good guys. The twists to come to a stop until the very last page. Thank you NetGalley and Jennifer Chase for allowing me to read and review this book.
The previous Emily Stone thriller I really loved. It was certainly entertaining. But this one, just could not grab me. Emily seems a little extreme in her quest for hunting criminals. In this story the sadistic villain kills his victims and then cuts them into body parts. I was disappointed in the numerous repeating statements throughout the novel and extensive descriptions during action scenes. It sent me a message that the author was just wanting to fill more pages with words. Sorry, maybe I'll like the next story.
First of all, I love this books cover! It caught my attention right away! But it is more important what is behind the cover and this book was great! A sadistic serial killer, frozen body parts, detective Emily Stone is on the case. What a tough case it is but does detective Emily Stone have enough profiling skills and forensic expertise to catch this killer. What an exciting book! I was on the edge of my seat my whole book! * I received this book free from Netgalley and this is my honest review*
First of all, that blurb completely drew me in. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Jennifer Chase was able to keep me on my toes.
I loved the fact that this was a Thriller, but the author was able to create real emotion and have the reader tap into that. The main characters is very strong and easy to love.
I love reading thrillers and trying to figure out what could possibly come next. Jennifer Chase has really created an imaginative thriller that has plenty of twists and surprises.
Not much different than most books of this ilk. All characters were stereotypical and too perfect to be believable. The detective was really boring. I especially take issue with gun battles where the hero shoots straight only at the end. Emily could not come close in the lab but in the woods she shot between the eyes. I couldn't figure the need for the undeveloped teenage character who was saved at the beginnng of the book. I gave an average rating because I finished.
A solid Thriller Novel. The premise is unique, which made me excited to read it just from the synopsis. This is one of those stories that will start off with a bang and not let up until the very last page. It really keeps on a great pace throughout. Jennifer Chase has really created an imaginative thriller that has plenty of twists and surprises I was wondering how it would all unfold and end. Chase definitely managed to keep me on the edge and invested until the very end.
This is another great book in the Emily Stone series. Book 6 and still as riveting as book 1. There is high speed action from the first page and it never lets up. Good realistic characters, fast paced, a plot that keeps your attention to the end and a stand alone plot. I would recommend this series of books. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy.
Real and Vivid. I liked the way that Jennifer Chase wove her tale.
Characterization was huge in this novel. The characters were all very well developed and had their own motivations and faults. It made them seem more real to me as the reader.
I also really liked the flow of this novel. It felt very smooth.
Wow, this one really delivers in many areas. It is a thrilling novel with teeth. Yes, it took a bit of catching up to understand what was going on, but once in the heart of it, Jennifer Chase has the reader hooked. As far as Characters, Plot, and Flow, everything was very well developed and smooth. This novel was a great escape from reality as well as a quick and easy read
Love the Emily Stone series. Keep writing them Jennifer. She weaves a good story at the same time not making the heroine into some super woman that ignores all protocol. Her affection for her partner comes through without the normal pussyfooting around not telling each other. It is like a twist it is so refreshing.
Great read. The villain was a surprise, I won't give it away here. Jordan, Rick and Emily make a spectacular team; glad to see them back together. Although Jordan does get more than he bargained for, it did make c.f.ore drama than usual. I highly recommend this to all readers of suspense and/or crime genre books.
Starts out with usual unsolved murder. Then a strange piece of evidence causes a 180 turn. Not the expected type of victims, prepetrators, where profiling is second guessed. A blast from the past is an added distraction. Emily Stone is human after all.. Thoroughly enjoyed the kick butt action as always.
In another fantastic edition of the Emily Stone Series, the fun, danger and dogs are all here. I was especially glad to have Jordan back in the mix and playing a crucial role in solving the latest serial killer case. A sub-plot involving a benevolent stalker is brilliantly wove into the mix. A really enjoyable read.
