The Book Of David #1-5

The Book of David: A Novel of Supernatural Horror

Rate this book
The Walters family has just purchased the perfect home if only it weren't located in the small hick town of Harrington, Indiana, and if only it weren't haunted.

David Walters is an atheist now, but his minister father taught him from a young age that Satan would one day deceive all mankind by pretending his demons were extraterrestrials. The day the Walters family moves in, they spot a flying saucer outside their new home. Things only get stranger from there. David Walters is about to learn what it means to be truly haunted, forcing him to confront his past, fight for his family, his soul, and his sanity.

A new tale of terror from Robert Kent, author of ALL TOGETHER A ZOMBIE STORY and PIZZA DELIVERY.

This horror story is intended for a mature audience. It's filled with adult language, situations, and themes. It's in no way appropriate for younger readers of BANNEKER BONES AND THE GIANT ROBOT BEES or ROB WORM'S BIRD ADVENTURE.

"The Lord has appointed you to a special duty in these last days and given your life a unique purpose. Will you turn away from the myriad temptations of this wicked world and answer His righteous calling?"

I downloaded the first chapter of this book for free on Kindle based solely on the cover art. I was hooked before I even finished it and went ahead and purchased the full-length novel.

This book a perfect mixture of ufology, high strangeness, religion, and simulated universe theory and the author should be commended for marrying these ideas together in such a way while also telling a compelling story with characters and events I found myself relating to quite easily.

Not only am I giving this book a five star rating, but I'm adding it to the shelf of books that inspire me. Kudos to Mr. Kent on this amazing work.

Update for 2023: I just finished re-reading the Book of David, as part of a book club I chose it for, and not only did it hold up to my fond memories of it, but it was even more impactful and entertaining upon a second reading. Nearly the entire book club had nothing but kind things to say about it, as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed Book of David by Robert Kent. Originally issued as a five-book series, the single-volume, 630-page Kindle version is a reading marathon, but I found the long run worthwhile. I was introduced to Kent's work when I signed up for a writing workshop that he conducted, and I downloaded this book, his biggest seller. The adult horror genre is not my first choice, but I love a good story, and this is one. Kent starts with a haunted house, which is not a surprise, but then he adds aliens, UFOs, and demons--which were surprising. He pulls it off, tying those disparate elements into a compelling plot with sympathetic characters. The climax surprised me with its reach. The resolution was fulfilling, a tall order, in a 630-page book.
