Last semester, Annabelle fell in love. There are just two problems. Jason is her best friend…and he’s already taken.
Refusing to break up a relationship, Annabelle resigns to love him from afar—until a certain hot firefighter walks into her life.
Kingsley is the perfect catch. Rich, attractive, with muscles to boot, and he only has eyes for Annabelle. But things get complicated when he clashes with Jason.
With tensions running high and emotions spiraling out of control, Annabelle finds herself torn between her love for Jason, and her new desire for Kingsley.
The longer Annabelle tries to hold on to both men, the more she gets tangled up in a web of lies, secrets, and chilling revelations.
Now, things have gotten worse and Annabelle must do something—before things get ugly…
I don't want to go into too much detail in this review as there would be a serious danger of giving too much away regarding the plot.
Second Snowfall follows on directly from First Semester, but this one is written from the point of view of Annabelle. The story continues with the trouble and blackmail that Violet (Annabelle's best friend) is experiencing from Officer Finn over her relationship with her literature professor - David Bernelli.
While this is still being played out, the story also explores Annabelle's new relationship with another student - Kingsley. Her moments with him are intense, powerful and sometimes terrifying. But is Annabelle being completely honest with herself? Does she really believe Kingsley is the one for her? Or is she just hiding her feelings for Jason? - another best friend of hers and Violet's. Annabelle is scared that she would ruin their friendship if they acted on their apparent feelings and also she doesn't want to be labelled as a homewrecker as Jason is still in a relationship with Janice - his girlfriend of 3 years.
I believe that that the key message of this story is just how important your friends are to you through good times and bad and that it is ok to lean on them when things get tough as true friends will never let you down and will always have your back. Also, not only this, but that it is ok to trust your own inner voice and that the logical answer is not always best - it is ok to follow your heart.
Just like First Semester, there is plenty going on in this story to keep the reader entertained. Personally I was hooked and found myself wanting to read on just so I could find out what happened next. with all the suspense, drama, sexual scenes and totally unexpected turn of events on more than one occasion, I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is another book of Sarah Fischer's that I have no trouble in recommending and I am thrilled to give it 5 stars!
I have to admit when I saw this book, I was excited as I love college based novels, and I normally enjoy them, but with this particular book, I felt myself getting frustrated with the characters. They all made me want to shake them and go wake up and get over yourselves as they all judged one another and it's like seriously; you are the ones doing the judging - come on - take a long look at yourself. We have Violet whose ex I guess is now in jail as he stalked and assaulted her in Book #1. We have her now-boyfriend who is a Professor of English Lit. So Violet is in a teacher/student relationship. Jason who is their best guy friend who is currently dating a girl named Janice but he doesn't really love her but is too much of a wimp to break up with her and Annabel who is head over heels for Jason and soaking up the attention he gives her, but then she doesn't want to come out and ask Jason if he has feelings for her as she is worried Janice will label her as a homewrecker. Then lastly we have Kingsley, the newcomer and he captures Annabel's attention, and they start dating but seriously what a freaking ego this guy has, and if he doesn't scream shady then I'm the Queen of England, yet Annabel makes an excuse after excuse for him. Second Snowfall is a book filled with angst, drama, and secrets. If you are looking for a drama filled angst book, then Second Snowfall by Sarah Fischer is the college read for you.
The 2nd book was dramatic and again like the first lots of action I couldn't put it down! This is a stand Alone but allot of the characters come back Annabelle is in love with her best guy friend but than a new guy comes in the picture but their is some strange things about him? My goodness another amazing book by sarah and can't wait to read more from her! So which one will get our girl Kingsley the hot firefighter or Jason her bestfriend?
This romance will appeal to high school and college age females. While it may not have been my cup of tea, I believe this very "titillating" book has an important message. The story raises many relationship red flags. The main character is totally smitten by a very handsome suitor. However, she soon finds herself making excuses for his behaviors, and contemplates using her feminine wiles to persuade him to change his ways. This book would be an excellent catalyst for the discussion of healthy relationships, and dealing with the age old problem of letting one's heart cloud one's thinking.
Awkward writing and characters we can't understand
Odd sentences/conversations, unbelievable characters and their actions and just...an increasing sense of why am I still reading this kinda sums up the book for me. Maybe if the author could provide some insight on why the charactes acted the way they did and rewrite some scenes to where they weren't just off kilter and oddly phrased, it would be easier to read. That said, I didn't enjoy the book. If I didn't already have so many books I've partially read, I would have dropped this one. It didn't hit it on any level for me.
I haven't read the first book in the series but, there is enough background information to make this a standalone as far as the main characters are concerned.
Jason has a long standing girlfriend but they don't see so much of each other. He seems content to spend time with his two best friends, Annabelle and Violet. He has feelings for Annabelle and hides them well.
Annabelle has been secretly in love with Jason but pretends that he is just a friend. She is afraid that he doesn't feel the same. Besides, she is not a homewrecker.
Kingsley joins Annabelle and her friends for lunch and she is instantly drawn to his good looks and his physique. He shows an interest in her and knowing that she might not have a chance with Jason, she decides to move on. Her friends are apprehensive about how fast things are developing between them but, she is adamant that she likes him enough to take a chance. His behaviour sends warning bells from the outset. She is flattered by the way he treats her most of the time and makes excuses when he behaves badly.
There are some disruptions between her and her friends about the relationship but their friendship comes first. Kingsley starts to impose restrictions. Totally unreasonable! Annabelle doesn't see them for what they are as she is so desperate to be loved and to make the relationship work. Jason decides to come clean but her response is not what he expects. The situation becomes awkward and he gives her breathing space.
Annabelle is a nice enough girl but she can be stubborn and irritating. Jason is a perfect gentleman whereas Kingsley acts like a spoilt brat. He takes matters to the extreme before Annabelle realises that she has made a mistake. To me it looks more like desperation! Violet is very supportive even though she is having her own problem due to the trauma she herself has been through. Christie is a newcomer to the group and fits in very well.
The storyline held my interest even though I found it hard to connect to Annabelle at times. The lies, deceits, threats and misunderstandings are compelling enough to make this a page turner. Friendship and true love prevail. In some ways it's an indication of the difficulties that some adolescents go through before they find their true selves. It would appeal to fans of new adults novels.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Second Snowfall is the second book in the Elton Hall Chronicles series and can be read as a standalone. This is also the first book I have had the opportunity to read by this author. Although I did like the story I struggled with nearly the first half of the book. I was constantly picking it up and putting it down. I didn't feel connected to the characters and I almost felt like I was reading about high-schoolers.
Annabelle has been in love with her best friend for so long, but has never had the guts to tell him. It doesn't help that he has a girlfriend. When a new guy walks into her life and shows interest she can't help but feel flattered and excited at the prospect of finally having a boyfriend. For Me Annabelle comes across as somewhat immature and naive. She is always thinking ten steps ahead and not about right now. She struggles with trusting Kingsley and makes excuses for him. She wants a boyfriend so badly that she overlooks the concern of her friends.
Kingsley is an egotistical pain-in-the-ass! Talk about an over-inflated ego. He is constantly taking about how good he is at everything. He boasts about his job as a fireman and he is sneaky as hell. He is also extremely overprotective and a tad overbearing. I get that he likes Annabelle a lot, but the fact that he more or less calls her his after such a short time is crazy. I loved that he wasn't forceful and pushy with her and did have concern for her safety. He was just so full of himself that it sort of turned me off to his character.
Second Snowfall has an underlying story going on. Violet, who is from book one play a large part in this story as well and her past has come back to haunt her. Annabelle and Jason (their best friend) do everything they can to help her through this ordeal and to keep her safe. So, basically you get two stories within the pages of this book. It is a decent, quick read, that had me frustrated with how quickly Annabelle jumps from one issue to another, but all is done with an HEA.
Fischer hit the realism mark again with this second installment to the Elton Hall Chronicles. It's gripping, steamy, and relatable on so many fantastic levels. You really feel for poor, naive Annabelle who is just looking for her prince charming while trying to help her BFF through the crisis of her life. This book isn't all heaving bosoms and sex (although there's a bit of that!) it goes much deeper. It deals with some less than savory things that people deal with on a daily basis and brings them to a wider platform. I recommend this book to everyone who likes drama, passion, forbidden love, and seriously great reads.
Wow, this one had some twists I did NOT expect. Annabelle is a good girl who's never even thought about being bad. She's kind, thoughtful, and a total "Sandra D" like in Grease, if you catch my drift. But she meets this firefighter named King who makes her WANT to be bad, a little at a time. But it's not that easy. She's also into her best friend Jason, who is already taken. And that's not all! There are secrets waiting to be revealed that can cost her more than just her education. Look forward to the next in the series. I heard it's coming out soonish and I'm waiting!
There was so much angst in book 2 of this series! As with most new adult romances, there are a lot of assumptions and secret longings. Annabelle was in a tough spot, wanting Jason but knowing he wasn't hers to have, and then being flattered by the attention Kingsley lavished on her. The many twists and revelations this story had me so frustrated! And at times I just wanted to shake some sense into some of them, but in the end, I liked the way things ended. I really enjoyed this story, and the conclusion was sound and satisfying.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Umm where did honesty go exactly. We have to many people in this hiding that it is a wonder on how these relationships can withstand this roadblocks. I really felt for Annabelle but her naivety really grated on me especially because she sees what her friend is going through and does the same shut by hiding. This was full of hypocrisy and judgements. I thought everyone was supposed to be friends yet I didn't really see support of decisions or actions.
Ooh, talk about a page turner! I was waiting a long time for this book and I was NOT dissapointed. Took it down to my friend's pool and read it in one sitting. Lots of love. Lots of fun. Lots of bedroom things!! But a lot more drama. It was a good book and I didn't want to put it down. I was really rooting for poor Annabelle to get her man and get her life back on track before it was too late!!! Whens the next one??
So, I really enjoyed this book. It took on a hard topic and it didn't get all wishy washy or anything like that. I read Fischer's first book and it did the same thing. She adds a realism to the books that just takes you and makes your heart cry, soar, plummet, and cheer. It was dramatic and the end really through me for a loop. I look forward to the next one in the series.
This was a fun book and I really wasn't expecting the ending. I read book 1 and had a secret love for Annabelle. I was excited to get into her story and definitely not disappointed. This was a good read but I'm even more excited for Christie's book. She cracked me up.
I received this book from the author as a prize in a giveaway. I really enjoy this series. Sarah has created some very likable characters in this series. We met Annabelle in the first book. She became the best friend of Violet who she met early on at Elton Hall. Annabelle is somewhat naive. In the first book she became good friends with another student, Jason. He has a girlfriend from home but she never seems to join them for meals or hanging out together. She meets an new student in the second year, Kingsley and is immediately swept up into a relationship with him. Unfortunately Kingsley and Jason don’t get along, causing uncomfortable confrontations for Annabelle. We meet a new student named Christie who is a commuter and becomes good friends with Annabelle and Violet. We learn that Annabelle gives her virginity to Kingsley after waiting for so long.
I enjoy the camaraderie between the students. I also enjoy the mystery surrounding Kingsley and the threats to Violet and David’s relationship. It was a fun read, returning to a college situation. I highly recommend this book and the series.
This is the second book in the series, and I did enjoy it, at times I wanted to reach in the book and slap around Annabelle, god she was so stupid!!! I kept trying to remind myself, that she was a teenager, and sometimes we do dumb things, and also when we are in abusive relationships we do not see things correctly, but come on!! We read her thoughts, when she would say to herself Hoes before Broes, but then when Kingsley would call Violet a slut, she did not say anything, no, that pissed me off, because supposedly Violet is her best friend, you just met this jerk. Then when he called Christy vulgar, again you just met this jerk. And all the times, all the excuses for allowing him to be a jerk, to treat you like crap, to hang out with that other druggie girl. No, No, No. I am glad that she and Jason, finally got together, and I loved reading about Violet and Bernelli, and that they were still going strong. I am happy to read about a new character, but I hope we also get to read about Kyle, he was kind of left out in this book. All in all, I still enjoyed.
Second Snowfall starts after the Christmas holiday break. In this semester we follow the exploits of Annabelle’s first relationship with the sexy Kingsley, where she bites of more than she can chew. Violet is still with David, buts problems from the past come back to interfere with their happiness. This book follows the three best friends’ adventures at college and their journey into adulthood. I enjoyed the slice of life good and bad. There is plenty going on before Annabelle finally realising who she really in love with. In this book we meet Christie who becomes fast friends with Violet and Annabelle and who is properly will have a starring role in the next slice of life from The Chronicles of Elton Hall. This is definitely geared to the younger reader, new adult even though there some of the darker parts of college life. Annabelle comes across more like a High school age in relation to her relationships. It was pleasant read just not my cup of tea. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I confess that I wasn't mad about book one in this series, but I had already agreed to review book 2 before I had read it, and so, given that a lot of the issues I had with the first book arose from the author's inexperience, I decided not to withdraw from the blog tour.
And on the whole, I'm glad that I read this book. The author's writing technique has significantly improved. The conversations are much more natural in their cadence and language and as a result, the whole story flows better.
I do still struggle with the maturity level of the characters. These are girls who are in college, yet our lead character is talking about whether or not her current boyfriend, whom she has been with for about 2 seconds, is "the one". That naivete is a jarring counterpoint to the topics dealt with in this book.
Despite the frustrating character behaviour, this was a better written book and more enjoyable overall.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I have to start off by saying that I had a very tough time getting into Annabelle. She is in college yet has the mindset of a young high school girl. If it wasn't for the content such as sex and drugs I would have pinned this as a YA read. It all left me feeling a bit unbalanced the whole book. I realize she was intended to be a much more innocent character than her friends, yet it made for a frustrating read. On the other side of things. This is written well. It is easy to follow and visualize what is happening. If you want a dramatic, while simple to follow story, then this one may be for you. I did not read the first book yet I did not feel as though it ruined me reading this one.
This story has challenges, friends that help you through problems, and always have your back, through college, and life, and how someone else uses drugs and how much money they think will get them out of troubles, and a lesson learned, looking forward to reading more books from this author
Cute Christmas feel. Poor Annabelle! What a mess she got herself into. And which guy is for her?? There’s some mystery in this book that added some Drama. Very well done.
