Ethan & Wyatt #1-3

Ethan & Wyatt: Getting Him Back / Boyfriend Material / Relationship Status

Rate this book
Fall in love with Ethan & Wyatt in bestselling author K.A. Mitchell's male/male trilogy, now available for the first time in print

Getting Him Back

Ethan may have followed his high school sweetheart to college only to get dumped his first day there, but that won't stop him from exploring his new life. Things start looking up when he meets Wyatt, who's mysterious, grouchy, hot—and possibly not gay. When their friendship deepens into something neither expects, Ethan has a new challenge: convince Wyatt this isn't just a pity fling but something more serious.

Boyfriend Material

Physically, it's easy for Ethan and Wyatt to be together—sort of. Privacy is hard to come by in a dorm, but finding ways to connect is half the fun. Emotionally, though, Wyatt isn't sure if a relationship is something he can make last—years of hiding his emotions have left him with shaky self-confidence. And when it's time to head home for the holidays, their steamy on-campus connection may not translate so well to the real world…

Relationship Status

Life doesn't come with a syllabus. Together, Ethan and Wyatt are getting the hang of real life when a new responsibility for Wyatt throws everything off balance. Ethan's doing everything he can to prove he's in this forever while Wyatt is torn between a future with Ethan and a debt to the past. Too bad they didn't cover this in college.

K.A. Mitchell

K.A. Mitchell discovered the magic of writing at an early age when she learned that a carefully crayoned note of apology sent to the kitchen in a toy truck would earn her a reprieve from banishment to her room. Her career as a spin-control artist was cut short when her family moved to a two-story house, and her trucks would not roll safely down the stairs. Around the same time, she decided that Chip and Ken made a much cuter couple than Ken and Barbie and was perplexed when invitations to play Barbie dropped off. She never stopped making stuff up, though, and was surprised to find out that people would pay her to do it. Although the men in her stories usually carry more emotional baggage than even LAX can lose in a year, she guarantees they always find their sexy way to a happy ending.

Audio – Teddy Hamilton & Cooper North totally rocked the narration!! 5 ++ stars!!!
Story – 4 Stars

4.5 overall for the series, round up to 5 because Ethan and Wyatt were awesome together and I loved the progression of their relationship.

This series was the perfect combination of angst, sweetness and steam (well okay by my standards, there were a lot but I’m not complaining this time because the shit was hawt as hell and well done).

On a side note: it was cool learning about Waardenburg syndrome. Before this book, I had no idea about it.

Ethan and Wyatt's story was everything you'd expect from a New Adult book (with plenty of sex). All the hardships young people face in their lives, such as first love; college education and housing; losing your first love and trying to get him back; going wherever your dick leads you (and figuring out where your dick goes, and how) even if it might get you into real trouble; falling in love again and trying to arrange your life around that person and planning your FOREVER.

Book 1 was entirely from Ethan's POV. I liked him, he's a fun, open person, which is everything Wyatt isn't. Wyatt is quiet, he's hiding because of his past and also because he has Waardenburg syndrome, which causes hearing loss and pigmentation changes on the skin, hair and eyes.
I liked how they came together, even though it was a bit too fast for my liking, but that's young love I guess.
Ethan's ex, I'm sure the author wanted him to be the villain and lots of readers did see him as one. I didn't. I understood him... yeah, he could've handled the situation better, but you know leaving high school and your hometown behind is confusing enough even without a boyfriend to think about. Anyway. I was glad he didn't take up much space in the book.

I loved it, and wasn't sure what else was left to say in the remaining two books, but I went on. And I'm so glad I did, because book 2 was from Wyatt's POV, and I loved it more. I'm not saying that Wyatt's feelings ran deeper than Ethan's, but for some reason the author decided to lay it all out there in the narration, so the readers knew Wyatt's feelings, but of course he kept it to himself and left Ethan in the dark.
"His voice sounded like it had a hard time getting out of his throat. “It’s just, I can’t ever tell if you’re happy. And I want to make you happy with me. Any way I can.”

"It’s hard as hell loving someone who’s waiting—no, looking—for a reason to push you away. I don’t get why you want to be miserable when I just want you to be happy.”

So I was gushing and swooning a lot while reading book 2. *-*
Book 3 was dual POV and all about maintaining a steady relationship. Ethan was tiptoeing around Wyatt, he thought Wyatt would bolt if he pushed too hard, too fast. They didn't want to separate for the summer so they found jobs and rented a shitty place with 2 other guys, so it wasn't a dream come true. They were playing house just for the summer. But Wyatt started to loosen up, it took him a long time, but he started to picture a future together with Ethan. I loved seeing Wyatt open up and smile.
Book 3 could've been a bit longer, there were time jumps I wanted to be filled in and I desired a more romantic ending. I also hoped we'd get to see more of Ethan's family.

I really loved the writing style and well... basically everything else. It was fun and upbeat. Reading my review it might come off as a melancholic story, I assure you it's not. :) You can read all 3 books in one go, it's like one long book.
Really enjoyed it. 4.5 stars

5 stars for the narration, 4 for the story.

A bit sex-heavy, but then these two guys are, what, nineteen? So I suppose that's not exactly unlikely! We've got a grunpy/sunshine pairing as bubbly Ethan follows his boyfriend Blake to college only for Blake to dump him almost as soon as he gets there. Ethan is determined to get Blake back, but along the way finds himself drawn to Wyatt, Blake's prickly, nerdy roommate who always seems to be trying to hide in his hoodie.

Wyatt is self-contained and aloof for good reasons; he's been bullied all his life because of his unusual looks, and a youthful mistake made at a real low-point means his self-esteem isn't the greatest, and he struggles to believe that a guy like Ethan, who has it all - good looks, confidence, a supportive family - could possibly see in him.

The romance here is a bit insta-love-y, but the author does a good job of exploring the various obstacles that come along with figuring out who you are and who you want to be in an engaging and realistic way; while Ethan and Wyatt are in a near-constant state of arousal around each other, they are aware of their faults and talk things through, much as Wyatt despises talking about their relationship - or just talking, really. I'm not the biggest NA reader because I've found they're too full of overly melodramatic hand-wringing and navel-gazing - but that's refreshingly absent here.

I confess I picked up this audio because of Cooper North and Teddy Hamilton , two of my favourite narrators - and they don't disappointing. Cooper North absolutely nails Ethan's Tigger-like optimism and bouncy personality, and Teddy Hamilton is every bit as good as Wyatt, all those sharp edges and insecurities perfectly portrayed with a bit of a gravelly snarl to his tone.

All in all, this turned out to be better than expected. I knew the narration would be good (these two need to co-narrate more often!) but the story held my interest, too.

I enjoyed how clumsy teenagers are about relationships. How easy they break up/kiss a stranger/love a picture/change their minds/seek petty revenge. It felt realistic.
Well narrated.

Sweet & Saucy & Sexy & Surreal

I read the first installment of this trilogy a year ago and then came back to re-read it along with the subsequent novellas in one fell swoop. So glad I did.

You will never meet a couple like Ethan and Wyatt. college students who carry substantial issues with them when they meet, and then fall in conflicted lust, and eventually heated but troubled love.

Ethan is a marvelous character, tall and gangly and oversexed to the ultimate. Wyatt is an extraordinary individual with an almost unheard of genetic situation that plays into every aspect of the relationship and plot without once making you feel sorry for him.

What these two develop--and accomplish--is wonderful to observe and walk through with them. You see it all through both of them--the first book is Ethan's POV, the second Wyatt's, the third is alternating chapters.

The underlying tension which exists in each chapter is often balanced out by scorching sex--and it's wild in many situations, but perfectly logical and acceptable. The way they march to their Epilogue is determined, and the supporting characters, especially Wyatt's Uncle Owen, are perfectly drawn.

If you like YA themes you will love this one, but get the set so you can sweep right through all if it in a couple of sittings.

Ok, so I’m a sucker for books about grouchy tough guys and the persistent sweet guys who change them. If that appeals to you as well, then you’re going to love these books as well. These are really three short books, but I got them all together in an audiobook from the library. It’s really like reading one book.

Ethan follows his jock boyfriend to college, and is dumped the first day. He meets Wyatt who has a genetic condition called Waardenburg syndrome. Wyatt hides his differences behind his hoodie and a grouchy disposition.

I don’t usually like college stories. What appeals to me is reading about someone with what they consider a disability learning to overcome it and accept love.

By the way, if you get the audiobook both narrators are wonderful.

This was a decent young adult read, but it was very sex-heavy. I can accept that sometimes, but with a YA novel, it's a bit overkill. It took away from what could have been a great story about love and acceptance despite physical appearances or disabilities.

Ethan followed his high school sweetheart to college. His boyfriend dumps him though shortly after Ethan arrives. Ethan is heartbroken, of course, and tries to win back his ex. Well, he doesn't expect to encounter his ex's roommate, Wyatt, who is a bit of a mystery and standoffish for a while. But there's just something about Wyatt that intrigues Ethan.

Wyatt has Waardenburg syndrome and it makes him stand out in a crowd (a blue and brown eye, streak of white in hair, deaf in one ear). So he hides behind his hoodie and comes off as broody to those who encounter him. But Ethan sees past that and thinks Wyatt is sexy and someone he wants to get to know better. Wyatt is also a felon who served 2 years in juvie and had his record sealed after that. Only he told his roommate about it (Ethan's ex) and the ex blurts it out to Ethan, so then they have this to deal with on top of Waardenburg.

I wouldn't exactly say they become friends first - Ethan uses Wyatt (or tries to) to get his ex back, but then he finds himself liking Wyatt a whole lot more. Wyatt isn't sure if he's gay or not, so Ethan kisses him and then it's like a never ending book of sex, especially in public places.

Ethan's ex was not a very nice guy in this one. He became very jealous after he dumped Ethan and then decided he didn't like that Ethan was moving on and wanted him back. I was happy to see that Ethan didn't try to get back with him and stuck by Wyatt.

Wyatt has a lot of self-esteem issues in these books for a long time and always seems to think the worse. Of course, given what he went through going up, it's understandable, but his 'Debbie Downer' attitude became a bit annoying after a while.

The best part of the book was the epilogue. I found it incredibly sweet and especially loved what Ethan's dad blurts in the end - it gave me a good laugh. I just wish the rest of the book had more substance. It's not a bad read, just not the best M/M romance or YA book.

Very instalove. Why did these two even like each other? I didn’t really see these two working as a couple. It wasn’t the chemistry, but their personalities just didn’t go together. I didn’t ship them. And the sexy times were good at first, but got kind of repetitive after awhile.

This story was interesting. It felt like it had a lot of potential and I did grow to like both of the characters but there were some things that just fell a little short for me. I thought that there could have been a little bit more growth between our two characters in their communication and ability to express their emotions to each other. They did get better, I just thought it could have gotten further and maybe seen some of that development with conversations between them. Ethan and Wyatt both have some issues but they see and feel something with the other that continues to draw them back together. The story was interesting and did hold my attention the entire time. There are definitely plenty of sexy times, which makes sense given the personalities and age of our two main characters. It didn't feel like it was too much for the book but there were times it felt like they were using it as a band aid with their relationship and we really didn't see them fix that on page. Again, great potential with the story and characters and it was still entertaining.

This was a very well-crafted new-adult story with outstanding audiobook narration. We meet two flawed but sympathetic main characters who we join as they meet all of the challenges of being 19 and learning about themselves and relationships and adulthood. Not my genre at all, but I really enjoyed the deftly written journey. The structure of the three books/parts was well done: the first entirely from Ethan’s point of view, the second from Wyatt’s, and the third mainly alternating. There are no emotional shortcuts here, there are no easy outs, these guys have to work for everything they get. Supporting cast is portrayed with texture and nuance, especially Ethan’s mom and Wyatt’s uncle Owen.
I purchased this audiobook to be a fluff listen on audible‘s monthly sale because of the Hamilton/North narration pairing, and was very happy to end up with such a solid novel.

Audiobook review:

Easier to review three at once, since I listened to them back to back.
I really disliked Ethan. Not sure if it was because of the narrator giving him a 'stuck up' feeling, but i was pleased to get to book 2 and have the story switch to Wyatt's POV.
Book 3 was from both of their POV. It was jarring to go back and forth between a narrator I enjoyed and one I didn't. By the end I stopped caring.

If you like a lot of sex and smut in your books, then you will like this one. I swear, there averages out to be a sex scene in every. single. chapter. I think the characters were in lust with each other and I felt no chemistry between them at all.

I did like that once of the side characters was deaf, and there were some ASL in the books.
But the rest? Meh.

Yeah, no.

DNF at 1%. The epic reading slump continues.

I know what you're thinking, I didn't even give it a chance. But you know why? Bc the opening pages were a collection of disgusting stereotypes. There's only one right way to be gay, apparently, and the MC is failing…bc he wears cargo shorts? And apparently a “real†gay man barely knows what a bra is and would never say the word “bra†out loud? Okay, Chad. What the fuck is this shit?

If the MC is doing gay wrong, I guess I am too, so it's a pass for me.

Ethan & Wyatt is a wonderful, low-angst, young-adult love story. K.A. Mitchell does a superb job building multi-faceted characters that you can’t help but root for. Bonus: the sex scenes were some of the best (i.e., hottest) that I’ve read in a long while.

I don’t think I’d have enjoyed the trilogy nearly as much if I’d had to wait to read each book separately, but since I didn’t, I’m adding this one to the ‘will read again soon’ pile.

I will admit that one of the narrators being Teddy Hamilton drew me in as K.A. Mitchell is a new to me author and Cooper North is a new to me narrator. That being said, this was an enjoyable YA/NA MM listen filled with not only heat and heart, but it tackled various other issues that made the story unique.

🎧Audio narration was good. This can either be read as 3 books or the whole shebang which is what I did.

What I enjoyed:
The sex
The reality of YA/NA relationships
The chaotic relationships of Ethan

What didn't work as well for me:
Wyatt's extra salty attitude = exhausting
The uncle injury = idc
The club scene = nobody cheated but I still didn't appreciate all the rubbing

This series was fantastic. Great narrators and a great story. It’s college romance between a clingy guy and one who lacks confidence because of his appearance. They overcome their issues and are soulmates. The spice is amazing as well.

Sexy and sweet

A relatable, sweet story of boy meets boy, boy can't fight feelings for boy, hot sex ensues, and they live happily ever after. The challenges they face are real and well written. This will be a reread for me over and over again.

It was a g guilty pleasure sort of a read for me, because of all the steamy scenes in the series. The story it self was not bad, but got lost in between physical stuff, at least for me. Would have enhoyed more in depth descripstions of Ethans and Wyatts thoughts and feelings. Loved that it wasn't too dramatic regarding Wyatts past and he wasn't secluded bad boy because of it.

Smut, ah the adventures of a slut. In this case, two sluts. Meet Ethan and Wyatt, two boys with diametrically opposed natures with nothing in common except that Ethan’s former boyfriend Blake is now Wyatt’s roommate.

They are two teens who meet in college. The sparks don’t fly the first time they meet because Ethan is wounded at Blake’s rejection and Wyatt suffers from a syndrome that gives him unusual eye and hair coloring and a background that is less than stellar.

But when the match is lit, these two discover they can have great sex, no, really hot sex together. The sexual scenes are graphically detailed, almost deliriously so, and quite prolific, too. It makes sense; they are two horny male teenagers so you expect sex and lots of it to be on the menu. In fact, once these two get going, the sexual scenes occur every six or twelve pages or so.

The storyline isn’t left lacking. Ethan has friends and family. They offer their commentary on the burgeoning relationship between him and Wyatt. Both teens struggle with balancing school and family (i.e., Ethan struggles; he’s got problems with calculus and Wyatt’s family seems to consist mainly of an uncle who has the same syndrome he does). Both try to work with each other’s failings. Ethan is almost relentlessly optimistic, which baffles Wyatt. Wyatt doesn’t think love can fix his problems because of his past, which frustrates Ethan. Tiptoeing around the minefield of Wyatt’s simmering anger and misery poses challenges for both of them and made me a little sorry for Ethan. It can’t be easy dealing with someone whose first impulse is to leave whenever the situation gets too intense.

While I quite liked the two boys, I found myself wishing that they weren’t quite so focused on having sex all the time, everywhere that they could manage it. Whether in public rooms, on the stairs, in a kitchen or the great outdoors, they’re going at it hammer and tongs. At times, the story reads like hardcore porn with a scanty love story wrapped around it. They were barebacking right from the start, too, which left me a little queasy.

While I can accept that modern-day kids would want a vast amount of sexual activity, I found myself getting a tad bored with it by the second of the three stories presented here. But if you like copious, spicy sex scenes between adolescents, this novel more than delivers.

I can’t begin to describe how thankful I am that I stumbled upon this book. From the wonderful personalities of the characters to the captivating storyline, I was hooked from the beginning. The intimate scenes were well written and plentiful throughout the book. The only thing that saddened my was when the closing credits played and my glimpse of these character’s lives was over. I highly recommend this read.
