There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his kingdom…except lose her.

Lena is a life coach who has dedicated her career to helping others find their purpose. After realizing she had lost her own path somewhere along the way, she made the journey from Earth to Albaterra in the hopes of finding her calling. When three months on the alien planet pass and she is no closer to the self-actualization she needs, however, Lena begins to feel like a fraud.

Khrel is a no-nonsense War Chief in the swamp kingdom of Pentaba, and he knows exactly what he wants. His life is a tribute to his Elder and his people, and he is willing to compromise everything for the Council. Until he meets Lena. She is able to burrow past his hardened exterior and see him for his deepest self unlike anyone else has before, and his unwavering alpha demeanor is thrown into question as he finds himself craving to know her and lusting after her voluptuous figure.

The Council has permitted a camp of Novai to settle in Pentaba, but Khrel discovers it might be his undoing when one night leads to desperate acts of violence. He rescues Lena from a rogue Novai colonist, but in saving her life he realizes he may lose his. Lena is forced into isolation under Khrel’s watchful eye for her protection and hatches a plan to escape and reunite with her only friend. When her plot puts her in jeopardy again, it is up to Khrel to protect her, but at what cost? Lena soon learns the lengths the muscular A’li-uud will go to for her safety, and Khrel is faced with a possible future in which everything he’s worked for is destroyed.

Is there any chance Lena and Khrel can have it all, including each other?

Khrel, a Pentaba War Chief, was patrolling the grounds and approached the walls of a guarded Novai colony encampment. His own people were restless with this colony being among them. Also patrolling the grounds was Xam who came out of the darkness to talk with Khrel about the repercussions of the Elders permitting this group to stay. As they talked, a loud boom and repeated bangs erupted from within the compound. Khrel sent Xam to bring back extra help while he explored the situation.

Lena and her roommate of 3 months, Isabelle, were out in the woods as well. They heard and felt the loud boom inside the compound. Then ear-splitting screeches started! The two human women ran down the path to escape. Isabelle was erroneously running toward the awful sounds and, as Lena tried to grab her to turn her away, one of the ghostly Novai jumped on her and knocked her to the ground. She fought and Isabelle kicked the creature in the side. Before the Novai could leap on her again, Khrel arrived and wounded it.

As they headed out to return the Novai to camp, it turned and leaped at Lena yet again! Khrel fired his weapon and was forced to kill it. They headed to the Capitol to report to Elder Savani and Khrel carried the body over his shoulder. The decision was made for Khrel to take Lena to his home to protect her. It was imperative that she survive to testify to the events of her being attacked like that. The Novai could not be allowed to stay if they had begun to attack defenseless humans.

Much to Khrel’s discomfort, the Elder decided that, until she could testify to the Council, Lena must be protected – in Khrel’s home, with him as constant bodyguard. But with Isabella not being protected, Lena escaped and tried to get back to her. However, she was captured and taken into the Novai compound, and locked in a cage! There was fresh blood on the floor of the adjoining cage and Lena saw no evidence of who had been there or what had happened while she was unconscious! The Novai were savagely shrieking and wildly dancing around a huge bonfire! Would Khrel be able to find Lena with no clues as to what way she had gone? Would the Novai sacrifice or kill her?

This was a well written story. The description of the land and environment was so vividly drawn that the reader actually felt they were standing there observing it firsthand. The characters were excellently portrayed, giving insight into their personality, strengths, and weaknesses. The story line was good, leaving the readers unsure of where it would take them. I definitely recommend this addition to the Albaterra series. Well done, and worth reading!

I genuinely liked this story. There were elements that I felt were missing from both the plot and the characters otherwise I'd bump this up to 4 stars. Overall, the story was quick-paced and was a great addition to the series with great descriptions of a new area of Albaterra and new struggles being introduced.

Lena was a feisty woman who didn't let panic make her freeze. She gets herself into some pretty serious scrapes but does her best to act and attempt to save herself even though Khrel isn't far behind. We don't get a lot of background for her and I don't really see her finding her purpose aside from what she finds with Khrel and I can't say I'm a fan of her seemingly having no true purpose that isn't attached to a male. Her training is good and it makes her insightful and compassionate as well as passionate, but while she claims to have lost her way I find her passive in her pursuit of finding herself.

Khrel is struggling with his new set of tasks because they're not what he's used to, what he feels is his calling in life. I can't blame him, that's for sure, but through the forced proximity he has a chance to find and have what he never knew was missing in his life. I enjoy Khrel and his predicament, focus, desires, and passion. He's compelling and I looked forward to every time the point of view would switch to his perspective.

There's the drama with the Novai that begins but doesn't find resolution, probably because there will be more with them to come, but instead of being a bit more leading with that or putting something of a teaser near the end we're left with a slightly vague mention of their aggression in relation to Khrel's predicament and it feels incomplete. I hope there's more as the series continues.

The side characters are painted in a clear light and the there are hints of nefarious or caculating motives but nothing really happens with that by the end of the story so I'm not sure what to make of that. Overall, though, there are individuals that I'm excited about and others that I have reservations about. I'm looking forward to more from the series to satisfy my curiosity.

I read and voluntarily reviewed this ARC from Hidden Gems.

Khrel is a War Chief and responsible for the protection of the human colonists, as well as his people. The Elders allowed the Novai, the aggressive alien race responsible for the attacks on the planet, to colonize on a trial basis. Lena is an unmotivated life coach in the human colony. Rogue Novai escape their heavily guarded encampment attacking Khrel. Lena, in the swampy forest outside the human colony, is also attacked. Khrel, hearing her screams, saves her. After reporting the incident to his Elder, Khrel is stuck protecting Lena in his home. The Elder is concerned the Novai will try to stop her from testifying about the attack. Now Lena is supposed to be an intelligent, educated woman, but in my opinion she is a childish and selfish woman that doesn't care about the consequences of her actions. Can you tell I don't like her? Not only does she put herself in mortal danger more than once, but she puts Khrel in danger trying to save her from her stupid decisions. If that's not enough, because of her he is put on trial for murder. She can't even control herself during the trial and totally disrespects the entire Elder counsel. I really liked Khrel and though I thought Lokos had no sense of humor, Khrel has even less. My heart went out to him and I was hoping somehow things would work out. My dislike of Lena is why I only gave it 4 stars. I almost stopped reading when she never listened and continued to put them both into terrible situations.

Love this book, Love this Series!
This book is the fifth in the Albaterra series by Ashley Hunt. This book has such an interesting storyline. It doesn’t have to be read in order, it can be read as a standalone. The story line takes us to another area of Albaterra. As I have mentioned before there is much detail in Ashley’s stories. She makes sure her descriptions of the scene are vivid so that you are transported to that place. The story held my interest from beginning to end. Lena is part of the new human colony moved to Pentaba region of Albeterra. Khrel is the War chief of Pentaba. He is, of course, a dominant male. Lena is a life coach but feels she is missing something in her life. She is feisty and doesn’t always do as she is told by Khrel. She gets herself into some difficult situations and Khrel gets her out of it. There are a couple of sexy scenes but nothing out of control. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book for my honest review. I would recommend this book.

What a great book I loved everything about it being a big aliens fan I just couldn't stop reading it I always enjoy a bit of danger, romance and a kidnapping just to keep it interesting, Anyway Khrel is a warrior chef of Pentaba of Albaterra and Lena is a life coach from earth that has traveled to albaterra for a new start and when trouble starts with Novai race that has also made a home there as well but when Lena is attacked and khrel come to her rescue he is angry because he had to kill 2 novai and it could become a big problem with there race, they both have to go before the council to answer for their actions so while they wait to be called khrel has to babysit Lena and he is definitely not happy but as the time passes they get to know each other and sparks start to fly between them, will it all work out, will they get HEA read this book to find out you will enjoy it I did. Lena is a life coach and has travelled to Albaterra in order to find a new purpose in her life. Khrel is the War Chief of one of the kingdoms and is focused on his job until he meets Lena and finds himself out of his comfort zone needing to know her. The Novai colony nearby is a source of danger after some rogues attack Lena and Khrel has to babysit her. When she tries to escape the isolation to find her friend she ends up being kidnapped by the Novai. When Khrel rescues her is signals a possible end to everything he has worked for – can they both come out of this with everything they want?

I really liked this story which had a great mixture of danger, drama and love as it developed between Khrel and Lena. The story was well written and I really enjoyed the drama and danger involved in the parts involving the Novai. I could feel some of the emotions they were going through and could empathise with them.

For sure this book is worth 5 stars!
In this book I saw author development - I need more parts with such beautiful descriptions like in chapter 1 (there is more!).
Lena is a life coach that came to Albaterra to find her own purpose. She accommodated in Ponteba, near to new Novai camp. These are strange creatures that wanted to settle on Albterra during Lokos's book. She was attacked by one of them. What will happen after being rescued by handsome Albaterra male - Khrel?
Khrel is a War Chief in Ponteba. He has only one purpose in his life - serve his elder and community. What will happen when he will start do develop feelings to Lena that he is supposed to protect?
This read was so nice, so deep in some parts (descriptions of Lena and Khrel saw), events were intense and very emotional! I need more Alien Romances like that!

I love this series and I am so excited to see Hunt expanding the world of Albaterra as well as all the new developments that are being brought into play.
Sci-Fi romance at it's best with plot and suspense.
This story covers Khrel and Lena
Khrel is the War Chief for Petaba and it is his job to protect the people who live in and around the area - this includes any possible threats from the newly settled Novai colonist - who not everyone views as acceptable cohabitants on the planet
After Lena and her friend are attacked and Khrel must protect them he is placed in charge of guarding Lena until the council can make a proper judgment and announcement
But Lena has other plans - plans that put everyone on a course of possible destruction
It seems that it's not just us humans that leap before we think

Lena is human and moved from earth to Albaterra to start a new life and to find her purpose.

Khrel is an A’li-uud War Chief and rescues Lena from the Novai. He is given orders to guard her so she's not attacked again and they wind up together.

This was a good alien romance. The story is told from both Lena's and Khrel's POV.

The author gives lots of details about the surroundings. For example...

“Walls taller than most houses extended outward on either side of the gates and curved in perfect arcs before disappearing behind themselves to surround the Capital in its entirety. Upon entrance, one was greeted with the sight of the Elder palace, a regal castle of towers and atria and black okiluk stone that shone in the daylight."

Overall it was a good story and there is a HEA

Khrel is the fifth book in the Albaterra Mates series and can be read as a standalone. Lena a life coach who gets burned out and decides to regroup and take a trip to the planet of Albaterra. When she gets has some problems with some of the creatures from the Novai colony, she is rescued by Khrel. Life is still dangerous there for humans. Khrel is not happy when the Elder orders him to take Lena to his home and protect her. He feels that he should be with his men. No spoiler here, but know that the chemistry increases and the story gets more intense.. A great series that has just gotten better with each book. I received an advance copy from HG and voluntarily chose to review this book.

What does a War Chief need with a Life Coach? More than he could imagine.

The most amazing and inspiring couples O know bring out the best in one another, challenge one another to be better people, emotionally support one another in good times and bad, and inspire each other to be their best selves. Khrel was in no ways lacking as an individual, or a warrior when he first encounters Lena, and yet, somehow these two characters discover more on themselves, and one another, through the journey this story takes them on, and when all is said and done, they grew to be one of my favorite couples in this series so far.

I will admit I'm looking forward to Zuran having a story. In his few scenes he proved himself a grade A friend.

WOW! This is my first time reading this author and I have to confess Sci Fi Alien romances are at the bottom of my preference list. But this story has shot it upwards several notches. Lena is a human Life Coach on the planet, Albaterra. She came here to find direction in her own life. Due to an incident with the Novai colony, she meets Khrel, the War Chief of Pentaba, the swamp kingdom. Together these two characters lead us onto a journey of emotional situations, dangerous interactions with the Novai settlers, court intrigue, jealous outbursts and amazing adventures. It is a beautiful story on every level. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five stars.

Khrel is a great read in the Albaterra Mates series! The main characters both face struggles that they must overcome. Lana with her life purpose and Khrel with his feelings for Lana and what it could mean to him and his position as war chief. The story is mainly set in the boggy marshland of Pentaba but they also travel to other kingdoms and there is the reappearance of some familiar faces as well as hints as to who the next story will be about. In the end its Lana using her skills as a life coach which allows her and Khrel to get their HEA! If you've read the previous stories or if this is your first one, you will enjoy this alien romance!

These books just get better and better!! I find sometimes with serial books they can become very similar in the plots and this has not happened to any of these books, each one is individual and the stories have different aspects of Albaterra life or the A'li-uud differences between their cities. The writing is brilliant, the story lines are all exciting and leave you wanting more. The chemistry between each character is well written and even the supporting characters leave you wanting to know more about them.
I love this series!! Excellent work again Ashley!!

I received a free copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review.
From Rex to Dane to Khrel - the three best stories in the series.
This was a match made in heaven even if it doesn't seem like it at first. But, like any good relationship, they start by being strangers, friends, and then lovers. You'll see it grow from affection to respect to love.
We encounter with two other communities of Albaterra; the author likes to describe the surroundings so you get a good idea of how it's different from the other ones we already met.

Great next book in series:)

Thoroughly enjoyed this new book in the series. It's set in the Pentaba region (swamp, marshy) with lots of challenges and conflicts very different from the previous books on Albaterra. Lena and Khrel are excellent together, both strong characters (i did say conflict, heh heh) and of course HEA. This is a great series and Ms. Hunt has another winner!

Adventure, danger, and a love that grows between two that you would've never thought would work. This is a fun addition to the series. I started the series with book three and then worked backwards, they all can be read as a stand alone, but is good to give you a bit of background to start from the beginning. I voluntarily read an ARC copy and it was very enjoyable and a great escape into another world for a short time. Great descriptions of a new world and engaging characters.

Life on Albaterra is continuing to be dangerous for humans. The newest residences of the planet are not behaving well and events start to steamroll for humans and A'li-uuds. Once again the Elder Council is faced with major decisions to keep everyone safe. This is the fifth book in the series, and they just keep getting better. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I always wait impatiently for the next book in this series to come out, Ashley has me believing in this alternative world with strong dynamic characters and cunningly laid plots that leaves me wanting more. Khrel and Lena were charismatic characters together, their story was beautifully written, emotional and so realistic. I can honestly say I recommend this book. ❤️❤️

Just love this book as much as the others in this series. Everything flows right through the whole story. Interesting concept to involve another interplanetary species. We'll have to wait for next story to find out what going on with them. Highly recommend you add this book and series to you library, you will not be disappointed.

A warriors choice

I choose this rating because the story was wonderful & kept me glued to my seat. I loved the story line and felt the romance\sex was tastefully done. The action was consistent but also the restraint on actual violence was part of the story line which I felt held a lot of promise for future stories. This was highly entertaining a great read.
