DNF 1st time. What was this about?? A fire fighter wants a dog so he talks his boss into one . I love dogs but come ON. At 20% I am still reading about the damn dog. Enough! The characters and their actions are just WRONG on so many levels. GRRRRRR!
*helps J man: arson? try again.* (notes to Self.)
Went back & finished entire book. Moved from one star to three stars this time as I wanna give kudos to any writer that can shine the light on the Holocaust and its survivors. Bravo! The complete story was good but it still didn't 'thrill' me. It needs a spark of something. (I felt I was proofreading a HS book report. No PIZAZZ!!) Hopefully I'll read more of Mr. Styles work.
Kyle & Rick do not get along. Rick is very snappy and impatient with Kyle. He appears to be offended he is being bothered. This is sad, considering Kyle was Rick's hero for a day at least.
Rick is just different. From a different culture, region, country, etc. They just need to learn to communicate on a level that works between them. The attraction is certainly there for both sides, and this helps pave the way.
This story seems hot and cold. I found myself wondering if they should even get together. I was just not prepared for the personality clashes. Overall, a quick and simple read.
***I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Kyle is a firefighter who grew up being told that he couldn't have anything too nice or that he loved too much because he'd lose it. Based on this premise, most of his interactions are superficial. Things change once he saves Rick from a house fire. As they become closer, through the training of Pongo, Kyle's dog, they come to realize that someone really wants to destroy Rick's life. Since Rick has had adversity in his family, he refuses to give in to fear. Finding the arsonist takes on new importance when a brick is used as a means of intimidation.
Thus a story is a wonderful credit to the strength and determination that firefighters all over bring to each and every fire they fight. That being said there is also a humorous bend that everyone who's been married will get. The truly stubbornness that is the male animal comes out in the best of way's. Add a high strung puppy and you have it all.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. Short and sweet fireman story of finding love even after your mother said to never love. Kyle not only saved the man he's going to love but is saved himself. Good read.
Kyle thought the fire house need a dog a Dalmatian. The problem is the dog Pongo was a free spirit. Rick was able to train Pongo and Kyle. An arsonist was caught and romance flourished.
Nice story about how a dog brings two men together. One is a firefighter, the other an arson victim. It's kind of top-heavy; the resolution only comes in the last few pages. Typos: see notes
