Lady Jeanette Bower had always known what her life was going to look like. It had been drummed into her since she was a little girl. She would marry a titled gentleman and make him a splendid wife who was above reproach. It was what her mother had always wanted for her and Lady Jeanette always did what her mother wanted her to do. She was a good girl. The only problem was, Lady Jeanette didn’t expect a six foot four Australian with sparkling tawny coloured eyes and a mischievous grin to walk into her life and show her that there was perhaps another path for her to take. Drew Taylor had just landed his dream job and the fact that it was half way around the world from his meddling mother was just icing on the cake. He never expected to be swept off his feet by a woman on a hot pink Ducati. A woman who also happened to be one of the queen’s ladies in waiting. And then there was the complication of the viscount she was supposed to marry. How could a cane farmer’s son from tropical Queensland compete with a man who could give Lady Jeanette the title she had always wanted? He couldn’t, but that wouldn’t stop him from trying. This is a Sweet Romance - These are romantic tales without the bedroom scenes and the swearing, but that doesn’t mean they’re boring!
I am a business owner, artist, cook, mother and wife. I live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia with my wonderful husband, two beautiful sons, a dog and a cat (both of which are female because, hey, we needed to balance all that testosterone!)
I am a ferocious reader with eclectic tastes and have always wanted to write, but never had the opportunity due to one reason or another (excuses, really) until finally taking the bullet between my teeth in 2014 and just making myself do it.
I love to write stories with heart and a message and believe in strong female characters who do not necessarily have to be aggressive to show their strength.
I sped right from one book to the next and A Royal Expectation didn't disappoint!
Emma Lea does a great job of keeping it fresh and exciting throughout this series. I love that each subsequent story follows one of Alyssa's Ladies in Waiting (and begins with an "E").
Lady Jeanette and her Aussie were really fun to follow, I kept thinking of the strong Australian accent and then that led to Thor and well.... he looks like Thor... #winning
The story has good bones. Self esteem issues due to emotional abuse from a parent is something many girls can relate to, and adding a romantic element to that theme makes an engaging read.
However. Jeanette was just unlikeable and annoying in my opinion. It’s one thing to have your character start off with no backbone fir the purpose of having a dynamic character arc where she’d find inner strength and become a stronger person blah blah and all that. But that’s not how Jeanette’s character was written. She was a spineless whiny baby the entire book until the very last paragraphs of the last chapter. I did not enjoy this book. I forced myself to finish it and even then i skimmed through much of it. Words I’d chose to summarize this book are BORING. ANNOYING. INANE.
I had enjoyed the series so far, especially book 3 but it’s disheartening to see the author regress to such a dismal story as this. I hope the next book isn’t as disappointing as this one
This book has the same plot as every other book in this series: woman thinks she has to marry someone because her family lies to her and it comes between her and the man she's supposed to be with. I was also very irritated by the titles and form of address. The rank of titles is completely wrong and the honorifics are both wrong and inconsistent. How do you write a book complete based on titles and not bother to look up the first thing about them?
