John Ostrander is an American writer of comic books. He is best known for his work on Suicide Squad, Grimjack and Star Wars: Legacy, series he helped create.

Originally an actor in a Chicago theatre company, Ostrander moved into writing comics in 1983. His first published works were stories about the character "Sargon, Mistress of War", who appeared the First Comics series Warp!, based on a series of plays by that same Chicago theatre company. He is co-creator of the character Grimjack with Timothy Truman, who originally appeared in a back up story in the First Comics title, Starslayer, before going on to appear in his own book, again published by First Comics in the mid 1980s. First Comics ceased publication in 1991, by which time Ostrander was already doing work for other comics companies (his first scripts for DC Comics were published in 1986).

Prior to his career in comic books, Ostrander studied theology with the intent of becoming a Catholic priest, but now describes himself as an agnostic. His in-depth explorations of morality were later used in his work writing The Spectre, a DC Comics series about the manifestation of the wrath of God. His focus on the character's human aspect, a dead police detective from the 1930s named Jim Corrigan, and his exploration of moral and theological themes brought new life to a character often thought of as impossible to write. He has also worked on Firestorm, Justice League, Martian Manhunter, Manhunter, Suicide Squad, and Wasteland for DC.

This epic collection took a bit of a step down.

It was still mostly a fun read, but it had quite a few really slow and uneventful arcs.

It picked up later on but was still filled with quite a few mediocre issues.

Good, but really very middling as it is truly the middle of this enormous series.

I continue to love this series and the work of Ostrander and Dursemma.

The filler issues on Dac and between Cades story didn't do much to keep my interest, but I am thoroughly enjoying Cade and Krayts story as it runs towards its head.
And I actually really loved the finale of the Vector crossover, I didn't love the crossover as a whole, it was a bit all over the place but the final 4 issues tied in to this series so we'll and actually let me understand what the hell the crossover was about and was thoroughly enjoyable.

Excited to try to finish this series and it's follow up volume this week, thus finishing my legends comic complete read!!!!!

This was a page turner. It moves on with the storyline from the previous volume, and I can't say that I am disappointed. I enjoyed reading it, as it is better than the last series. I think that the writers realised that the action was a bit weak and amped it up, although the sidequests are still excessively long. When reading the story I found that there was one issue with the overall story, the stormtroopers. There is this battalion and it seems as if they don’t have a crucial part to play. They only look for jedi near the jedi temple. I think that the writer just made an attempt to include stormtroopers so it would apply to all star wars fans. On a brighter note I did find myself wanting to rewatch all of the Star Wars movies again, I guess it was the nostalgia that the books held that wanted me to revisit the time when I was an obsessed Star Wars fan. Overall the content of the book was immersive and very interesting. I only took two breaks while reading this volume and have managed to complete it in under two days.

The second of the three Star Wars Legends Epic Collections covering the Dark Horse series Star Wars: Legacy. This volume collects issues 20-36, 41 and issue 0.5 [written as 0 1/2] (which acted as a second primer to the era). The main arcs have art by Duursema while what could be considered filler issues (they aren't, they just don't focus as heavily on Cade instead building the rest of main political players) are done by other artists. See my review of Volume 1 for a more in depth review (and a mini-rant on issue orders). One thing to note is that issues 28-31 make up the conclusion to the Vector arc which was a crossover event between the four ongoing Star Wars comic series that Dark Horse had at the time. This volume has a brief summary page to fill you in on the broad strokes of the Vector arc though within Legacy it's fairly self-contained.

Lotta big swings, weird contortions of the past (the unwillingly revived Azlyn in a vader-like contraption, horrifying) instead of merely repetitive echoes, some great nasty Sith scheming (finalllly), and really rewarding side-plots that get the full space and attention they deserve. I wish more comic narratives were done this well!

An improvement over the last volume for sure. It still makes some of the same mistakes and its still too tryhard and edgy but it is entertaining and I appreciated how it had more respect for all eras of the Star Wars EU than the films. Definitely am getting more interested in some of the storylines, even though I don't think Cade Skywalker is not that interesting of a protagonist

Honestly, you do kinda have to wonder what the writers were thinking, setting it up so that Jaina and Jagged established the Imperial Knights as opposed to the jedi and were so hell-bent on re-establishing the Empire. Kinda makes everything post-NJO pointless, doesn't it? But no, the Sequel Trilogy is what ruined the OT heroes' legacies.

Excellent Sequel

Love this entire series, especially the way it builds on all of the expanded universe to this point. Not quite as strong as volume 1 but still really fascinating stuff for an old Star Wars fan!

This arc is full of side-stories and weird, but cool, EU lore that helps build out the galaxy
