Squirrel Girl is BACK in an all-new adventure and things are about to get . . . hairy. Thanks to Squirrel Girl, Ana Sofia, and the Squirrel Scouts, the crime rate in New Jersey is at an all time low. It makes for safer streets but also bored-er squirrels. That's why it's super exciting when Doreen's school announces a new mall is being built right next to their town. Mmmm . . . Doreen can smell the soft pretzels now. The corporation building mall has also announced that there will be a competition to choose the mall's mascot. Because malls need mascots?Anyway, Doreen's school will be voting for a cat and the neighboring school will be voting for a dog. As the relationship starts to unravel between the two towns, Squirrel Girl and her friends suspect something more sinister is at work. With the help of old friends like Ana Sofia, Tippy Toe, and The Mighty Thor as well as some surprising new ones, Squirrel Girl will squash a villainous plot and save everyone. The unbeatable Squirrel Girl is ready for more nuts AND more butts! Are you?

Watch out, Spider-Man, I have a new favorite Marvel hero!
Well, maybe not. I really love Spider-Man. Including in this book. I also love Dr. Strange, but alas, he does not warrant a cameo.
REGARDLESS, this book was unexpectedly fantastic. And yes, Kris, I realize I did it again and accidentally read a sequel first. But that is okay because this sequel rocks!
If you love quirky humor and superheroes, I recommend this one. It was a blast to read.

Okay, i may be slightly biased by my UTTER RELIEF at reading a book I expected would be good and it ACTUALLY BEING GOOD, but this is more of the same cheerful superhero romp as the first book. Recommended for all ages, honestly. More delightful Marvel hero cameos, more delightful squirrel action, more perky footnotes.

And did I mention that I expected to enjoy this book and I ACTUALLY DID? So obviously it also works as a cursebreaker.

4.5 stars.

As a huge fan of the title character since her creation, I might be biased. But there is no such thing as "Too much Squirrel Girl"!!

This is a worthy sequel to the first novel: the authors carry on Doreens "pre-comics" story in a manner that is enjoyable and entertaining.

There's something refreshing about this character, and her unswervingly optimistic outlook on life in this day and age, and the authors continue to capture a perfect mix of teenage angst coupled with that forementioned optimistic outlook.

Overall, a fun, quick read for fans of the Unbeatable One.

I should probably give this two stars, but the mere presence of Squirrel Girl is enough to earn a bonus star.

I would probably have enjoyed this much more if it were about a hundred pages shorter. The boring digressions with a cranky teacher, the Squirrel Scouts, and a couple human/animal hybrids were a real drag.

The book works best when it focuses on Squirrel Girl and Ana Sophia's relationship and the actual confrontation with the main villain. The page about the bite strength of squirrels and Doreen's proportional equivalent is the stand out moment.

It is nice that the novels exist, but Ryan North and Erica Henderson's comic books remain the best source of Squirrel Girl greatness.

Okay so this was amazing and I loved it (FRIENDSHIP! SUSPICIOUS MALLS! INCLUSION! THE UNENDING HORROR OF TALKING TO FRIENDS ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL! SQUIRRELS!) but also I am really sad that no one wants to talk to Winter Soldier and he didn't get to save the day? This was his wheelhouse and he got left out! Buddy!

İlk kitabın ortaokul atmosferi, sincap şapşikliği, hatta marvel bağlantısı oldukça şaşırtıcı ve keyif veren özelliklerdi. Tamamen aynı formülü ikinci kitapta uygulamak ve yeni birşey katmamak açıkçası sıkılmama sebep oldu. İlk kitapta hikaye bitmeliydi.

Objectively maybe 4* but I have no critical perspective when it comes to these books. Any book that induces spit-take laughter and so many urges to share best quotes gets 5*.

There are a lot of comic tie-in novels out there, but they don't get better than this. Shannon and Dean Hale get the humour and fast-paced weirdness of the Squirrel Girl comics and they've created some fantastic new characters (Ana Sofia has to be one of the best sidekicks ever). I laughed my way through this second instalment of the series and I can't wait for the next one. (8+)

You can't say Shannon Hale doesn't take notes. This middle-grade sequel comes with less squirrel chapters and footnotes and more superhero texting antics than the first installment and is a much better book because of it. Unlike most of these tie-ins, the teen angle doesn't feel forced or like the author took a regular book and swapped in some comic book names at the last minute.

And, really, how can you hate on a story where Hydra opens a mall?

“What do llamas smell like?” “Chkt.” “Like an ancient terror ready to shed its skin and devour the world? How do you even—”

Squirrel Girl is back! My library finally had this book on their shelves, and I was happy. I didn't have to wait until next year when the paperback would FINALLY come out. I could read it now! Yay!

Now before I start with all the good, gooey, awesome, squirrely, epic stuff, I want to get one thing of my chest.
As there was one thing I didn't like. A thing that changed my rating for the book from 5+ stars to just 5 stars. And that was the stupid and absolutely unnecessary dramarama between Doreen and her friend Ana Sofia. I was just so frustrated with this, that I even had considered to just stop reading. Yes. It was just so cringy. So eh. So not needed. If these girls would just have talked from the moment things went off rail, everything would have been gone smoothily. Instead Ana Sofia is butthurt, because boohoo Doreen says x and y and reacts x and y. Yes, but that is Doreen for you. She doesn't even know she is doing it, she doesn't mean anything with it. Yet, you instantly take insult, and instead of just telling her, you crop it up, and then say cryptic shit. Which makes Doreen feel like crap because she just doesn't get what is wrong with you. And apparently Doreen also doesn't seem to think that maybe she should talk. *sighs*. And yes, I can imagine that Ana Sofia didn't have fun things in the past, but you are definitely not helping yourself.

Now, we got that out of the way, let's go to this book and let me fangirl about it. So be warned, chaos is coming! :P

This time we have a new mystery for Doreen to solve, namely there is a mall being build and people are acting way too aggressive in regards to a poll for a new mascot. What is going on? And why does that logo look so much like the Hydra logo? Mmm. What will Doreen do to save her new hometown? Well, tons. Including fun conversations with The Avengers (and oh my, I loved my butt off with how she responded to Iron Man, RIP that dude), Tippy Toe and Ana Sofia POVs in which they are also trying to figure out what is going on with that mall. There are new enemies to defeat, though I had a laugh that Doreen thought talking was the way to go. Then again, it made it more fun. As yeah, most superheroes just kick a villain's butt, so this was quite refreshing. I do have to say, that after a bit, I was rooting for Squirrel Girl to just throw that villain up in the air.

But the potential Hydra Cell isn't the only thing that Squirrel or Doreen are battling with. They are also trying to make it through middle school, handle a teacher who is acting quite mean (but no worries we see later on what is going on which made me sympathise for her), figure out how friends work, try not to drown in homework. And then there is the whole she wants to be a superhero but she is still a teen and her parents are still responsible for her thus not allowing her to always do what she wants to do. I can imagine that she may struggle. As Doreen life is often confusing, yet as Squirrel Girl she can be who she wants, doesn't need to hide her tail or her strength and other squirrely powers.

Like the other book there are delightful footnotes. At first I had a bit of a hard time with them, they distracted me from reading, but after a while I loved reading them, see what Doreen had to tell us (and see her break fourth wall quite a few times).

Also like the other book there is texts to The Avengers. Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Thor, Spider Man, and others make their way into Squirrel Girl's life. I just adored reading those texts, and had such a laugh while reading them.

I loved that we didn't just have Doreen/Squirrel Girl's POV, but also Tippy-Toe, Ana Sofia, and even the villain's POV. It gave way more insight in what was going on, and also made everything even more fun to read. Though my favourite POV is of course still Doreen.

The whole big villain story which totally explodes in the later half of the second half of the book? LOVED IT. I just couldn't stop reading, I had to know what was going to happen to Squirrel Girl and her army of squirrels (and yes, she was finally able to say her answer when someone asked her about what army she had with her). I had to know what was going to happen to Ana Sofia. Would our girls be able to save the day?

It was fun to see who the villain actually was, I have to say I didn't expect THAT person. Thank you author for writing it that well, and not giving it all away in one go. *applauds*

Can I also give bonus points to how lovely Doreen's parents are and how supportive they are of their daughter? I just adored these two.

I am also happy with the resolution as to what the Squirrel Scouts have to do. It was getting a bit silly to see them just appear all the time and try to help Squirrel Girl. With tiny villains it is OK, but if they start meddling with everything? Eh. Not the best. Squirrel Girl would be more distracted with trying to make sure her friends are OK. She needs to focus on getting rid of the baddies.

The ending was terrific, congrats to Squirrel Girl, I know the feeling when someone finally talks to you/asks you something that you have been wanting for ages.

Well, I could probably go on and on and on and on about this book for a long time to come, but I don't want to make this review too long. So I will I end with that I hope that there will be more Squirrel Girl books, I just don't this series to end. I want more Doreen/Squirrel Girl, more villains, more silly texts and footnotes.

Still so cute and lovely and STILL MAKES ME DESPERATELY WISH ANA SOFIA WAS IN THE COMICS!! I mean she even started teaching Doreen about computers and said maybe they could both study it at the same college? So please tell me Ana Sofia is safe at some other college and that’s the only reason she’s not in the comics k thx

Also Thor is amazing in this, and of course, all of the texts from the other Avengers.

Initial thoughts:

Similar to the first book, 2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious was highly entertaining, fun and adorable on all levels. I am not very familiar with Squirrel Girl in the comics, but if she's anything like Shannon and Dean Hale's Squirrel Girl, I am a fan!

Night quite as dazzling as reading about Squirrel Girl's first adventure in "Squirrel Meets World," but still a fantastically funny and amazing read. And we get another 2.5 pages of squirrel names in which I read them all aloud to my husband! I wish there were going to be more, but as far as I have heard, this is it for the MG novels!

The Hales once again do a great job translating the manic goofy fun of Ryan North's Squirrel Girl for middle grade prose. I love this character so much.

The best part of pre-ordering a book and then immediately forgetting its release day is the joyous surprise of getting an email that you can read it RIGHT NOW! So I was already really happy to start this book, and it lived up to its predecessor in sheer delight and hilarity. The plot here involves Doreen and her merry band of friends and friendly squirrels taking on an EVIL SHOPPING MALL. And also Thor hanging out and chatting about socks, and hilarious superhero group texts, and FRIENDSHIP. It's GREAT. The world needs more joyful, adventurous, kind stories of this sort. I sincerely loved this and laughed throughout. A.

I finally decided to check out the sequel to the Hales' 'The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World' novel, and holy acorns, it is adorbs! And funny as chitter-y heck, too. The wordplay and sentimentality are too precious!

Who knew that a children's Marvel book about an evil opening mall could be so delightful and sweet? For it is also about the dangers of propaganda and advertising, the importance of kindness and finding common ground with troubled people, nonviolent solutions to conflicts and problems, friendship, loving and supportive families, middle school angst, animals, and overcoming fears with the help of a close-knit (preferably fuzzy) group.

And Squirrel Girl/Doreen Green is at the centre of everything, so the book is an instant win.

Shannon Hale and Dean Hale write her voice and actions so well; that are so true to her character. She really is a fuzzball of goodness and light personified, even as a fourteen-year-old struggling to survive middle school.

Tippy-Toe and her family of heroic and intrepid squirrels are great. Like any good 'Squirrel Girl' story, there are hundreds of the fuzzy little rodents present, saving the day either unnoticed, or by attacking and covering bad guys who cower at their mercy, or by covering Squirrel Girl herself for dramatic hero posturing.

Squirrel Girl's best human friend, Ana Sophia Arcos Romero, is given equal page time, and her own chapters from her viewpoint. She is wonderful - a fully-rounded, three-dimensional Hispanic deaf girl who may also be on the autism spectrum. What a brave young teen. Squirrel Girl learns a lot from Ana Sophia, as Ana Sophia learns a lot from Squirrel Girl. Empathy, listening and understanding are key to any healthy, lasting friendship.

How fun! I read '2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious' in two days. Delectable! Bonus: It ends on a 'Squirrel Girl' minicomic! Anything with Squirrel Girl in it is fun, cheery and charming; I shouldn't have been surprised, and I should have read it sooner. This girl is an optimistic, peppy pick-me-up pill with a bushy tail and buckteeth.

However, the novel sequel only mentions Captain Marvel in one Avenger group chat chapter, disappointingly. Same goes for She-Hulk. I wish those two would have been actually, physically present, and not merely in texts. Thor (Odinson) is the only Avenger who participates in the story (discounting the minicomic). A couple of spoilerific cameos at the end are cute, though. And there's a mistake where one of the Squirrel Scouts - they're the middle school group of Squirrel Girl fans, plus LARPers, who're kind of useless, annoying and not-so-supportive, aka whiny interferers and nuisances - Janessa, is called Lanessa once.

One big point of criticism: In the scene where Squirrel Girl incapacitates a cat woman villain, Mistress Meow, by using a laser pointer (which she got at the beginning of the story from a Laser Lady...it's Squirrel Girl, so why not?) to lure the cat-person-hybrid out of a supermarket and towards the authorities...why doesn't she keep using it, as Mistress Meow proceeds to wreck havoc outside in traffic, endangering far more people?

Oh well. Those things don't tarnish this nugget gem of a sequel, starring one of the greatest superheroines of all time.

Experience joy by reading it, like I did!

Sidenote: '2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious'? They really missed a grand opportunity in the pun game by not naming the book '2 Fuzzy, 2 Furrious' instead.

Read my review of the first book here.

Final Score: 4/5

Squirrel Girl is one of my favorite superheroes so it was great to read more of her adventures! "2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious" is fun, silly, and made me very nostalgic for 2010s Marvel media, but it's not as good as book 1.

Just freaking delightful. Everything I expect from Squirrel Girl along with a wonderfully written mexican-american deaf character, Ana Sofía. In this sequel Thor is now a unofficial member of the Arcos Romero family. They call him tío and Ana Sofía's mother makes him homemade socks. Probably one of the best parts of the book. The overall arc is about nefarious doings during the launch of a new mall in Shady Oaks/Listless Pines. Is something more sinister causing the uptick in fighting and aggression between the two towns? Maybe Hydra? FYI the main villain is hilariously disgusting (and animal themed).

The story is tighter paced than the previous novel and it's obvious that the Hales love writing Squirrel Girl and do it very well. It feels just enough like North and Henderson's comics while still feeling unique to this pair of writers. I usually am very skeptical of stories shifting mediums regardless of direction be it book to movie or vice versa or in this case comic to novel. Kudos to the authors for proving me wrong twice.

This is a definite recommend to all the older kids I know and any adults who love lighter more funny super heroes. And any squirrel lovers out there.

Another stellar novelisation of middle-school aged Squirrel Girl. Her friend Ana Sofia is Mexican-American and part of the deaf community. The signing and inclusion even of "tail sign" with teh squirrels is heart-warmingly inclusive. As always; Squirrel Girl is just amazing: proportional strength of a human-sized squirrel and capable of punching anyone evil out of the urge to be evil...but yet she always tries to default to kindness first which; along with the humor, is one of the great reasons to love this book.

A mall is soon to open and Doreen's town is locked in a battle with the neighboring town over the future mascot of the mall: cats or dogs! Yet; something looks a bit strange about the mall's new sort of sinister smiley-face-with-multiple-legs logo... While Squirrel Girl navigates her new super hero status and role; Doreen tries to fumble through school work and having a best human friend. Friendship is hard, y'all; but these characters make the effort.

This was fun, inclusive, action-packed, and a delight to read. I can only hope there are many more such novels to come!!

This second book about the adventures of Doreen Green (and her superpowered alter ego, Squirrel Girl) suffers from a case of sequelitis - it tries to capture the sunshiny joy and silliness of the first book, and doesn't succeed quite so often or quite so well. It even pulls off the same gag - an epic list of squirrel army names - except this time, not in the footnotes. Overall, an easy but not hugely engaging read that sketches out Doreen's attempts to fit in in middle school and the miscommunications that plague her relationship with her fantastically-drawn best friend, Ana Sofia. (Get Ana Sofia in the comics!) The absolute best bits remain Squirrel Girl's interactions with the Avengers via text and, occasionally, in person. At those moments, the book comes alive, with a gleeful, ridiculous humour that almost matches the brilliance of Ryan North's ongoing comic series.

I love these books so much! This is a great story of friendship, growing up, and how to take down bad guys with more than punching. I love how friendship takes such a strong role in this story. Anna Sofia and Doreen are still learning what it means to be best friends and sometimes that means really talking and listening to each other.
