The cats are back in their continuing mission: to boldly go where no one has gone before. This companion to the bestselling Star Trek Cats brings the many adventures of Star Trek: The Next Generation to life in a faithfully feline homage to the hit series. From encounters with the Borg to adventures on the holodeck, Captain Picard and the rest of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D crew are reimagined as cats with lovingly detailed and eyebrow-raising scenes from throughout the award-winning series, perfect for Star Trek fans across the Galaxy.
Jenny Parks is a scientific illustrator that also happens to be a shameless nerd, with a penchant for drawing animals, dinosaurs, imaginary creatures… and occasionally, people as cats. Somehow, she found herself with a bit of internet fame with the illustration ‘Doctor Mew’, and has been baffled ever since. With a BFA in illustration from the California College of the Arts, and a graduate degree in Science Illustration from UC Santa Cruz, she now resides in Denver, CO as a freelance illustrator, fulfilling her destiny to make a living drawing cute, fuzzy things.
Her published work includes variant covers for Marvel, covers for the Action Lab "Hero Cats" comics, and Star Trek Cats.
I haven't watched The Next Generation, so naturally there were some parts that didn't make a lot of sense to me. Nevertheless, I found the book quite enjoyable; the illustrations are sweet and the cats endearing. Even without understanding the specific allusions to certain episodes, there is much here to enjoy. I would recommend this to Trekkers and Cat-lovers alike.
This is an cute book where the author redrew some of the more famous scenes from "Star Trek The Next Generation" but with cats. The episodes run from "Encounter at Farpoint" to "All Good Things." If you don't recognize a scene, there is a list in the back about what episodes they are from. Scenes include a first encounter with the Borg (Q Who?), Locutus of Borg (Best of Both Worlds), Wolf's protests about not being a merry man (Q-pid), and one of Tasha's last scenes (Skin of Evil).
I think the artist not only captured the essence of what it means to be a cat, but also the essence of those characters. Most of the characters featured are very easy to pick out (Picard could be no other cat but a Sphynx!) On top of main cast (Tasha is in a few as well), we also see common guest stars : Guinan, Barclay, Ro, Sela, and Q. We see some Ferengi from the first season and one of the Tamarians (the ones with the metaphoric languages). This is a good stocking stuffer. I now want to see what she did with TOS!
My only complaint is that I would have loved to see what the author did with Data's pet cat Spot!
How can you not like pictures of cats, whether they be photographs or drawings! These Star Trek cats are no exception; they are adorable. Though I am a fan of the original series and the reboot movies, I somehow missed the shows in between, and I’m sure I’d appreciate the drawings more if I had seen the shows the book is based on. Still, the concept is interesting and the cats are cute.
4.5 stars! This cute little book replaces actors in ST: TNG in various scenes from the show with cats that resemble them! (The episodes are listed in the back, if you want to go back and watch them.) It's great!
Illustrated scenes from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but with the cast replaced with cats. Cute, but not exactly a mass-audience kind of book, and one you're done with after a few minutes. (B)
Iconic scenes recreated with cat. It's cute, and if you are a fan of both Star Trek: Next Generation and cats, you need this collection in your library.
Star Trek: The Next Generation Cats is an hilarious picture book for adults (or kids!) I think children would really love the pictures, but they definitely wouldn't understand the references. You really need to have watched Star Trek: Next Generation to read this, or you will simply be looking at pictures of cats in clothes! (I'm sure cat lovers would enjoy that, too!)
I was impressed by how the author could draw a cat and make you see the person it was based on! I loved her drawing style. All of her iconic Star Trek scenes were done so purr-fectly. ;) Even if you couldn't remember what scene one of the pictures was off of, she included an episode list in the back that was super helpful; yet it's also the part of the book I have a problem with. It's very informative with the page number, season number, and episode number; but... the pages aren't numbered... Yes, the episode list works -- if you want to count the pages first.
This book is a very quick read that will be sure to invoke giggles. It contained many of my favorite moments in the series. I would recommend it for cat lovers and Star Trek lovers alike!
~I was sent a free copy of this book from the publicist for an honest review~
Just finished reading “STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION CATS” by JENNY PARKS (Hardcover). I won this book on Goodreads giveaways. This is a beautifully illustrated full-color little book. I loved it very much as I have always been a trekkie.
I found this in Barnes and Noble and, I confess, I stood there and just read the whole thing right in the store. This is a short humor book easily read in five minutes and I absolutely loved it, I wasn't going to pay $15 for it at the time, but I'm definitely going to buy a couple of copies later on when I find somewhere that has a lower price. One for myself but also a couple to give as presents around Christmas to people I know will love it as well. This has references to most of the best episodes of TNG, and even though I only watch TNG occasionally, I was able to recognize all of the references and I laughed repeatedly loving them all. I completely recommend this to Star Trek fans and animal lovers.
I would have thought that the original Star Trek Cats would be a hard act to follow, but Jenny Parks pulls it off with her feline tribute to TNG. The cast cat lookalikes alone are a joy; the entire book brings back some fond memories. You cannot stop smiling while perusing this … the ‘final frontier’ is, indeed, the heart and mind of our beloved cats (except when they join the Borg). Can’t wait for her take on DS9, or maybe even Discovery!
I CANNOT LOVE THIS BOOK ENOUGH!!! Jenny Parks is an amazing illustrator who has a knack for picking cats which truly resemble the actors in television shows and movies. This book puts the kitties into various episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and so perfectly captures the scenes that I was filled with nostalgia for the series. Here's hoping she publishes follow-ups for the other Trek series, as well as one of her amazing Doctor Who cats!
Is Star Trek cats a literary masterpiece? No... but it has cats and Star Trek: TNG, and I love these two things a lot so it made me massively happy :) In the end, it's a frivolous book that collects a bunch of Star Trek scenes, but replaces the characters with cats. Maybe you'll find secret joy in it as well. Maybe you will wonder why someone wasted paper and ink on this project. Now excuse me, I need to go squee over Captain Picard as a spinx cat!
Star Trek + cats I’m not sure there’s a better combination for me, honestly. I loved the first Star Trek cats that was all Original Series, and so I obviously had to pick up the Next Generation version. I cannot get over the fact that Picard is a hairless cat, and every time Wesley shows up as a little kitten I giggle. That’s what these books are great for: some lighthearted deep cuts into something I love. And cats. Add cats to everything.
So freakin adorable. I can't stress enough how cute it is. Especially when they do iconic scenes from the show! They even do the four lights bit and it's awesome (as it should be). Puurfect for Star Trek fans and cat fans alike. Make it so this book will engage you and will be one you want to cling on too.
This short 64-page book has familiar characters from Star Trek™ The Next Generation with cats replacing the human characters. The drawings are clear, detailed and distinctly portray familiar scenes that feature one or more of the eleven main characters from the show. The book will especially appeal to Star Trek™ fans who love felines.
I love cats & Star Trek, and I loved this beautifully illustrated book. You might be a little lost though if you aren’t familiar with the episodes of Star Trek TNG. There is no plot, just scenes from a bunch of episodes from the series. I enjoyed it though since I’ve seen the whole series on a number of occasions.
I received this book free through Goodreads First Read.
A cute collection of pictures that any Star Trek and cat lover would like. I liked how it contained a list of episodes that the pictures were taken from.
This is hilarious! I love this so much. These are definitely my people … my cats … my cat people. I’ll see these cats interlaying over the characters next time I watch the show and no one will understand why I’m giggling like a fiend. Thank you for this!
Next Generation with Cats! I recognized every episode they had scenes from. some may ask what's the point of this book, obviously its because the whole premise is amazing!
So stinking cute!!! I love this artist and I love that she did this book with The Next Generation crew as well!! Keep it up Jenny Parks, I do love these so much!!
