It should be easy, right? Pretend to be engaged, cook some meals, and take the prize.

But things get complicated fast, and they soon find themselves battling a backstabbing competitor, dodging an old enemy bent on seeing them lose, and trying to avoid their own feelings, which are suddenly spiraling out of control.

Raffe discovers some things are more important than proving himself to his father and he can walk away with something worth a lot more than a trophy… if he can just stand the heat.

Not gonna happen. Stupid and unlikable characters and a villain who is so OTT that she would be twirling her mustache if she wasn't a girl.

Sarah and Raffe are pretending to be engaged to enter and win a cooking contest. The prize money of $500,000 will be more than enough for Sarah to send her brother to drug rehab. Veronica appears as a coordinator for the contest, and is still out for revenge against anyone that she believes caused her to lose her previous position. Just how much grief is Sarah and Raffe in for? During the contest they meet another couple who needs the win for more than just the glory of winning. This couple and the Sarah/Raffe team advance to the ultimate showdown. Which one will win.

Lee Dobbins and Lisa Fenwick have wrote a fun second chapter in the Corporate Chaos Series with well-defined characters, a lot of laughs, and a bit of drama. Not to mention a few characters that will have you rooting for a nice outcome.

This is the 2nd book in the Corporate Chaos series. I haven't read the first one yet, but was able to follow this one without any problems.
Sarah is a chef who wants to win the $500,000 to help her brother. Raffe is a restaurant owner who doesn't need the money, but wants to win the contest to prove he doesn't need his father's money. They pretend to be engaged because only married or committed couples can enter the Chef Masters Challenge, which is being filmed for a cooking network. Unbeknownst to them, Veronica St. James, who blames them for losing her previous job, is working behind the scenes as a show coordinator.
Will they be able to take home the prize with Veronica secretly sabotaging them?
I really liked the story--it moved at a great pace and the characters are developed. It had a great ending, but still leaves the door open for another Sarah and Raffe story. I need to get the 1st book in the series out of my TBR pile and read it.

Really enjoyed reading this light romantic story. I am going to go back & read the 1st in the series and am looking forward to the next.
The narration makes this easy to follow, the cast of characters flows well, and the ending does not disappoint and creates a desire to continue following!

Sarah Thomas’s friend Marly entered Sarah into the Chef Masters Challenge set on Namara Island. Sarah thinks it’s a great opportunity for her to showcase her culinary skills as well as win some money.

Sarah actually agreed to join the contest to look for her estranged brother Tommy and get him into a rehabilitation facility.

Tommy took to doing heroine since he started hanging out with Sarah’s ex Harley who was making his money from dealing drugs. She blames herself for Tommy being on a downward spiral and sees this as a chance to make things right again.

Sarah only found out a bit tool late that the contestants must be engaged or married. As a result she’s pairing with Raffe Washburn, a friend of Sarah’s boss, Jasper. Jasper happens to be engaged to Marly. Raffe owns several five-star restaurants but doesn’t have much cooking experience as Sarah.

Meanwhile the show organizer, a woman named Veronica St. James. is trying to sabotage the contest by hiding some of the ingredients Sarah and Raffe need for their dishes.

Good read though not much going on here.

I received this book for an ARC review and I'm providing my honest opinion. This is a lighthearted story with a fast pace. The authors keep the story flowing quite smoothly. It doesn't end typically with the happily ever after you get from all cozies but it does leave the plot open for another book to see how everyone comes together (or not!). You've got the characters to root for and boo at. :) I'll definitely keep up with this series to see what else can happen to all the couples.

Got this for free on my kindle for a word reading challenge using Heat. Did not realize it was a second in a series, but enjoyed it all the same. I also found that I have another of the series already on my kindle waiting to be read so that will be fun. It was short and sweet and easy, which is exactly what I needed at the moment.

I love this new series by Leighann Dobbs and her sister Lisa Fenwick.
Sarah is an aspiring chef and Raffe is a restaurant owner who dabbles some in the kitchen, they enter a contest for couples to win a cooking show contest with a cash prize of $500,000. While Sarah and Raffe are not a real couple, they pretend to be engaged... that alone causes some conflict, add in Veronica (mean girl) trying to ensure sure they don't win by sabotaging their pantry, switching out desserts.. however they don't let that stop them...
there is a little bit of romance, a lot of laughs and a great story!!

I'm so glad a got this when it was free or I'd be really annoyed right now. Instead I just feel cheated, and wish I hadn't bothered reading this.

Why? Because despite the description giving no indication whatsoever that this is the case, this book is only part of the story. If you want the rest you're going to have to buy the next one too.

Not knowing any of this however, I spent hours getting to know the characters, watching their "fake" relationship start to become real, and getting invested in their lives, only to suddenly find I was at the end of the book with zero resolution to any of it.

So, no matter how good I initially thought the book was, and as much as I'd like to find out what happens next, I won't be buying the next book on principle.

Authors, please note, if your story isn't complete, tell your readers, otherwise you'll end up with reviews like this, warning others to a steer clear of your books.

Not a romance

I didn't realize this is part 2 of a 3 part series, till I finished the book. But, here we are. For me, this was not a romance. It was just another goofy whodunnit. Not suspenseful enough to be a suspense thriller. No murder, just lots of silly mayhem. But, for me, the most annoying part of this 'romantic comedy', is that there was no comedy...at all. And, as for the 'romance'? Two adults, sharing a bungelow for weeks, extremely attracted to each other, both single, and pretending to be engaged. Yet through the entire fiasco, they share exactly three kisses. And only one of them has any passion at all. The other two, are more brother-sister pecks than actual kisses. That's it. That's the big 'romance'. 90% of this story was off on first one silly wild goose chase, then another. For me, this was a real letdown.

Excellent!

How soon till the next book comes out? As always, not a disappointment. Loved the story! Looking forward to seeing how you handle Tanner and Veronica.

This story was so much fun to read with a blend of rom-com and drama movies. Dobbs incorporates multiple layers into the story with Sarah and Raffe pretending to be engaged so they can participate in a televised cooking challenge, Veronica trying to sabotage their chances at winning, and ulterior motives for all of the characters. Sarah is desperate to find her brother who she's hoping to use her winnings to send to rehab but only if she's able to locate him first. Raffe is hoping to prove himself and the challenge could be his ticket to doing just that. There's one catch to their plan that provides romantic comedy elements to the story: the challenge is only for couples married or engaged. This immediately sets up the circumstances for the two of them to spark a connection. First, they have to start with getting along in the kitchen.

The only thing connecting them is their friends that are engaged but as the competition heats up, the chemistry between them does the same. While romance is in the air, the story isn't without its drama with someone working to sabotage their chances but doing so in a way that sets seeds for them to turn on each other. The story has as much drama as it does humor which strikes the perfect balance for fun storytelling. Sarah is driven by the search for her brother who she thinks may be on the island and who she hopes to help by winning enough money to get him into rehab.

Various perspectives are woven throughout which gives insight into Sarah, Raffe, Veronica, and TJ. The competition gives a variety of characters for Raffe and Sarah to interact with such as couples Rob and Brian, Kim and Dave, and Tony and Gina. The couples are all different with their own problems and goals in hopes of winning money. These range from marital problems to one couple being homeless which puts the couples against each other, but instead of working against each other, they form friendships with each other that help creates connections. The story delves into sabotage but Raffe and Sarah reach out to their fellow competitors in a way that creates heart within the story. Raffe helps two other couples which are actions that provide a little insight to the character. Dobbs has a way of capturing the main characters through their strengths, faults, and goals that create well-rounded people that you can relate to. Can't Stand the Heat has a sizzling plot with sabotage, vengeance, romance, drama, and lots of food.

3.25 fun-filled stars

This review is based entirely on how much I enjoyed this story. It was a really fun and quick read and didn't take a lot of emotional energy. I loved how intertwined everyone's story was, especially the obvious relation between Sarah and TJ. I didn't care much about the side relationships (TJ and Veronica). And if not for the constant references to Marly and Tanner's story, I wouldn't have known that this is the second in a trilogy.

Sarah and Raffe made a good team and they made for an interesting read. The background of the cooking contest gave this story a fresh feel. I wasn't really interested in Raffe's daddy issues but I really wish we'd been given a chance to meet his parents.

I was really disappointed in the writing style of this book. It was very obvious that it had been written by two people with completely different ideas about what the book was about. It was also obvious that one of them was an inexperienced writer. Some parts of the story were quite juvenile and rather choppy.

It was predictable, but the friendship between Sarah and Raffe was sweet and had obvious potential to develop into more.

This book is fast-paced and very entertaining. Fans of cooking shows will especially enjoy the plot since main characters Raffe (successful restaurant owner) and aspiring chef Sarah team up (under false pretenses as an engaged couple) to enter a cooking challenge in which the prize is $500,000. Raffe wants to prove that he can be successful without his family's money, while Sarah wants to win enough money to help her drug-addicted brother enter a rehab program. The two are surprised to find that they actually make a good team working together in the kitchen and are attracted to one other, but complications arise when a vindictive former coworker gets a job on the program with the sole purpose of making sure Raffe and Sarah lose and undermining their budding relationship. Raffe's intelligence and kindness win out, and the contest has a happy ending. The door is open for Raffe and Sarah to become better acquainted when he offers her a job as a chef at his new New York restaurant and the villainous Veronica is considering a different life in which revenge is not always her motivating factor.

Cute, juvenile nonsense

I feel as if I should give this book more than two stars, but only because it was somewhat superior to the last book I gave that rating. If THIS book had continued along the lines of the first few pages, it might even have rated four stars simply for its entertainment value. Unfortunately, the fall was rapid and steep.

The chat were incredibly immature. Both fell a clichéd romance novel trick: believing an untrustworthy source of external conflict. This was made worse by the fact that both characters already disliked the source and had reasons to distrust the cartoonist villain.

Each of the protagonists ended up reacting like a tween throwing a temper tantrum.

Two saving graces: the maimn characters realised they'd behaved like idiots and the book ended with a HFN rather than an unbelievable HEA.

This was a cute story that had me reading till it was finished. Loved the characters in it and the way they made friends and then fell in love.

Raffe is a rich restaurant owner and Sarah is a budding chef. They enter a cooking competition to get the experience of competing and the money will be nice. The two of them are sabotaged on the first competition. Through Sarahs quick thinking they come out the winners. This happens again and they are trying to figure out who is out to get them.

As they win competition after competition they get to know the other chefs in the competition. They have some nice people that they are up against. It comes down to the end and Raffe is cooking the final dish....

Getting better and...

Ok, since I really enjoy this author, I decided to give the Corporate Chaos set a second chance. This is not my favorite setting or cast of charectors from a Leighan Dobbs book. I admit that the cast grew on me as did the story line. The mystery element is there, storyline is believable and entertaining, and the people becoming more fleshed out. Now I will have to read the next in line. My biggest annoyance is the length! I think the entire story set could make one pretty interesting book! I miss the quirkyness and laugh out loud humor I've found in her cupcake bakery and mystic series. Can't go wrong with Leighann Dobbs, IMO. This is just not my favorite series by this author.

I really enjoyed this book. It was such an easy, feel-good read.
Now, take my opinion with a grain of salt because before reading this I just finished an emotionally exhausting memoir and chose this book for a specific purpose. It gave me exactly what I was looking for.
I will say, I can see some things in this book that readers might take issue with. Yes, It is very campy. The two antagonists in the story (one of which seldom appears in the story) are very exaggerated "villains". And yes, I will admit some of the storylines are predictable.
However, at the end of the day it depends on what you're looking for. If you want an easy read that will put a smile on your face and give you the warm and fuzzies, this book is for you!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for a review of my honest opinion. I am an avid Leighann Dobbs Lexy Baker books. I enjoy those and the writing was very similar in style and character development as in other books. It is a nice read. You liked the characters and were interested in how the story was going to end throughout.

You don't have to have read book 1 of the series to know what is going on in book 2. There also was no allusion to the first book in the series like some authors do (and for so many pages) so it was nice not have half the book recapping characters who may have been in the first book.

Undecided between giving this two or three stars...

It was an entertaining and easy read. The fact that the story is based on a cooking contest is refreshing, and I quite enjoyed the bits describing the challenges and the pressure. (This would merit the 3 starts).

The characters were sweet, but their behaviour was quite immature, especially when both fell for the classical romance novel trick of believing what the evil character tells them and losing their temper instead of talking like rational adults and fix things. Exasperating, really! The villain was also quite pitiful and the story bit between Sarah and TJ could have been developed further.. (definitely two stars for this!).

I like Raffe and Sarah, their friends Jasper and Marly, and the homeless couple, David and Kim. I like the cooking contest premise.

Otherwise, this book was too unfocused and flighty. It’s like the authors decided to just keep adding new issues to the story to cram in more drama. What seemed to be a light-hearted story suddenly included drug addiction, homelessness, and revenge.

The solutions to all these problems were equally trite, the evil girl turns over a new leaf, the couple’s relationship is repaired by going out to watch sports at a bar.

Had good potential, went all over the place, rudderless, then just ended blandly.

Intrigue and Swoons:
Dobbs and Lisa Fenwick have set their second "Corporate Chaos" romance in a television show cooking competition with a huge grand prize. Sarah and Raffe both plan to enter, but there is a problem. This competition is only open to couples. The fun begins when Sarah and Raffe pretend to be engaged in order to enter the competition.
The book is funny and swoon-worthy. I enjoyed the crisp writing and clever dialogue. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet romance with a few twists.

Well written book. did not end exactly like I thought it would. This is more of a continuing series but that is ok. The second in the series does standalone and you do not need to have read the first in the series to enjoy this book. This book centers on Raffe and Sarah as opposed to Marly from the first book. Both of the main characters grow as individuals . Only future books will let us know how this soap opera plays out. Waiting to see what happens with Veronica, Gertie, and Tommy. Tanner is the grinch that needs to grow a heart.

This is the second in a series, but did fine as a stand alone, although there were some references to the first book. It was a quick and light read with a dawning romance between the two main characters who are posing as an engaged couple to participate in a cooking competition. In addition to their deception, there was another person trying to sabotage them in the competition. It was saved from being unsavory by the fact that pretty much everyone involved had a change of heart and another more needy couple ends up winning the competition with the support of our main couple.

Underdeveloped and uninspired

Sarah and Raffe are likable, if woefully underdeveloped, characters. The romance between them is underdeveloped to the point of being nonexistent. Veronica is ridiculous, and her interactions with her fellow humans are absurd; however, the reader gets a more complete sense of her (obnoxious though she is) than of anyone else. There are so many unexplored opportunities within the cooking contest, and TJ's identity is no surprise. This is a hugely disappointing read.

Underdeveloped characters and cliffhanger of sorts

Book felt rushed and characters underdeveloped. Characters are in a cooking competition for television. In beginning main character can go back to the pantry to obtain items needed to cook and later they can't. I felt it was a Predictable plot and no surprising twists. Romance needed more development too. Just felt it was mediocre.

I'm seriously pissed.
The characters are so one dimensional (even when they were given their chapters); I didn't even saw a character development /sigh/. The MCs also loved to assume things and it's annoying how they both seem smart but idiotic at the same time.
I don't like the writing style either.
The story was interesting at best but I feel like everything's so convenient. Overall, there's really nothing I like about this.

I loved Leighann Dobb's book, Can't Stand the Heat. I did receive it for free to review, but would have purchased it anyways. I honestly love Leighann's style of writing. As a new writer, I really notice it. Love the characters. Was good seeing Sarah take front and center in this story. Would love to read book 3.

Great read

This story sends Raffe and Sarah on a trip to compete in a best chef competition. The plot transitions smoothly from the first book in this series, "In Over Head". Very good read, well written, and with well defined characters. I love this book and am looking forward to the next one.
