Jane Marie Lynch is an American comedienne, actress and singer. Since 2009, she has played the role of Sue Sylvester in the Fox musical-comedy series Glee for which she has won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She has also played roles in comedies such as Best in Show, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Role Models, as well as for her recurring roles as lawyer Joyce Wischina in The L Word, Dr. Linda Freeman, Charlie's sarcastic therapist on Two and a Half Men and as Spencer Reid's mother, Dr. Diana Reid on Criminal Minds. She has appeared on iCarly as Sam's mother. She was also a regular on the comedy-drama series Party Down as Constance Carmell; the role garnered her positive critical response. Lynch, who is openly gay, married clinical psychologist Dr. Lara Embry on May 31, 2010 at the Blue Heron Restaurant in Sunderland, Massachusetts.
Some of you may know that this past weekend it was my turn to take the oldest on a roadtrip to play some baseball. Since I am a person who pretty much develops narcolepsy once in a motor vehicle, I had to find a way to pass the time/perk my interest/keep us alive. Thanks to my friend Optimist, Funny Amazon Reviews was downloaded (for zero dollars, natch, as I am nothing if not poor) and provided both the son and I some quality hardy-hars for about half of our journey (in case you are curious, the other half was spent belting out everything by the Florida Georgia Line at the top of our lungs since the hubs wasn’t along to enforce the “no singing” rule).
This selection is exactly what the title says it is – funny Amazon reviews read by celebrities. Most of the choices have reached some sort of viral fame – the most memorable probably being the “Bic for Women” pens that had females all around the world asking . . . . .
OF COURSE THEY CAN! I mean, those grocery lists aren’t going to write themselves, are they? And just look what happened when boxes of these showed up at an International Women’s Day conference . . . .
Poor guy, he should know better than to try and use things developed strictly for women. He probably got a yeast infection simply from touching it!
The other unforgettable set of reviews featured a pack of wolves on a t-shirt . . . .
According to the narration by Jane Lynch (who was looking at reviews in order to find gifts for friends and family), this was a possible option for young Taylor Lautner. I’m thinking she doesn’t really know him, though, because it’s pretty much common knowledge that at some point everyone asks the question . . . .
To which I say NO THANK JEEBUS!!!!!
I should punch Jane Lynch right in her hoo for even thinking about changing the status quo.
Anyway, this was free and it was fun. We eventually made it to our destination . . . . .
And arrived at a baseball diamond literally in the middle of a cornfield . . . .
The kid pitched his innings and gave up no runs, played solid in the outfield corners, laid down a quality sacrifice bunt, got walked and got a hit . . . .
I had already read most of these reviews on Amazon, and, to be honest, they are funnier in print. I was hoping hearing them read aloud would be hilarious, but I barely cracked a smile. Not horrible, but just go to Amazon and read them for yourself.
I listened to this yesterday on the drive home and I shit you not when the whole review with the gummy bears happened I thought I was going to wreck out. Because I was laughing that hard.
The whole thing is meant to be preposterous and it achieves that goal splendidly. Jane Lynch can deliver dry humor that's unparalleled by anyone other than perhaps Steven Wright. Here she is attempting to decide what to get innumerable minions for the holidays based on Amazon recommendations.
Bottom line there is some weird ass shit on Amazon. That people actually buy!!! And they leave some of the most fantastical reviews in all of the interwebs.
I'm deducting a star because I've actually read through some of the reviews for the 3 Wolf Moon shirt years ago and there are better ones on there than the ones that were chosen.
I woke up this morning, let out the dog and stepped my bare foot into a steaming pile of cat vomit one of my furry demons so thoughtfully left for me on the mat nearest the door. Last week it was mouse innards (On My NAKED Foot!!) so I know from personal experience that it could always be worse. Much worse, actually. Still, after that stellar start to the morning I needed a little laugh on my commute to work before I started thinking bad thoughts and decided to give this one a listen.
Maybe it's my current sour mood or just the fact that I've already read 80% of these funny reviews on Amazon, but listening to them barely made me crack a smile. I think they work better on Amazon where you can actually see the product they're riffing on, especially the wolf shirt. You've got to see that wolf shirt if you haven't already. It's also a helluva lot more fun when you can read the accompanying funny reviews of the item because usually once someone starts it spirals into a page filled with wacky reviews.
I'll give this a three because I guess I liked it a little.
Listened to this when I was stressed and watching my favorite YouTuber wasn’t quite helping me relax before bed. This was a short listen that I had forgotten was a free Audible Original Giveaway back in 2017 (wow). Glad I gave this a shot because I ended up collecting a list of comedians I wanted to watch clips of doing their performances. Other reviewers recommended looking up the actual Amazon reviews for a good laugh and they’re just as funny in print (maybe even funnier with more details than in audio version). Personally am glad I gave this a listen and can see me giving this another listen in the future.
Liked Jane Lynch, Eugene Mirman (his voice just makes me laugh) and Lewis Black!
The sugar free gummy bears review crack me up = worth the price of this audiobook (0.00) IT was the best IMO just because it's the only one I remember.
During a fourteen hour drive home for the holidays, I was feeling depressed. Tired of staring at nothingness and an endless sea of pine trees, I needed to find something to boost my spirits. At a gas station, I quickly scoured my Audible library. I found this short, thirty minute listen. Hey! I like Jane Lynch and who didn't laugh hysterically at the now-infamous "Gummy Bears from Hell" review on Amazon?! (If you know not what I speak of, look it up. It's a hoot!) So, yeah. I thought this would be a fun listen to bust up the monotonous long road ahead. I was right. Jane Lynch does a great job of introducing laugh-out-loud reviews from Amazon. Jane is pretending to shop for friends and relations and gives a stellar performance. Never seems like anything is scripted. The actual reviews are performed by other celebrities, such as Gilbert Gottfried, Joel McHale, Lewis Black, and Margaret Cho. The reviews are performed much like comedy improv. Silly, yes! Would I listen to a full-length version? Absolutely not, but thirty minutes of goofy satire can be quite entertaining on a lonely stretch of interstate. It lightened my mood and made me chuckle. Isn't that the point? Let me just say this, in the Amazon reviewer world there are some seriously creative folk. This listen did wonders for my road-weary mind. Laughter IS the best medicine.
Meh...most of these reviews I had read on memes or message boards or Amazon itself...I had just finished a pretty twisted intense book about a serial killer so I thought "hey you need a little laugh"...unfortunately, I still need that laugh...this was NOT it...Love Jane Lynch, love most of the performers who read the reviews, but, no...just no...
This audiobook is effing hilarious! I only got it, because there was a sweepstake involved, but I'm very amused as a result anyhow. It's short. Kinda embarrassed that I'm counting it as a "book I've Read," but I'm doing it anyway! Fact is, there are a lot of hilarious Amazon product reviews to read. You should read the review of The Book Of Mormon that was reviewed as a D&D type game manual. It's a hoot! On that note, The Holy Bible gets some fairly outrageous reviews that will have you in stitches as well. I guess those are too topically sensitive to put in a give-away audiobook. You're forgiven, Audible. Anyway, the reviews included in this audiobook range from creatively literary to absurdly silly. They'll all make you laugh, unless you have no sense of humor, in which case, don't bother.
Morning walks are my favorite. I live in a small town. It's literally in the middle of the middle of nowhere. When you're out at 6am and the local transportation crew is starting their day, it's not advisable to be listening to this.
I walk with Bluetooth in, you know the truly wireless ones. Well, I digress....I was walking past the depot laughing so hard at the gummy bear review (approximately at 26:00) that I got the, "She must have forgotten to take her meds." stare. I'm sure it will be all over town wide grapevine gossip that I've lost my mind.
Remember the first time you ran across an unusual item on Amazon? A banana slicer. A gallon of milk - not something you'd want delivered over the course of days from a Seattle warehouse. A fully functioning battle tank. A 55-gallon drum of, um, personal lubricant. Sugar-Free Haribo Gummi Bears. (Run, do not walk, to that product page. Don't be drinking anything while reading.)
Wondering, naturally, "who would buy something like this?" you check the reviews. Odds are, you're in for a treat. Many people have taken to penning Amazon product reviews as a creative writing exercise. Some are so good you can't help but share.
This (audio) book is a compilation of some of the better examples of Amusing Review Fiction.
Sadly, the humor doesn't translate as well as I'd hoped. Reading them was a pleasure. But the dramatic readings are so over the top (two words: Gilbert Gottfried - he's one of the more subtle readers) and clogged with foley artistry that you might be tempted to write a smart-ass review of it on Amazon. (Whoah. Meta.) These reviews come with enough literal rimshots and "please laugh" queues to kill a lot of the humor.
Honestly, two of the joys of great Amazon reviews is (1) discovery, and (2) sharing. A book filled with them is a bit like drinking a bottle of flavored syrup. A tablespoon at a time in a cup of soda water can be delicious. Mainlining a liter of syrup in one sitting is nobody's idea of a good time. Short as this audio book is, it took me a few days to get through it. Do yourself a favor and find your own funny reviews.
Okay, I'll admit I was having a rough day and was looking for something light and comedic to snap me out of it. Maybe I expected too much, because I wasn't terribly impressed with this book's humor in the beginning...until I got to the "five pounds of innocent-looking, delicious-tasting Hell Bears."
I don't know if it was the writing, the narration, or just the mental picture I had of the reviewer's expression as they recounted the story but I died laughing. That scene alone dragged my review of this book up a star AND will have me sharing this book around the holidays.
I thought that this would be hilarious. Unfortunately, I felt like each review was picked over long after all of the meat was gone. The comedians who narrate the reviews are well-known, including Gilbert Godfrey's unforgettable voice. It's just that it would have been funny edited down into a minute or two with new material added. It definitely wasn't laugh out loud funny except the gummy bear reviews that friends had read aloud to us during a girls' night. There is much funnier stuff out there.
I wanted a palate cleanser, something short and light after taking over a year to finish my last audio book. This did what I wanted, and Lewis Black’s reading of the classic gummy bears review had me cackling to myself during my evening walk to the bus. But the framing device feels forced and it got old after a while. For the last 15 minutes I was ready for it to be done, and at only 47 minutes long, that’s saying something.
I thought this book was cute!!! I really liked how it was more like a story, instead of just reviews. I enjoyed Jane Lynch’s performance albeit it was slightly irritating that she kept saying how much money she had—but I guess that’s what the joke was (money to spend on amazon products).
The comedians chosen to read the reviews did a great job. Super funny!
Favorite three reviews:
1. Whole Milk - husband cheats on wife 2. Wolf Urine 3. BIC pens for women
This concept is interesting, an audio production of Amazon Reviews; so I listen. My preconceived misconceptions prove bias an unjust filter to reality. I laugh aloud as professional actors and comedians dramatize the script that writes itself.
Online shopping creates a new genre of literature, The Review. Reviews can be amusing and informative. A collection of reviews draws from an endless source of worldwide authors. I wonder if any of them receive royalties from this endeavor.
This was.... okay. It wouldn't have been half as entertaining were it text and not audio. The individual reviews were laced together with weak jokes, and cutesy stories, but it wasn't terrible. I think it took an hour to listen to, so it is funny enough to waste a little time with when you don't have a ton of time to waste.
Reading reviews on Amazon is one of those things that I don't do every day, but when it happens I can get stuck for hours paging through all of the crazy content that people post. This Audible original was well performed and captured some of the most creative reviews out there. They could make a series out of this and I would probably listen to every single one.
After the shit year I’ve had I find myself steering away from drama/angst/pain/suffering/ and intrigue and I am very much enjoying comedy books such as this one. Although it wasn’t the best, it still made me smile. The guy that makes the voice of Aladdin’s parrot was the only exception. He has a horrible voice for audiobooks.
Some of these were humorous. The narrators made them easy to listen to. This did introduce me to the yodeling pickle and for that I am grateful. This will be the gift at every White Elephant and children's party for the foreseeable future.
Disclaimer: My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to or will listen to multiple times.
We humans are very creative, it's not just a simple I love it or I hate it anymore, now it's a story, and sometimes we need an in-depth psychological profile of the product. I mean I can't buy something if I don't know how it will affect my sanity.
A short jaunt through some Amazon reviews read by comedians. I was somewhat entertained but I would have been just as entertained reading the reviews themselves I think. It was free and worth a few minutes of entertainment.
Cute short audible narrated by Jane Lynch and other comedic voices. It was a short cute listen. Most of the reviews I had already read from people sharing on the internet on social media platforms. Great for driving back and forth to work and listening too.
As others have noted, the funniest part of this book (if we can call it that), was about the sugar free gummy bears. I’ve seen those reviews floating around the Internet before, but they were retold by the comedians in a super funny way. Otherwise, not much else was too funny.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I got this free from Audible and it was entertaining enough. Jane Lynch is brilliant always and this is good because of her. It did make me wonder who has the time to invest in writing real life funny Amazon reviews. Maybe it is a new kind of hobby.
Jane Lynch is a gosh darn NATIONAL TREASURE! Also a past time of mine is drinking and writing reviews on Amazon. This is a match made in heaven for me.
Honestly this is a great book when you don't want to think that much and need a giggle.
If you want a laugh, just go to amazon and read the reviews on the 5lb bag of sugar free gummy bears yourself. I read those years ago and laughed my butt off. This audiobook was felt force and was somehow simultaneously too much and not enough.
