THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR THE REMARKABLE WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE!
If you could share one lesson from your life with every woman, what would it be?
Stylist magazine has asked that question of remarkable women from the worlds of entertainment, politics, sport and fashion. With honesty, wit and a serious no-BS attitude, their lessons address the challenges every woman faces today, from climbing the career ladder and finding inner fulfilment, to forging authentic relationships and overcoming life's setbacks.
Each of these impressive women, including actress Romola Garai and comedian Francesca Martinez, has a tale to tell and an experience to share. Empowering, engaging and unapologetically impassioned, their incisive observations will make you think, reflect - and kick serious ass.
This was such an enlightening, diverse read! Women are amazing. I loved the contributions and the valuable lessons shared and I could definitely see myself flicking through this every now and again and annotating away.
Thank you, Penguin Random House UK for sending me a copy.
Work was heavy and emotional for me last week. When I received this in the post at the beginning of the week, I flicked through it and decided to read just one story. I chose the one titled 'Your not the worst mum in the world' (obviously) - I sat there and could not believe what I was reading. It felt like reading my very own personal diary and was just the type of empowering stuff I needed to read. I finished the story, went back to the beginning and started reading them all! *
Thank you so much to penguinrhuk for sending me this book. It is fascinating to read chapters about your mirror self and I absolutely loved it. These really are wise life lessons. You sit there reading and nod your head in agreement. Aside from the slightly graphic paragraphs in one of them, these essays address every aspect of a woman's life. It would make a wonderful gift and is one of those books that you could re-read indefinitely. *
There was just so much I could relate to, that I don't even know which part to share with you. That's how good this is. Rating: 5🌟
It was an amazing read. This is one of the inspirational books I’ve read. All the lessons and thoughts that every woman shared in this book were inspiring. Women are powerful and strong human being.
I had a pretty busy week and I was in a bad situation. This book made me realize that I’m not the only who got problems, there are many women out there dealing with their problems and they are trying so hard to settle everything.
If you guys feel lack of motivation or anything that make you feel down, you could pick up this book and read. Highly recommended.
This is a snappy, pithy little collection of inspiring essays from a range of women. Perfect for a quick pick-me-up and a short jolt of motivation. Some essays provided more to take away than others but there is certainly something for everyone in this short collection. I highlighted several lines which resonated with me, and I will certainly refer back to this book when I need a kick of feminist inspiration!

What a marvellous little book! A collection of 25 short essays, this is a book every woman should read and have on their shelves! Some of the “Life Lessons” that immediately piqued my interest were You’re Not the Worst Mum in the World by Robyn Wilder, The Power of Saying “No” by Reni Eddo-Lodge (need to work harder at this one!) and Eleven Stories About Grief by Anna Fielding. All these essays are great pieces of inspirational advice and at 3-4 pages long, they are easily digestible. This book has sat on my shelves for a while – I generally prefer fiction but I was about to go on holiday and didn’t want to be halfway through a book as we left and this was ideal to keep me occupied for a couple of days before we went and to pick up again when we returned home. This is the sort of book I think every woman should own – not all of the essays will be relevant to every woman but as we go through our lives, I think most will be useful at some point or other. It is a book I would give to my daughters if I had them! Instead I plan to share it with my nieces and friends’ grown up children and hope they learn a little something about how to be strong independent women from these remarkable writers!
This is a great collection of mini essays by some fantastic female celebrities. The essays themselves are too short to really comment on in any kind of detail but, taken as a whole, they make something great. They are all short, snappy and to-the-point, speaking to women on both a fundamental and personal level. So much of this book resonated with me. I'm sure I will dip into this inspirational collection again and again.
As I closed the last page of this brightly coloured pink/purple book, I wondered why it had taken me so long to read it!
The ‘lessons’ comprise of 25 (effectively) journal or blog articles written for the purpose of allowing the reader to ‘not sweat the small stuff’ and realise that it’s okay to not have everything figured out or perfectly planned. Each author provides their own experience in life and turns it into something that you can’t help but mull over later!
I thoroughly recommend this book to all of those that need a little reminder that life will never be perfect but that’s okay. Don’t be put off by the bright colours on the binding, as the content provides thought provoking material that can help anyone that wants it.
This book has been on my shelf since it was published - seriously. Yet, it kept falling to the back of the queue.
But, as they say: "when the time is right, a book will naturally find its way into your hands". Or something or other. How right this badly-remembered-I-may-have-made-it-up quote was.
This was an absolute PLEASURE to read. A short and sharp collection of life lessons generously shared by a number of, quite frankly, incredible and hugely inspiring women. My highlighter was busy as I feverishly made note of wisdom and learnings that I genuinely found impactful and, at times, hugely relevant.
This book took me a while to read but omg it was so inspiring. Being a young women, reading from inspiring Women and being told their stories, being given advice and almost feeling as though I knew all of them personally, this book was amazing! Even though some of the chapters I didn’t relate to, some I may come across in the future and some it was amazing to learn things that other women have had to go through to either understand themselves, find out about themselves or to realise certain things are okay!
This book was a wonderful collection of different life lessons and I enjoyed every single one. Some made me laugh and another brought me to tears on a train, and I will definitely dip back into this book again whenever I need a "big sister" of sorts to help me find my way forward. I would highly recommend reading this, even if these are mainly lessons you have already learnt, it never hurts to refresh your memory or explore a new perspective, as long as you are open to hearing it. Well worth a read and I am excited to see which of these lessons I get to implement throughout my life.
This book has everything- from learning to love yourself to being a new mom.Written by women with their diverse personalities amounting to different perspectives & different attitudes they all had something worth listening. It makes you laugh at times, hurts your heart, inspires you but in the end no matter who or what they are their words are relatable and resonating.A very good read.
I really felt like as a woman I would recommend this book to any woman. It had so many perspectives, minority groups, transgender women, different careers. I expected to read about looks, and self confidence in relation to our outsides but this book was so much more than that. The women in this book alone are remarkable for the words and ways they choose to vocalise struggles women face and how much value we as women and individuals have inside and out.
I loved this book - the essays were short and from an amazing selection of women. Read in one sitting and feel enriched by it. All of them where really good. I particularly loved the lessons from Nimko Ali, Jess Phillips, Christina Lamb, Roxanne Gay, Hannah Azieb Pool, Susan Riley and Poorna Bell.
Really great, love the short essays, easy to dip in an out of. Only issue is some of the advice could be bad for people who are in a difficult place e.g. suggesting calling sexism out, even if it costs your job. Losing our income and survivinllg isn't a privilege we all have. Other than that, great read and some thought provoking advice. Make sure you pick what's right for you.
There were some very strong stories, but I felt like most of them were from very privileged women. I don’t think that a lot of women can resonate with that. Or that the women who wrote these stories understand what’s life for most people/ women like.
An fabulous book full of thought provoking lessons from the everyday trials and tribulations. Very insightful - a book that shows your that we all face the same challenges, evokes empathy, provides advice, motivation and inspiration.
I got this out of my library, but think I will buy it so I can highlight the passages that resonate with me. Each writer had something meaningful to offer.
An amazing round-up of life advice, eye-opening opinions and experiences by incredible women who are using their platforms to successfully create change.
Good solid advice for women but really anyone for life, love, bereavement, relationships and anything in between. Loved the humour and pathos that run throughout this book. Really solid advice.
The stories in this book are indeed remarkable and their stories resonates with me in many angles . You might find at least one that touches your heart the most because I do!
