Tempted by Mr. Wrong, a novel published in 2017 by Jacquie Biggar, is the first romantic suspense book I've read in a very long time. I previously read another novel in a different genre by this author but wanted to sample something at opposite end of the spectrum [of a normal read for me] this week. I love suspense but the romance stuff is fairly new to me. In the end, it was quite a winner. Let's dive into the review...

Tammy-Jo, better known as TJ, has a bad track record with men. She had a bit of an illicit affair with a stepbrother, Jason, in her late teens (parents had only just married) but her father chased him away, causing a family drama that wouldn't end for years. TJ married another guy to help out her father, as they went into business together... but what type of business was it exactly? We don't know in the beginning, yet something seems foul as the husband ends up dead. We know it's bad when TJ looks guilty and someone attacks her to collect missing evidence. As Jason helps protect his stepsister, almost ruin his own career, and stops her father from interfering again, he realizes he still loves her. But how does she feel about the man who hurt her all those years ago?

From the get go, readers know this isn't just a sappy love story; no offense intended to readers who want that... I only mean... this has a whole lot more going on. Murder. Stalking. Revenge. Power struggles. All the typical suspense and mystery elements which kept me highly intrigued. TJ is a complex woman. At first, she seemed spoiled, but as you got to know her, she was heartbroken. Her father is controlling. Her stepmother is developing dementia or Alzheimer's. Her husband was a jerk. Jason is all she has left, and it's been a decade since she saw him. Right there... the hook to want her to win. I fell, and I think most readers will too. She's multifaceted and grows on you quickly.

Biggar developed the suspense quite well. I was all set to cast the villain, and in the end, it's more open-ended until a final decision is made. Who exactly started all the trouble years ago? It may not be what you think it is... and that's why I really enjoyed this book. It had so much of what I usually love to see in my reads, plus some extra. There's one lengthy and detailed romance scene between two characters, which of course is super sexy and physical and all that fun stuff. Sometimes I closed one eye and skimmed (to kinda get the picture) and others I invested in the details. I think I feel like a voyeur when I read those scenes, so I revert back to a 15-year-old boy and giggle. But that's just me, as I can definitely say they are written very well. There was heat, lust, attraction, and intimacy -- all in a good way!

The dramatic opening scene really sets the tone, and from there, it keeps you glued to the pages. I think I devoured it in about 2 hours one afternoon. Having finished two novels by this author, I can safely say she crafts a superb story, writes with easy yet intelligent fluidity, and knows how to capture her audience. I'll definitely be reading more from her, and perhaps I'll learn to love the love scenes one day too! :)

Tempted by Mr Wrong is another exciting book by Jacquie Biggar. Tammy Joe's marriage to her father's partner is in trouble and she ends up walking home from the local country club when he has her car towed away. Who should come to her rescue but her step brother, Jason, who broke off their relationship and disappeared ten years ago. Unbeknownst to TJ, Jason's actions were at the instance of her over-protective father, against whom Jason has borne a grudge ever since.

Jason picks up TJ walking home in the rain and gives her a lift home from the country club. He happens to still be in the vicinity when she trips over her dead husband in the back yard.

Naturally, as the humiliated wife, TJ is the prime suspect in her husband's murder and Jason becomes involved to help her out and keep her safe. The attraction that the two shared is still disturbingly real and it creates confusion for both of them, especially as Jason's presence in Magnolia is not as innocent as he has made out to his mother and step sister. He is living a lie.

Jason soon starts to discover that things are not entirely as they seem with his step father, who he has hated consistently for years, and his mother, who is suffering from dementia.

There is a bit more sex in this book than in previous books by this author that I have read, but it works and is tastefully written. The book has a dual focus with one being the rediscovery by TJ and Jason of their strong feelings towards each other and the other being the murder of TJ's husband and her father's business involvement with him.

This book is a fast past murder mystery with an intense romantic sub-story which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Jason and Tammy Jo are step-siblings yet aren’t related. So, when they explored their feelings when they were about to graduate high school, why did Tammy Jo’s father kick Jason out of the house, calling him filth and other words I won’t repeat? It’s ten years later and Tammy Jo’s marriage is on the rocks and she’s become the laughing stock of her father’s country club. Talk about a bad night. But when Jason pulls up and offers her a ride home, she’s humiliated. Of all nights, he had to witness her spiral down into the mud. No really, she’s stuck up to her whatsit in southern mud with rain pelting down.

Jason’s back in town on a covert operation to bring down two men closest to Tammy Jo. Revenge is sweet, or so thinks Jason. But Jason didn’t expect murder to enter the picture and the one woman who’s stolen his heart may just be the murderer. Can Jason keep his salacious feelings for Tammy Jo at bay while he’s investigating or will he be tempted to dip into Tammy Jo’s honey pot once more?

This is the first step-brother romance I’ve read and leave it to Jacquie Biggar to make it more than just sex. There’s so many layers to this story and I loved it! First, there’s the takedown of a ponzi scheme that Jason’s investigating. Then, there’s the steamy romance between Jason and Tammy Jo. There’s the revenge Jason is seeking with his step-father (Tammy Jo’s father). Oh, plus a murder to solve and Tammy Jo to be cleared. Did I mention the touching sub-plot of how Jason’s mother is suffering from Alzheimer’s?

The suspense was spot-on and something I come to expect now from Biggar’s bestselling books. Sizzling romance with steamy love scenes, also a must in her novels, but it’s the characters that make this a five star and a must-read. I laughed, I swooned, I gasped (totally didn’t figure out the murderer until Biggar revealed it), I cried. Highly recommend!

Favorite Character/Quote: Jason. I loved everything about him from his magnetic sapphire eyes to his fierce love for his mother, from his vow for revenge to his passionate forbidden love for his step-sister. He’s a broken alpha hero but Tammy Jo just might be able to put him back together again.

We are introduced to Tammy-Jo as she wanders down the rain soaked street in broken heels after being humiliated by her husband at the Country Club. Immediately we get the impression of a strong woman who, despite her predicament, is still sassy.

Jason arrives on the scene like a knight in shining armour (or rather, a cute chap in a Mustang) and we begin to learn there’s a history between the two. Pulled together by their parent’s relationship, TJ and Jason are step-siblings, but ten years ago their teenage hormones got the better of them, and they explored a relationship. It was Jason who suddenly walked away without explanation and TJ is still hurting.

Married to Tim, a power-hungry man, TJ has tried to suppress her feelings for Jason but having him back in her life is quite a jolt.

Jason’s return is not as innocent as it seems. He wants to visit his mother who is dealing with dementia, but he also still loves TJ. Seeing her again stirs up all the old feelings. Unfortunately, there’s also the small fact that he is there to investigate TJ’s father with the intention of sending him to jail.

Within the first few pages, we uncover the simmering passion that TJ and Jason still have for one another all while falling over the dead body of TJ’s husband on the front lawn.

Who killed Tim? Is TJ involved? What secrets is her father keeping?

I liked this book. It was well written, and I could connect easily to the characters. If I'm honest, I don’t think it was long enough. It didn’t go deeply into the criminal activities or the investigation around the death of TJ’s husband, and I would have loved to find out more about the dark dealings. There were secondary characters whose stories didn’t get their full potential due to the short length. However, this means there’s scope for a spin-off.

It’s a sweet romance where the hero and heroine play tug of war with their feelings, but it’s wrapped up nicely at the end. There is also a sensitive side plot about dementia, and this is tastefully done. It’s a hugely distressing disease, and the author handles it well.

All in all, Tempted by Mr. Wrong was a good read.

I received an ARC from the author as a new member of her Review Crew. It is the first book that I have read from the author, but definitely not my last. I'm hooked. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Tammy-Jo Hawthorne and Jason McIntyre became step siblings when her father married his mother. Her mother had died of cancer, while his father had died in prison after committing armed robbery. A year apart, Tammy-Jo eventually managed to seduce Jason, and they made plans of a future together, until her father threatened him and forced him to leave suddenly, without telling her why. Her father then convinces her to marry Timothy Hawthorne, for social and financial gains, but she grew to loathe the unfaithful bastard. It the midst of divorce, all comes to a head, when she is thoroughly embarrassed at the country club that they belong to, after he has her car towed away, phone cut off and all her bank and credit cards cancelled. Walking home, she is rescued by none other they Jason, who has been gone for ten years. The next surprise, is she trips over Timothy's body on their front lawn. She doesn't know that Jason now works for the feds and while he is after her ex-husband and father, he is not going to allow any of the fallout to hurt Tammy-Jo or his mother. So not only a romance but a murder mystery, which puts Tammy-Jo unknowingly in danger.

Wonderful characters and an intriguing plot make this an exciting and steamy read. Most likely some of the secondary characters will be featured in a future book.

Long ago lovers, Tammy-Jo and Jason’s reunion may start at the worst possible time (for them) but reading about it was immense fun (for me)! Personal and professional stakes are high for everyone in Magnolia, but there's still time for romance and reconnecting with family. It's all woven expertly into another 5-star story with heart and soul and sizzling suspense.

Tempted by Mr. Wrong by Jacquie Biggar

Tammy-Jo Hawthorne is having the worst day of her life. Her husband has just humiliated her at the country club in front of all of their friends. He’s cancelled her credit cards, turned off her phone, and had her Jaguar towed away from the club. Now it is pouring rain and she’s twenty miles from home. To top it all off she breaks the heel off her Louboutin.

Then her savior, who had been in the bar at the country club and saw it all, pulls his shiny black Mustang to the side of the road to give her a lift home. Jason McIntyre, her step-brother who she hadn’t seen in ten years, isn’t home for a family reunion. He’s on a covert mission investigating her, her husband, and her father’s involvement in a colossal Ponzi scheme. He is going to find it difficult not to blow his cover, especially after he drops Tammy-Jo off at her gated home and she trips over her husband’s dead body.

The plot moves fast and the suspense is high as the case now involves murder. The characters are all well developed and realistic. The dialogue fits the situations that arise as the plot twists. It’s hard for TJ and Jason to deny their attraction is as strong now as it was in high school. And it’s heartbreaking watching Jason come to terms with his mother’s increasing dementia.

I only have one complaint. Jason leaves his Mustang for TJ to drive when he takes his mother to dinner, with a note for her to join them when she awakens from her nap. Men don’t just leave their babies for any woman to drive, it was a sweet gesture. However, when Jason and his mother leave the restaurant they end up in a car chase and Jason and his mom are suddenly in his souped-up Mustang. I understand he needed it at that moment and his mother is adorably priceless during the chase. It is one of my favorite scenes in the story. Since this situation doesn’t affect the plot, I am hesitant to take any marks away. It is also the ONLY editing or proofing issue I came across, so I’m willing to let it slide.

If you are in the mood for a sexy romantic suspense, I would recommend Tempted by Mr. Wrong.

So I requested this book at Netgalley, got it, started reading and finished within 1,5 hours. So... it's rather short. But very engaging.

Tammy-Jo (TJ) is walking home after being humiliated by her almost ex-husband at their country club. She has no transport home, no money to call a cab and it rains. She is saved by her stepbrother Jason, whom she has not seen for 10 years! They had a teenage love affair and he left after her father threw him out - although TJ doesn't know that. When Jason drops TJ off at her house, she finds her husbands body.. he has been shot.

I was drawn into this story immediately. There is history between TJ and Jason, and they still carry a torch for each other. There is also the mystery of who killed her husband, who is behind the ponzi scheme Jason is investigating (yes, he is a cop, but nobody knows, not even his mom) and whether TJ is guilty of said scheme.

The story is quite good but very very short. I am a bit disappointed as this has the makings of a great book, but the story has been crammed together and everything is solved in - I think - 2 days max? I feel like it was a bullet train ride without any stops in between so fast it all went. Some things were left hanging (Dani/Cam??) and some things were unbelievably resolved quite fast. There was no normal police investigation after the murder, we know NOTHING about TJ's marriage.

I wish the author had taken this story and expanded it. We don't get any in depth information about the love affair of young TJ and Jason, what all went down, no explanation from either side and... most importantly .... no build up after 10 years of separation. It is as it used to be an extended story where huge chunks were removed and everything got stitched together.

So: I wanted more. But appreciated the roller coaster I got. Hoping the author will give Cam and Dani their story with a bit more depth.

*** I requested an ARC via Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary review. ***

New families make for tempestuous days—at least in this story of love denied. When Jason and Tammy-Jo (T.J.) are teenagers their parents marry, making them step-siblings. By the time they're seniors in high school, they've fallen in love, something that doesn't fly well with Tammy's father. When he intervenes and sends Jason packing, T.J. turns elsewhere to soothe her broken heart, following the path her father maps out for her by marrying a man destined for success.

Now it's ten years later, Jason is on an undercover assignment for the SEC and Tammy's caught in the middle once again. Her husband—who has been wretched to her—winds up murdered on their front lawn. There to investigate both T.J.'s husband and father, Jason has to keep his purpose a secret while reconnecting with his family—and that includes stirring up all the feelings he still holds for T.J.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, this book is one you won't want to miss. The case that builds against T.J.'s deceased husband puts everyone in danger, including Jason's team, his mother, step-father, and T.J. herself. Jason and T.J. navigate their feelings for each other with plenty of misunderstandings, matched only by the heat of undeniable attraction. As always, Biggar knows just how far to push her characters before bringing them to the realization they belong together. The interesting spin in this book is the familial connection and the complications it causes. Jason's relationship with his stepfather, Sam, is bitter and combative, but Sam has a loving, caring marriage with Jason's mother. A sticky situation that gets fully fleshed out at the end.

A breezy read with polished writing, dialogue that rings true, and characters who lodge in your heart, this is an entertaining read with a feel-good finish.

Tammy-Jo Hawthorne's husband Tim has just made her the laughing stick of their town by taking away her country club membership and having her car taken away and forcing her to walk home. Just as she thinks her night can't get worse her step-brother Jason McIntyre stops and picks her up and then she finds Tim.

Jason McIntyre is in town investigating a Ponzi scheme that Tim was involved in and needs to figure who his partners were. He must also discover what Tammy-Jo knows and whether she is also involved. But for Jason it is also personal as he and Tammy-Jo once had more than a brother-sister relationship and he knows his heart is in danger of falling once again.

Can Jason figure out who is behind everything while trying to keep Tammy-Jo safe from whomever got Tim?

This was a great murder-mystery with some twists involving love and deception.

Tammy-Jo had just been played by her ex-husband Tim and it made me mad that Tim had been buddies with her dad who let her get treated so poorly. She was concerned what her dad knew about Tim as he never seemed to shocked about everything that went down and I wondered how her dad was involved.

Jason was crossing his fingers that Tammy-Jo wasn't involved as he still had feelings for her. Yet he was also in a difficult position as he had to do his job properly and try not to get involved. I was definitely sad about what was going on with his mom.

The book had a few twists and turns that kept you wondering what was going to happen next!!

Steamy and Dreamy

This is the first story I’ve read by Jacquie Biggar. It won’t be the last. TEMPTED BY MR. WRONG hits all the right romance notes without succumbing to trite tropes.

The heroine is as down-on-her-luck as she could be. She’s in a pickle from the opening page, and things only get worse from there. But despite all the distress, I wouldn’t say she’s a damsel waiting to be saved. She has attitude, fortitude, spirit.

Doesn’t mean the hero isn’t an alpha male determined to save her, though. He very much is, even though he resists at first given their history.

I love it when chemistry overrides practicality, and that’s exactly what happens here. They both fight the attraction, and they both fail miserably. Those hot-and-heavy scenes more than satisfy any romance lover’s expectations.

The situation is unlikely to be one you’ll ever experience in real life (thank goodness for that!) but it’s not unbelievable. The story was a lovely blend of high-stakes, low points, and all the good stuff in between. The plot moved along at a brisk pace, the good characters are ones you’d like to have a drink with and the bad ones will make your hate-list.

I’ve had this author on my radar for some time now, but I never got around to reading her work before. I’m really glad I made the time to read this story. I highly recommend it. And now Jacquie Biggar’s other titles are moving up in my TBR pile.

Review forTempted by Mr. Wrong by Jacquie Biggar

This story is a mixture of real life heartfelt events with family and crazy events (that could actually happen but are still crazy).

The first half sets up lots of crazy events. This was my favorite time.
Long ago, TJ agreed to make her father happy when she married a fellow she didn’t love. Two months into the marriage, she moves to a separate bedroom due to his bad behaviors.
In the early chapters, we quickly learn to hate the fellow too. Then he’s dead. Yeah!
But that makes poor TJ look guilty…

Trying to keep track of what happens next will make your head spin.
There are undercover officers, budding romances, crazy driving, not so pleasant uninvited guests, and finally, the truth will come out.
I greatly enjoyed the first half. (5 stars).
The second half has a couple of odd scenes that just didn’t ring entirely true to me, so it only gets 4 stars

However, since it ended with a lovely HEA I’ll round up to a 5

So sweet and a little naughty. TJ seems to be a tough one but really she's just clueless and Jason has loved her since forever. While I found this story interesting, I kept wanting more (btw - I loved Jason's mom). While the book clearly makes it known that Jason and TJ are step siblings it doesn't really go into the whole taboo of it which I thought was rather odd. I felt that the ending was a bit rushed too but otherwise I think this had a great story line and good flow overall.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily providing this review.

The Good

This took about 3 hours to read, and I was hooked by the plot early on. I was surprised by the as the Step Brother Romance in the title had put me off, and I thought it was going to be a cheesy read. It wasn't.

Not that bad that Mr Wrong
3.5
The story mixes investigation and romance. It's well written, but I found it ultimately kept simple either way. In fact, looking at the intro and the first chapter featuring Tammy Jo (TJ), I would have expected more drama or bitterness from the characters of TJ and Jason, her stepbrother in law.
Their relationship is certainly complex, but it evolves when TJ's husband is murdered. TJ doesn't know who Jason has become, and she finds herself at the heart of a fraud investigation in which she herself is threatened with nothing left.

This was a great little read. You follow the story of Tammy-Jo and Jason, the storyline was genius as there were a lot of twists and turns which kept it really interesting. You can’t beat a good romance that was beautifully written and well executed, I just wish it was a bit longer as I was really enjoying it. I read this book as an ARC.

The mom was the most sympathetic character. Early dementia causes all sorts of issues, especially for those who deal with her daily. But when she is lucid... funny and adventurous. I can see where her son gets his energy. The story itself begins with the worst day possible for TJ, which then just spirals even further into a murder, the return of a step-brother, and a romance that is destined.

This was a fairly quick, short read. As such it meant that we were thrown into the storyline quickly and things rattled along at a very quick pace. It also meant that there wasn't really any time for any in-depth character description or development.
This is a second chance story. Jason and Tammy-Jo (T.J) were in love in their late teens at the end of high school. They both dreamt of a life together, but after T.J's father told Jason in no uncertain terms to stay away from his daughter, Jason left. Now ten years later T.J. finds her husband dead on their front lawn and her world crumbling. Jason is on hand to investigate. He claims to be a reporter but clearly, there is more going on than that.
This book could claim to be a mystery of some sort, but as it is so short, we don't really get anything solved and, for me at least, it seemed to be rather rushed at the end. T.J's Father suddenly comes around to Jason and no one actually seems to answer any questions.
While I did enjoy this book, for me it was a little too rushed and there could have been much more covered and explained as part of the story than actually was.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A romantic suspense story with a strong willed woman who needs the help of a man she thought she would never see again. T.J. and Jason are brought back together after ten years because Jason is on a case, and T.J. may be mixed up in the case he is investigating.

T.J.'s heart was broken when she was a teenager and she had to move on with her life, but her heart was not involved in the move. Now she is faced with seeing the man who broke her heart and tries to figure out if she did move on, or if her heart just stopped until she saw Jason again.

Jason was brought into this case to see if they could get anywhere since he is from this town and the main people under investigation may be related to him. He knows that he was never able to move on from his love for T.J. and seeing her again brings all of those feelings back to the surface for him.

I really enjoyed this story and wished it had gone on longer. I enjoy a story that draws me in and keeps me reading and forgetting about life going on around me and this book did just that. It is very easy to get into the story and lose track of time with this book.

Tammy always loved her step brother Jason ever since he showed up at their house with his mother. They were attracted to each other but her father won’t allow Jason to get closer to her and it drove him to move away from his mother and Tammy.
Tammy never knew she would be laughing stock at the country club. She married right person and hanged out with right crowd except this time her membership was taken away and rest of her dignity in front of people.
When she arrives at her home she never thought she would see her husband was drop dead on her drive way. And she really needs help.
Jason never thought he would be back home again. Now he is investigating his stepfather and his step sister. He is working to find out Ponzi scheme that might involve Tammy and his family. Now he needs to find out if his family is involved.

This was different type of step brother and sister story. They were really different and they really loved each other. It had romance and suspense. I would give 3 1/2 star.

TEMPTED BY MR. WRONG by Jacquie Biggar is both entertaining and suspenseful. The heroine, Tammy-Jo, and her step-brother, Jason, are drawn into a discouraged-by-others love relationship, beginning shortly after her father and his mother meet, fall in love, and marry. The story has family complications aplenty but also depicts different kinds of family love that are sweet and heart-warming. It is enriched by the love between Tammy-Jo and Jason with occasional moments of humorous or passionate interaction followed by the nerve-wracking suspense of choices important individuals in both their lives have made and the consequences thereof.

Not only are the primary characters in this story likable but so are most of the secondary characters. Ms. Biggar does a great job of creating emotional reactions to her characters, both good and bad. The suspense was potent enough I had to take short reading breaks to prepare myself for what would happen next. If you like romantic suspense, this book was written for you!

I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review of it.

Jason McIntyre is returning to Magnolia, S.C., but not for a family reunion but to investigate a SEC crime that might involve family members. His first love and stepsister, Tammy Jo Hawthorne, has just found her almost ex-husband, Timothy, murdered. Jason had found Tammy (T.J.) walking along the road in a rain storm, offered her a lift and was there when she found the body. Upon discovering Jason & T.J.’s affair, her father is the reason Jason left town. Is her father involved in the SEC investigation? Who murdered Timothy? Is T.J. involved in the investigation? Jason says no, but his team is not so sure. An intriguing romantic suspense story as Jason does his best to find out who is behind the murder while trying to keep T.J. safe. I have read many of Ms. Biggar’s books and I am always able to “escape” for a few hours into a great story with wonderful characters. (by paytonpuppy)

I was given an ARC copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

Let me start off by saying this is only a short story/quick read. However after saying that I found for such a short story it packed alot in. It kept me hooked and made me want to turn the pages to find out what happened next.
The characters also felt very real and it was almost as if you were in the room with them. Although I kind of knew what could be coming at the end, I still enjoyed the ending.
This book in my opinion was very well written and definitely want you to keep engaged.

Would recommend this to anyone, will definitely be reading more by this author in the future!

When TJ's low-life husband turns up dead, her step-brother and old flame is there to help pick up the pieces, but there's a lot more going on than TJ suspects.
This second time around romantic suspense story provides an sweet but naive and self-involved heroine, a hunky hero with a secret, a "rich folks" mess of a family and a ponzy scheme that keeps the plot barreling toward an unexpected but thrilling ending.
Tempted by Mr. Wrong is a great story with a sympathetic side story about dementia that's well worth a read.

Great story by Jacquie Biggar!
Jason McIntyre is back for revenge after being ran out of his home and town 10 years ago for falling in love with his step-sister. Now he's ready to face his nightmares, reconnect with his mom and help T. J pick up the pieces after her marriage failed and her husband is murdered and if that means falling for her again then he's okay with that too.

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Tempted was a short book that packs a lot of punch: murder, suspense, intrigue and romance that was interrupted by ten years of growing up. I like the way that the book handled complicated family situations and dementia in Jason's mother. There is one steamy sex scene and action in the finale. The ending wrapped up maybe too quickly and easily though.

An entertaining read that I read in one sitting.

It all starts with Tammy-Jo having possibly the worse day of her life that manages to get even worse still with a death. Being rescued by her teenage sweetheart who still holds the key to her heart only adds to her humiliation.

Can her former love Jason, save her and solve the case in time, along with winning her back??

Great enjoyable story

This story takes us to Magnolia, SC. Jason McIntyre
is sent to investigate a SEC crime. A family member
could be involved.
Tammy Jo Hawthorne, Jason’s stepsister & first love
discovers the body of her murdered husband. Now
he needs to keep her safe plus investigate a murder
and the SEC crime. Are these two things related?
An edge of the seat romantic suspense.
