The scene where desperately lonely Damon and desperately hungry little Penny met by the river, is actually my favourite scene in the The King.

"What's your name?"
"Penny. What's yours?"
"Quarter."

Readers of My Sweet Villaintine met Penelope Margaret Hartford and the contemptible Jonathan Scott in the first short (and dark) story titled Orchard. The reader finally meets Damon Scott in this installment as well as a seven year-old Penny who’s once again shoved in the middle of her father’s gambling debts.

▣ This prequel was a pleasant surprise! It was packed with just enough intrigue, tension, childhood woes, and drama to get me interested in reading the rest of this series!

The Prince tells the story of a young Penny and the wild boy she meets and dreams about saving her from the trailer park. Penny used to live with her mother and her revolving door of boyfriends. After finding her mother in a tub, dead from an apparent overdose, she begins to live with her father, a gambler who can’t seem to stop trying to beat the odds. One day she meets a young almost-man, Damon, who becomes her only friend. He warns her away from THE bad guy in town, his father, who wants to use and hurt her. See, Penny’s a mathematical genius, even at the tender age of 7, and her skills are sought-after. Damon is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her from his father, even sacrifice his own freedom.

I absolutely LOVED Damon. Loved this boy! I can only imagine how much my feelings will grow once I start reading the duet. He was so freaking smart, cute, protective, cunning, with a sweet and dry humor that made me smile. I can’t wait to see more of him. As for Penny, she was precocious, a genius, old before her time, mature beyond her years, brave and sad. I’m crossing my fingers that her life improves in the books to come.

This prequel novella served its purpose and made me hungry for more. More Damon, more mystery, more darkness, just more. I’m off to read The King.

Full Review:
Prepare yourself!  This book will leave you longing for more.  It’s such a fantastic tease!  I was already waiting on pins and needles for more Damon Scott, but his little gem only made that need ratchet up several levels!
The Prince gives us a view into Damon and Penny’s early relationship history.  I never would have imagined that beginning!  It’s  intriguing, entertaining, mysterious, and NOT to be missed!

Here’s what I loved:  Well duh!  How many times have I mentioned Damon’s name.  He’s the biggest draw, however don’t sleep on Penny.  I’m definitely intrigued by her character now that I know her a little better.  She’s strong, independent, and brilliant.  That characters definitely shine!
The storyline.  The mystery and suspense is a huge draw.  I cannot wait to see how this will turn out.
The writing – In a word, it’s brilliant.  Intricate and enthralling.  The tale is weaved perfectly.  I want to unravel all the secrets.

Overall, it’s another winner.  The Prince served its purpose of making crazy for the next book in the series.  I can’t wait to read The King!!

“To me you’ll always be a baby genius. It’s so much more interesting than a princess don’t you think? A pretty face has its appeal, but a sharp mind is a goddamn aphrodisiac.”

This one is very needed to understand more about the past of Damon and Penny.

It is really short only 6 chapters but it's only the beginning so you better understand them.

If you want to start this series/duet you need to read this first, but that won't be a problem because it is also included in "The King" the first one. I didn't know at the time so I have two of them. It was a freebie so no harm done and otherwise I wouldn't have made a deal about it because I enjoyed it!

Also to admit something every time I hear the name Damon I think about the tv show The Vampire Diaries.

Skye Warren is a masterful storyteller in bringing the seedy, tawdry and darkly erotic to life. She can spin a tale of avarice and power in the underworld like none other. Her ability to craft characters that are so flawed and yet so real constantly leaves me amazed, and when I read her stories, and I’m left afterwards in a haze. It always takes me a moment to realize that I wasn’t truly a part of her town of sin and greed, just a witness to her tale.

The Prince was a fantastic prequel to the soon to be released “The King”, giving us the history between Penny and Damon. From how they first met years before to the circumstances that brought them to current day, Skye Warren lays out a backstory between these two and shows how their lives and destiny were intertwined from the start.

If it’s anything like the rest of the “Endgame” series, “The King”, focused on Penny and Damon, is going to be an amazing book and start to a spin-off series. I’ve been waiting for this story for what feels like forever, and The Prince is a welcome tease. It’s a taste of what is to come, whetting my appetite for the main course, but it is also a lot more. The King could have picked up where the story left off in its predecessor, The Castle, and nothing would have been lost. But The Prince adds so much more to the story. It adds humanity to Damon, it adds intelligence and resourcefulness to Penny, and it makes these characters more three dimensional than they were before to understand their backgrounds and what has shaped them into the people they became.

Even if you haven’t read the Endgame series, this is a perfect time to jump in before The King is released. The Prince sets the stage for what is surely to become another amazing series that is murky and seedy, yet wonderfully Skye Warren.

Skye Warren at her best! I love this author and this prequel gives a very delicious taste of what's to come!
I cannot wait to read more about Damon Scott and Penny. He intrigued me as a character when I was reading the Endgame series so, imagine my delight when I realized that we will get three books with him!
I loved the premise and atmosphere of the book. It has raised the stakes for the next installment and I am sure Mrs. Warren will deliver!
I loved Penny. She has to be one of my favorite heroines from this author. I cannot wait to see where the story takes us next. I need King now!!!

This is the short novella of Damon and Penny. Their first encounter and how smart is the author building up the climax for the next book.

I think u also falls for Damon. I mean even his name is like an chocolate fantasy in my mouth. Again this is a great introduction to whats the story will become.

5 "I long for the impossible" Stars!!!

I was ridiculously excited to get inside this book and eat my way threw it. Because, let’s face it, Skye Warren is my every indulgence. The book was very short, but even in a short prequel, Skye still makes me FEEL EVERYTHING with her words. I long for the impossible.

Damon Scott traded himself for me. He’s the only reason I’m safe. And I’m the reason he’s not.

You’re probably like, “Wtf with the mermaid gif?” WELL, you should read the book to find out wtf :).

Damon. His black-lake eyes. When I first met Damon Scott, in the The Pawn, my brain and my body were begging for a Damon Scott book. He is just so evil and perfect. Damon is the not a good man, raised by his father, who is evil incarnate. But I was drawn to Damon right away, even though it wasn’t even his book. And Skye writes THE BEST anti-heroes.

Penny. I loved learning more about Penny in this book. We didn’t know much about her from The Castle, so I was glad to learn about her past and who she is. And I love her already! She is a “baby genius” in all things numbers, helping her father gamble and cheat. And I love a GIRL GENIUS! She meets Damon when they are young, but there is another story, Damon’s story, that we still don’t know. This prequel is written from Penny’s pov. And I am dying for Damon’s pov and to dive inside his evil brain!

à la Mode St. » fashion

I want to know when we resigned ourselves to this. When we noticed the iron bars around our lives and decided not to rail against them.

à la Mode St. » fashion

The ending of this prequel was perfect, and I am so excited to start The King and learn more about Damon, Penny, and Damon & Penny!

Tears trail down my cheeks, but I don’t know if I’m crying for myself or for Damon, who traded himself for me.

The Prince is the prequel to The King where we meet Penny at 5, struggling with the passing of her mother. She now lives with her father who is more interested in drinking & gambling, rather than caring for his daughter.

Penny was not giving the opportunity to be is a child. With a drunk, gambling addicted father and living in a trailer park on the wrong side of the tracks she had to grow up fast. Penny is a very smart girl and senses she has to suppress that when a very bad man shows interest in her.
When she meets Damon and tells him about his father interest in her, Damon tries to protect her and starts working with his dad and his illegal businesses.
Damon Scott’s name became a part of the city’s dark culture.

Years later when they meet again it is clear Penny does not want to have anything to do with Damon.
In the Prince we get to know about Penny & Damon interactions with each other when they were young. Their beginning is an amazing tease, leaving you wanting more.

Because Damon Scott traded himself for me.
He’s the only reason I’m safe.
And I’m the reason he’s not.

I downloaded this book before I read The King.

I didn't know this all is in that book.

And since I've read it, I might as well check it as being read. And if I gave The King pure 5 stars, this one's getting them, too.

I’ll be honest and say I’m not crazy about the short stories that work as extended prequels, and that’s exactly what The Prince offered. It was a quick prequel to The King, one that had me curious about events but never quite sucked me in.

I think what stopped me from enjoying this as much as I could have was the fact the story did not feel like it was being told by a child. I know she was supposed to come across as a child genius and that experiences have aged her, but it was difficult to connect when I didn’t quite believe.

Although it didn’t quite work for me it did leave me wanting to see what happens in The King.

I liked this novella. It had mostly a backstory effect before our main heroes were met. Also, it included a small part of the King novel.

Ohhhh god! The build up! The goosebumps! The feels! I can feel everything crumbling inside me already and this is just the prologue! 😭

Ever since I started the Endgame series, Damon Scott has always had me intrigued as to what his story was. There's just something about him that will lure you in, even though you're going along a different couple's story. His presence will hook you in and the bits and pieces of what you see from him will have you addicted, with tons of questions about him and his back story swirling in your head.

Then we met Penny in The Castle and Damon's reaction to her and that situation just amped up my interest to the next level. Needless to say, after reading that book, I wanted to get his story BADLY. And man, did Skye Warren deliver. It's just the beginning, I know. But with the way this was written? I have high freaking hopes and expectations.

They said reading The Prince isn't necessary, but if you're planning to read The King and want the full story and the boatload of emotions, make sure you begin with this. It's going to make diving into the first book that much sweeter and more intense. Trust me.

God, I had no idea, Damon. No. Idea.

Title: The Prince
Author: Skye Warren

5 amazing stars

What was it about Mason that made you need to know his story? if you've read any of [the books] The Pawn, The Knight or The Castle, then you've already gotten a taste of what he becomes. But the biggest question really is, how did he get there? The Prince was and is the beginning of Mason and Penny's story. It wets your appetite and before you know it, you're at the end of the short story, a little more knowing on just what happened to Mason and why he did what he ultimately did. Was this short story worth it? Absolutely! I can't wait for The King to find out what else happens to these two.

Damn I cannot wait for The King. What an introduction to Damon Scott. Told from the eyes of a seven year old we are told the story of when Damon and Penny first meet. A friendship and a trade. Now years later Damon is not the boy she once knew, he's intimidating, in the same business as his crook of a father. So why come back now? It seems her past saviour is now the one to fear the most...or is it?

I need The King!!!!

"There’s a storm inside me."

We are introduced to a young Damon and even younger Penny. We get a little glimpse of how special Penny is. This is a short prequel but gives you just the right amount of information.
I've been drawn to Damon since we met him in The Pawn. After reading The Castle I've been hungry for details pertaining to how Penny and Damon know each other. Do they have history and how did they meet? This book provides me with some of the information that I have been craving. Obviously everything cannot be revealed at once but now my mind is racing trying to figure out where their story will lead and how will it turn out.

This one will leave you begging for more. I'm so glad The King is released and I can devour every morsel.

I knew I wouldn't be able to hold back much longer. Having just read The Endgame Series, I had to know Damon better. The Prince is a spin-off from The Endgame Series, where you meet Damon and Penny. I told myself to wait, because I need to do laundry and stuff, I knew, I just knew, one taste from Damon and I wasn't going to stop. One page. One chapter. One novella, wasn't going to be enough.

The Prince gives you the beginning to Damon & Penny's story, only having a bite from The Castle, this one set the hook. I'm a fish outta water, I need The King in my hands right this minute. I'd like to go on, but I really need to get to reading.

I will say, for such a small bite, you'll be wanting more. Warren sculpted a couple of lost, unique set of characters that you'll want to read about. The seed of delicious twistedness to come, I can almost bet on it.

I enjoyed the prequel to The King; it ends on a cliff hanger and I'm diving right into the next book.

I read The Pawn first, and I initially disliked Damon. He was a great character in the book--just after reading The Pawn he didn't seem like a nice guy. He's the epitome of a morally gray character, which makes this series with him compelling. I'm glad the prequel went back to Damon and Penny's childhood because it humanized both of them. I'm crossing my fingers The King will live up to expectations.

Skye Warren promises another dark and delicious journey in this Masterpiece Duet.

The Prince takes us back to the beginning of Damon and Penny's story, an older, protective 'wild boy' and a frightened and desperate 'baby genius', both trying to avoid the world Jonathan Scott would rule. Until the day that Damon makes a choice and Penny understands his sacrifice.

Get ready for The King!
