The past... it will always catch up with you in the end.
A retired secret agent with a dark and troubled past, a scientist who only wants to save the world, and a charismatic politician who might just want to stop her...
Alex Mitchell is a man tormented by a dark and mysterious past. Until a couple of years ago he worked for the Company, a select group occupying the murky hinterland between the security services and the limits of international law. But now, as his quiet new life at a provincial university starts to unravel and his past catches up, he gets called on for one last job. For one thing will always remain true: you can never truly leave the Company.
Sunita Chakravarti never meant to spend the night with him. That kind of casual thing never held any appeal for her, and even if it did, this is most certainly not the time: her own life is turbulent, and he’s just split up with his girlfriend. The last thing Sunita wants is to be his rebound.
And then there's Bernard Bowler, a charismatic politician drawn to Sunita and her work. A man who always gets what he wants. He offers her liberation, but what does he demand in return? And what will he do if she refuses him?
Rebound: a novel of betrayal, kidnap and possible redemption. A steamy romance, a topical contemporary thriller, and the story of three people thrown together even as they’re torn apart.
Writing under other names, P.J. Adams is a successful novelist, with several novels published by major publishing houses and optioned for movies. As P.J. Adams, she writes in the genre closest to her heart, erotic romance - love stories with that added heat.
Working as Polly J Adams, she writes best-selling erotica, relationship stories crammed full of explicit sex. Among Polly's most popular stories are the Knee-tremblers and Indulgence series about a young woman's relationship with the wealthy owner of a New England sex club.
I did not expect this from the story. A book that has a lot going on. Thriller, action, romance, drama, kidnapping and hot scenes in the same story. Very much unique! It caught me from the first chapter. Two main characters that really have things to struggle with. They have to go through a lot of drama and twists and turns before they can get their HEA. I was really not disappointed by this story. It is very well written and I kept reading until the last page. Loved it!

“Sometimes good people have to do bad things,” This book took me some time to figure out how to put what I wanted to say into words for my review. At first it started out really slow, which is unusual for anyone that reads PJ Adams. Then it was skipping from past tense to present tense between both of the main characters Alex, and Sunita . It was slow until a quarter or so of the way in at least, but after getting through those periods of past present slowness you understand later that the information is quite crucial halfway in the book, carrying on to the end. You would be completely confused of the complexity in Alex, and Laura, as well as other important characters, and happenings. The Plot is terrific and catches you off guard and I must add The author wrote the ending with one he1l of a punch!
Some swoony worthy moments , a woman that isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in whether its with guns pointed or drinking coffee, and a hero that will go beyond his own laws to protect and help the one he loves.
'Sometimes, even though the timing isn’t right, you need to take your opportunities rather than risk losing them forever.'
“I love you,” he whispered , and knew then that with those words he risked hurting her far more brutally than anything physical.
I’ll start by saying PJ Adams is one of my favorite authors and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Her writing is nuanced, her story lines believable, her characters’ personality and challenges sympathetic. I’ve read all her published novels to date and happily volunteered to read and review the Rebound ARC.
Alex works in security at a university after leaving “The Company”, a secret government agency as a spy. He suffers from PTSD and now wants a “normal” life. Sunita is a talented scientist, responsible for state of the art research in virology. When a creepy venture capitalist visits the campus as a speaker, while secretly attempting to recruit Sunita to join his enterprise, the conflicting needs of the characters and their organizations become the landscape for this story.
One of the best features of this novel was its unpredictability. Aside from knowing there would be an HEA, because after all – this is a romance novel, I never knew what would happen next. I started and finished this novel in one day, it was so engrossing.
***I voluntarily read this ARC to give an honest review*** This is a very good storyline, but the bouncing back and forth from past to the present was giving me a headache and it made me put the book down on several occasions. Alex was a former CIA operative (he thought) that was dealing PTSD and now working at a university. He went home early one day and found his girlfriend with another man in their bed. He, luckily for them, decided to just leave rather than shoot them both. He had been earlier approached by one of the scientists, Dr, Sunita Chakravarti, to get out of the freezing weather and have coffee with her. Thinking she was hitting on him, he told her that he was in a relationship. Well, that relationship was now over and Sunita was the person who helped him deal with the breakup.Read how Sunita was duped by a charismatic profiteer, Bowler into viewing his facility and putting herself in jeopardy of being killed for being disloyal to the powers that be. Alex and his ex were put on her trail.
This is an action packed romantic spy thriller I liked the way Adams put so much detail into the characters - their nuances and quirks were so well detailed I felt like I was there and knew them personally - easy to connect with them, be it for love or to give them a swift kick The story does flow back and forth between present day and the past (approx a month)- At first, I admit I found this a bit hard to follow and I felt like I was slipping from the story- but truly by the third chapter it was easy to follow the flow and I had no problem becoming engrossed within the story The characters building was top notch - you could see them, relate to them and even feel their emotions I do wish we had more background on Alex - we get a lot about the program but I had more questions and sadly even though it felt like I was there I couldn't really ask the characters "I received an ARC at no cost ."
A quiet university, scholarly professors, a research facility, the only unruly thing a bunch of protesting students. Just ordinary people doing their ordinary jobs. And then you get a peek beneath the calm surface, where agents of agencies more secret than the official secret agencies are conducting their convoluted business. All of a sudden things get nasty. A sociopathic businessman/polititian turns to kidnapping to get his hands on top secret research for his own gain and in between all the players with different agendas a love story between two unlikely people developes. But until they get their HEA they have to jump through some pretty scary hoops. And even then you get the feeling it might not be absolutely certain that it stays that way. I volontarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
>>>>>I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book<<<<< Dr. Sunita Chakravarti is a scientist working on a special project at the School of Biological Science. Her project is so advance that it requires security to protect her from others obtaining access to her data. Data regarding synthesized leukocytes to target pathogens that can be used as biological warfare agents. Alex Mitchell is the Deputy Head of System Administration handling new database requirements and support. He also has a secret life before as a special agent in the military but became a sleeper with PTSD. It's a lot I would like to say about this book but I don't want to give any plot points away. It had a couple twists and turns of events that transpired and a scientist with a secret that was never revealed. The story felt rushed and incomplete with unanswered details yet enjoyable.
PJ Adams has wrote a unique book full with action, drama, romance and suspense. The 2 main characters, Alex and Sunita are unique unto themselves. Sunita is the wicked smart, patient and calm leading lady. Alex is flawed and not the domineering alpha. you would suspect. He might even be struggling with PTSD from a rather bad childhood experience. Ms. Adams weaves great main characters with a storyline that will keep you turning one page after another. The story and characters are written so well you get the feeling of being right there with them. It is written with dual POV. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance with some chilling suspense and action. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
An agent that is trying to recover from his last mission working at a university trying to collect his thoughts and trying to get his life back into a normal routine after leaving the agency. He is still living with his partner from the last mission but things are getting a little rocky between them and he meets a scientist on campus who appears to be interested in him. But when she appears to have been kidnapped from campus he finds out that the agency has been keeping an eye on her and he is drawn into the fray again to find out if she was kidnapped or was actually going over to the other side. Is termination of the target the only way out?
A very intense and gripping book with some twists and turns; An excellent read.
Alex reminds me of Jason Bourne, with PTSD. Deep down he's a good guy, he's just had to do bad things for good reasons. Now he's trying to fit in with everyday Joes, have a real life. Sunita is a genius at biology and virology, at knowing what goes on behind the scenes of her own life, not so much. We get a lot of background for these characters is flash backs and remembrances without having to read their whole past. Making this relatively short book feel much fuller. I like the way it's written in vignettes and dual POV I was entranced from the beginning.
Secrets and twists abound what will happen on the rebound?
After been damage by the violence in his past Alex Mitchell had had seek a quiet life to heal. But seemed he would never be free of his past. Dr. Sunita Chakravari intrigued and attracted him. Developing feelings for her had not been what he had been looking for but, what she offered and meant for him, was what he needed. When forced out of his retire, Alex Mitchell was immersed in another dangerous mission. Would his loyalties be questioned? Suspense, mystery, conspiracy, intrigue, violence, romance and passion. Liked how Bernard Bowler and Laura’s characters were crafted and the interesting plot development that kept me reading caught in the story.
I truly enjoyed this book by PJ Adams. There were so many twists and turns throughout the story that I had to read it in one night. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another curve was thrown. The characters were real and unpredictable. Alex was such an alpha male hero and Sunnita was a strong heroine with just the right hint of vulnerability and unfortunately a little too much curiosity. And Laura's character was a real surprise. Great action and intrigue to keep you involved till the end. One click and get in on the adventure. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
intrigue suspense excitement and a page turner you have one man a politician and he always get what he wants and her wants Sunita Chakravarti he is interested in her work and in her and he will help her but what does she have to do for that help is he a dirty politician or a good one who knows lol and then there is a man that is in the University College has a dark past and did jobs for the company dun dun dun this is a good hot read you keep you up all night yeah different then the rest of the books out there and it is worth the price I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. PJ Adams has given us another great read with Rebound. This is a romantic suspense thriller that has everything you need to keep turning page until you reach the end. Alex is a former spy that is called in for one last job. Sunita is a research scientist at the Univeristy where Alex currently works. They strike up a friendship on the heal of Alex's breakup but she does not want to the be the rebound relationship for Alex so they keep it just friends. Now throw in the politician that doesn't play by the rules who wants Sunita's research for his own personal gain. And here is where the twists and turns of the story keep us on the edge of our seats!
This was a satisfying suspense novel. At first, the time jumps were a bit irritating, but S the story progressed, I saw the point. I liked the way that the author set it up that there were so many wild cards, and you had to read to see which character was holding the important secrets, or which was the most villainous.
I enjoyed this novel from Ms. Adams, which was my first.

I absolutely loved this book. I love that Alex isn't perfect, and he is a little screwed up and flawed. I love that the leading lady is brilliant (yeah, she is smarter than Alex and everyone else), and she isn't a blonde bimbo, and she isn't immediately in love with Alex. I love that the plot had intrigue and dynamics and depth. basically, I loved this book. A+ writing.
When Sunita is working on some secret formulas the n f the company. She meets Alex t he university and they develop a friendship with her not knowing his real job. They start to get together more when he catches his girlfriend in the act with someone an then this starts things with the trio since Laura is with the company also. A kidnapping a love story an more

I loved is story. This romance is off the charts with suspense, mystery and drama. For a guy with PTSD he really knows his stuff. This is not the usual genera for me, but I have very quickly become a fan.
Rebound by PJ Adams is a very well written book. It took me a while to develop a relationship with the characters, but once I did, I really enjoyed their story. The plot line is well thought out and flows quite well and kept me reading until the very end.
Wow, such drama, suspense and intrigue. The story is fast-paced and grips you from beginning to end. The characters are amazing and their chemistry steamy. I really liked it!
