Marine Bodyguards #2

Il Ladro (Marine Bodyguards Vol. 2)

Rate this book

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Story 4 Stars
Narration 4 Stars

We met Ranger very briefly in book 1 but since then life has not been kind to him. Patricia really pulled on my heartstrings at the start of this book. There is something very wrong about seeing Veterans homeless and unsure of where their next meal is coming from. Ranger is in just that position, but you know, although he worries he doesn’t lose heart and his kindness to others who he sees as worse off is profound.

A meal at a shelter lands him in the path of his old buddy Taz who subsequently finds him some work. The job is out of this world – a roof over his head, meals provided and a decent wage – Taz can’t believe his luck! The fact that the house is a little odd, the food is awful and his charge doesn’t seem to have any need of a bodyguard is neither here nor there.

Landry Metzel is a thief, we know this because that’s the title of the book however he is no ordinary thief and his reasons are enough to earn him a pass in my book. There is a history to what he is doing that is very personal to his family and also to his old butler who is a real hoot and worthy of a mention as a great secondary character. There is also a certain morality to what he does and the whole storyline really drags you in.

Together they work well even if Ranger is very suspicious. As Landry’s secrets are revealed the plot thickens with murder and mystery and Ranger slowly finds out the truth but more importantly he also comes to understand why. As a couple they are hot together and have a lot of fun but if they want to see tomorrow they must work out who wants them dead.

Narration Review:

Michael Pauley is a new narrator to me but certainly one I will listen to again. He hit the voices for each character perfectly and was very easy to listen to.

I like the setup of the story. Really interesting & fun & admirable in a way.
I just find the execution lacking. Both MC felt like caricature. The virgin, rich, innocent, oh so shy guy and the alpha growly man who doesn't stop growling..
And there is nothing sexy or practical about a rolled-up condom held between teeth. The sex scene were so awkward, textbook and not genuine at all. No prep, barely any foreplay for a first time doesn't feel right at all. The hero worship after it was disgusting.
All the pet name.. It was weird and comming out of nowhere..

This was oddly satisfying and unputdownable but written in a very corny way. The story line had so many unrealistic plot points it was almost laughable. This is definitely NOT well written but it oddly kept me reading. Not enough to read ANY of the other books in this series though.

I absolutely love this book! Part Indiana Jones, part Tomb Raider, part Monument Men, this is a story of intrique and vigilante justice. Add in sweet romance and sizzling sex scenes, and Patricia Logan has written aperfect story.

This is the story of Ranger. A former marine, awarded the silver star for gallantry, he is out of work and nearly homeless when Logan introduces him.

Landry is the incredibly wealthy man who hires Ranger to be his bodyguard. Landry comes across as a male Lara Croft - with a few more secrets.

The two men are from very different worlds. For very different reasons, neither man trusts easily and it takes some time and bullets before the men start to work together as true partners.

With a hot LAPD detective after them and a cranky butler looking out for them, the story hurtles from one adventure to another.

I hadn’t realised this was a sequel to The Superstar until the characters from the first book were introduced. This is a darker, more sombre story. Logan has spent considerable time and effort researching the world of antiquities and the fate of antiquities in Nazi occupied Europe. Her research pays off and allows The Thief to be a much more complex, multi-layered book than The Superstar was.

The Thief will appeal to a different audience than The Superstar and is very much a stand-alone novel.

I love this and can’t recommend it enough!

This was my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last. The writing was very descriptive and the dialogue was great.

This story was about Ranger a bodyguard/military man. Loved him, he was down on his luck and struggling to make it day to day but gave his last dollar to a homeless woman, right then I knew this character could do no wrong. Finally a friend found him a job and I loved how he came into that job taking control. He fell for a art thief, Landry who he was supposed to protect. I thought Landry was a spoiled rich guy, but the sparks flew between the two, and their romance was entertaining.

I found myself laughing out loud at the bedroom scene! Belzer, the servant was very entertaining and added to the story.

This was an excellent suspense story that kept me interested through out. I really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it.

Some hot and heavy romance with your art thefts anyone? Yes Please!!

When I saw the post about this book being available for review, I didn't even need to read the synopsis, I saw the author's name and requested it. I read the first book in the Bodyguard series, The Superstar, and I really enjoyed it!!! The Thief, is Patricia Logan's second book in the Bodyguard series, but it can be read as a stand-alone,

Our Hero's!!! And, Yes they are both Heros, Landry and Ranger deliver this instalment of the Bodyguard series with humour and vulnerability that will tug at your heart strings and have you laughing out loud the next line.

Landry is a very unassuming hero. He is on a quest, with the best of intentions and you will be moved with the motivation behind it all. I was extremely impressed with the knowledge Patricia Logan shares about the art world and some other historical events that she describes in amazing and incredible detail. My jaw dropped quite a few times!!

Ranger, the Bodyguard, a former Navy Seal is sexy, rough, vulnerable at times, and that makes him the perfect companion, partner, lover for Landry. He doesn't take any crap but you also know that when it gets right down to it, he WILL have your back and you most definitely want someone like Ranger on your side!!! He pulls Landry out of his shell, and gives him confidence to go after what he wants, and what Laundry wants is Ranger. The chemistry was intense!!! There were some very tender moments and they made me smile through tears. And Belzer, the Butler, an added bonus and perfect companion to this story. He was feisty and funny.

I really enjoyed this journey with Laundry and Ranger!!!!

When I was with child I once read that every time a child is born a shooting star occurs, and every time a mother sheds tears for a lost child a star is born. Reading this newest book from Patricia Logan made me want to look up into the night sky as I felt grief about one of the darkest measure of time in human history. I look up and my heart breaks for all the tears that surely were shed during the Holocaust to make such a beautiful galaxy. This book has all the required items I expect in a romance...Love, Humor, Angst and really sexy hot moments between two wonderful characters. Yet it also had Mystery, suspense and Sadness. At times the sadness out weighed the happy-go-lucky romance but it was handled like a masterpiece by this author. The balance was superb. Ranger Corrigan is a Vet and trying to come to terms with his incapability to survive in the real world after serving his country honorably. He is smart, witty and proud. A bit to prideful to ask for help when he should. Landry Metzel is young , idealistic and a true romantic for sure. He takes family responsibility to the max; and when he loves he loves beautifully. If the world population had an ounce of Landry in them ...it would be a much better world and the dark will be illuminated. The respect shown by this author for such a historical genocide and cultural rape during WWII was appreciated. Thankfully the author was able to pull you back and embrace the reader with loads of fun banter between Ranger and Landry and even more explicit exploration of their unabashed-between-the-sheets-merrymaking-explosive- chemistry. May humanity never experience such shame again may the future always enjoy all the great works of art in its glory. Most of all may love always win.

The Thief is the second book in the Bodyguard series by Patricia Logan. This book really touched me for many reasons. One I am a huge reader of WWII history. So that tie in really had me interested. The way that subject is touched on really made me respect the author a lot. For me this is a must read book. This is my first time reading the Bodyguard series and I would like to go back and read the first one now. I hope there are many more in the future too. Also this book can be read as a standalone. I fell in love with this story and I have not read the others.
Ranger he is a vet. He is very poor, like almost homeless poor. He lives hand to mouth. Gets jobs when he can. When a friend hooks him up as a body guard to a rich man he is thrilled. He gets a job, he gets a room, and he gets to eat. I liked how Ranger was down to Earth. He is kind and willing to help out someone else even though he is in desperate need of help himself. Seeing his kindness and love for others really was beautiful.
Landry he doesn’t want a body guard. And the more you get to know him the more you can see why he wouldn’t want one. Considering his side job and all. Landry is brave, very loyal, and understand his duties. I liked his spirit. He comes off as stiff and stuffy at first but the more you get to know him the more you see how truly selfless he really is.
Over all I really super enjoyed this book. I loved the writing style Ms. Logan has. She kept me reading and wanting more. When you want a MM romance with heart and soul this is the book to pick up. I am so very glad I did.

Sometimes things are not what they seem, Ranger Corrigan finds out when he is hired to be the body guard of a very mysterious man. Glad to have a job he is still unsure why a man that has the wealth that Landry has works as a meager insurance appraiser.
Landry doesn’t want a bodyguard but his family friend/ butler insists he needs someone to protect him from his enemies. Why would an insurance appraiser have enemies? And what would Landry have to do with all the art thieving that is happening some even resulting in deaths?

Thief is book two of the Marine Body Guard series but, stands alone just perfectly. I will also say it’s one of my favorite Patricia Logan books and a good place to start if you are considering reading one. I loved it. Landry isn’t your common rich man. He has many secrets and they unfold through a very unique, funny and sexy story. I don’t know what was funnier, the first meeting between Landry and Ranger over dinner with the shellfish or the first sex scene after Landry and Ranger when The butler shows up and Landry panics trying to hide Ranger… A very big bodyguard. I also like the touch of realism and research this book must have required. I applaud Patricia for taking the time and writing this story.

There is murder, intrigue and lots of twists and turns. So if you like a good mystery/suspense, a touch of humor, hot bodyguards, sexy, nerdy rich men (also men in suits)art and a some hot yet sensual man-sex this is a must read!

I have been a reader of Ms. Logan for quite a while now and have loved everything so far with this book being no exception. This is the second in the Bodyguard series and I just adored the two mc's. I was not happy that the book had to end.

Ranger is just about the end of his funds and unsure of what he is going to do next when a chance meeting with an old friend helps to secure him a job guarding a man that is definitely not all that he seems. Landry claims to be an insurance appraiser but when the two meet Ranger knows hes hiding something not to mention he finds the secretive man sexy as hell. Landry didnt want a bodyguard but when his faithful servant hires Ranger anyway, he is dismayed to find out how hot he is and doubly afraid that he will find out all his secrets.

I really just enjoyed how the two interacted. Their chemistry was off the charts. When Ranger looked at the french cuisine that first night and damn near gagged, I fell out laughing. Landry was just too sweet and I loved his quirkiness. The history dealing with each painting and figuring out how it all played together had me itching to solve it myself. Please do yourself a favor and pick this series up. The sex is hot, the storyline is awesome, you will go aww alot of times and you might just find yourself snorting because your laughing so hard.

Four and a half stars!
I was apprehensive when I opened this book because I wasn’t a fan of the first in the series. I’m so very glad that I chose to read it. This book is beautiful! The history of the art and the artists and paintings mentioned makes my inner art nerd so happy. I know not all of the paintings mentioned were real, but some were. As someone that knows a tiny bit more than the average person about art, I absolutely loved being able to tell when facts are well researched. The story kept my interest from start to finish. Watching the relationship between Ranger and Landry build was perfect. They fit together so well. Ranger’s struggle with his feelings and Landry’s struggles with his double life. You don’t have to have read the first book to enjoy this one. Though if you’ve read it, and some of Patricia’s previous work, you’ll see some familiar faces. Now I’m super excited for the third book in the series.

I think, there is no way Patricia Logan's books can't top the last, every time I pick one up and every time I get a happy surprise. This one was packed in rich history, complex and lovable characters and the story line was so well thought and compelling, I couldn't stop turning the pages. I devoured this book and wanted more! Patricia painted the pictures for me to see as I read, like the art in the books, she is priceless.

Ranger and Landry, they are two amazing characters who play so well off of each other, that you knew from the start when they got together, the pages were going to catch fire and they sure did! LOVED this book!!

I can't wait until the next so I can be happily surprised again!

Loved it!

This is a great series. I really enjoyed the chemistry and dynamic of Ranger and Landry's relationship. Plus, the storyline was very close to my heart, my husband's grandparents were Holocaust survivors and like many of their friends who perished, lost treasures they never got back. There isn't anything Patricia writes that I haven't loved. Great characters, hot sex, humor and laughter! Could not ask for anything more!

🎧 A narrated story by Micheal Pauley.  A great story with art thief and murder involved with romance.  The narrator has done a brilliant job with the different voices and characters. Written by Ms Logan the characters are gorgeous.
Ranger was an ex miltary down on his luck struggling to get regular work. A bodyguard job comes his way though a contact the client is doesn't want him there.
Landry doesn't want a bodyguard but he feels he has too, to keep his elderly friend happy. It makes it hard for him since Ranger is gorgeous and is attracted to him.

When elements of history, love, good storytelling and honorable

Characters come together in realistic situations challenged by crime and detective work, marvelous magic makes a thief a hero and a cop a thief. Just like an artist paints on canvas, the artist writer strokes the keys to form symbols that can make the imagination swell in colors and textures that captivate the readier or viewer. Good art makes good people. Good readers make good art. History documents good art and good writing. This is an exceptionally good book with all the major ingredients of love.

Se non fosse per alcuni dettagli nella parte finale che non mi hanno convinta molto, avrei dato 5 stelle.
