Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.
He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).
And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.
With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.
Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

I Jinxed myself after I wrote my last review. I basically stated that since I love the series as a whole, I might as well give each book 5 stars. Some books might have been a little better than others but overall when you add them all together, 5 stars is what you get. Then I get to this book. This seemed more like a filler book to me. Nothing much happened. It was all preparation for the final showdown with the Jukal, but that won't happen for at least another couple of books. Dave and the stone raiders still need to deal with the coming threat to Emerilia first and there didn't seem to be much preparation for that. They basically went through a portal to gain experience in this story and thats pretty much it. There wasn't any massive quest or mission. No great reward, just slogging for experience. Now I could get behind that in earlier books, but even with all the fighting done in this book, I think Dave only gained a couple of levels. At this point, how helpful is that going to be? I do like it when he creates things on the forge, a lot more than when he does things with magical coding. When he uses the forge, I get an understanding of how much work and effort he is putting into each project and I have more of an appreciation for the final product. Everything he does with magical coding seems so easy to him. He also has automated the processes so that he doesn't really have to do anything anymore. I hope it picks back up again in the next book.
Let's get this party started Dave. This whole time i thought i would be the character Dave if i were in Emerilia...then enter Jung Lee.....a man....with incredible power, multiple personalities competing for control inside him......a flash of death in his eye.......then i realized.....i am home
The series started out great but slowly going down hill and now its jumped off a freaking cliff. It's turning into a Bleach Anime with villain battles going on forever. Like some authors they start tossing kids in the mix and everyone is having kids. To me, that is a HUGE like jump the shark in the story line. Then that will just lead to the antagonists kid napping kids or something else and the MC goes nuts or something predictable. The characters are all scattered brain in this and not really prioritizing major threats to the world, they wanted to be the number 1 raiding guild and they got it, they wanted to corner the market and they did. Now they are sitting back doing minor missions while these major powers start to slaughter hundreds of thousands of people for power.
Waaaaaay to many side things going on and NOT enough focus on Dave, you know, the main character back in book 1. I am on the cusp of returning this to Audible, that is how upset I am will this one.
Ono, the one way teleport pad. How is it pronounced? Is it pronounced oh-no, or on-oh? Also, since the introduction of the Aleph, one question has haunts me that took three books to reveal. How are their cylinder cities oriented? Are they horizontal, or vertical. Do they have the city along the curve, or at the flat bits on the ends? Well dear reader, the answer has been revealed. The cylinder cities are horizontal, and built like a smaller and longer version of the HALO ring-worlds, but underground. Also, because there’s no frame of reference for rotation within the ring, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that you’re rotating while standing inside of it. Something to think about, that.
Looking forward to book eight. We are getting closer to the war for the planet and the freedom of her children. Seven books so far, and I see them as nothing more than building blocks for the grand stage about to be unleashed. This is truly an epic story in the making. Each book gets better and better. Still some errors, but they can not take away from the story itself. I highly recommend this entire series.
Before every storm there is a calmness. This book is that calmness. There is a war coming that can potentially destroy the entire world. This is the last chance to build alliances against this war. I always love books that are hard to out down. This series is that way and I look forward to reading more and more.
This series started with a good premise. The first book few books were good with what looked like a good foreshadowing for the plot. Decent character introductions who were not just introduced for the sake of stitching together the plot. The levelling system annoyed me a little bit. The author had a levelling system for the characters then goes to completely ignore it giving a passable reason to do so. Then this book went completely off the rails!
The characters were completely two dimensional with doing actions only for the sake of the plot development. A pregnant character after running out of what might be a harmful situation and seems scared for their health talks about how there are people still powerful than they and the group should be careful and need to still improve their power. ... What? Not even a little care for the baby that they care for so much?
The story is pulled in at least 5 different directions at once and seems like the author is just rambling. The priorities of the character seem very unrealistic and the book had very little impact on the plot development. Basically, the entire book could have been about three chapters if written properly.
Ahh... It seemed like a good series but this is not for me anymore.
The adventure continues... just a fantastic story.
Spoler alert:
Things are coming to a head. The dwarven tournament has ended and weapons of power were released at multiple places. Allies and agreements have been formed on Emerilia and the hidden human colonies are leveling up from info that Dave supplied, no strings attached. They may even reciprocate and provide some info that team Emerilia needs.... it could happen!
Nevertheless sinister forces are still at work and 2 of the three already released powerful nemeses are still at large and preparing to do their masters (dark and light's) bidding. Of course taking down just the one evil dragon Akatol had a high cost in lives. Also, dark has a secret source of power that will need to be overcome lest his twisted plans to take over the world come to fruition. Fortunately Dave, the dwarves, team Zero, the Stone Raiders, Unity and their allies are stepping up to turn the tables on the pantheon and the Jukal. Lets face it, they need all the help they can get to overcome all the advesaries that wish them ill.
Yes I will have to agree with some reviews here, this one kind of dropped the quality the predecesors braught with them. To many plot threads and little advance in many of them, I guet that they are setting for a future big event, but focus so strongly on their advance to just drop it out f the hole sequences feels a little out of place, besides I don't like where expectations are created to not be fullfilled. The hole point of the raid was lost, it is indeed good that they gained some exp, but for so many of them for that to be of important significance they would need a hole lot of exp that the raid simple didn't have. Besides they never do cleared the damn portal wich was the point. And at this point we know the characteres are their intention enough not to need a constant reminded of whats motivating them, we already know about it.
I liked the series, but with each book I'm noticing more issues, grammar being one. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the grammar police but with dyslexia, poor grammar doesn't help me. I used to read every page of these book, but after book 5 I'm skipping large chunks that bore me and adds nothing to the story and then there's aspects where Dave suddenly AI level intelligent and random things going on with the plot to tie it together. Only reading to finish it at this point.
the series continues to grow. this book was an enjoyable read, it was an intermission book following the major action taking place in the previous book. the new character introduced should prove to be another great addition to the cast developed so far. the author handles the large cast of characters very well, each has their moment to shine. as the author continues to pump out each book quickly i am looking forward to see the developments going forward.
This one started a little slower than normal, as a consequence of all the world building and developing a larger group of core characters. But don't worry, it picks up just fine. I'm constantly amazed that the characters can still be challenged and stay awesome given the power building they're undergoing. Managing that is good writing.
Things are hearing up for Dave and friends as the impending system event draws ever closer. It's fun to see Dave plan and scheme to protect those he loves and cares about. This was another great entry in the series, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Some may complain that there was no plot except a continuation of previous books, I don't care. I still loved it. Dave is awesome and things are really coming to a head. Love the genre and please keep it coming.
I think you might be my favorite author right now, you've kept the plot and characters progressing at a steady pace with each volume and the story has stayed engaging throughout. All in all a tasty meal.
I always look forward to more Emerilia and this investment definitely did not fail to deliver. The characters, the inventions, the world of Emerilia itself - it pulls me in every time!
Has been found that even the stone raiders should fear... however being stone raiders they don't care! The time of myth and legends is nearing and the rush to prepare is on,
A nice continuation of the series. Definitely moving forward in an interesting way. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next. The pace of this book seemed quite a bit slower than the previous books, but still a good read.
A good book like the rest, but as usual, suffers from poor proofreading. I can't ve the only person getting irritated by the lack of pronouns and prepositions. Again, if you can ignore all that, you will provably enjoy the story very much.
Exciting series where each book builds from the previous one with a great cast of characters and a world brought alive through the actions, adventures and emotions found within it's pages. Definitely a series worth reading.
While there were some big set-piece battles, it seems that this installment of the series focused on getting ready for the big battles that are to come on Emerilia and beyond.
Good story and characters, dreadful writing. To the author: enough with "antics," learn to show, not tell. Or just shut up and let more talented people do the writing. Too expensive even if free.
Either they can take out their opponent no problem, or they are facing something that can take them out no problem. There is no more balance or nuance.
The last few stories went from a 300 page book to a short story with something just to let you experience what was great in the 1st 4 books just glad I have a Kindle account.....
The story continues but I felt an idleness in this book where not much happens with the main characters it was mostly focused on side characters development. The end got excited and I loved it.
