Outpost 37 - Fallout: A Joe Dunn Short: Part 1

Rate this book
A lot changes when the world ends... Joe Dunn used to sell cars. Now he's just trying to stay alive. When Joe leaves the safety of the outpost to hunt for food, things quickly go south. Between his sprained ankle, some dangerous predators roaming about, and a few miles of wilderness to walk through, Joe's in a bit of trouble. But if he doesn't make it back to the outpost before dark, he may not make it back at all.

Outpost 37: Fallout is a short story, and the beginning of a novella series that follows Joe Dunn as he tries to survive after the world ends.

˃˃˃ Note from the author This is a clean story (no sex or swearing) with a unique twist on the 'zombie apocalypse' concept. So if you're thinking to yourself "Oh man...not another dystopian/zombie apocalypse story", this may not be for you.

Who is Joe Dunn?

The Short begins with Joe Dunn and a boy spotting a tiger . The boy is snatched by the tiger as Joe gives chase. More trouble follows in the form of "the Infected", but we don't know who or what they are. Joe knows they only come out at night. Joe does a lot of day dreaming and we realize that he was a used car salesman before the fallout. But we don't know who Joe Dunn is. What does he look like. Is he an outdoorsman. How did he get to Outpost 37. Was he exposed to fallout. Is he isolated from friends and family . How old is he. I gave the story 3 stars because of this. To be fair, the sample was too short for me really get into it. If I got to know Joe, perhaps I would like him and want to continue reading.

Outpost 37 Part 1 by Ron Schrader is a short story, or more like a first episode, that takes place after a nuclear explosion in Europe that affects the whole world. Joe is now faced with surviving in a world that has new dangers. Can he survive outside of the Outpost. He ventured out, but will he make it back alive?

This was a well written short story or first episode. It takes the reader into the future and gets one thinking about the outcome for mankind in the event of a nuclear explosion.

If you enjoy apocalyptic stories, you will enjoy this.

Interesting story

I enjoyed it and loved the intrigue and suspense of the story. It was short enough that I could read it while my wife was having her hair done.
