In his latest live program which was recorded in one of the biggest venues in Germany (Westfalenhalle in Dortmund), animal psychologist and dog training expert Martin Rütter puts dog owners in detention ("Nachsitzen"): As he maintains that the problem is never the dog, but always the owner, he gives some extra lessons to teach human leash-holders new skills. As usual, he tells tons of funny anecdotes about his clients as well as his own dogs and asks the audience about their own experiences. While clearly bringing across his message that training a dog is all about communication and that methods based on dominance are complete nonsene, Rütter's strength is his ability to give advice by telling memorable, entertaining stories and to express what it is that we love about dogs without any kitsch.

The idea to talk about dog-related topics in alphabetical order does not really make sense though, as the consequence is that some topics are clearly only included to mention every letter ("X as in Xoloitzcuintle"? Really? How many people outside Mexico do actually own one of these?), so that is a little annoying. "Nachsitzen" is also the weakest of Rütter's programs (I saw three of them live too, including this one), but it is still really funny and worthwhile - not only for dog owners. Rütter's heart is also open for those people who for some reason decided to have a cat: "Are cat owners here tonight? I suppose you're here to finally understand how it must feel to be truly loved by your pet!" :-)
