North Bay Pursuits #5

Tempting Phoenix

Rate this book
FBI Special Agent Shane Lombardi is at a crossroads. His life has been on hold since falling in love with the one man he can never have. But it’s time to plan for a future for himself—a future that does not include the most important person in his life: his partner.

A year ago, FBI Special Agent Brandon Jager almost died. One of his last memories from that night was his partner’s declaration of love—a declaration that should have had him running. Instead, he clung to it as he fought to survive. Now fully recovered, he pretends not to remember anything about that day. It’s better than admitting he knows what Shane feels for him…or what he feels for Shane.

Before Shane walks away forever, there’s one last case to be solved. Kasey Crawley, a rent boy under their protection, has gone missing. They’ll stop at nothing to get Kasey back—even if that means going under cover as a couple. With a little help from the infamous hacker known as The Hound, Brandon and Shane must find a way to save Kasey, while also finding out what the future has in store for them.

Tempting Phoenix, the fifth book in Kenzi Bond’s North Bay Pursuits series, is a stand-alone novel, but if the characters’ backstories pique your curiosity (and they will!), don’t miss Finding Steele, Catching Butterflies, Hunting Hawk or Discovering Dragons.

Kenzi Bond lives in Queensland, Australia, which she considers just about the best place to be. When she’s not in the real world (or writing), she is engrossed in a book. A voracious reader, Kenzi reads one book a day on average. She finds inspiration all around her and loves to people-watch.

Kenzi describes herself as hopeless romantic, believing in love at first sight and living happily ever after, but this isn’t the stuff of fantasy—she has loved her husband madly and deeply since she met him in 1987. Her writing is supervised by Simba, an Italian Greyhound who thinks he’s a cat.

Kenzi’s fictional characters are like family, and she ensures that they also find their one true love in the end. They live and love wholeheartedly, much as Kenzi herself does.
You can contact Kenzi via her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kenzibond.author/ or via her Amazon author page at amazon.com/author/kenzibond. She would love to hear from you!

This is the fifth book in the North Bay Pursuits Series. The plot was sensational and it was steady throughout the book. The writing is amazing and the pace is good throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were well developed and though out. Brandon Jager and Shane Lombardi are FBI Special Agents and partners and they are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, mystery, lost and forgotten children, police, FBI, a resort, an auction and so much more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “Zane laughed. “Now imagine everything you were just thinking about and add the best sex you could imagine. Because I hate to tell you, buddy, but you are definitely, positively, absolutely gay for Shane. … And that’s not a bad thing. Stop thinking about being gay or not gay. Stop trying to analyze and just feel what your gut is telling you. This isn’t right or wrong. It just is. Now is there anything specific you want to ask me?”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. This series is incredible and each book itself is fantastic. Each book is a different story not mirror image of each other with different plots and characters. I can’t wait for the next book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

I am not great at reviews, but here goes.
OMG, I loved this book. While friends to lovers is not everyone's cup of tea (everyone is entitled to their own opinion), Shane and Brandon belonged together. They are so HOT

The undercover op to find and rescue Kasey, and by default all of the other kids being held, was heart wrenching. I wasn't ready for the story to end, not because there was anything left outstanding, but it just sucked me in and I wasn't ready to let go.

What a fantastic story! Thrilling, full of suspense and action, but also a slow, thoughtful love story.

I love straight-to-bi kind of stories and I also love thrillers, so this story completely fits my needs. The storyline is gripping and well crafted, the characters full-fledged and enticing, and the writing perfect.

I guess I now will go and get the first four books of this series. And probably everything else written for this author.

I really liked this story. I love agent type stories especially when going under cover is required. I liked the fast-paced action and thought Shane and Brandon were both likable. I would recommend this story, and now I need to go read the rest of the series!
