This is the second book in the series. It was very interesting. It continued the life of Ness and Aquilla but with most concentration on the children. Again, it was in no way preachy and barely Christian, in my opinion. It did mention the attending services and talked about conscience but that is about the extent.
The main characters are very well developed. The story flowed very well. The editing was pretty well done but not perfect. There were a few problems with wrong words or punctuation. Nothing that would ruin the book, just noticeable.
I would recommend this book to any wanting a good read set in ancient roman times. You will not be disappointed if you like historical fiction and a good, clean book.

This is the second book in the Love and Warfare series and follows one of the twins from For Life or Until. Eric is in constant competition with Wyrn and the two could not be more different. Always feeling inferior, Eric tries desperately to win his father's approval, only to both disappoint and be disappointed time and again.
Eric is a character that I did not immediately like. He is stubborn and prideful, obsessed with his own plans regardless of what may be happening around him. But when it came time to be honorable or pursue his own ends, he came through most of the time; not just when the outcome wasn't terrible if he did the right thing, but even when it irrevocably changed his entire plan for the future. I found, as the story went on, I came to respect him, then to really enjoy his character.
Both Eric and Cara alternately desire to please their parents, then rebel against them, choosing different methods to do it. Choices that impact others, often without regards to potential consequences, are made in a moment, then we read about what happens as a result and how the characters deal with the fallout. The choices are realistic, but also disturbing in several instances. The author does not shrink back from topics including gambling, corruption, drinking, and premarital sex.
As with the first installment in this series, this is a good book in a much smaller genre and it will appeal especially to those with an interest in life during Roman times. I would caution, however, due to some thematic elements, this is a book best left to adults.
