Amber Lee #4

Red Witch

Rate this book
A hunter becomes the hunted. A witch faces down her nemesis. The stakes have never been higher.

The veil of shadows surrounding my nemesis is lifted when a contact of Collette's comes forward with information he claims is valuable. The catch? He's all the way in Berlin, the German capital, and he isn't leaving his circle of protection for any witch. Making the decision to go and find this witch is easy, but living with it isn't; not when Aaron comes out of left-field with a question I wasn't sure I was ready to hear until I heard it.

Collette’s contact could be the key to defeating Acheris or, at the very least, he might become an ally in the fight, so I have no choice but to travel to Europe even though Aaron can’t come with me. But a mysterious blocking of communications separates me from the rest of the coven back home, leaving Collette and I alone to defend against whatever the devil's witch and her minions have in store for us.

Meanwhile, back in sleepy Raven's Glen, an ill wind blows; and Frank, Damien, and Aaron are about to run into trouble of their own...

Note that this book was once called The Red Witch. It has been remastered and re-branded in order to bring it up to speed, but it is the same book; the story has only changed in minor ways.

Red & Wolf

Amazing! Rollercoaster of a ride. Never a dull moment throughout the book. The continuation of the series does not disappoint one bit. Do read from book one, you don't want to miss any part of the series.

I sped through this installment, but because I wanted to just finish it off. While the beginning and ending hooked me, large parts of the pages in between really seemed to drag on and on.
I'm determined to finish the series though.

What I liked: The Red Witch was a thrilling tale about Amber’s next step in her journey to destroy the witch that has set out to kill her. In this novel, we learned more about Linezka and others (especially Collete, our residential Necromancer shrouded in mystery). It was interesting to see how this storyline progressed, and there were a few surprises (one of which I seriously didn’t see coming, and feel a little unsettled by) throughout the book that managed to keep me interested. I’m curious to see where the ending will lead us in the next book, its certain to have a few interesting reveals for us once we read it, reveals I’m apprehensive to read about currently.

What I didn’t like: While it was longer than the previous books, there was something…missing in The Red Witch, something that I can’t put my finger on. Besides that, I was also perturbed by Amber’s temper when meeting the new Necromancer and the way she reacted towards him after they spoke. It seemed rude, the way she used her magic on him, and frankly, it was unsettling and I really didn’t like that about this book. Amber’s temper is one thing about her that sparks at the wrong time and makes her do things that I feel as if are not the right choices.

Overall Review: The Red Witch certainly managed to keep me entertained while I read it, and though there were parts that left me wanting a bit more, and parts that left me feeling befuddled and wondering why the author chose that particular way to go with it. Honestly, I liked the way the storyline had hinted at it would go in the beginning of the book with Amber better than the way it actually ended up going. I also have a few qualms about the fight scene in Berlin, and questions that seemed to be obvious to me with their plan, but for the most part I found this story to be pleasing.

Recommend?: Welcome to the sixth installment to this series, if you’ve read the five others that go with this series, you’ll certainly want to see what happens in this one!

Such a great addition to the series!

I loved this book! I mean, I was reading it on my Kindle or iPhone while my husband snores in my ear. If he woke up to see that small "glow" (even with the screen black with white letters & dimmed), I would tell him I had just gotten a text from his daughter. Yes, I lied. But he doesn't like it when I get no sleep cuz I'm reading.

BUT THE BOOK IS FABULOUS! Here's a few reason's why:
-Collette is amazing. She's proper & all, but you know deep down that she's got some dark, really twisted magic she is saving up for something BIG!
-the architecture, absinthe, and general "feeling" portrayed while everyone was in Germany was great. It brought out the dreary gothic parts as well as the "modernization" of the growth Berlin is seeing. But the author really makes you understand what you can't really get a sense of if you haven't been.
-Damien realizing his past has come back to haunt him and that the possibility that his sister could have been more involved than he thought. And I wasn't s bit sad to read about his cousin's death.
-The showdown with Linezka. THANK YOU for not making it a kick-ass-fest & all is well with the world! We all know that to really fight your own demons, it takes more than one try and the support of your "family" needs to be on the same page as well. So CONGRATULATIONS on making me very happy that this war was not anticlimatic & just poof/done.
-the niggling question of Amber's ability to shift into wolf form. I know she's going to ask her parents to explain, but I'd like to think her & Aaron's baby that she's carrying allowed her that shift fir protection & preservation... Whichever one Fate prefers to call it. That's just my hopes, I'll start the final book after my doc appt today.

Well done, KM!! Can't wait to get my running done to get started tonight!! And reading has once again become the end to my online "window" shopping. (There are tons of things to buy for summer, and pre-buy for fall, as we don't have actual Winter down here. LOL!!)

I was first drawn to the books of Katerina Martinez by the beautiful covers. And judging these books by their covers is a very good thing, because what's inside is just as beautiful and wonderful as the covers themselves. Actually, even more so, as I was immediately drawn to the lush descriptions, great dialogue and superb plotting. These books, and this series in general, keep getting better and better, as Amber's world opens up into a dark, complex and very compelling place.

Each time I read the next book in the series, I think it's my favorite, until the next one comes along. "The Red Witch" is no exception. Amber and Collette end up on their own, relying on their own resources and each other, and then things get dicey back in Raven's Glen. The atmosphere and settings in each of these books is such that I feel like I'm right there experiencing everything along with Amber. And Raven's Glen is a place I wish really existed, along with Amber's house and bookshop. I would feel right at home there. And you will too the moment you pick up these books and start reading.

Phew, I had to hold onto my virtual broomstick cos this book was fast paced and filled with so many surprises! The ending was so unexpected and I am thrumming for the final instalment in this series! The book starts with the revelation that everyone is living in Amber's house. After their experience in the underworld, they all feel safer together. This makes Amber feel comforted and her relationship with Aaron is progressing well. In the back of her mind though is the prophecy & Amber is worried while not fully understanding what it means.

However Collette informs Amber they need to go to Berlin to follow a lead on the Linezka. The boys Aaron, Damien & Frank remain behind and face issues of their own in Raven's Glen. Unknown to this fab witchy five keeping them apart might be exactly what was intended.

Amazing story! Thank you to the Author-Duo for a great storyline and all those plot twists.

Amber Lee is a true witch and a force to behold

I have read the series from the beginning, gotten to know the coven and fallen in love with the writing of Katerina Martinez. The flow of the dialogue is never stiff or formal. The sensory input helps me to imagine I am standing beside Amber and seeing things right along with her. These characters have become friends since the first book. Each subsequent book has given us more in depth back story on members of the coven while also following their Magickal growth.
It seems like being a true witch has placed Amber on a very dangerous path. Her coven can only stand in support as Amber battles evil forces. This global fight keeps the entire world in peril unbeknownst to the non-Magickal folk.

Check out all six books, you will find enthralling writing so rare it should be winning awards!

You must read this!
This time out we get to see the world through the eyes of Amber’s brothers-in-magic while Amber tells us her adventures in Berlin. I loved being able to ride around in the thoughts of Aaron, Frank, and Damien. “The Red Witch” is an edge of your seat, gripping, thrill ride with more twists and turns than you can shake a wand at. And watch out for that sharp turn at the end. It’ll leave you screaming “What?! Where’s the next book?!”
The characters are learning more about their own special talents and how they mesh to become a powerful coven. Everyone is starting to embrace what makes them uniquely suited to be a part of the circle around the Red Witch. After all, normal is a highly overrated state of affairs.

Another captivating story in the Amber Lee series. This has Amber n Collette preparing to do battle with the Dark Witch. They r assisted by another necromancer n several other witch friends of Collette. Frank, Damien n Aaron r having trouble getting in touch with Amber by a magical block that the minions of the Dark Witch throw. Everything comes full circle with the final showdown in Amber's home town. The conclusion has several twists that were totally surprising.

This was another fantastic installment in the Amber Lee Mysteries!! We got quite a few twists and turns in this one with some interesting surprises. Amber is continuing to grow and change in many ways. We are learning more about Frank, Damian, and Aaron and their relationships with each other and Amber. We finally get to meet Linezka and see how she has influenced several of the characters. It is going to be hard to wait for the next one!

Just Wow....

I'm stressing out at the thought of waiting until January to see what happens next. Katerina Martinez really hit it out of the park with this series.

This book continues the series seamlessly. It's action packed, and tugs at the heart strings. The story is strong, and the writing is stronger! Looking forward to Frank's novella, and the next book in the series.

best of series!

You know when an author hooks you in and you just start binge reading? That's what I did. I was expecting things to fizzle around now and read a rush job or a subpar installment. Not so with Katerina Martinez's series Amber Lee. This was the best book yet and now I'm stuck waiting for the next installment. Keep em coming! I'm hooked.

Each book has become better and better. This one, the ending!! Without spoilers, let me just say, so freaking good. I can't and can wait for the end. I can't wait to read it but don't want it to be over. I happy I found this series, if you are new, start at book one. If you like witches, magic, demons, and werewolves, you won't be sorry.
