This book certainly took some sharp curves very unexpectedly so. I was drawn in wondering where it might take me. Then Damia I knew instantly and I couldn't stop reading. More people need stories including this subject because it's more than a subject. There were a few times I was a little lost but overall a good read.
This is a somewhat unconventional MC story for me. There were certainly some surprises I didn't see coming. I liked the amount of action in this book, but the relationships and the no-limits aspect wasn't something I was ready for. I liked the strength of Ivy's character though, and I'm curious to see how the story ends.
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This is the first time I read from this author, but I was not disappointed. This story has strong characters you will fall in love with as the story starts to unfold. I loved reading this book cause I love strong characters
I'm not even sure how to describe what I just read. It was confusing, it was choppy, it was... GAH! I guess I'm just glad it's over.
I thought it had some promise when it's first explained that her daughter had autism & Ivy was doing everything in her power (including selling herself) to make sure her daughter thrived in her current living environment but then the mudslide effect happened & a bunch of other sh*t got thrown into the mix. The brothel antics, the eating (I mean this girl eats a full meal with two Cokes in every other paragraph), the not-sexy, blah sex scenes, the is-he-supposed-to-be-the-Hero Hero, the friend from her past, the MC that just doesn't feel like a MC, THAT death, the lack of chemistry between Ivy & her guy, the whole bar thing, the biker trip, etcetera, etcetera... It just didn't flow together for me. *sigh*
I can definitely say that I will NOT be continuing on with this series.
I am not sure what this book really was about. I started out with a teenage mother, in the foster care system talking about how she had a child with extreme autism, then she was a prostitute, then she was married for money, then she send her daughter away for treatment, then... well the story was all over the place and did not make much sense. I was so confused and it took me almost a month to read it because it was so confusing and hard to read (and it is only 94 pages)!
I like this author and have enjoyed many other stories from her, this was just a disaster from my point of view. I will not read anymore in this series. I am disappointed, but will still follow this author.
What in the world was this? Not a story, that’s for sure. It felt more like the person who wrote this made a list of everything she ate in like a month and decided to throw in a half-assed attempt of a story into it just for the hell of it. Why? Because the way the story was written was like a shopping list with full detail of what the characters ate. In. Every. Single. Page.
The main character Ivy (and every other character) might as well have been a cartoon of milk on said shopping list, that’s how lifeless she was. There were zero personalities, zero development and next to no plot taking place. It was just description after description of what the characters were doing in their day by boring day lives, like a freaking Need to Do list. I mean, sure, it was an odd life as “A lady of the night” aka prostitute, but all that meant in this story really was a day by boring day descriptions of straight sex, what she ate, lesbian sex, what she ate, sex with the love interest, what she ate and then some thrown in descriptions of her living, construction of a bar and her motorcycle gang. Oh, and let’s not forget what she ate again and again and again. Seriously, this made ordinary life seem like the most anorexic fantasy come to life.
It did seem to try to have a deeper plot with the autistic daughter and the tragedy of her life as well as the big tragedy in the end. However the daughter was only a part of the story in the beginning and then barely even mentioned after that. Also, considering the characters had the same amount of emotion as a dairy product in your fridge you can imagine how little the tragedy impacted the story and impacted me as a reader. It was almost a relief because to me it only meant that the story had reached its climax (if you can even call it that) and would soon be over.
Overall the writing was so awkward and stilted, and so lackluster in imagination and passion. It was repetitive with the constant eating, sex, camping and even just Ivy telling everyone her story about her daughter. The few jokes there were were so bad that the only indication that it was “funny” was that the characters laughed. That’s all the the sideline characters were there for it seemed; to laugh and make jokes. Other than that they were nothing more than names that popped up but had no impact to the story.
Then we had the bonus story, My Kind of Dirty. I do believe that it for certain was the author’s kind of dirty, but no one else’s. To me it seemed to have been written by someone (ahem * the author) going through a dry spell and writing out their crudest fantasies just to get through it. Because as much as the story tried to tell me how oh so in love they were, it really only was about one thing. Sex, sex, sex. But hey, at least there was no eating.
This is the first book by Bella I have read and I really enjoyed it. It is different from other MC books because it is more about Velvet and her daughter than the MC. She does join an MC during the book but even after that they aren’t the focus of the book. I loved Ivy and her personality. She is spunky and doesn’t take anything from anyone. While she has had a tough life, she hasn’t let that stop her and she isn’t going to let anything keep her down in the future either. Ivy is a sex worker and she is ready for a change. She works to support her autistic daughter. She is ready to do something she wants to and provide for her daughter. Ivy and the other characters in this book are great. They are there for each other and would do anything for each other. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
This isn't a typical MC romance. It's mostly Ivy's story and is not without it's tragedies, but she's a survivor and a likable character. The story is a little offbeat (like the leading lady) but interesting enough that I wanted to see how it ended; then I discovered Ivy's story wasn't over, so although I wasn't overly attached to the character, I would like to see what happens in the next book. My rating for Velvet Ivy is 3.5 stars.
I know this review is supposed to be about Velvet Ivy but I can't not mention My Kind of Dirty, the bonus book. It is a very steamy erotic little romance and I loved it. Cara and Trey are smokin' hot! My rating for My Kind of Dirty is 4 stars.
Even though this book was free, I have to leave a review to save people the time and possibly the money. Velvet Ivy was one of the most scattered, inconsistent, convoluted books I've ever read. Ivy works in a legal brothel to keep her autistic daughter in a special school...OK. There is no further connection to any of the characters. The storyline goes all over, good guy MC, bad guy MC, PTSD, murder, awkward sex scenes..... just icky. I have no interest in what happened to Ivy or could care less about the Nighthawks MC. Save your time, it's a few hours of your life you can never get back!!
I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review. I'm not big on cliffhangers, so if possible I'll get the whole series. However, I found myself skimming through his book more than reading it which doesn't look well for book 2. My honest rating would be 3.25 because of the dark turn it took towards the end. Ivy is a strong character, so strong that she almost didn't seem to fit into this story, which in turn caused a disconnection. Don't think this book is for everybody.
This book was my introduction to Bella Knight and I really enjoyed this book. I love MC Romance and looked forward to reading this book. Velvet Ivy grabbed me early on and did not let go until the very end. I found the storyline and characters to be well developed. Ivy is a strong woman that is bettering herself for her and her daughter. I'm not really big on cliffhangers but this one is needed and I can't wait to read the next book. If you like to read MC Romance give this book and series a try, you won't regret it.
I recieved this book free for my honest review. It starts with Ivy, and meeting her looking on at her young autistic daughter. You really get know Ivy and who she is and what she is about. She works in the sex industry as a way to support her daughters school and put away enough money to follow her own dreams. The book is fast past with a lot of character and of course the Nighthawks MC. The only downfall I found in the book was that is did not give me my HEA which i crave, instead it gave me a thirst for revenge, which you will not see unless you get the next book.
Velvet Ivy by Bella Knight: Ivy is the mother of a seven year old daughter, who is autistic and needs a special school. Ivy works as a legal prostitute in a brothel in Nevada. This is her story of her life of love and lost. I had a hard time with is book and the subject, as I can understand the reasons behind the story I think it went totally to the other side. I have to say it was interesting, but not a story I could get into. I still would give this a three star because of the way the book was written. I received an ARC and have voluntarily left a review.
I enjoyed Velvet Ivy because she chose to make something out of her life even though she had a pretty hard childhood, Ivy made lemonade out of all the lemons her life seem to throw her way. She really didn't have a choice, but there is a saying about if you love your job you give it 100% and Ivy certainly did that and learn to love along the way. I would love to see the future book or books for Ivy. I received a copy as a gift from the author. I'm providing an honest review without obligation.
At times this book was confusing. At first I thought maybe it's about a apocalypse lol. And at other times I kept wondering if anyone in this book made it past 6th grade. They were talking in caveman lol. I did not get any connection between any character. Hated towards the end. Also this book is a cliffhanger and I really could careless about the next book, sorry. This book has nasty sex, no romance but does have drama.
This is the first book in the Nighthawks Motorcycle Club Series. This was a well written book with captivating characters and a strong plot. Lots of action, drama, danger and suspense in the Nevada desert. Enough steamy scenes to heat up your kindle. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily chose to write a review.
This was an interesting quick read. Ivy is striving for a better future than her current one. She is strong and smart, and helps those around her. I liked her character, but it does not end with this book. I enjoyed the story and look forward to the ending.
I received a copy of this book as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
A very enjoyable read that kept me hooked all the way through to the cliffhanger ending. Ivy is a very strong character who is a prostitute trying to take care of her autistic daughter. Lots of drama, action and hot sex scenes. Looking forward to book 2. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I received an arc of this book for a honest review.
This was the first book I've had the opportunity to read by Bella Knight. The book was just ok. There are some really good parts in this book and it has potential, but I didn't connect with or like either of the main characters. I don't know. It wasn't bad but it just didn't grab me.
While I like a good biker story this one was off the chart. The characters were great. Ivy being a very strong and independent woman knows who she is and what she's doing...Arsenal a ex military with some PTSD meets his match with Ivy. He belongs to a club the Nighthawks..great storyline. I laughed, got madder than one should for a story and even cried! Yeah good read!
Interesting writing style. Arsenal’s death was quite abrupt. Several segments of the story changed abruptly. The ending most definitely abrupt! Moving on to number 2 because I most definitely want to know what happens next. Hoping that the transitions will be smooth.
This isn’t your usual MC book. Ivy will do anything for her daughter and if that means prostitution she will do it. She meets the member of Nighthawks during this and they take her under their wing. They are not your usual guys but the do care a lot for others. A love she had no control over and a tragedy that makes her burn for revenge.
Velvet is a sex worker to provide for her autistic daughter and pay for her to go to a special residential centre. She wants to get out of that life, this takes you on her journey. This story shows that there is always a reason people do what they do, you can't judge them and you see the strength of a mothers love.
I really enjoyed this book. I think this book will go to number one. The characters are fantastic. I didn’t like that Ivy’s boyfriend died. I cried so hard. I hope she gets her revenge against Claw and his group. I can’t wait to read the rest of this story. You left me hanging on the end of this book. The second story is also great.
Awesome!! I loved this book . It was filled with twist and turns that that kept me captivated. I couldn’t put it down. Filled with great chemistry, hot steamy moments and danger. Absolutely a must read.
Now ivy is a smart woman. I love it. It sucks arsenal was killed before they could be happy. I hope her daughter gets better so they can be together. Ivy needs someone new mite than ever.
