Hatred … Brutality … … and loss. Feuds complicate life for Rebecca and her family. Neighboring villagers compete for diminishing resources in a drought-filled land. Raiding … … and burning. Compelled to hide within the walls of her village, she fights to maintain faith in all that is good. Can Rebecca develop the strength required to endure? Read the story of ancient days in a way you may never have considered – from a woman’s view in an easy-to-imagine story. Get it now.
Angelique Conger, has spent years enticed by the stories of ancient women, challenging her to comb through the Bible, gleaning tidbits of information about them, the little there is. No one knows or tells their stories, even their names are unknown. Many of their husbands’ stories are unknown, as well. Now, Angelique tells their thought-provoking stories as though they sat beside her, whispering into her ear. These are found in her series Ancient Matriarchs. Angelique discovered the wonders of writing books later in her life. Books, however, have always been important. As a little girl in a small town in southern Utah, she was given her own library card at the tender age of five, highly unusual in those days. She remembers walking the few blocks to the library on her own to choose the maximum number of books allowed in those days, four nice, thick books. She took them back three or four days later for four more. As she got older, she occasionally returned the books a day or two past the limit of two weeks. The librarians allowed her to straighten the stacks to pay off her fines. This introduced her to the Dewey Decimal System of organizing books early in life. Angelique reads a book or three much of the time. She reads most genre`s of books, often toying with the idea of writing a few herself. Her sister challenged her to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in 2013. She won that year and several others, writing the beginnings of the books in Ancient Matriarchs. Since then, she has spent many hours each day learning the craft of writing, editing, and publishing. Studying and writing about Eve, and other matriarchs, gave her a deeper understanding of the challenges faced in a new world. Many of the questions women want to know about her life, such as: Who helped her give birth? How did the learn to feed themselves? Who taught Eve about raising children? How did they learn to write? Though the answers cannot be historically accurate, they “feel right.” Angelique followed her husband around the world as he served in the United States Navy. Her favorite place to live was Hawaii. Though Gibraltar was interesting, it wasn’t her favorite place to live. She received a BED in Education from the University of Hawaii and a MS from Utah State University. She taught grade school for 14 years in Utah. Angelique strives to do her best to obey the command given to Eve to replenish the earth. She has five children and nine grandchildren, so far. Her goal is to be a noble matriarch like Eve. Angelique lives in southern Nevada with her husband, love bird, and two turtles. She looks forward to visits from her grandchildren—and their parents.
If you haven't read a book by this author you are missing out on a great story. Angelique Conger brings biblical tales to life. Telling the story of Rebecca, wife to Enos, the author takes readers into the days long past. I love how the author is able to make the tales feel so real and let readers realize how much better the Bible would be when told by a woman with a great mind. You might of heard the story before, but now step into an epic novel that brings it to life.
I have read the stories of Eve, Rebecca, and the other first of the Matriarchy Wives, of the men of God. I found the stories wonderfully insightful and illuminating. The process of writing historical Biblical fiction is challenging, but her stories ring so much with trials and joys you can imaging these women faced. You read about the men but little or nothing about the women. Their dangers, their pain of childbirth and raising children while still supporting the Men chosen for Gods purpose. It gave me a whole new area of beliefs and opening the word to read and discover other women whose stories have yet to come to my knowledge. Thank you those new experiences. I will continue to read and grow.
Excellent novel of Biblical times! You can thank Angelique for taking on the task of telling us about women of the Bile to enrich our understanding of life at that point of history.
I've read all 3 of her current novels, and enjoyed each of them. I am a heavy reader (4-8 books a week) and I especially appreciate an author who makes me comfortable.
The only incorrect mention I've found is a fork being used in this book. They simply did not exist at that time, and most meals were eaten with one's right hand, with bread of some sort being the utensil.
I just wish I'd read more history and historical fiction growing up! I never thought it could be interesting! I was so wrong!!!
Trials and tribulations that people face when they have a strong faith are met with non believers. They dont wish to listen to the good and live by doing evil. They dont see that by doing good you are blessed.. Rebecca and Enos's lives were hard and sorrow came at a point they struggle but do not give in to it they struggle to over come it. They are very blessed by Jehovah's love. A great book I believe people will enjoy this. Can't wait for the next one.
Rebecca, the wife of Enos, shares her story with the women. In this book we learn that God may allow bad things to happen, but He sustains us through them. When we believe in Him, He also promises that we will be reunited with our loved ones, even if it is after death.
