Charlie7 has his secrets. Every robot knows that history has a dark period where he was the only one alive, with no one to corroborate his story. That was before an old adversary, long believed dead, emerges from hiding to expose Charlie7 as a fraud.
With a newfound internship mixing new robotic personalities, Rachel Eighteen stumbles across an old file in the archive that no robot can access. The data it contains could upset the underpinnings of the thousand-year-old robotic civilization. When rebel forces seize control of the factory and take Rachel prisoner, can she hold out long enough for help to arrive? Does she even want to? What value does the truth have when the lie is all you've ever known?
I am a creator of worlds and a destroyer of words. As a fantasy writer, my works range from traditional epics to futuristic fantasy with starships. I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two.
Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them. Now, that's all I do for a living.
I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of your average notebook doodle. When you read my books, you are seeing me at my best.
My ultimate goal is to be both clever and right at the same time. I have it on good authority that I have yet to achieve it.
This is an amazing concept: the creation of a robot civilization either sentience based mixtures of a small number of human personality recordings following the alien caused extinction of humanity and all Earth-life; a robot racial goal of rebirthing humanity finally coming to fruition; robot revels and megalomaniacs with different goals, etc., etc., etc.
This is an amazing book: the "truth" of what Charlie7 did when the aliens wiped out life; betrayals and conspiracies, friends and enemies (and no clarity as to which is which); rival competing robotic masterminds, and so much more.
If you've been following along with this series then this book is truly essential as it will address so many things you've craved to get addressed. If you're new to the series then lucky you, you're in for a treat - but i do strongly urge starting from book 1 as this will be far easier to follow, and the impact of events more more profound, if you do so.
As a standalone without reading the prior books this is somewhere in the 3-4 star range (as it is well written and fun even if things will be missed). As the last in the series to date the book is at the height of the 5 star range (i.e., it would get more stars if they were available to be given).
This book was quite a page turner. I couldn't stop reading. I just had to know what was going to happen next. This is one of the best books in this series. A rebellion uprising, buried secrets, secrets being uncovered to the dismay of Charlie 7, and seeing the growth of the Eve sisters. It was a rollercoaster ride right to the end. J.S. Morin definitely out did himself in this episode. Now, we wait to see how robot kind will react to the return of Charlie 7 to Earth after he went to Mars to take care of some old business. We wait to see if Rachel can fix her friend Toby 521 after he was shot through his crystal matrix during the uprising. We wait to see if Gemini can live in a world outside of her floating prison without reverting to her robotic scheming. And, of course, we wait to see what happen with the young family of Eve and Plato and their daughter Abby. Also, will Eve be able to forgive her best friend, Charlie 7? These are questions that I'm chomping at the bit to find out in the next book. If you haven't read any books in this series, I suggest you do, you won't regret it.
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review. My opinions are truly my own.

A real treat for followers of Morin's Robot Geneticists series. At last, we get to hear about the end of humanity - from the people/robots who witnessed it - and the genesis of robotkind. Some of the shine comes off Charlie7's carefree smirk. And the upload conspiracy finally tips its hand! This one is high-stakes, folks.
A great novel in terms of forward-thinking and as well the great what if and what would occur if the human race only had one chance of survival no spoilers, the books and series, in general, are worth the read because it follows many characters from beginning middle and ends you will understand what I mean.
It was hard to rate this one, I still enjoyed it but not as much as the previous books, it was nice seeing Plato and Eve as parents and seeing some of the other Maddison clones growing up. will still look forward to reading the next one.
