Jimmy Liao (pen name: 幾米；autonym: Lao Fu-Bin, 廖福彬) born in Yilan County, Taiwan. in Fine Arts, with a major in Design. He had worked in advertising companies for 12 years. Now he works as an illustrator. Since 1998, Jimmy published several illustrated books with amazing originality and multi-faceted narratives. He had since set a fashion in creating and publishing illustrated books in local and international markets. Utilizing images as a refreshing form of literary language, Jimmy creates in his works poetic frames that emit charms and appeals. He has published seventeenth popular books so far, and they are translated into English, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Korean and so forth. Being the most popular illustrator author in Asia, creating lots of fantasy and touch hearts cross all generation, however, with low profile personality, he enjoys the family time more, lives a tranquil life and devotes most of his time to work. Immersing in his works is just like to go into Jimmy's inner world, his inviting stories reflect the reality of real life, more and more people are intoxicated by his vivid strokes and his magic realism narratives. Now in Asia, Jimmy becomes vogue of the time, beyond his stories, "Jimmy" is like a pop of a new life style.

Dün oturup bir çırpıda #BirDileğimVar’ı okudum 🤩 Dünyanın en tatlı çizimlerine sahip, çok tatlı bir hikayesi olan bir kitaptı. Tam böyle çocuğunuza, kardeşinize falan akşam yatarken okumalık bence. Çok uzun bir yorum giremiyorum, çünkü azıcık yazılı bol çizimli bir çocuk kitabı kendisi. Ama benim çok hoşuma gitti. Küçüklere hediye etmek, birlikte okumak için harika bir seçenek olabilir 🤩 #KronikOkur

Igual que en la bella "Desencuentros" (donde dos personas destinadas a encontrarse, no se encuentran por seguir caminos distintos pese a que viven muy cerca) acá Liao juega con el clásico tropo de cuento de hadas de la lámpara mágica que concede deseos, pero que su dueño considera un objeto para jugar, sin saber que oculta un genio misterioso que escucha los deseos de muchos niños alrededor del mundo. Todo el libro intercala deseos sencillos, otros terribles y otros tristes, en color y en blanco y negro, hasta el final. Es una hermosa reflexión sobre el querer y el esperar.

La narrativa de Liao es un claro ejemplo de cómo el texto es quien acompaña a las ilustraciones y no al contrario, eso es porque las mismas imágenes crean historia. El texto es casi una recolección de deseos de varios niños si tuvieran la oportunidad de formularlo, plantea la diversidad en el pensamiento de los niños con cada deseo, desde deseos pequeños como pedir que el gato baje de peso, hasta desear que la abuela vuelva a la vida.

¿De qué están hechos los deseos? ¿Cómo se ve uno? ¿Hay buenos y malos deseos? ¿De qué otro tipo existen? ¿Se puede vivir sin desear nada? ¿Es fortuito formular uno, o corresponde a lo que atravesamos en ese momento?
Jimmy Liao nos presenta un libro para cuestionar y pensar, no solo para leer. Fiel a su estilo, hace que te detengas en cada ilustración y línea. No creo que exista otra intención más que la de la reflexión breve sobre cada evento, y el disfrute de todo su arte. Y sin embargo, si pudiera formular un deseo, habría sido que el libro jamás terminase.
