Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries #23

A Tempting Taste of Mystery

Rate this book
The future is looking bright for Cheryl Cooper and her new fiancé, Levi Miller. Now that they’ve decided to make a life together, their biggest problem is how will they tell his family? When the town of Sugarcreek holds a pie-contest fund-raiser and many local business owners are invited to judge, Cheryl worries she may be biased because her best friend and future mother-in-law, Naomi Miller, is a contestant. Still, with the proceeds going toward a good cause, she really can’t decline the opportunity to participate . . . especially when contestants start dropping from the competition and rumors of foul play arise. What seems a silly coincidence, at first, turns dire when one of the contestants falls prey to a bad case of food poisoning and suspicion spins toward Naomi. Can Cheryl expose the culprit and prove her friend’s innocence, or will a pie-contest debacle bring an end to her hopes of a future with Levi?

A Tempting Taste of Mystery is an intriguing mystery written by Elizabeth Ludwig in the Sugarcreek Amish Mystery series. This story is filled with mystery, secrets, and humor. A fundraiser is being held to aid a local family because of a house fire. A pie contest is part of the fundraiser but it becomes the focal point when unusual events begin to happen. As the contest opens a table with three entries crashes to the floor, one pie is laced with Ipecac and sends a judge to the hospital, and a brawl between contestants happens. Who is behind the sabotage will shock everyone but the reason behind all the problems exposes a bigger secret. As Cheryl Miller and Naomi Miller work to expose the suspect and all the secrets, Cheryl's big secret is also exposed. Will Cheryl's biggest fear of losing Naomi's friendship come to light? The conclusion to this story may bring tears to your eyes. The author has done an exceptional job telling her story thru her characters.

I grabbed this book because the cover featured several pies. Sice I love mysteries and love to bake, the cover and title drew me in. I struggled some, in the beginning, to get engaged in this book, but eventually, it secured my interest. A pie contest in an Amish community gone amuck. A villain is out to destroy the contest, or is someone is out to destroy Cheryl who is in charge of the contest? Someone is definitely out to destroy someone or something.
Read the book and find out who or what.
