All Zadie Cox has ever wanted was to find a mate, fall in love, and have lots of kids. The problem is … no one wants her. The pack doesn’t care for a woman with curves, and no man wants “a fat mate”, which is what they’ve called her.

Dante Locker hates pack politics. When he’s invited on a month long visit to a neighboring pack, he knows there’s a catch. The alpha has a daughter—but there’s no way Dante’s mating with her. Then the moment he enters the town square, the redhead with the killer curves grabs his attention. He wants her, and Dante’s a rich alpha, a businessman, and he always gets what he wants.

No man has ever wanted Zadie, but there’s something about this new alpha. The way he walks, talks … and his devotion calls not only to her wolf, but to her. Can Zadie leave the pack that she has called home? Will she fall in love with Dante? Or is this just a month-long fling?

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound.
She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

Ok so I am leaving my gifs for this one because the title and cover are still god awful, but I read this one earlier and enjoyed it quite a bit. The hero was just about perfect. The heroine was sweet. Although I do wish she would have grown a bit more backbone concerning her pack a little earlier than she did. No OW/OM drama. No angst. Some hot sex scenes and a sweet epilogue.

That said, the author seemed a bit confused on how she wanted to portray the pack. We are told (repeatedly even by the heroine herself) how everyone LOVES the heroine. How everyone respects the heroine...blah blah blah. But in the same breath, we hear about how no one wants to mate her. How they call her the "fat mate." How they make fun of her. I was left scratching my head because that sure doesn't sound like a nice group of people to me. In fact, the only one that seemed genuine (apart from the heroine's family) was the bitchy pack good time girl who owned her attitude and behavior.

In any case, this author can be very hit or miss with me, and this one was definitely on the hit side of the fence.

"Fat Mate" is the story of Zadie and Dante.

So, in this book, our curvy heroine is a she wolf, who has been bullied all her life for being overweight. Called "Fat Wolf" and shunned by the males in her pack, she spends her days taking care of pups and wallowing in sorrow, while wishing for her own brood and mate. When a neighboring alpha visits their pack, she never expects he would be interested in her, much less claim her as his mate!..But he does. And they have loads of kinky sex. And he becomes her knight in shining armor. And HEA.

Ok, so the cover is atrocious. The story is very..reflective. The heroine is obviously extremely traumatized by the bullying and it's the hero who stands up for her, not her. Their lovemaking is average and weird. Almost no OW/OM drama.

I wish this was a better read but it just felt awkward.

I always like the concept of Sam's stories. However, there needs to be some serious edits done with all of them. I'm not sure how she has a publishing house but no edits done. Even small things like a question mark. Sentence structure is all over the place.

That being said. I love the ideas Sam has. Like this story here. I quite enjoyed the whole concept of it. And I hope Luke ended up with Dante's sister. Maybe that will be the next book.

This book suffers some a serious lack of editing. I'm not one to usually complain about errors, but some of these were so glaring( like switching who's talking in the middle of a sentence) that I just can't ignore it.

This was another great story in Alpha Shifter Collection series. It's mustread for anyone, but especially for insta lovers. Because Dante, our hero, claims h from first glance. Loved how he felt about Zadie. He was really protective of her, so was really pissed when found out about how males treated her. But those bitter lonely years weren't important to Zadie anymore, since Dante stepped into her life and she got everything she ever dreamed about.

It takes one night to read this book but it left some qmarks for me. When I read the story of Zadie, it was just like my own story. Well not the shapeshifter part but those parts where the main point was her curves. It was a ugly reminds that when you're bigger than everyone else, you are usual like outsider. And even I remember how awful feeling it was when other tells that when you are plus size and with curves, you are nothing or you never get the same things than other people with the same age etc. So when I read this book, it was easy to see how Zadie feels her life. And even though main thing in this story is romance, it is also one book which can make even me understand that yes, I'm plus size, so what. And that maybe there is somewhere also people who sees me like person, not only what size I'm. So it was short book with a little over 120 pages but it was much bigger because themes of story.

First off, the story was sweet and I loved the overall message it provided. I have no issue what so ever with the title, the cover or the plot of this story. If I was grading on those this would be 4.5 star book.

However.... there were so many editing errors, repetative sentences, mis-identified characters that it really detracted from the story and the message. There were times I had to re-read a paragraph because I was confused. There was also a lot of thoughts or sentences that felt copy and pasted, I must have read the same interaction three times in a few pages. In the end, the bones of the story were there and the thought and feelings were seen, but the editing and confusion made this a miss for me.

Loved it!

Great storyline! Loved that it focused on the relationship between couple and the pack. I love shifter stories and this one was great. Zadie gains not only a mate but also an appreciation for being true to who she is. Dante is an awesome Alpha and a good person who understands how to give Zadie the love she needs. Definitely recommend reading anything Sam writes!

I love Sam Crescent stories and especially her stories of full figure women! The title didn't bother me and I think it took a lot of courage to give it that title. Well done!!

Great job!!!

This story grabs you at the throats and sinks the claws in. In fact this story unlocks a lot of things that is at the heart of the matter. Body size shouldn't matter, the cruel things that can be said slices at a person, overcoming what we call body shaming is difficult and takes a strength of will to own it. Finding that special someone who loves you for you, well that is a dream come true. This story is special in many ways, great job.

3½⭐︎

Cute, low stakes read with no real drama or tension in the minimal plot line. This is really just a feel good piece fluff, which I'm fine with. One of many stories out there with Shifters who do not really shift or have anything non-human going on with them except mentioned in passing. I always find that odd, but whatever, it's fine.

I love the drama the title and cover on this one has caused. As someone who has reclaimed "fat" as a descriptor rather than a euphemism for negative value judgments, I'm totally fine with it and am impressed she went for it instead of safer options. The cover isn't great, but it's nice to see an actual heavier woman on the cover instead of the usual size 4 model that is used as the "fat" heroine.

There are definitely editing issues like WHOAH in this one which made it confusing to read at times.

My biggest niggle with this story is the treatment of a secondary character, Bianca, the pack Alpha's daughter. It was disappointing to see this character slut-shamed and her sexuality treated as dirty, especially in a Shifter universe where they're usually pretty free-wheeling compared to standard human counterparts. She had other qualities could have been called out as detestable, so it would have been nice to not see this misogynist trash floated as the main issue everyone had with her. But she really wasn't even a character you could hate after her one interaction with Zadie in the book. Her big sin is not wanting to be taken advantage of by male pack members or forcibly tied down. Yeah, how awful is she, amirite? The worst thing she can be faulted for is being gleeful if she can get pack mates to fight over her.

Fat Mate
By Sam Crescent

Zadie is the only BBW in her pack and while her pack is friendly to her and her parents and brother love and adore her no man wants her.

Dante is an Alpha from another pack visiting to further alliances between their pack's. Zadie's Alpha wants Dante to mate his spoiled daughter, Bianca, who sleeps around and pits the men against each other, but Dante only wants Zadie from the moment he lays eyes on her.

Zadie is a sweet woman who loves caring for the pack's children and loves cooking, but she dreams of having her own mate and children someday. Dante has been searching for a mate to call his own. When he sees and hears how Zadie has been treated by the men in her pack he's infuriated. She's perfect in every way in his eyes. Dante vows to love her, mate her, and protect her.

The story was well written and apart from Bianca (because of how she treated Zadie's brother) I liked all of the characters. It has low angst, love, an overprotective alpha, and a HEA.

This is not my usual type of read, but I took a chance because I saw a few people mention it.

Werewolves. Pack rules. These are not really my kind of jam.

But honestly, the sex scenes were hot, and the exploration of societal definitions of beauty versus actual attraction was worth stepping outside of my comfort zone in reading this.

Just Okay

Despite the fact that the main characters were endearing, sweet and well written, the book was just “bland,” it lacked some fundamental elements and I’m annoyed that I purchased it at the price I did because it wasn’t worth it.

**SPOILERS**

Zadie is a 25 year old wolf shifter who despite being “loved” by her family and pack, is subjected to hateful words every day, and loneliness. You see, Zadie is considered fat for a wolf, fat even in human standards. She pretends not to be affected by the shaming, but she is hurt, she just hides it well. Every full moon there is a “mate run,” where unmated wolves run and the male unmated wolves chase the wolf they desire. Zadie has attended multiple ones since she was eligible at the age of 18, but no one ever chased her…she was considered undesirable and given the nickname of “fat mate.

Alpha Dante has been invited to Zadie’s pack by Zadie’s alpha, Sloane. Dante knows that Sloane wants an alliance between their two packs cemented by Dante marking and mating Sloane’s daughter, Bianca. But Dante hates pack politics, and really hates the idea of mating Bianca, who has a reputation of being mean, shrewish and a, pardon me saying it, a slut. Dante however respects Sloane and accepts his invitation, he’s accompanied by his sister Bethany and some of his pack.

When Dante arrives and is greeted by Alpha Sloane, a remarkable thing happens…he smells the delicious scent of lemons, a hint of vanilla, and sees that the scent belong to a beautiful curvaceous, young woman, that woman is Zadie. He becomes instantly fixated on her, knowing she’s his mate and wanting her desperately. For Zadie’s part she thinks the visiting Alpha is attractive, but doesn’t even think she’d be attractive to someone like Dante, someone wealthy, well off, and an Alpha to boot.

Dante begins to slowly woo Zadie. At first she’s not aware of what he’s doing, but it soon becomes clear that Dante is, in a way courting her with the intention of mating. Dante is furious when he learns that the Pack has made Zadie feel undesirable, and only useful at basically running the nursery, cooking, and taking care of people when no one takes care of her. Dante is determined, now more than ever to mark and mate Zadie, and bring her home with him to his Pack who would adore and appreciate all of her, and everything she does.

Zadie slowly falls for Dante, and although is takes awhile for her to really accept that Dante wants her, finds her attractive and wants to mate with her, she eventually does. Dante chases her (one thing she’s always wanted but never thought she would have) catches her and then have sex, where he proceeds to bite her marking her as an Alpha’s mate.

The epilogue fast forwards 10 years. Zadie and Dante have 5 kids and she’s expecting twins in 3 months. Her life has been wonderful with Dante, her new pack and then her children. She’s happy, loved, content and has all she ever dreamed of.

**THOUGHTS**

This book was only given 2 stars by me because is was just so…well “bland,” and cliched. I liked the characters but there wasn’t any true development to them, and the plot, though sweet, was just so so. It read like a textbook shifter romance. There were no twists, almost no drama at all, nothing remarkable happens and it all is tied up neatly with a boring HEA. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE HEA’s, but I like when they’re delivered after a satisfying surprising and exciting book. I love HEA’s when everyone the FMC and MMC (or main male characters) go through something, anything, deal with issues or problems, solve things and grow in the process. An HEA after a bland almost boring story truly doesn’t make me feel anything…well it annoys me, especially if I’ve paid for the book at a price I don’t believe it deserves. “Fat Mate” wasn’t poorly written but it was boring, bland, cliched, and extremely predictable to the point of being ridiculous.

I honestly wouldn’t waste my money on this book. If it’s offered through kindle free, then yes, sure read it…it’s an easy, quick, stupidly predictable novel…but if you have to pay, truly don’t waste your time or money. It really not worth it.

I was a bit torn on how to rate this book.
While I have no issues with the title or the cover that everyone else seems to have issues with, my issues come from the lack of editing and the confusing nature of the pack.
The pack loves Zadie, or at least what she does for them. But in the next breathe we're being told how everyone is mean to her calls her "fat mate" and a slew of other names. Hell even the alpha of her own pack thought it was funny when Dante showed an interest in her and he even started to call her fat. I don't know if the author just couldn't work out how she wanted the pack to come across, but the way she did write it confused me.
The editing, I'm sorry to say was atrocious. There were repeated sentences, mispelled words, and confusion between who was talking to whom...needless to say this was not up to the standards I'm used to with this author. I can handle the couple missed things here and there, but so many within the first couple chapters is ridiculous.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. Zadie was a lovable woman, even though she did let everyone walk all over her. Dante was an amazing hero, who was determined to show Zadie she deserved nothing but the best and her weight shouldn't matter.

First of all, I want to address the title of this wonderful book. I know there was an uproar over it with people being upset over the word "Fat". Why? It's a title, that's all. If you are hurt or offended by the TITLE, how are you going to feel when you see the word in the story? What is the difference? The title of this books fits the story PERFECTLY. Don't give a low rating just because you hate the title. Get the book and read it first!

Now, on to the book. I freaking loved it! I could tell that the story was from the heart because when a book makes me really emotional, I know the author has a real connection with her characters. I felt heartbroken for Zadie when she realized that no one would probably ever chase her and then I cheered when Dante came into the picture and KNEW this was his mate!! He never gave up even though she had given up on finding her mate. Sometimes there is a lot of drama with the character who is considered the "bad person" but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't want to give away the whole story but this has become one of my favorite Sam Crescent books! It's written with real emotion and that comes through in her writing. Ignore all the drama with the title and get this book because you will love it!!
