For The Sake Of His Heir is book six in The NcNeill Magnates series by Joanne Rock. I love Joanne’s books and was so thrilled to win this book in a Goodreads give-a-way! I have not read any of the other books in this series and it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story at all except that there are a lot of family members and I had a bit of trouble keeping the family tree straight.
Gabe McNeill, grandson to the famed magnate, Malcolm McNeill, is owner of the beautiful Birdsong Hotel in Martinique. Malcolm wants his grandsons to marry, to have families, so he has decided to put a stipulation in his will that none of them will inherit their portion of his empire if they haven’t been married for at least a year. Gabe thought he would have no problem fulfilling that stipulation. He had fallen in love and gotten married to Theresa who had visions of being a famous singer. As soon as an opportunity came her way, she lost interest in her marriage and had no intention of being a mother. Except she was already pregnant. So after the baby was born, she gave up rights to him and went her own way, leaving Gabe to raise his son, adorable little Jason, on his own.
Brianne Hanson is a landscape designer and has known and been friends with Gabe for years. She has had a crush on him since they met but kept her feelings to herself as she watched him fall for another woman. When things fell apart, she kept herself in the friend zone, especially after Gabe brought her on full time at the Birdsong. She loved living in Martinique but missed her Nanna who she owed everything to who was still in New York.
Gabe’s marriage didn’t last long enough to fulfill his grandfather’s stipulations. Little Jason is the most important thing in his life and he can’t risk losing his chance at his inheritance. Gabe has always felt an attraction to Brianne but she was also his best friend. When Brianne learns that her Nanna is in trouble in New York and needs her help, it’s the perfect time to spring his plan on her. A proposal of marriage for one year to fulfill his grandfather’s rule. In return, he can provide everything necessary to help her Nanna.
Both Gabe and Brianne underestimated their attraction though, and one kiss is all it takes to ignite desires not easily ignored. After celebrating their wedding night together in bed, Brianne knows she has already given her heart to this man. She has to put space back up between them or she is going to end up with a broken heart. It’s probably already too late.
Gabe trusts Brianne, with himself and with his son. The chemistry between them is crazy. It doesn’t take him long, though, to realize that he feels more for her than he realized. Can he convince her that one year will never be enough? That he wants it all? That he wants a forever with her?
This was a sweet book and I couldn’t help but to love Gabe and Brianne. Neither had had an easy childhood. That spark was there between them from the start, it just took them awhile to finally see it for what it was, the beginnings of something that could last a lifetime. Will they finally take the risk and open their hearts?
It’s personal preference but the fact that he got married and had the child with his ex wife AFTER meeting the h (by the sound of it h had a crush on him already) is a dealbreaker for me. Period. And then to marry her when she has some use for him is terribly selfish thing to do and screams like a user to me. So what if the ex wife was nicer and didn’t abandon him? Clearly the h is not even the second but the 4th choice. After his ex wife, child AND inheritance. Call me a snob, but I don’t like my MCs to be anything less than the absolute first choice.
Also, as carol’s review confirmed he was IN LOVE with his ex wife. Call me shallow or petty or whatever you want to. I am not interested in a hero who’s actually been in love with someone else while heroine was in picture. Heroine had to watch him build his life with OW WITH love and happiness. Now she has to take care of THAT woman’s kid, a permanent reminder that she wasn’t good enough. So no. Once again, that simply tells me, heroine wasn’t his first choice. Wouldn’t be his first choice if he had the luxury to follow his heart not the stipulation of a will and found himself between a rock and hard place. It doesn’t make me sympathetic towards him. It makes it distasteful and him look like the exact lowlife user as he is.
Reviewed @ Thoughts By Tash Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review It’s been a while since I have been in this world, so I was very keen to meet the newest McNeils who were introduced a couple books ago. Half brothers to the original trio of brothers and they are trying to deal with the same circumstances . Meeting the conditions of their grandfather’s will , which means happily married and a child on the way, all in one year. Talk about pressure
Well for Gabe, he was already set to meet those requirements even before he knew them but life had others idea and he finding himself in a predicament. See he has the child and he wants Jason to be his heir and have the inheritance and is determined to fight with any means. However his grandfather doesn’t seem to see eye and Gabe is about to do something he might regret. Marriage to his employee Brianne who secretly been interested in him but she got her own problems that could throw a spanner in to his plans.
From the moment I meet Gabe and Brianne , I knew they were both selfless people, as they were willing to go an extra mile to help others in their family. Gabe’s son and Brianne’s grandmother was always the first concern for them both and it showed.
Even when they had to marry to help each other out, it was only going to be fun struggle. As they were human and the sparks were there. When the tough got going, these two knew how to see the best in each other though it got a bit hairy at times. As Rock throws everything at them and Gabe got a big of a chip on his shoulder thanks to his ex- wife and it played a big part of this novel. Brianne was in for the fight of her life as it seemed the odds were stacked against her . Despite the sparks, there was a lot going on this novel and she was the outsider as the family had no clue who she was exactly at first.
His family , had no clue what was going on truly and I loved that family was a big aspect in this novel as this book is a world wind of adventure as the couple travel a lot due to the circumstances they find themselves in . I loved how family, was a centre of this novel , as allowed for us to met even more McNeils and future lead characters. I loved how Rock keep us on our toes with this one by throwing them in and showing us future plans for this series whilst giving us a great story.
Rock’s latest novel, was everything I expected from McNeils series, and I loved returning to this world. Great writing and leads I could get behind easily, made for a good read and I didn’t want to end. I do hope certain things do continue the way they are after this novel. But it’s a great addition to the series and I loved the couple in this one like the others.
For The Sake of His Heir by Joanne Rock is book Six in the "Billionaires and Babies" series. This is the story of Gabe McNeill and Brianne Hanson. I haven't yet read the previous books so for me this was a standalone book. Gabe wife ran off and left him and their baby. So Gable has a jaded experience with marriage and didn't think to enter into it again. But now his grandfather is putting a addition to his will that he must be married to inherit from him. Brianne always had a crush on Gabe but then he got married and she moved into the friends zone. Now he needs her help and to do that they must marry. Really sweet traditional Harlequin story! Loved it.
For the Sake of His Heir (Billionaires and Babies; The McNeill Magnates) by Joanne Rock The McNeills are always expanding, forever demanding and foremost a family. Ms. Rock turns complicated into captivating. The wealth, power and prestige mean nothing without loves warm embrace to guide the way. Yet another McNeill brother steals our heart! Joanne Rock's latest in the McNeill Magnates series brings us Gabe's story. He's tucked away raising his son and running his Martinique resort until news of the family draws him to New York to get to know his grandfather. It's a fast paced read with drama, sweetness and passion all wrapped into one! Very easy to like characters and just enough conflict to keep us on the edge of our seats until the happily-ever-after shines through!
Gabe McNeill isn't the least bit happy to hear about his newly discovered grandfather's stipulations ... be wed for at least a year or be left out of the will! Is it his fault his flaky wife ran off on him and their newborn son just months after marrying? Is he supposed to be crazy enough to want to try his hand at love and marriage again immediately? If he wants his son Jason to get a part of the heritage that is rightfully his, he guesses so!
Landscape designer Brianne Hanson adores her boss Gabe and his adorable son! Truth be told, she used to harbor a huge crush on him ... but obviously she wasn't going to lust after a married man, so once he married she stuck him in best friend territory. When Gabe comes to her with a convoluted plan of a marriage of convenience to secure Jason's inheritance, she is shocked ... but the more she thinks about it, the more it makes sense for both of their situations. Being up close and personal with the attraction they feel for each other isn't going to be all that convenient ... but a real marital bed could be!
“For the Sake of His Heir” is book six of Joanne Rock’s McNeill Magnates miniseries and features single dad Gabe McNeill and landscape designer Brianne Hanson.
After finding out about Malcolm McNeill’s decree that his grandsons must marry, Gabe decides to ask his best friend Brianne to marry him. He’d been down the aisle before and it hadn’t worked out so asking Brianne was the best option to secure his son’s legacy with the McNeill family name. Brianne agrees to the one-year marriage for her grandmother’s sake. Her grandmother made sure Brianne was taken care of as a child when Brianne’s own father pushed her aside and now Brianne needed to return the favor. Gabe and Brianne are both very protective of their families and though friends for a year, they feel more toward each other than friendship. Their attraction heats up on a cold Wyoming night that is hot enough it could’ve melted snow.
“For the Sake of His Heir” is a marriage of convenience story between two best friends and, after a scorching wedding kiss, brings the promise of love…and forever. Ms. Rock concludes the “Other” McNeill’s trilogy with more insight into another branch of the family – the Wyoming McNeill’s. She has also become one of my favorite Harlequin Desire authors and I look forward to reading more from her.
For the Sake of His Heir is a nice addition to the Harlequin Desire line.
In this book, Gabe McNeil finds himself wanting a marriage of convenience to not only fulfil his grandfather’s wishes so he gets a slice of the family business for his son but also to create a stable family in the event his ex-wife ever decides to fight for custody for their son.
Brianne Hanson, Gabe’s landscape gardener, is who he asks to marry. Brianne agrees to not only help Gabe for his reasons but for her own. Brianne’s grandmother is not only suffering from poor health but she is being harassed by her daughter-in-law, Brianne’s stepmother.
I really like Brianne. Her childhood was not a happy one and she carries many of these issues into her adult life. There was a depth to her character that I did not see in Gabe in this book. The Gabe in this book did not seem like the Gabe in earlier books, especially in his drive to create beautiful woodwork.
The story whisks us from sunny Martinique to cold NYC and on to desolate and even colder Wyoming as Brianne and Gabe fight their feelings and later fight for their marriage. They may come from polar financial positions but they are suited as a couple.
I enjoyed meeting the Wyoming relations. I assume the setting was as a set up for their own books in the future.
Brianne Hanson is doing a huge favor for Gabe McNeill. Gabe’s family dynamic is not a happy one but he’s willing to do just about anything to make sure his son is happy. You can tell that’s he’s a dedicated father.
Even though this is part of a series, you don’t need to read the first five to enjoy this book here. But I think you’ll find that as you get to know Gabe and his family you’ll want to find out what you may have missed previously. Even though this series is about the McNeill family, you’ll come to like the fact that Brianne is willing to do just about anything to help someone she cares about. It’s a great romance that starts with family and ends with family. I will admit that I cheated. I had to know how long I was going to have to wait for the next McNeill installment so I may have gone hunting on GoodReads. I’ll save you a little time because the next book coming out is titled The Forbidden Brother and will be coming out in July – not too long to wait.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Gabe is still bitter from his marriage to his ex..She got pregnant but didn't want the child so Gabe is raising him..Brianne works for him at Martinque beautifying the gardens. She gets a letter from her Nana that raised her and she has to get to New York. Gabe gets things together and they jet off..they are going to meet his grandfather.. While flying there Gabe proposes a fake marriage for a year to help him to retain custody of his son and to do as his grandfathers will dictates...They have been friends forever and she is afraid of messing that up but when he says he will help with her Nana and knowing she can be around him and his son she agrees..But there is no smooth sailing for this marriage of convience...will they be able to stay friends? Will they fall into bed? Will they guard their hearts or fall in love? This was a wonderful book from page one.I couldn't put it down.I love these McNeill's as they all have hearts of gold if they don't want to think they do..I hope there will be more books about them!
For The Sake of His Heir is the 6th book in the McNeil brothers series by Joanne Rock. If you have been following my reviews of this series you know that Cameron has been my all time FAVORITE McNeil brother. Well until now that is! Yes you read that correctly Gabe has officially stolen my heart where the McNeil brothers are concerned.
Gabe has one concern and that is the future of his son. He will ensure that his son gets what is rightfully his no matter what it cost him. Gabe has built his own reputable business and takes care of him but he isn't going to let his son's inheritance wonder away all because his ex wife is a nit wit.
Brianne is a lovely lady. She has worked for Gabe for years and always carried a torch for him but kept it in check because she is professional enough to do so. Brianne has also fallen in love with little Jason. He is just too cute.
I loved how Gabe fought for his family and didn't just let someone railroad him. I love his strong beliefs that his family should become all else. Gabe McNeil is a family man through and through. I just love him.
This is my first introduction to the McNeil men, and I am not disappointed. Gabe seems rather dreamy with all his romancing and amazing dad routine, and Brianne is so strong and independent, having to overcome a rougher childhood than most. Something felt a little off with the flow of the story to me, but I still enjoyed it.
The slow burn these two have for each other is enough to set your Kindle on fire. I was screaming at them to just tell each other how they really feel, give in to the temptation! They were so comfortable with each other, the moment something was off in one of their minds, the other could immediately feel it. Their interactions with each other ranged from humorous to incredibly sweet, and their sexy times were fire!
I really enjoyed all the secondary characters! Nana Rose was amazing! I loved her so much, such a spitfire. The extra McNeils they go to see in Wyoming, were so different and had great personalities. I will definitely read more from this author, I should probably catch up on all the other McNeil men.

Although this is book 6 in this series I read this book as a standalone however I definitely would love to go back and read them. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with the characters in this story. I really liked and admired Gabe. He was pretty dreamy and it was quite obvious that there was a mutual attraction between him and Brianne. So even though their marriage started off as a convenience I was really hoping that it would become more - they were pretty perfect together. Brianne was a real genuine character and loved how much she loved her Nana and the relationship that she had built up with Gabe’s son Jason. As well as Gabe and Brianne there were some great secondary characters, especially Nana Rose!! I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future; I really enjoyed her writing style. The pace of the story was good and kept my interest from beginning to end.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has secrets, passion, love, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first The Magnate's Mail-Order Bride (The McNeill Magnates #1) The Magnate's Marriage Merger His Accidental Heir Little Secrets: His Pregnant Secretary Claiming His Secret Heir
This is Brianne and Gabe’s story. Gabe has been manipulated for the last time. He is going to make sure of it. He needs Brianne to agree to be his bride. He just needs her to help him out since he is being forced to remarry. They have always been business only and this is just going to be a business transaction. That is until feelings start coming out that were not there before, and passion is ignited. But is it all one sided? Or will this business transaction be the best things that has happened to them both? Can these two go from friends to lovers? Will this be the beginning of something beautiful?
I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
This is a sweet and touching story about billionaire Gabe McNeill and Brianne Hanson. Gabe and his infant son live in his resort in Martinique. The child’s mother chose her career over her son. Leaving a motherless boy and a man devastated not only for himself but also for his sweet boy. Brianne works as the resorts landscaper, has been a great friend to Gabe and secretly has been in love with him for a while. The attraction been there but never acknowledged. Now Gabe needs to marry to secure his son’s inheritance amongst other reasons and proposes a marriage of convenience to Brianne. As always, Ms Rock gives us not only an engaging story and strong characters, but she also reminds us that love can overcome obstacles. In this one, she also highlights the importance of family, trust and friendship. I suspect we will be reading more stories about another set of McNeill’s who are established in Wyoming. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I used to devour these Harlequins like candy and it's been a while since I have read one so it was like going home and seeing an old friend to crack this book open and give it a read.
This book had so many of the romance tropes packed into it that it hit all my buttons! Single dad, unrequited love, friends to lovers and marriage of convenience all wrapped up in one highly enjoyable story. It didn't feel like too much and suited the story.
This is book 6 (I think) in a series but I've not read any of the others but still enjoyed and caught on to the dynamic easily.
I give this one 4 stars just for giving me so many feels and being a enjoyable easy read. A bit of angst but not too much and lots of build up between the two main characters. There was heat as well (although being a Harlequin it was on the tamer side but the Desire series is one of the spicier ones).
This was my first book in the McNeil men series and by Joanne Rock as well. I didn’t realize there were others in the series before reading or I would have checked them out. This was a true Harlequin novel with it’s the slow burning tale. Gabe is a single dad and quite the man. Sweet and sexy but still holding back the temptation he’s offered by Brianne. There were some funny moments along with the more sexual ones to build up the tension. All in all, a good story, but maybe would have been better starting from the first book with all the secondary characters that popped up.
Beautifully written romance with a few steamy moments included. Brianne is a gardener in Martinique for her friend Gabe McNeill who is rich. Gabe's first marriage to Theresa doesn't work out, leaving him a single father to his son Jason. For those that want a happy ending read, friends to lovers/partners story this is the right book! Wonderful characters, places and story line.
This book grabbed me from the beginning and was such a fun, fast read. I love strong Alpha characters that have overcome some difficulties in life. Adding in a whole family made it even better because all the personality differences added in more fun to the mix. Highly recommend this book and now I am off to go get the one before this one to see what I missed.
Gabe is the last of the McNeil brothers to fall, at least those descended from Liam. Though he initially fights Malcom’s edict to marry, Gabe falls as hard and fast for his best friend as his brothers did. Gabe and Brianne are fun to watch. Where the story could have gotten predictable, Rock changes things up. This series has been a favorite from the start. I’m sad to see it end.
This was my first book by this author and I will be checking out some of her other books as well. To me, the story started out slow. I was interested in the story but I felt I could put it down and come back. About half way through, I found myself not wanting to out it down. This book even tugged at my heart strings. I would recommend this book.
I read it and I loved it however I do think that the running away part near the ending was a bit much. Why didn't she see the dinner through, or at least wait & discuss the issues at the cabin? Anyhow that's just me I would have loved to see a confrontation between the ex & the wife as the wife took her man, but I guess this way is more dignified.
Every book by Joanne that I have read is just so good. The story always flows perfect and the characters you fall in love with. This book was no exception it was a wonderful read. I had my tissues beside me for this one and I used a few. Joanne hit a home run with this book!
It has the limitations of a novella. So it’s understandable that there’s a lot of telling instead of showing in terms of feelings development that makes it kitschy a lot of times. I liked the epilogue.
I LOVED THIS STORY!! Single Dads are a huge fave of mine and Joanne Rock completely rocked this one! I adore Gae and Brianna! This was just a wonderful, feel good, sexy romance! LOVED!!!
