This book tells the story about an agent Qiao Chu who goes back to the ancient time in trouble and becomes a female general from a slave, then gets a like-minded love. It is a female inspirational story involving harem fight and power struggle and a variety of popular themes. With the increasing needs of "female chauvinism" in the market in recent years, this kind of book is very attractive to popular women.
I got trapped... I watched season 1 of Princess Agents only to find that the show had been cancelled after it was taken to court over a lawsuit by Xiao Xiang Donger for plagiarizing. It was both a gut punch that the show wouldn't finish leaving the hero dying in an icy lake AND a ray of hope --- maybe the story was at least similar to Dongers story and I could have some form of an ending....
Yeah, after reading the story, there is no way the author didn't win his lawsuit. So if you, like me, need an end to the story -- this is the book to read! Its FANTASTIC! The details, lives, desperation and choices of the characters take you on a 30 year journey across kingdoms, friendships and wars. The best part of this is how the wars continue... that one war doesn't poof solve the instability of an area, nor does winning a portion of a kingdom mean the start of a new nation and peace. This follows a more true to life struggle for a throne and one girls struggle to protect her inner self while staying true to her convictions.
It took me really long to complete it not because of the main story but because of the spinoffs. I finished the main long ago, but only got to finish the spinoffs recently. Normally, I enjoy the 番外篇s but this time I had to push myself to finish them. I don't really feel like most of them added anything, so I would recommend skipping those unless you're really interested between the backstory of 李策 and his first love from his servant's POV, and a snippet of the perils of 燕洵's successor's reign.
Main story wise, I don't remember a lot of the details, but I remember enjoying it. I'm sorry I couldn't be more explicit; I have a memory of a goldfish. Comparing this with 扶摇皇后, I enjoyed 扶摇 more because the writing was more comical at times, while I felt that 楚乔传 was a lot more somber. Especially the parts with 李策,OMG, 你可以再虐一点。And this is the first time I wanted to smack the second lead so hard.
Anyway, I've enjoyed it, but not enough to read it again like I did with 扶摇; hence, 3 stars.
I enjoyed Parts 5 & 6 of this book the most & it’s such a shame that the TV show did not film these 2 parts. I particularly enjoyed the interactions between Zhu Ge Yue & Chu Qiao. The spin offs/epilogues (番外篇) were ok & did not really add much to the main story so it can be skipped. Overall it was an enjoyable book though I did find some parts particularly Part 3 and 4 a bit boring.
I read this book because of my friend’s recommendation,it was actually amazing! However,i think this story isn’t suitable for mids, because they have many deep inside message which young children won’t get it and they might find it boring. But to me,i think is very great, the personality of each character is specail and the story made me laugh when yuwenyue and chuqiao argue with each other. In conclusion, the story is really amazing, but the spinoffs aren’t as great.
