"500 years ago, he was the Monkey King; 500 years later, he wore the gold band and took on the journey to the West. He forgot the previous lives and fought against those who had worked with him; the previously handsome Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy changed into a pig demon in this life. The lover was in the heavens and they would not be acquainted with each other even if they met one day. Jin Chanzi made a bet with Tathagata on people's unyielding resistance with his reincarnation; the Little White Dragon was unwilling to marry to the Heaven, thus changed into a white horse to accompany her lover forever at the cost of lifelong silence. One day, the Heaven would burst into flames and the majesty of the gods would be challenged again because there was a group of people who would rather die than compromise.
I am so miffed that stupid movie distribution rules and cultural discrimination(?) here mean I don't get to see this in local cinemas:
Didn't even know there's a movie out there and even though I've read mixed reviews doesn't make me less curious about it T^T
Anyway. As Journey to the West reimaginings go this story seemed to be more YA (the way I like it lol) so will spend some time to read it before watching the movie adaptation.
