It's field trip day and Mrs. Goolsby is taking the class to the sugar factory. It seems like a sweet place, until they're all dodging the flying sugar beets! The tortured tour guide finally reveals the factory's secret . . . it's haunted. Can Malcolm and Dandy rid the refinery of the clinging ghost who vows she'll never! never! never! leave?
I'm the author of literally (get it) dozens of books for children.
Born in Killeen, Texas on a cold January day in 1954. My family moved around a lot, allowing me to, over the years, live on a farm, in an historic home and always near rivers or bayous. My playthings were hula-hoops, old typewriters and a wooden leg named Charlie. (Yep, you read that right.) If you want a true glimpse of my childhood dreams, read my novel, Man in the Moon. The character Janine allows you inside my young mixed-up mind.
I’ve lived most of my life in Houston and still live there today. You’ll find me here reading, writing and smiling.
My students couldn't get enough of this and the whole series is being borrowed all the time. Me? I appreciated that they liked it and really want to find more books with these subjects at this reading level. Even for a bit younger students? Also, I cringed at times with some of the subtle stereotypes ("his MOM's utility closet"?!).
Like those before it, this book follows a familiar formula that is entertaining, but not really very deep. Lots of funny lines, and a somewhat clever solution to the problem. The use of a hand-held vacuum may be one of the best parts of this book.
