Captain Ben Deland sails north from the Caribbean to join the English and provincial forces moving to stop the French from control of the frontier. But Ben becomes the only hope for the rescue of loved ones snatched by Indian and French raiders.
For those folks who enjoy a rollicking adventure tale with an historical context, 'Captain's Sortie' is a book you don't want to miss. It's set during the 'French and Indian War' (the popular film, The Last of the Mohicans, is set at this time) and the battle for the continent rages between French and English. Colonials are stuck in the middle. Captain Ben Deland and his companions find themselves in desperate straits when some of Ben's band are captured by the French and their Indians and forced to journey to Canada, to be sold or ransomed, or have their scalps sold there. The book reaches a fiery finale in the British capture of the French fort near the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. This is a fascinating period in the country's history, and this well-researched, fast-paced book will take you back to those turbulent and exciting times.
5.0 out of 5 stars A sea and land battle saga in 1758. ByGreg Didaleuskyon July 24, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition Mike Fuller's novel Captain's Sortie draws you into the French and Indian War in the Winter of 1758. Captain Ben Deland, a tenacious, twenty-nine-year-old captain of the sixty-foot sloop called the Annabelle engages his young and old crew members in sea battles and land battles. The Ottawa and Huron Indians, and the French captain, Jean de la Rue, are Captain Deland's nemesis. Mike Fuller descriptive story telling carries you from chapter to chapter until the final scene. This is the second Fuller novel I've read. I plan on reading more of his novels between writing my own mystery/suspense novels.
