To keep her out of trouble.
But one look at that body of hers and I'm the one in trouble.
I'm supposed to keep her clothed and fed.
Wait for my boss to come and collect her.
I'm not supposed to fall for her.

descriptionI like this cover. It's a good representation of the hero. The composition is good. The typography is interesting and eye catching. I am not crazy about the "EXCEPT ME..." being so far below the rest of the byline. Personally, I would have moved it up and then moved the whole byline down a bit. All in all, though, it's a nice cover.description

descriptionI feel lately like I say the same things over and over again when I review this author's books. I simply just enjoy the way she writes. This one was a little different than what we are used to with this author. No daddy kink in sight and it was a little darker in tone. I read some pretty f-cked up dark books, so for ME, this was equivalent to dipping your toe into the dark.

As always it was well written and nicely paced. It had some twists and turns and an interesting plot. It had some kinky sex scenes. There really wasn't any secondary characters of depth, but they served their purpose and moved the story along. Both main characters were likable.

description

The book's length is such that it falls between novella length and full length because of that I felt the characters (and the plot) were a little underdeveloped. Or rather "I" would have liked more background on both of them especially Jack. I would have also liked to have seen the plot more fleshed out as well. That said, I pretty much almost ALWAYS feel that way with shorter books especially if I am enjoying them so don't take my feeling that way as a negative reflection.

So, all in all, it was a great way to spent a couple of hours, and I really hope this author explores her dark side more often. Two thumbs up from yours truly.description

What I want to make clear is that this is by far, the most enjoyable book I've read by Lucy Wild. I would recommend this book to those who have read her work or are interested in reading her books.

The best thing about Kept Safe is that the motivations of each character are different and unexpected. The only person without any valid motivations or anything else is Annabelle/Bella. She is more of plot device or an object than a person throughout. Hell, the supporting characters have more depth and dimension. I didn't care enough about Bella to like or dislike her. I cared enough to see what was going to happen to her next at the hands of Jack.

Oh yes, Jack Rutherford. My, my.

Jack with his shadowy secrets, sinister kidnapping of our heroine, and dominant disciplining of her. He became my overall focus without any physical descriptions or details, just actions, and dialogue. I wanted to know who he is, why is he doing this to Bella and what are his motivations for it all besides genuine lust and hunger for her. I kept visualizing Jack as Keanu Reeves's character, Jack Wick, which shows you that his character is more fleshed out than Bella's. Take any current blonde starlet (Blake Lively etc.) and she could strike a Bella pose easily, more of a prop than a female protagonist.

There's a creative plot twist that made me feel as if I were watching a thriller with a few kinky sex scenes, and those were pretty steamy without being overdone. If I had to have any issue with this novel, I would say I didn't like the flashbacks after reading the beginning. The flashbacks switched back and forth from Bella and Jack's POVs made the intro repetitious. I would have liked it better without revisiting both Jack and Bella's flashbacks of what already occurred the introduction.

Otherwise, this was a solidly inventive, dark and smexy book that brings together two unlikely people. It was fun while it lasted and the HEA for Jack and Bella is bittersweet and cute.

This ARC was given to me for an honest review.

3-3.5 Stars!

This was an interesting story and I enjoyed the overall plot line. However I felt that everything happened really quickly... it felt like the author was trying to jam in so much within a fairly short story. It went from zero to fifty really fast and I wasn't expecting the pace.

The book had a slightly darker tint to it as it had themes surrounding abduction but it wasn't too intense. The heroine got on my nerves a bit but I enjoyed the hero a lot, he was super sexy and alpha.

""You're a bad girl for tempting me with your beautiful body. Do you know what happens to bad girls?""

Overall a great read!

I read Kept Safe as an ARC for an honest opinion. As always Lucy Wild did not disappoint. This was action packed and fast paced but also sexy. Jack moves in next door to Annabelle (Bella). At first glance Bella is attracted. She begins day dreaming about him. As Bella gets into the shower one evening she is kidnapped. Her kidnapper says that he has been hired to keep her safe. He is a bad man so why dies Bella love when he touches her. Is there something wrong with her? Who hired him to "Keep her safe? And who is after her? I really enjoyed this. It had a little suspense and was definitely sexy. I look forward to the next one!!

Well, that was just a 'meh' read for me.

Belle is a young woman growing up in a troubled family. Even as a toddler she witnesses her parents fighting over her while she plays in the backyard.
Jack is a distant family friend, working for Belle's father until the family had been split apart. Upon seeing Belle at young age for the first time, he was drawn to her.
Things start to get interesting for the both of them when Jack gets settled with the task to hide Belle in his basement, after not being in contact with her for over 15 years. Things aren't what they seem for the both of them and problems quickly arise.

While the blurb sounded incredibly intriguing, the book sadly fell flat on it. The story felt rushed from the first moment (I don't dare say we have insta-love meeting Stockholm syndrome here, but it feels exactly that way), a ton of questions had been left unanswered () and the book didn't give the reader time to warm up to the characters.
Jack felt a little bi-polar at times and Belle was a tad too naive and easy-trusting.
The sex scenes were pretty hot, though.

There were also some typos here and there throughout the entire book that forced me to re-read some scenes.
3 stars from me for this one.

This was quite an interesting and unusual story because it is not immediately clear in which direction the plot heads; nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and the additional twists and turns made it an intriguing read. Jack moves in next door to Bella, but he has chosen this house for a reason; it has a cellar ready to be used. Bella finds her new neighbour handsome, mature, confident; all the things a man should be. As Bella starts fantasising about Jack, she wonders how someone as old as he is can be interested in her when she has no money or prospects. But there is something about the way he looks at her. What Bella doesn’t realise is that she has met Jack before; she was only 3-years old at the time, oblivious and blind to the danger surrounding her. Now 15-years later, Jack is here to keep her safe, but the last thing he needs is for anyone to start wondering about him; if they did they would find out far more than they needed to know. Jack kidnaps Bella and keeps her locked in the cellar; when Bella realises why she is there, she wouldn’t hate him, she would thank him, or will she? Nothing can prepare Bella for what happens to her, or what she discovers, once she is no longer kept safe by Jack. As this story develops it becomes quite enthralling and appealing. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

This was a pretty entertaining read and I liked the story, but I wished more details were provided. Things were just skimmed over and there wasn't a lot of follow-up on many events that could have provided a richer reading experience. Overall though,I did enjoy my first read of a Lucy Wild novella and will watch out for more that interest me.

Arc received from author in exchange for an honest review...hmmm, this is the 3rd book i have read for Lucy, and unfortunately I haven't up'd my star rating from 3.5 stars 😕

Kept Safe was a different sub-gen to her usual DD/lg, this one being a "kidnapping" theme, which i enjoyed.

Reading other peoples reviews has made me actually resubmit a new review due to the fact i dont think some readers have a clue? I dont want to dictate what readers enjoy or their opinions, but! I dont think a lot of the readers who reviewed this have done any serious reading either? Dark, BDSM, 5🌟? if i purchased this book going on those reviews i would be sorely disappointed.

Kept Safe is a lightly dark (if at all) read, with a bdsm loosely based theme. As far as "Dark" goes...try reading some Pepper Winters, thats dark! This read had a little violence but nothing too hardcore, and a not to heavy kidnapping scene, so i presume that is what people are rating the "dark" on?
Bdsm, yeah, nah. This guy liked to spank ass and had devious thoughts, but if you have read BDSM, then you know it is 99% of the time consentual, rules, safewords and kinkery tools of the trade...this did not. This had kinky sex, a little slap and tickle and "be a good girl and do what i say" or ill fuck you...hard! But the sex and chemistry was good.

Ok, as for the characters themselves. I liked Jack. He was manly, muscular and knew how to please...everything you want from your alpha. His intentions were good even if he went the wrong way about them? E.g. the kidnapping didnt make sense to me, his violence was unnecessary and i think he could have told her what was happening, why she was in danger, and got the same outcome? He kidnapped her for his own pleasure...and that was the only reason it happened!

Bella, oh Bella. I didnt really care for her character and nothing about her really appealed to me unfortunately. She portrayed the victim well but was irritatingly annoying with her "I'm scared" attitude one minute then "Im hot and wet and want to fuck him" the next.
I like my female leads to have a little gumption, at least fight a little? She could have escaped, called for help quite a few times but didnt and i dont think Jack was that scary or intimidating to stop her from doing so, so why was she a hostage again?

The storyline was a good concept and in the beginning i thought we were going somewhere interesting, but unfortunately it sort of sizzled out. It had too many unanswered questions, not enough background on the "whys and wheres" and just became too unrealistic with the plot and characters actions etc. I think if the story and characters had more depth, and the book a little less rushed, it would have been more enjoyable. I didn't feel any emotion or connection which ruins a read for me, i like to relate on some level and feel like i am living the story with them!

Ok, to finish...next time i would love for Lucy to give more "behind-the-scenes" to the story and characters as a whole and really try to get that connection happening between story, characters and reader. Give us the fine details that make them who they are...this can make a big difference!

I love Lucy and hate knocking an authors blood, sweat and tears...i dont want to make anyone feel bad, but i also want to give an honest rendition of what i have read. I feel like a lot of arc reviewers give 5 stars, great reviews because they are afraid they wont receive further arcs?
I give feedback that i hope is going to be taken constructively? If you read a lot of the 3 star reviews, we pretty much say the same thing...5 star reviews should be for seriously good writers and reads that affect you long after you finish the book! 💜

I volunteered to read an ARC and hot damn I could not put the book down, she admires her new neighbor not knowing he the man hired to kidnap her, for her own protection.

What starts out as a kidnapping to save her quickly escalates as he realises just how submissive and responsive she is, and once they start it only gets that much hotter.

When the action starts and they take her from him, he goes all bad ass knight in slightly tarnished armor and rescues his damsel in distress. A really exciting book, well written and with just the right amount of suspense and hot sex to balance out the book.

I liked this book. From the beginning the reader knows that Jack isn't who everyone thinks he is, but we don't know what his true agenda is. We also know that Bella is stronger and smarter than she believes she is. I liked how Jack have her ways to prove that she could be trusted and how he came to realize that he was starting to have feelings that would blur the lines. I also really enjoyed the mystery of who was paying Jack to keep Bella safe and why. Really good book and I can't wait to read the next Lucy Wild book.

This story is about a girl who is kidnapped and falls in love with her kidnapper and he fall in love with she, although I will be honest, for me the reasons for the kidnapping are not really very clear and the story seemed to me in many ways somewhat forced, just It did not work for me.

This was a slightly different story from Lucy Wild, it was a bit darker, and a little edgier than her normal writing but, I loved it!! With each and every book I become a bigger and bigger fan of Lucy's writing.

One day on a writing break Bella notices the super sexy and older man moving in next door, Jack. She's instantly attracted to the mysterious man next door. Jack moving in next door to Bella is not a coincidence and completely tactical on his part. And slowly all the reasons unravel along with Jacks restraint to keep his hands off Bella.

I really enjoyed the suspense and unfolding of secrets in this book, and even though Jack had his moments of insanity I loved him as a hero!!

Everyone is looking for her. Jack is the only one who knows where to find her... in the dark corner of his basement. But he's keeping her safe. Maybe he's not exactly good man, but in comparison to them.. he's the lesser evil.

Under every stone is darkness, down there you find a lot of things that only grow in the shadows, things nobody wants to see, things nobody needs to know about, things that would get me locked up for a very long time if they were found out.

One moment, Bella is standing in the shower, and in the next one she's being thrown into the truck. She doesn't have any idea what's going on, who took her and why. But then she recognises her kidnapper.. and soon she starts to respond to him like she shoudn't.

I felt like the world’s worst person. Society would judge me for how I’d reacted. It wasn’t right to feel like that about someone so awful, so vicious, so cold towards me.

That's my second book of this author and I can already say that she's writting quick and enjoyable stories. I read it in only few hours and it was well written, the mystery of all of this was kept almost to the end (great tension in that thread). I really liked the criminal side of this story, but I've got the feeling that this book is more suspense than romance. There wasn't really love story here, they practically jumped from a kidnapping to love. I didn't feel any affection between them; the chemistry was just fine, but something deeper was missing. I got the impression that for him it was more like obsession than true feelings, and as for her.. I don't know how much of it was behaving in surviving act, and how much wasa just fascination. They didn't really how time to know each other, at least she didn't know him very well. If the book was longer, this tread could have been developed really great. I just missed their love, because they weren't lacking of passion. ;)
So, to sum up - I enjoy that one, but it wasn't stunning, it was just good. I'm waiting for something longer, which will draw more emotions from me, make me read with bated breath while sitting on the edge of my seat. I think that author is on the right track, I have nothing to complain about erotic scenes, but I just like my books more developed. :) So I'm eager to read next books to check out the progress in writing and developing stories and characters.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I had a difficult time trying to put together my review. I apparently have a very different view of this story than other readers have so, please bare with me. I have read and liked other Lucy Wild's books but, with her departure from the 'Daddy' sub-genre into darker elements, I did not find it as enjoyable. I was a bit surprised because I was intriqued by the synopsis. The story begins with an 18 year old girl being snatched out of the shower, gagged, blindfolded, dragging out of her house and thrown into the trunk of a car by a self-professed monster. This is not your typical romance start.

There are things in the story that don't make sense. Why does Jack, the monster kidnap Bella? Is it really for her safety or his obsession with her? What happened to her parents...the full story? Where is her aunt, during Bella's kidnapping? How does Jack go from being abusively dominant to adoring and in love within hours? How can Bella manage to be locked in a four wall cement basement with only a bed for days without the use of a toilet and shower? (I know it's silly but, details make the reading experience more authentic.)

As I finished the last chapter, it was as if I read two books. The first book more of a suspense thriller with all of the dark elements. The second book beginning as "policeman" frees Bella from Jack's house as the romance.

I appreciate Ms. Wild's work and creativity. I will continue to read her books even if this one wasn't my cup of tea.

A Dark Romance based in London! This book contains some BDSM so if you like it or want to give it a try Read this book. Oh My Gosh I Really liked this book. I Love the way it all played out.

Jack Rutherford kidnaps the girl next door. Someone is after her and he was hired to protect her. He had a plan, take her put her in his basement, keep his hands off her, and wait until he can send her on her way. He follows his all his rules except the biggest one. He can't keep his hands off of her. She is to tempting and the need to protect and to discipline her overtake his feeling about sticking to the rules. He knows her shouldn't, he knows he will probably be killed for touching her but he cant stop himself.

Bella is Eighteen and living her life the best she can. She doesn't expect to get kidnapped especially not by her hot new neighbor. She is scarred and confused. Her feelings toward the man who took are not normal. She shouldn't be attracted to him. She should be scared but he tells her he is trying to protect her. She cant help but want to believe its true. She still can't help the way her body reacts to him.

This book is full of adventure, mystery, Love, Sex! If Your in the mood for a dark romance with some Action then You will love "Kept Safe"!

I liked this book. The main characters are likable even though there is little background given on them. There are some hot scenes between Jack and Bella and there is some action as Jack does his job in protecting and keeping Bella safe. The story has a twist or two that you never see coming. It is well paced even with the omissions in the story -it starts with Jack meeting Bella when she was little and playing in her yard and hearing her parents arguing in the house and then skips to Bella living with her aunt and there is no explanation of what happened to her parents or who they were and what they did (some things are explained at the end of the story but not completely). The story has a decent ending but the author has written an additional chapter (available through her newsletter) that gives a finishing touch to the story and wraps it up nicely.

This was a short, fast paced, and interesting story. I would not call it a dark romance, but it is for sure a romantic suspense. It was a whirlwind of intense suspense, a lot of kink, and unexpected betrayals. I read this story from cover to cover in one sitting, and I was interested the entire time. I wish there was a little more at times, and I wanted a little more background information thatnexplains what lead up to the situations that take place. Jack was intriguing, but Bella was a little to trusting and easy to forgive. I prefer a little more angst to my stories. The ending is satisfying and happy, but with just a smidge of sadness. It was, overall, an excellent story. I would recommend this story to those that want a suspenseful story fully equipped with kink, and HEAs.

This was my first Lucy Wild book. I do believe that I am now a fan.

I wont lie, at the beginning when it was from Jack's POV and he talked about knowing her when she was 3 I was not sure how I was going to like the story. It really ended up not being nearly as dark as I thought it was. Jack was pretty hot though. I really did like the suspense about why did he kidnap her? Who was he working for? Was he a good guy or bad guy? I loved the suspense. I loved the twists. The end was both happy and sad, but more happy. It was a very enjoyable way to spend my Friday.

This is a quick hot spicy sexy read. Bella & Jack's story is a dark & twisted tale with a suspenseful plot. The premise of the novel intrigued me & the suspense kept me turning the pages. Characters aren't developed as well as they could be as we get very little background on them. However, chemistry between these two is off the charts. The ending was perfectly concluded with no lose ends. I volunteerly reviewed an advanced reading copy of this book.

I received this book willingly from the author.

This was definitely a different book than what I am used to. At first, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get into it. But after a chapter or two, I had no problem. It definitely is a dark romance and not always for the faint of heart.

Jack's job is to keep Bella safe and the only way he can do that is to keep her. Bella, of course, at first does not understand.

This was a short read with lots of twists and turns. Great book!

This was a really good story. Bella and Jack wanted each other from the beginning. It just took Bella a while to admit it under the circumstances. Loved the twist with Detective Rikers and I'm glad Jack wasn't the only one who didn't see it coming.

An entertaining story, but somewhat confusing. Confusing in the term of - 'how did we get here'?, confusing.
A bit naive character both in trusting and agreeing to things. It bothers me that Jack is into things and talks about submissive, but doesn't act within it like what's ok and not.
Overall, it's well spent time reading this book.
