Black Rose #5

Silver Rose

Rate this book
History called it the shimmering court. A palace of glass upon the water surrounded by silver roses. For a millennia it stood as a symbol of power and stability within the immortal realms.

In a single night, it washed away in a sea of blood.

Six hundred years ago, Mara, the immortal Captain of the Black Rose Guard, led her knights to their greatest victory: the annihilation of the Muir Court. For avenging a fallen princess, she was hailed a hero. Yet for Mara, the mirror reflected only a killer.

Haunted by the slaughter carried out in the name of honor and duty, Mara hoped she had fought her last battle. But when knights of the Arum Court murdered her sub-captain, hope shattered and the blood roses began to bloom.

Determined to avenge her fallen comrade and save the young woman for whom the long-dormant roses have awakened, Mara dons her ancient Arius blade, and prepares to once again lead her men into a fight from which they may never return.

All the while, her enemies prepare to exploit her greatest weakness: the life of her only love, Edward. Deep in the heart of the Arum Court, King Mathew hoards secrets of his own as a voice whispers through the shadows: Beware the Silver Rose.

I am dead! My heart is in pieces on the floor right now! This was another fantastic installment in the Black Rose series full of passion, magic, danger, court intrigue, and hope. I am loving the continuation of Mara and Edward's story and I have grown quite attached to them as well as some of the secondary characters, I sure hope Gareth gets his own story and happy ending. Dang you KL for giving us an other amazing story and making me dread the wait for the next one!!!

Wow! I'm twisted between wishing that this book had been the last installment or thanking the author for teasing me with another release. Heart breaking is one way to start this review, which is no surprise if you've read all of the books. Another way to describe it is beautiful. Not many authors can capture and create a world this lovely and, at the same time, evoke so many emotions from their readers. There is a lot of back and forth between past and present but i, personally, think that this writing style, especially for this storyline, is what makes it all the better. A love story that is beautiful, yet heart wrenching due to being duty bound. Read the books you will not be disappointed. Thank you to K.L. Bone for delivering yet another exceptional masterpiece and I look forward the to reading the Princess of the Rose.

Amazing storyteller!

K L Bone just keeps getting better and better with each book in this series The love story of Mara and Edward is enthralling, the honor and magic of the Black Rose Guard is unfailing, and the vengeance for the fallen princess Liza is almost complete. I truly can't wait to see what happens in the next book! I highly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a wonderfully told tale.

I am such a fan of this series that I take my sweet time reading and reading and re-reading the pages over and over. Silver Rose is beautifully written as are all the others. In this installment of the Black Rose series many questions are answered and some answers come with much heartache and surprise. Bone is a master at putting you right there with the characters and feeling all of their emotions. I cried, I delighted. I raged!! All of it is so realistic yet not lacking in fantasy. My beloved Mara put to the test time and time again. I feel as though I cannot bear to read on yet I can't put the damn book down. Marissa the most vile evil queen even manages to be more horrid yet I can't get enough of her. New characters with unfolding stories yet to come. I can't wait to get my hands on "Princess of the Rose".

In this book of the Series of A Tale of the Black Rose, K.L. Bone takes us back to a day Mara would like to forget, with dreams and nightmares of happy times ahead and the past. Mara is having a hard time to deceiver between a dream and real life. I sure hope by the last book, Mara and Edward sure get the happy life together that they so deserve.
K.L.Bone takes you back with flashbacks to the battle of the Muir Court and that lawful day. You learn more about how the battle came to be and how the Black
Rose won the battle. As you learn how it went from start to finish, there is a lot of jaw dropping occurrences. Surprise after surprise as the battle takes place. Then the confession to Edward hundreds of years later.
You find out who Sandra is and that in it's own self is jaw dropping in it's self. How?, Where was she? ,and How did she survive?, are some of the unanswered questions still left about her. I'm sure down the line we will learn more about Sandra. You also find out who the Sliver Rose is connected to.
Mara make some uneasy decisions for her troops that have them questioning what is going on. Jake is made the Caption of the Black Rose and Sara is made the co-Caption. Why? Where is Mara going? Is she giving up The Black Rose?
And the best part, if you can call it the best, Mara makes a deal with Mathew and Edward isn't to happy about it. But this has been coming for a long time and I can't wait to read about this fight. I will be cheering Mara on all the way.
So as I conclude this review, I look forward to the next book of this series. K.L. Bone is one very talented author. To be able to write a story or in her case stories with flashbacks that draw you in even more then the actual story of that particular book, is absolutely amazing. Until the next book!

I got a little whiplash from the back and forth to past and present from this book. I was almost in tears when I realized there was to be yet ANOTHER book in the series. I'm not sure if it was from joy that the story would continue or sadness from the fact that it was yet to be concluded. I NEED TO KNOW!!!!

First off, we have solved a few mysteries in this book. Why Sandra effects the blood rose, when Edward and Mara first had sex 🤗, and one question I've been asking myself since book one, how Phillip died. The latter was enough for me to close this book satisfied!

I started this series because I fell in love with Mara. She's a bad ass even in love. Since then I have begun falling for other characters. With the way the story concluded, and given the title of next in the series, I have a funny feeling the story will soon have us falling in love with Sandra and Regald.

The book was very educational on the past. Things we didn't know come to light. Things I never expected were shared too. The present story took several steps forward since the night Mara poisoned Edward, but not too far.

This, by far, was another success by Bone. I don't know how she does it, but every time she draws me in and I'm forced to read the book from cover to cover as quickly as I can.

***I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange which was generously provided by the author.***

So I don't hide the fact that I love this series, I love the characters and I know the world that KL Bone has created. This installment was still wonderful and heartfelt and I loved it, but I want so badly to find out how Mara and Edward will end, I'm bursting at the seems.

This book definitely turned a corner and took some unexpected turns. Mara and Edward's time at the Arum Court surprised me and what the found out was definitely shocking. I was not expecting that in the least!

I'm interested to see what will become of Sandra. I still LOVE Garreth and now respect Phillipp and Regald so much more now. I don't have too much more to say without spoiling things, except I think I really need Princess of the Rose now.

PS Mara remains one of my favorite all time heroines. I get hero eyes when I read about her :) :) :)

This installment in the Black Rose series is a chilling, thrilling, gasp worthy emotional rollercoaster! Much the same as the previous ones in the series! Literally could not put it down! Loved every page! Except where the nasty Queen Clarissa was concerned! I am not sure there is another queen I hate so much in all the books I have read!
K.L. Bone is a genius!

This book had my mind spinning with the possibilities of who Sandra could be, what really happened with Princess Liza, what do the roses want from Mara! Oh my goodness! The theories and questions are endless! I am dying to get into the latest book and see if my theories are correct and hopefully too see the end of the nasty Queen!

Book 5 of the Black Rose series

The author continues to grip my heart throughout the entire book. My emotions have been from happy to sad to devastated to hopeful to shocked. Again it's filled with strong characters and creative world building amidst a storyline of heartache, despair, deceit, forgiveness, and love thru the ages.

Fulfillment of vows...Destiny...From the Shadows...Challenges & Choices...Fate...
Betrayal...Revenge...Deceit...Retribution...

"Until the last sword falls." "From this breath until my last." "My everything." "My Heart. My Soul. My Love." "My Princess. My Rose." "Forgive me."

I cannot wait to see how the series ends in book 6.

Every book in the Black Rose series gets better and more exciting as you advance! You encounter lies, secrets are revealed, deception to the deepest place of your heart, people you have grown to love have turned on you, family ties are severed! This book is a page turner and I caught myself rereading parts to make sure I read it right because the words were so heart wrenching! Love the series and cant wait to continue on to book 6.

Intense!

I am loving this story as it moves forward! I am in shock of things hah have happened through this story and the things that are coming to light. I am also saddened for Mara and Edward as their story progresses, its seems as they never catch a break in their tale. I can’t wait to see how everything concludes in book 6!!

A lot of things begin to fall into place. The characters are so broken that they can't even see it. The story is well written. I don't mind the back and forth on the story, what I did get a bit confused on is the different courts. There is one more in the series and I am hoping more will come.

Silver Rose by KL Bone is the fifth entry in her Black Rose Guards Series.

This sweeping epic continues the story of Princess Mara, Captain of the Black Rose Guard, and the tragedies that have made her who she is today.

Silver Rose is the designation of the Muir Immortal Court. The destruction of that Court is chronicled in flashbacks to that very time, approximately 940 AD.

This is, at heart, a love story, in the tradition of the tragedies of old. Because when you love as deeply, as completely, as Mara and Edward do, Fate likes to step in with the kind of obstacles that causes true tragedy.

You must read this tale of lovers and enemies, darkest evil, and lightest good.

Silver Rose is the 5th book in this series and is so shockingly good it has slowly become one of my favorites from the series. In this instalment KL Bone answers so many unanswered questions. We start this book with a gasp worthy chapter that makes you believe that you missed something from the previous 4 books. We see more of the harshness of Queen Clarissa as well as details into the death of Princess Liza. We see more of the love and length that Mara will go to to save Edward while making a deal with King Matthew...which I honestly hope Mara follows through with. Can't wait to read more in Princess of the Rose.

Wow!

As each book is read, I find I cannot read the words fast enough, I must know what happens with each passing page. I am in awe at the skill to keep straight the centuries of stories for each character that K.L. has created. I cannot wait for the next one and what all will he revealed in it and all other books to follow.
