Modess Wilder, Alpha of the Blood Lust pack, hates just about everything and everyone. Right now, the thing he hates most is being in Shadow Wolf territory listening to the offer of exchange from the Shadow Wolf Alpha. A fierce and violent Alpha, Modess, has ensured that his pack has everything it needs. There is nothing Shadow Wolf can offer the mighty Blood Lust pack that it doesn’t already have.
Hillary Walters is just trying to skate by as a non-essential member of her Shadow Wolf pack. She’s bought her way out of servitude to the pack males by making herself useful in the kitchen. When the vicious Alpha of the Blood Lust pack arrives, Hillary’s directive is simple. Feed the visiting Alpha and his men. Summoned to her Alpha’s quarters, she is startled to find her bags packed. Her Alpha is sending her back with the Blood Lust shifters.
When he stated his demands in exchange for his enforcers teaching the Shadow Wolves to fight, Modess wasn’t expecting the excellent Shadow Wolf cook he’d requested to be female. Determined to ignore his instant attraction to the woman, Modess intends to keep her busy in the kitchen and far away from his bed. But, with her beauty and her talent, Hillary is damn close to finding a way to the dominant Alpha’s heart.
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)
Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit! (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

I enjoyed this book, it’s a fairly quick read. It’s focused on the relationship progress between the H/h. The H is quite intense and the writing is ok.
The heroine was a complete moron and might as well have been a virgin. The hero was a manwhore to the tenth degree. I wanted to smack both characters AND the author because the decision making was all over the place. The heroine had no back bone and the hero was a piece of crap. 90% finished and he's like "oh maybe she's my mate because i miss her? I still don't know!"
OH AND THERE WERE ZERO FUCKING WOLVES IN THIS BOOK!!! Its a shifter book and there were no wolf transformations or anything. All you get is inner monologue from the hero and heroine that their 'inner wolf' sensed something. Makes zero sense to me.
3.25-3.5 stars. This was an okay book for me. This is Hillary and Modess's story. Hillary is the cook for her pack. Modess is the alpha of another pack. Hillary's alpha loans her to Modess's pack for some enforcers. Hillary is to teach Modess's pack cooking skills while Modess's enforcers teach Hillary's pack fighting skills. Modess is attracted to Hillary but fights it, though he eventually gives in and they begin a relationship.
I enjoyed this book, but it wasn't anything I hadn't read before. I didn't feel a big connection between the couple or very many emotions. I liked Hilary but Modess was only okay for me. He was very gruff and grumpy, which made his relationship with Hillary seem to come out of nowhere. I didn't feel the emotions I was supposed to feel. There doesn't seem to be fated mates in this shifter world, which threw me off a bit, too. But the writing and the story were fine. This author was new to me but I would give her a try again in the future.
3.5 to 4 stars for this one. I love Ms. Bliler writing, this story is sweet and lovely, I really like Modess and can’t wait for Simone and Bull’s book (pretty pretty please!!)I would have loved to read about Hill announcement but, it is what it is; hopefully it will be in the next book (hint, hint), the only thing I did not like about Hillary is her low self-esteem, I’m not good dealing with that, 95 % of the book and she is so “Happy and amazed that he chose her!” like she does not deserve it or something. With that being said, I will recommend this book as a filler.
3.5ish -4 This little book was fairly light and fluffy. I flove werewolf books. I'm not gonna lie. I'll be re-reading this puppy. The author is such a good storyteller. There were a few things that would have made this book even better, like...letting that final scene play out with the couple (I'm patting my own back for not using all caps on that one.), SHIFTING (whoops), and an extended epilogue. What I'm saying is more! more! more!
Loved this book. Though, I wish we got to see more of the 'final scene' and Hillary's announcement. I literally devoured it in one day. I cannot wait for Simone and Bull's story.
She's the pack book but so much more and traded to another alpha for a favor. But he's a hot alpha wolf and she's the wolf to take him. Fun and hot shifter book
Quick and cute read. Got a really protective H that's grouchy but couldn't stay away from h and a wonderfully caring and sweet h that's a bit clueless to the H's interests.
It's actually quite cute the way H's so into food, and how much the whole story involves it. Except for the part towards the end where I think h's actions a bit OTT and melodramatic needlessly, I quite enjoy this light and cute read.
World and plot is pretty straight forward and sexy times is done quite well too. All in all, quite an enjoyable read.

This has to be one of my favorite books by this author. I love that the alpha falls in love with the food before ever meeting the chef. He might tell himself that it’s all about the food, but his wolf knows the truth. The author did a great job of bringing the heat, both in the way they clash as they find their path and in the bedroom. It might take a while, but these two find their perfect HEA and it is absolutely delicious.
Another book by Susan Booker that I devoured. Loved Modess and Hillary. The chemistry between them is great! I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.
I have never been disappointed when reading one of Ms. Bliler stories/books. I really have enjoyed reading every one, and this time, she just took off and never slowed down. Action, conflict, self doubt, and the HEA while expected, did not disappoint. And I will not spoil the enjoyment for the next reader. Highly recommended for reading so don't miss any book by this author.
There are some things I really enjoyed about this book. Modess and his backstory about beefing up to become Alpha of his pack so that his sister wouldn't be at the bottom of the hierarchy was perfection. It was such a great way to set up a character and show what type of person he was.
Unfortunately, this book is just riddled with so many continuity errors that it makes hard to really follow and connect with the story and characters.
For example, in the very first scene with Modess, in his internal monologue he mentions how he'd never help Michael, Hillary's pack Alpha, but if he wants to shower him and his enforcers with women and booze, then he'll just take it. But then a page later, he says that he would never drink while visiting a clan he doesn't trust and that he thinks it's disgusting that the women in the Shadow Wolf pack will let themselves be used by visiting males...and that he'd should have just stayed home to have his own beer and women.
And despite his assurances in that scene that he has lots of women whenever he wants at home, near the end of the book, his pack members comment on the fact that they never see him kiss women.....so?
There's also a big deal made about how at the Shadow Wolf pack, the women have to be free with their bodies for the betterment of the pack, which really makes no sense. But Hillary and her friend Simone originally planned to leave the pack over it, so the alpha said they wouldn't have to do it if they took over jobs no one else wanted. Hillary claims that she was forced to take over meal prep, but adds that it worked out well because she discovered that she really loved to cook.....but when she's with the Blood Lust pack later, she tells Modess that her mom had been the cook at her pack before she died and had taught her everything she knows and that she wanted to grow up to be as good a cook as her.
And near the end, Modess "claims" Hillary, but not really? He bites her and says she's claimed and can't go back to Shadow Wolves (why she had any loyalty to that pack, I still don't understand), but then later she offers to be his mate, and he says he doesn't want a woman to offer to be his just out of a sense of gratitude, and he has to chase her down and get her back from the Shadow Wolves, and then he bites her again to "really" claim her.
The author also sometimes mixes up the names of the packs, and once described Hillary's eyes as green, but Modess was the one with green eyes. At the "claiming sex" she seems to have forgotten that the characters have already had sex more than once and done oral. And don't even get me started on that ridiculous peanut butter and jelly sandwich scene. I still don't know what the heck was going on there.
So, did I like his? Yeah, kind of. But if it had been decently edited, I think it could have been much better. There are some good characters here, and a good basis of a story, it just needs cleaned up.
Between 2-3 stars for me. Not bad, but nothing that really stands out, and not quite what I was expecting. A strong OK, but still just OK.
A tale of "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach." Hillary (h) is the cook for her pack. Modess (H) is the alpha of another pack, visiting to discuss a trade alliance of sorts between the two packs. He's so impressed by Hillary's cooking, that he agrees to Hillary's alpha's requests for enforcers and training in exchange for Hillary to come and teach his own pack cooking skills. They fight their attraction, but eventually give in. The book is more about them building their relationship than about any big supernatural adventures.
One of the least SPN of SPN romances I've read. I think we only see one character shift, there's no fated mate attraction, no pack magic... The mating bite is kinda it. The next closest we get is that they are organized into packs and feel the emotions of their inner wolves from time to time. Oh, and her heat cycle. Which is just being horny. But I mean, one of h's closing thoughts was that "magic does exist." Umm, if you occasionally transform into a wild animal, why are you marveling at that? It's a fact of your life, not something that you should be questioning or surprised at. It makes me wonder why she even wrote this as a SPN romance, except that if it was a generic contemporary romance, then the whole position-swapping trade would have been harder to bring about. So pack politics it was. Still, it was pretty normal, rather than paranormal.
The characters were pretty flat. I liked the set-up and the focus on food, but other than that, there really wasn't much to set them apart. Modess was grumpy and got around and frankly skirted into alphahole territory from time to time, while Hillary was rather a pushover.
Some editing and proofreading needed. Some of it in the technical details - names, word choice, that sort of thing. Some of it just for flow. There were parts that were choppy or could have used some more details or fleshing out. As it was, it left some scenes a little confusing.
Alternating 3rd person POV. No love triangle nonsense or cheating. Some self-inflicted drama, especially building toward the end. A cute set-up but underwhelming follow through. Not bad, just mindless escapism with a slight veneer of the supernatural, no real magic. HEA and no cliffhanger.
Would I read more from this author? Maybe. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really a gripping or standout read for me. Maybe if it's another free Kindle find, I'll give her another chance.
It was ok, not a lot of shifting or even much about the lore. Not bad, no cheating or long separations or ow/om drama but fell a bit flat. The h couldn't make up her mind if she was a strong bad-ass or a timid mouse. The was all growly but not real alpha she-is-my-woman-and-she's-mine. It felt like the set up was there for plots to go in a certain direction and then just nothing. Like why did Henry behave the way he did and why was there no confrontation? It was just about the characters but not much happens then she runs off he comes to get her they figure out their stuff in 2 minutes then bang epilogue. It had potential but didn't satisfy. Also, some inconsistencies pulled me out of the story a couple of times for instance the h is called by the sisters name during one scene, her eyes are described as grey but when she's been made-up for photos her eyes are green, lastly she describes herself as small-chested but later the H is drooling over her huge boobs. Nit-picky I know but noticable.
This book was artfully crafted and uniquely designed to pull you into the pages where secrets and fairytales live and dreams come true for those who believe!
This book was enchanting, enthralling and endlessly entertaining where stubbornness and determination to rise above conflict with a core of steel to get to where love and happiness lives! You're gonna love reading this amazing story that will transport you into the world of shifters who find their ONE and gift them with the love and happiness that they deserve!!!
So, I enjoyed this book..as long as I overlooked the problems. Name mistakes, he chews tobacco, some tiny parts seemed unfinished, and there were parts that were confusing. The worst was when the main male character acted, and it seemed like he wa going to tape the main female character. He definitely touched her when he shouldn't have. And he when he gave the main female oral sex, it was later mentioned as being the first time when it wasn't. I'm pretty sure another time something like this happened too.

Love all of your books from Skin Walkers to Territory. Although Bad Beta is my favorite. This story is similar to Bad Beta in the respect that the h is a strong woman making the best of a less than perfect life. The H is a strong alpha male who has fought his way to the top in order to protect his family. The supporting characters leave you hoping that Susan will write stories for them...especially Bull and Simone.
I mostly snickered while reading this. It’s very high on manufactured drama using lack of communication (a favorite plot device by this author). It’s entertaining in that daytime soap opera way. The title is a double entendre for her being a good cook (she cooks for the pack) and because the alpha wants her. I found it weird that they don’t seem to recognize that their mates. It’s an easy mindless zero angst read.
Love the name MODESS that's a great name for an Alpha beast. I could put this book down it had me getting 3 maybe 4 hours of sleep. I work an 8-5 and talk about interacting with ppl all day. Dammmyyy I was tired but this book was well worth. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. WHO'S NEXT AND HURRY UP!!!!
Although this is a paranormal book it’s isnt heavy on the paranormal which opens it up for anyone to read. It’s a stand-alone and it’s all out the relationship of the main couple, how they meet, get to know each other and find their way over the obstacles in their paths. It’s and intresting storyline and a great easy read.
I am guilty for a hate to love kinda book and these one is SOOO one of them, I like how she was given as a cook in exchange for trading and helping her pack (which sucks cuz her pack just ain't that good) but the the oh yummy alfa wants her and gives her a good fight but let her choose and not take what he wants. Deff on that will be on my kindle for a reread
I read this in one sitting ( yep no housework got done ) I love the Alpha males and can't wait for the second book ( if there is one ) five stars all the way . Worth every penny
They always say a way to a man's heart is threw his stomach and being a beautiful , curvy red head doesn't hurt. This book brings together one Alpha and one chief and ends in mating. Good book , I enjoyed the whole story.
Growly, possessive, surly. The makings of a classic Alpha. Loved the main characters, would have loved to have seen all the back story etc explored a bit more thoroughly. But a good story and I hope for more books in the series.
I started reading the shape shifter stories. This is my first wolf by this author. I liked the characters but would have enjoyed more action. More interplay with the pack. What happened to Henry and why was he so mean to the females.
Great book. I can’t put it down. Love the characters in this book. There was just the right amount of drama and misunderstanding in this book. Just wished there was more
Love these characters, wasn't ready for this book to end.
Modess is so much a big, bad Alpha. While she is not use to speaking up for some reason she mouths off to him. A couple of grammatical errors but they do I not take away the story.
