“THE WAR OF JOKES AND RIDDLES” part four! War is hell. Unless it’s in Gotham City, where it’s so much worse. The clash between The Joker and the Riddler continues to escalate, with the rest of the city’s villains picking sides and joining in. In the midst of the battle, Batman must try to save whoever he can while knowing he will forever be haunted by those he can’t.
Amazing, but I am getting used to it all. I love how Batman is just an obituary page in this war. He did stop Deadshot and Deathstroke after five days, but otherwise he has been utterly useless so far. Tom King gave us another scene of early romance between Batman and Catwoman, he is really selling this relationship that he prefers to all of us. Just amazing work really and the artist is consistently good, when there are problems, they are usually from Tom King himself not the artists lol
No, I don't want to see Gordon in undies. I want to experience the war between Joker and The Riddler. No, I don't want to see Deadshot and Deathstroke in fabulous fighting and sniping poses, I want to see that five-day non-stop fight. No, I don't want to see Catwoman and Batman having a pep talk inside someone's house, in the bedroom having an aftersex dialogue, I want to see how Batman is desperately saving the city. This is a very poor narrative style Tom King is doing. Yes, it may have perfectly worked in Mister Miracle, but not here in Batman.
"Come in your undies", written in lipstick, on a dead body... If that's not the most Joker-ish thing ever, I don't know what is :')
I wonder where's Harley at that point. Is she still Harleen the psychologist? Or is she avoiding this war all together because of her puddin' and her actual true love being in opposite teams? Give me something, King!
Gordon's at his wits end. Two of the deadliest assassins are going head to head with all of Gotham in the crossfire. When Batman finally lets loose, it'll be a miracle if either of them live through it!
Você realmente se sente lendo um gibi de guerra quando lê essa saga, as mortes, a destruição, o medo, a tensão, a falta de esperança... Ah, e os dois maiores mercenários da DC saindo na porrada, tem coisa melhor ? Não, não tem.
Batman #28 may very well be the worst issue of Tom King‘s run so far. Despite giving some interesting developments for “The War of Jokes and Riddles” storyline, the lack of progression and sloppy narration makes it hard to enjoy this latest instalment. The visual side of the book is, on the other hand, as sensational as ever, with this hopefully being nothing more than a minor blip in what will be remembered as an enjoyable story arc.
Joker: And The Lord said onto John: "Come forth and you shall have eternal life." But John came fifth and won a toaster." Riddle & Co: "You're locked in a room with nothing but a table in a mirror. How do you get out? In the mirror… ... you see what you saw. Get the saw. You cut the table in half. Now, you put the halves together. Two halves make a whole. You go into the hole… ... and come out the other side."
I really just want this Joker/Riddler War to be over with! This is just dragging on and on and it just isn’t very good. I don’t care about seeing Gordon in his underwear. The whole city is under siege and some of the worst villains have taken up with either Joker or Riddler, yet there are no heroes present other than Batman, and even he’s more concerned about shlupping Catwoman!!! This doesn’t even feel like a Batman comic at this point.
Deathstroke vs. Deadshot. That's pretty much it. Artwork is great and if you like these two assassins, there's a big chance you'll like this issue. Just because seeing Deathstroke fighting Deadshot is pretty cool. Unfortunately, the story barely exists, while Tom King returned to his usual awful writing. So...
The War of Jokes and Riddles part 3. The line has been drawn between Riddler and the Joker, but they both want Batman dead. The villains have all taken sides and it's on.
I would have liked to see more of the action that is being alluded to. The overall story is still interesting but it felt there were some missed opportunities in this issue.
