The Book of Bart #2

Bart of Darkness

Rate this book
Bart used to be a demon, but he left that all behind to forge his own path. Become a rogue for the ages. So far, that hasn’t gone according to plan. Without Hell to call home, the ex-demon's evil is wearing off, leaving him with an identity crisis made worse by tagging along on Heaven-sanctioned missions with his goody two shoes angel-in-training friend, Samantha. It's enough to stress out even the best dressed of ex-demons.

So what’s a guy who rocks horns to do but pull a prank? But when it goes sideways, Bart and Samantha uncover a cult that's killing children and sucking up their souls. The ex-demon seizes this opportunity to get back some of that old mojo, because there's an unspoken rule between Heaven and Don't mess with children. Ever.

As Bart unleashes his demonic fury to stop the killings, he stumbles onto the cult’s higher Create a Paradise on Earth, thereby upsetting the balance between Heaven and Hell. Bart wouldn't mind seeing Heaven knocked down a peg or two, but without that balance, the world will fall into darkness. For an ex-demon with conscience issues, that can't happen.

About the author

Ryan Hill

Growing up, Ryan Hill used to spend his time reading and writing instead of doing homework. This resulted in an obsession with becoming a writer, but also a gross incompetence in the fields of science and mathematics. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Ryan has been a film critic for over five years. He lives in Raleigh, NC, with his dog/shadow Maggie. Ryan also feels strange about referring to himself in the third person.

I loved the first book but I had trouble getting into the sequel. I didn't buy the whole “Sam is depressed” plot or was it just a contemplation of Bart's own identity crisis? The whole story tumbled around, I had difficulties to catch on to the “mob top” concept and Jurgen's origin. But some twists were good as they surprised me.
The book also lacked a bit the snarcky but still witty and funny comments that appealed to me in the first book. But it was nice that Bart has grown out of the fart and juvenile jokes.
It might have been me, not reading concentrated enough to get into the story. Nevertheless, it was interesting to see the ex-demon developing a conscience, responsibility for a dog and maybe some day he might get over his car obsession, there is hope...

Bart of Darkness

So I am a lover of paranormal, especially if they are romances. I have Never read a novel/series from a male author. I always thought that they couldn't pull off a good book, sexist, I know. But....I am hanging on every single word Ryan Hill writes!!! I total love this book, and cannot tell you how much I recommend that everyone read it now!! So amazing, witty, sarcastic, and hilarious that I could Not put it down until the very end!!!! Please write faster!!!

Not too bad for a laugh

This was much better than the first Bart in my view. The humour has improved and is not so one dimensional which made the book a fun read. I enjoyed how the characters moved forward from the first book and the supernatural elements were out there and not only part of the story but kinds funny in their own right. A fun read.

A Nice light read with good characters

Mr. Hill base provided a lighthearted and comical story. Alas The plot is roughed in a bit in places. However and. Hill provides fully developed characters that are easy to relate to. I recommend this book

I hope there's another book!

Two good books with potential for more great stories. Subtle humor, alcohol, sex and angels. What could be more fun?!

If you like Good Omens, then you'll love Bartholomew (never Bart). An ex-demon with a....helpful side. Forced into helping a wannabe angel save the world....well, need I say more?
