His protection is her prison…until their hearts cross the line.
Before the Dying, Jordan Wells had never touched a gun. Now she doesn’t hesitate to aim her Ruger at the djinn who catches her foraging for supplies in what she thought was an abandoned ranch house.
She can’t hope to kill the tall, muscular djinn with the piercing blue eyes, only slow him down long enough to escape with her life — and continue her journey to Los Alamos, rumored to be the last remaining human outpost.
Hasan al-Abyad has dealt his share of death, but he’s never killed a woman — even the one who’s just shot him — and he doesn’t intend to start now. What he does intend to do is patiently ferret out Jordan’s secrets — where she’s come from, where she’s going. And why a fascinating, compassionate, sad-eyed beauty such as she hasn’t been Chosen.
As they wrestle with their growing attraction, the kisses they try to deny themselves only grow longer, sweeter, and hotter. But it isn’t long before the other djinn sense he’s harboring a human fugitive, which means there’s only one choice to keep her safe: Let her go.
A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
Jordan has managed to survive quite well for the last few years since The Dying. But rogue Djinn swept through her little enclave and decimated her fellow survivors. She only escaped as she was out on a foraging mission. She hopes to join the other survivors in New Mexico and sets off on the long trek.
But when she stops at what she assumes is an abandoned house in a Djinn free zone, she never expected to meet a certain tall, blue eye Djinn. Especially one who makes her girly bits pay attention!!!
Hasan was not one of the Thousand who had a "Chosen". He has taken part in the cleansing of the humans but has never harmed a woman or a child personally. When he sees Jordan in the house he has acquired, he locks her up until he thinks about what to do with her. She intrigues him and he finds himself trying to spend time with her. But when other Djinn take notice of his "guest" he realises he has to get her away and into the safety of Los Alamos.
But when he follows her to Los Alamos, their secrets are revealed and they have to make a decision on whether to stay together or are they better off apart.
Fabulous book! Hasan is not the perfect hero, more of an anti-hero who intends to atone for his sins. Jordan understands Hasan's place in her heart but also struggles with his past actions. I really can't wait to see what happens next. I'd really love more from this world.
This was another good book in this unusual (to me, anyway) series, although I felt the actual plot line was a little rushed.
But that didn't take anything away from my enjoyment of the complete story, any - not my surprise, when I saw that Hasan was the MC in this book!
I enjoyed Jordan's character, very much - they do say it's the quiet ones you need to watch put for, don't they! Lol
Apparently, the next book in this series is a Holiday Novella, called: 'Illuminated', so it'll be interesting to see what characters will be in it, & how they will add to the overall storyline of the whole series.
On that note, I'll catch you on the flip side, and let you know what I think of it, once I've finished reading it!
This is the last book in the series. It was a great series to read if you like reading about Genies or Djinn's. I did not care at first the they destroyed the Humans all over the world Just so they can have the Planet. But, as you read you get to understand them even if you do not agree with it. the books follow the story line very well. The next book start were the last one left off. The series ended in a nice way it did not leave you wondering what would happen next or why did it end this way. I recommend the series.
Christine Pope’s “Awoken”, Djinn Book #7 is another excellent story in this phenomenal series! I loved reading a wonderful tale that keeps me on the edge of my seat. Christine has the ability to develop characters that makes you wonder what you would do if you were in a similar situation. But most of all I loved the way Christine developed the Djinn race and how they utilized their individual elemental powers. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
I can’t say enough about this story. I really enjoyed this book. Hasan was one Djinn who detested the humans and thrived on ridding the world of the remaining Immune until Jordan Wells stumbles into his domain. Jordan Wells is the last remaining survivor from Colorado stumbling her way to Los Alamos the human compound protected from the evil djinn. The 2 connect and the change is remarkable.
Awoken (The Djinn Wars Book 7) by Christine Pope. Jordan had managed to dodge all the Djinn so far and was making her way to Los Alamos when she stops off at a house to rest and hopefully stock up her supplies. Unfortunately the house belonged to a Djinn and he found her there. At first he kept her a prisoner but gradually he began to thaw towards her and gradually they fall in love but there are a few bumps in the road.
I didn't feel that there was much of a plot to this one, and it seems that the writing is being more rushed. Pope is an excellent writer, but I just think she is writing too many books too rapidly to fully develop them.
Wow what an epic ending story of this great after effect tale of a time when man was destroyed for his potential destruction of earth. A tale of perseverance and continuation of life
I feel like I've read this before. This book feels like the author took the last book, sprinkled in some scenes from other books in the series and wrapped it up in a new title, hoping no one would notice. It was dull, boring and unimaginative. I had a lot of trouble finishing this book, but I did and feel like I could have spent my time in much better ways.
Also, something on my mind since the early books: 1) Really, Los Alamos is the ONLY place left on earth with humans. That seems pretty unlikely to me and a missed opportunity to have the humans try to reach each other across the globe. That would spice up the stories. 2) Furthering that last thought, the series is called 'Djinn Wars', there isn't really much war going on, no major conflicts, no fighting back, etc. More survivors across the globe could have done something about that.
The best series, I loved all of the books . I read up to book 9 & would love to finish the series but, don't have money in the budget to buy the rest.😞😭
Wow, this series is riveting from the first book to the last page of the last book - Awoken.
I was really impressed with Christine's writing style, characters and storyline. I mean, who is to know if this will/could actually happen!
I think that the only problem I had (minor really) was that I had to look up all of the places on google maps as I live in New Zealand and haven't had the pleasure of visiting the USA. :(
Anyway, I loved the book and definitely recommend it to all.
I can't wait for whatever series comes next, or, even stand alones!
