lots of good info in here, and it’s divided up into nice little sections that are easily digestible. however I could have done without the sexism, why was there sexism in this book about cats ???

It was an alright book. The author made the same jokes multiple times, which started to wear on me. It's very informative, but I would recommend using it as a reference instead of reading it all the way through.

Some of the information is a little "ahead of it's time". In 2008, sources weren't available to support some of the claims that were made (like the claim that feral and wild cats were infecting otters with toxoplasma gondii), but there is now evidence that supports those claims.

Overall, she does a great job of providing reputable information in small, digestible chunks.

I like that this book has new information even for someone like me, who loves cats and knows a lot about them. I appreciate that the author supports adoption and explains to any doubters why should they fix their cat. And why it's better to have a cat that is indoor only.

It's a good book for anyone, who wants additional info about cats, and for people who consider getting a cat, because it offers vital information for your happy life together. It's easy to get the info you want, because the book is divided into chapters about specific theme and it's all written as questions and answers.

I took one star down, because sometimes, I wasn't comfortable with her jokes. She tries writting happy light informative reading about cats, but sometimes, she tried too hard with the jokes and it was bordering on offensive. The other thing that didn't suit me was her overusing numbers, like I don't need to have exact stats for what you're saying... But I know that some people like that kind of info, so you might be fine with that.

Anyway, overall I can recommend it, it's good and informative.

Finally, the truth about cats is out of the bag!

If cat lovers are from Venus, then cats hail from another planet altogether. Mischievous and aloof one moment, affectionate the next, the cat is a confounding creature right down to its question mark of a tail. What cat owner hasn't wondered what goes on inside that mysterious kitty brain? In this companion to It's a Dog's Life... But It's Your Carpet, veterinary specialist Dr. Justine A. Lee answers your questions about all things feline in this entertaining and enlightening guide. An animal lover with two cats of her own, Dr. Lee combines scientific research with irreverent humor to address questions ranging from the common to the offbeat, including:

-Do cats always land on their feet?
-Can I train my cat to use the toilet?
-Do cats have belly buttons?
-How do I stop my cat from begging for food at 5:45 A.M?
-Can cats really predict death or cancer?
-How can I make my antisocial cat more social?

Dr. Lee also shares helpful hints on what to look for in a veterinarian. (Helpful Hint #1: Find a veterinarian who owns a cat.) She also reveals what every veterinarian wants you to know about being a smart consumer and pet owner. With tips on dealing with kitty's more irksome behaviors (yes, she has some), advice on looking out for her health and well being, and plenty of laughs, It's A Cat's World...You Just Live In It helps cat owners love and understand their quirky feline companions more than ever.

Justine A. Lee DVM, DACVECC, is an emergency and critical care veterinary specialist and is the associate director of veterinary services for Pet Poison Helpline. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care(DACVECC). The author of It's A Dog's Life...But It's Your Carpet, she is one of approximately 240 board certified specialists in emergency and critical care worldwide.

I don't want to completely knock this, because I've heard Justine Lee on the radio and been impressed with her advice, but this is an awkwardly presented book. It's not like you can read the book from cover to cover, as it's mainly laid out in question (and short) answer form, which makes for some repetitive reading if you are going cover to cover. The author has a light touch to her answers but the joking tone got to be annoying as well. The other problem I had with this is the somewhat haphazard organization of the book. Some effort was made to loosely give it some structure but it doesn't seem to make much sense. It's a shame because I think there are some good things in there (especially about litter boxes, obesity and general cat health). Still, I definitely wouldn't recommend spending money on buying a copy, if you can get it from the library it's good for casually paging through and reading whatever strikes your fancy.

If there’s anything you want to know about cats, It’s A Cat’s World…You Just Live In It is the book to get. It has 224 questions and answers by Justine Lee, a veterinarian who has cats of her own. I liked how she throws in some humor into her answers and her love for cats come through.  I loved her last sentence:

"We should all learn an important life lesson from our cats--take lots of catnaps, don't stress out, rule the roost, let someone else take care of you and pick up your crap, and be content with the simple things in life--a nap, a sunbeam, and a warm lap to love."

This is a great reference book and an enjoyable read for any cat lover!

I really enjoyed this book and it was an easy read. It answered some of the questions that I've kind of wondered but never asked my vet.
I always thought that my Orange and White male cats were really outgoing and I was right. It answered some basic questions as to why my cat break out in a 50 yard dash across my apt everyday. Why my cat loves cat grass or he will chow down on my house plants. I too will sacrifice my spider plant if he doesn't have any grass.
I just like her witty but not to serious presentation of the book.

Thanks to those of you who suggested this book. This is a very informative book for people who are new to cats and people who think they are experts (like me). I was especially interested in the top 10 toxic household products and the top 10 toxic plants. Also, the part about looking for signs of illness in you cat was very helpful. The author has some strong opinions about how many cats you should own which I disagree with, but overall it is a must read for everyone who loves cats.

This was pretty funny. It was eye-opening to read that the silly things my cat does like "barking" at birds that fly around outside and following me into the bathroom everyday, are actually normal things that cats do. It makes me love them even more! haha Justine is clearly a knowledeable person and she cracked me up!

Breezy intro cat guide. Probably not informational enough to serve as a reference book for first-time cat owners, and I disagree pretty strongly with its advice re: feeding/nutrition. There are some funny anecdotes, but I wouldn't consider this an essential read.

Fun to read, great for those new to cats and for veteran owners. The author does focus on big company foods and is biased towards them, with specific mentions (sponsors?)

Otherwise great information from the serious to the silly.

It's nonfiction, it's writing tries just a tad too hard to be "clever", but it answers some cat questions I had. That's all I can say about it.

Sehr schöner Ratgeber für Katzenliebhaber, -Einsteiger und alte Hasen. Man erkennt immer wieder Geschichten, die einem auch schon mit seinen Schmusetigern passiert ist.
