After watching his wife die in his arms, former police detective Lincoln Hill never forgot the promise he whispered to her as she drew her last breath. The promise to find their missing daughter, Emma Hill. The daughter he’d never known. The daughter being held captive by a powerful man serving his first term as the mayor of London, England.
Determined to get his daughter back—with more rage in his veins than blood—Linc snatches the mayor’s wife, Mia Ali, at a fundraising event for his re-election campaign. Linc’s terms are straightforward: Emma for Mia. A simple exchange.
At least, it had felt simple.
It had felt simple until he laid eyes on Mia’s gorgeous face for the first time. Until he laid hands on her supple, voluptuous body. Until she laid her hands on his body too—a body that hadn’t been touched by a woman in six long years—lighting fire to his skin with the softness of her warm, nimble fingers. Lighting fire to every inch of him until his bones nearly melted away with the burning need to be inside her.
No matter how beautiful his captive, however—or how deep the attraction—Linc refuses to get addicted to the ebony goddess he’s snatched.
When it comes time to make the exchange, losing Mia is the only option…
Or it might be a fight to the death.

CAPTIVE is an interracial romance and can be read as a standalone novel.
I'm fascinated by deeply flawed people in impossible situations, and insane people who don't know they're insane. Perfection puzzles me, so my characters are always just a little bit evil--whether they know it or not!
I couldn't put into words how ready I was to read Linc's story. I fell in love with him in the Quiver series and wanted--no--NEEDED to know where Trevion would take him next.
So as I started reading and reading my excitement kind of dulled and I hate that I couldn't love this as much as I really wanted to. I know I'm going to be in the minority here. I'm not saying this wasn't a good book but... let me explain.
The Linc that I grew to love to pieces, just wanted to climb his 6'5" tree of a body and cuddle into his massive bulging arms, he seemed to have disappeared in the earlier part of this book. He was a man on a definite mission to get his daughter Emma back by any means necessary. Where things left off with him, he had single-handedly killed his rapist of a father and the 9 men who brutally raped his best friend Veda Vandyke. So that would leave any man a hardened shell, no room for softness. That I understood, but it seemed my focused Linc was replaced with a man who was very suddenly aware of his celibate penis and all it took was peeping in on the woman he was going to kidnap as leverage to get his daughter back.
I have serious misgivings supporting a woman falling for her kidnapper. The conundrum here was that I earnestly loved Lincoln Hill and wanted good things for him. Why I grew to care more for him as a character and romantic interest for Veda was because he fell for her slowly, it was a process, and he wasn't obsessed with getting her naked as fast as humanly possible. That side of Linc went out the door when it came to Mia.
Mia to me was an amalgam of other female characters Ms. Burns has written about. Her background mirrored that of Celeste's, Gage's mother, trafficked at a very young age, sold and bought by a sadistic man. At times Mia reminded me of Lila from the Almeida brothers' series in that she was seemingly almost always having a wardrobe malfunction like Lila. Mia also made me think of Carmen from Encore in that her beauty and her social skills had catapulted Malik into becoming Mayor of London, just like Carmen was Yoshi's fake girlfriend to help with album sales. There was also a pinch of Nina from Lightning Strikes where Nina enticed Jack to go skinny dipping, Mia did the same thing with Linc, only, they went swimming in a canal in Venice. There were just a lot of instances in this book that were scenes from previous novels by Ms. Burns. I'm glad that Mia wasn't a Veda 2.0 but I also wanted her to be a character I haven't read about before. So that was kind of a letdown for me. I didn't dislike Mia but I didn't really care for her, either.
Did I like the relationship between Mia and Linc, not really. I was definitely more interested in Linc being united with his daughter. When it happened I saw old Linc and reading the joy and love that was so pure between he and Emma made a big ole goofy grin spread across my face. Like, yes finally!
Of course I loved reading about Linc being reunited with Veda, Grace, and seeing him interact with Gage for the first time with the both of them fully aware they are family. To see those two go from locking horns over Veda to hugging the oxygen out of each other's lungs was priceless. Those moments were golden and I honestly do thank Ms. Burns for that.
Welp, this series has now been put to bed. Everyone has earned his or her respective HEA, and despite my faves Veda and Linc not being more than family through marriage, I'm satisfied that a man who was so tortured and alone came out on top with family and most importantly love.
This book read like a song playing with needle getting stuck on the LP. I didn't like many of the tones the author chose. Linc is a grown man who hasn't had sex in 6 years by choice; yet, he was portrayed like a prepubescent rather than a man with control of his libido. This was insulting, cliché, and a demonstration of lazy writing. Mia just saw Linc's picture a couple of hours ago; yet, she didn't recognize him right away. COME ON, REALLY. Why would he say "my daughter" to Malik? Why was he so unprepared for Mia? He was going have her captive for days knowing she would be wearing evening wear; but, he didn't have any clothing for her? REALLY!!! How were they found at the safe houses? Linc didn't even check for a tracker on the car. Why call Malik while you were still at the location he is aware of? Why leave the picture that Emma drew where it could be found by Malik's goons? Linc has sex and it's like he is infused with truth serum. Why tell of a friend in London? Why name your family and tell of their whereabouts? You tell all of that once you secure possession of your daughter. Yes, Linc is a man; but, he is former police detective who should have not made so many tactical errors. Why swim naked in dirty water where you are in public and unarmed? What was the point of Malik bringing Emma before the snake? Why would Linc wait so many days for the switch leaving his daughter in the hands of the man he repeatedly angers? Why would you give Mia a gun when returning her to Malik? How is she supposed to explain not shooting Linc? What was the reunion like when Mia and Malik saw one another?
The story would have been more balanced and interesting if it was revealed how Linc's safe house locations were discovered. If there were more ranting from Malik. Was Emma returned to her room after she shown the snake? Was she alone? What were her thoughts after Malik's attempt to further brainwash her?
Emma was awesome. Her spirit was astonishing. I loved that Linc was willing to discipline her.
Linc was not one to initiate a teasing moment so why would he start with revealing his knowledge of Veda's crimes in mixed company. Again, I think the author was not true to his character and took the easy way to instigate a conflict between Gage and Veda. What would have been more authentic is if he overheard Hope and Veda talking about since they talk about in public and private places. Loved the Big brother little brother moments. I loved the insta-bond between Emma and Grace. The wedding was nice closure to the series; but, a double wedding with Emma as a flower girl and Lincoln as a ring barer would have been better. However, the beach scene with the missing child flyer was perfection.
Lincoln Hill's story is nothing short of riveting. I was on the edge the entire time I read this book. It basically read like a movie, which btw, I totally think this story along with Veda Vandyke and Gage Blackwater's stories should be made into a movie. Awesome stuff. Trevion Burns is an excellent writer. The storyline is pretty heavy duty, dealing with human trafficking, but with that comes a story of survival and love. Linc is on a mission to get his daughter Emma back. The child he didn't even know about until his finally found his wife, Lisa only to lose her tragically. He made it his mssion to get his 5-year old daughter back by any means necessary and he was going to do it by kidnapping Mia Ali, the mayor's wife and Emma's captor. Little did Linc know that Mia is also a prisoner in Malik Ali's sick and twisted world. She becomes his hostage and what happens next is one hell of an adventure. We know Linc is going to reunite with Emma, but at what cost? How will they live happily ever after when he's one of America's Most Wanted for the 10 murders he committed there and is Mia going to be a part of this future? Will he reunite with Gage and Veda too? Read this book! The answers are all in it.
This story was so interesting . Mia, Linc and Emma kept me interested. Malik was definitely a nut job. To the author you are certainly an excellent, keep them interested AUTHOR.. THANK YOU
Trevion wrote the hell out of this book. The explosive drama had my heart pounding so hard I had to stop reading it a couple of times so my blood pressure could returned to normal.
This book was well thought out and executed. It held my attention from beginning to end. The author wrote a story about the affects that human trafficking has on its victims from the very youngest to the oldest, as well as the affects its has on their loved ones left behind. I
Lincoln Hill is an ultimate alpha of alphas. Once he gets something on his mind, there is nothing that will stop him. This was seen in Trevion's Revenge Series where Lincoln was a detective. He made a vow to his dying wife and he was determined to honor that vow by any means necessary.
Mia Ali was a victim of human trafficking and stuck in an abusive, loveless marriage. Marriage to a monster who bought a child to train for his own pleasure. The only thing that gave her hope was Emma. When she was kidnapped, that event gave her the hope that she could have freedom, freedom to love who she wanted on her own terms.
I was so glad to read that Lincoln finally got his HEA. A happily ever after that was stolen from him. Trevion even wrote the epilogue with thought and was well done and not just an after thought like some seem to be.
What a way to end this series. Linc is such a conundrum. Physically he's a hard but to crack, but underneath it all he is complex, yet loving. To have an intriguing woman like Mia was what he needed in his next great love. He got a daughter so much like himself, but he knows how to keep her in line. We had a chance to get the wedding for Veda and Gage. Yes!!!! Now if you would be so kind to grace us with a book from the other bad ass in this read, Mr. Jason O'Malley, I would be ecstatic. I wish that they could've reached out to Mia's parents so that she could have given them closure. That has to be hard on parents, the not knowing. A few clerical and grammar errors, but I'm no English professor. The book was still good afternoon!
Captive is a wonderful book on it's own, but as the conclusion to the Revenge series it's beyond words. Thank you Trevion you NEVER disappoint which is why I never need a synopsis for any of your books . All I ever need is a link to 1 click purchase
Only took me 4 months to read the book of my favorite character from one of my favorite series. It’s only 3 am. I’m not alive but it’s fine.
It’s 3 am so I guess brutal honesty is the only way to go. It pains me to write ANY upset review EVER but especially this one ugh. I hate upsetting people.
I was soooooooooo excited for this book. I remember my obsession with thks series and waiting for each book to come out one by one. Linc being my favorite character EVER in the series, I was so flipping excited for him to get his own book. His own HEA.
Tbh I wasn’t HUGE on the idea of him ending up with anyone but Veda in the first place, like since the very beginning, so I already was somewhat wary going in. But that has nothing to do with my wariness leaving really.
This book disappointed me for the sole reason of a large (very large) portion of it being about nothing but Linc being a little boy going through puberty all over again. About sex. About getting a hard one every chance given. About yeah, any other way to put that. So. I wasn’t here for it, and I felt my favorite character was cheated. Because I was wishing for so much more.
Not to mention I hate insta-love with all the life that runs inside me. And Linc :) was a product :) of insta love :) in this story. Which is so UNLIKE the character that’s been built up for him in the past 7(¿) books he’s been in. But it’s fine. Really it is.
I’m sorry but he held her hostage. They basically wordlessly had sex without having sex for days and weeks or whatever. And a significant time was when she stabbed him in the neck of course and.. other things. And then they had a mini talk, realized y’know the common factor being Emma and then everything was jolly between them and they actually have sex any chance they can get. Linc spouts off his life story bc he now trusts her with his life. And then.. ladies and gents.. couple of days (literally¿) later, he trades her. Realizes he loves her.
THat is why I didn’t finish what I thought would be my favorite book ever until 4 months later. Why my kindle stayed on airplane mode as to keep the only book in library that I had left on a KU subscription I canceled (shhh)(lol I was ready to give up the subscription but not give up and pay $5 for a book I wasn’t even happy reading). Because I simply lost interest and could not make myself finish. And anyways finally finished from my 70% tonight and here we are.
Let us not sleep on that ending though. Pretty dramatic and.. abrupt.. but what I WAS here for was the reunion, Linc being a dad, rescuing Mia, Linc being a dad, the reunion, Linc being Linc, Linc. Gage and Linc being brothers and bonding. Linc. I wish there was much more family time than 1% but at least I had it to cheer up my opinion on the book.
In the end, nothing can make me hate Linc as a character and therefore Trevion still won. So that’s that.

1st time reading from this author. The book was just okay for me. I understand that it's the last book in a series and that it's a stand alone. My main and only problem was that it was to much 'thought-thinking-about-situations,' and not enough actual Witty Conversations, Sexy talks and just couple's conversations. The characters thought about a situation so much before making an actual Move that I found myself actually skipping ahead on several occasions. I ordered and downloaded the first 2 books from this series but I'm going to put them on the back burner and read some awesomely witty Pepper Pace to get myself in the mood before I come back to this series. This book frustrated me so badly that it actually took me a month to finish it because I just didn't want to read those drawn out thoughts.
What a finale!!! My heart was beating out of my chest at every turn of the pages...Linc made hard choices to set his child free....even if it meant kidnapping the Mayor of London's wife..at least that was the plan....Mia became the bargaining chip...Mia for Emma...that was the plan...well best laid plans have a way of becoming a series of memorable moments...none of which Linc saw coming...nail biting...pulse pounding...erotic sensual pleasures abound....more importantly...Linc finally got some..Veda and Gage marries...Linc and Mia and Emma survived the evil clutches of Malik...and snake...
I was so excited for this story of the man who has been with Veda throughout ALL of the Revenge series and you Ms. Burns have done him justice. He was still bad ass as we've known him to be, shoot to me he was even more bad ass in his own story. He found a love of his very own AND got his baby. Linc is THE man. Was also glad we were given a "before the closure" of Veda and Gage. Ooh and I just loved, loved LOVED the "brothers" meeting as "brothers" for the first time...what about the big brother pep talk? Priceless. This series was already fabulous and Linc's standalone made it even MORE fabulous. Thank you Ms. Burns.....keep em coming.
I did not want to read Ms burns revenge series. I'm sure they were good. I didn't want to invest the time. I do believe that Captive picks up the story of one of the main characters in the revenge series, Lincoln Hill. Not to give anything away, this book is a perfect stand alone if your not interested in reading the series. It's romantic action packed suspense at its best. And I love that there was no long drawn out monologue with Malik...he was dealt with quickly. There were some grammatical errors but because this book ended my summer reading on a good note..Ms Burns gets a free pass. This time.
Even though I have read other books by MS. Burns, I must say that at every turn, for every story, the feeling is different yet the awesomeness the same... Once again, MS. Burns you have showed us so many aspect of what is actually happening in real life while we are all gobbled up in our own little bubble, "stuff" is happening to other parts of the world or even right down the street from us... MS. Burns, has again captured everything in on swift, from being parents, child kidnapping, children missing, parents of missing children, child trafficking as well as human trafficking, then the usual boy meat girls, and boy loves girl, then you have your true alpha male where you would want to have your own "Linc"... This was truly a wonderful book that I had the pleasure of reading it in a 24 hour timeline Thank you MS. Burns
I loved the book from beginning to end. Lincoln was no one to mess with. I just loved him. I loved that there was so many surprises. I just wanted to know. How did Malik keep finding out where Lincoln and Mia were.
I didn't like how Malik had Emma watch while that snake Princess killed that man. But l understand why Lincoln shot Malik so many times.
For the taking of his wife off that ship and time he missed with his daughter Emma.. great book... For years never gave up looking for Emma. Lincoln is something else. He is so huge.
It was finally Lincoln Hill's turn and I'd been eagerly looking forward to it, yet somehow, it took me a long time to get into this book after starting it. I guess I was looking for the "Veda Vandyke" levity, but Linc was all seriousness. So it took me a while. When it finally jumped off and Linc went into Khal Drogo mode, I was ecstatic! There was chemistry between him and Mia, but the underlying tragedy that was their lives overshadowed. All said, I enjoyed this book and will continue to read anything Trevion Burns.
So I think I was supposed to read the serial before this book. Captive is Linc's story and things are mentioned that happened prior that readers are supposed to be privy to. Despite jumping into this book blind I had no issues following the plot. I liked the characters, the plot and the romance. Mia was no wilting flower. I will say my only issue was with the author's writing style. It took some getting used to. She liked to use the word orbs alot when describing a characters eyes. It was odd. I enjoyed Caotive enough to go back and read the previous books in this series
Excellent such a wonderful, nerve racking, end to a brilliant series
It was so befitting to end on the note that this series has, even the last pages I was holding my breath. I loved everything about this book, I literally could not put it down. This is a must read for all fans of the series but can be read alone. I would strongly recommend that you read all the revenge series to get the full impact and pleasure of reading the conclusion to the series.
Linc deserved to find his HEA. And a woman who also had as much of a heavy past as him, to be able to understand a guy who is a brooder with a lot of anguish that he carries in the inside. I could have read more pages as I would have liked to read more on the relationship between him and Gage, getting closer. I read this book sometime ago, just forgot to write a review. Loved, loved this book.
I am heartbroken that the series has ended but what a great way to go! My heart was racing as I could not stop reading, excellent writer and one of the best series I have read in a long time...It stands alone but I would run not walk to get and read the entire series. I love Linc and I am so glad he got his own amazing story!
I enjoyed this book , not what I was expecting at all , but very good non the less. Looking forward to your next book I enjoy the excitement of the unexpected. I'm thinking the next book will be about the guy O'Malley who's looking for his son and who probably will ask LINC to help him at some point. Great job.
A promise made and a promise kept. I love the dedication of Linc to finding his love that was stolen from him. He was on a mission, dedicated, relentless and he found love again unexpectedly. A life was saved and retribution was delivered. A family was reunited and a new beginning.
This was a an okay read. There wasn't much depth or intricacy to the story. It was kind of full of cliches that had my eyes rolling at times. Some of the plot points was a little to convenient and everything fell into perfect place. This wasn't anything spectacular but it was nice to see Lincoln get his HEA.
not bad, nicely wrapped up. bit longer than necessary. some factual/architectural/geographical errors i could easily dismiss. please authors remember to check spelling and grammar, because that is just annoying. so ,only 4 stars. still worth the time and fairly satisfying!!!
I didn’t exactly feel the love between Linc and Mia. It felt more like they were victims of circumstance, desperation, and lust. I’m happy that they eventually developed genuine feelings, got married, and found their HEA but like many of the other important scenes, that moment was skipped in the narration. 3.5 Stars.
This book was good but not as good as the original series. More in line with the final book Rouse. Linc is still hot as hell and Mia was an ok alternative to Veda. She was feisty but also a victim of trafficking/abuse. I liked that Linc was reunited with cage and Veda although this easily could have been another book. There’s so much material left to this story.
