After all, finding herself a single mother to twins after her ‘allergic to responsibility’ ex-boyfriend left town has kinda set the bar for whatever might come her way. Except the day-to-day realities of single motherhood has her juggling in a way that she couldn’t anticipate, which is why she's one sleepless night away from a padded cell.
Her unexpected help comes in the form of Michael Whitfield, unrepentant flirt and alleged manwhore. Michael isn’t allergic to responsibility, but he does have a healthy aversion to commitment, until his relationship with Brooke. Their friendship is easy, until it’s not. They learn to walk a tight rope of restraint, choosing not to act on their attraction out of respect for the friendship they’ve built.
One scorching, clothes-free visit past the boundaries they put in place, and Brooke finds herself facing the most uncontrollable situation of all: risking her heart to a man who’s never had to take care of one before.
I appreciate author's attempt trying to portray this male protagonist as not a manwhore, but he still was the one.
I was very disappointed to find out at 73%!!! that he was NOT celibate after he met the heroine.
Pathetic boy tried to convince himself and the world, that he slept with OW (who even left scratches on his back) before he went through heroine's house doors. Lame and untrue, dude, you came to heroine's house 1 year ago, when you helped her to move in, so don't try to play an innocent sheep!!! So, he slept with this OW 1 week before his first babysitting gig and, if I did my math correctly, almost 1 year after he met the heroine.
It would be helpful to get this information during first 15%, and not almost at the end. I would have DNFed and now I rate it low.
I'm not a prude and what he did in the past it's not my concern, but his pathetic attempts to play good boy were ridiculous.
She wasn't my fav too. I abhor when ppl interfere in others' lives and it's what she did in the previous book about her sister.
Cute kids, but lame romance.
This author writes amazing honourable heroes, I hope this 'exception' remains an exception indeed!
Exactly. I never imagined I would see Michael fall like this and with whom! I was a bit surprised by that as I thought it would be someone else.
Brooke and Michael did make sense and it was fun reading about them getting together. It was funny when all the gang got together to help Michael figure out what to do.
There's some drama with Brooke's ex...I didn't really like the way things were handled...or not handled but oh well.
I really loved how Michael stepped up to the plate with the kids...that's always a really sweet surprise.
My first book by this author and I have to say I want to read the previous books in this series.
Brooke was a wild happy women with Italian roots and maybe in the phase of her rebellion stage with her parents, until she got pregnant and her boyfriend of more than two years just walked away. Now she is the mother of twins a boy and girl and raising them alone. She is happy and most of the time she can handle it all. Michael is a flirt and if you asked his friends a bachelor for life. He doesn't do commitments and he doesn't do relationships. Until he volunteers to help Brooke out by looking after the twins. Before long he is hooked on Brooke and helping her building her own hairdresser at her house.
Spending time with Brooke and the kids is becoming more than he thought it would be. Now he can't picture his life without her in it. But will he be able to convince her that he isn't the total man-whore that she thinks he is and that he wants more than just this 'casual' thing they have.
A sweet romance that will keep you reading wanting to find out what happens at the end.
This book was a perfect example of how not to judge a book by its cover! We have gotten to know Michael throughout the Bachelors of the Ridge series and his playboy ways, or so we thought. He just catapulted into my favorite bachelor! So swoon worthy!! And Brooke is his perfect match. So much fun banter, angst, and passion. It is truly a beautiful story!
This is definitely a must read series. Every book is a standalone but they are all so good, so read them all!!
I LOVE Karla's books, but when I found out that Michael had a SINGLE MOM as the heroine I NEEDED this book.
Michael is without a doubt my FAVORITE of Karla's books.
The characters pretty much MADE this book for what it was. The strong sisterly bond between Brooke and Julia, and the friendship between all the guys were admirable. The twins were ADORABLE and stole the scene whenever they appeared. I couldn't get enough of those cuties!!! Brooke and Michael had SUCH amazing chemistry. Whether they were doing playful bantering or...other things. ;) Here's proof why I developed such a MAJOR crush on Michael.
It's my business because I'm one kiss away from falling in love with you.
There were MANY more, but I didn't want to give too much away. I will say that Kevin made me want to bitchslap him or shake him senseless. Either one would work.
When I got to the last page I kept wanting to turn the page even though there wasn't any more, because I didn't want it to end it. *sobs* Afterwards it made me want to go back and read Garrett and Cole, since I haven't read them yet.
I can't wait to read Tristan's book next!!! Especially considering it might be a *gasp* FORBIDDEN story. One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES to read.
I really liked this book. BUT....honestly I totally could have done without the whole "I slept with a "wild" chick" one week before he started going over to the h's house. And to add on to it he describes how she scratched up his back. Really could have done without that. If you're trying to portray Michael as not a "player" then that really wasn't the way to go or the fact that you say I've only been with 15 women in 8 years, but most recently I was with one who causes serious problems between him and Brooke. Other than that I likes how the story played out. Not my favorite out of the bunch but still really liked it.
Michael is so freaking HOT! The flirting he does is unlike anything I've read. This book gave me butterflies, awwwwflies, and hornyflies! Highly recommend!!! Reads super great as a standalone too.
Might have rated 3 stars, but didnt understand why the author gave a three page detailed account of a woman he had slept with before he was with heroine. Why do I need to know she left fingermarks on his back and that they spent four hours together? Just completely unnecessary information!
There’s a lot of useless swearing in this book, used mostly to emphasize emotions and whatnot. I’m not against it but I always feel like authors resorting to lots of swearing couldn’t convey the emotions their characters were supposed to feel properly or something. Which might obviously not be the case but that’s how it comes across at times.
Apart from that, it was a so-so read... it started strong, I liked the heroine’s quick repartee and sarcastic sense of humour but somewhere around the middle she loses that trait and the whole story drags and becomes boring. I skimmed my way through pages after pages (chapters after chapters?) at one point, and I still didn’t miss anything of significance. I liked the happy ending, though it was predictable.
The whole book revolves around their burgeoning love story, which i found to be rather bland. Nothing, basically, happens. No character growth, no creative twist or turn. I don’t get the raving reviews 🤷🏻♀️
Michael (Bachelors of the Ridge book 4) by Karla Sorensen “Assumed playboy meets his match, 5 stars” STOP, SCROLL BACK UP AND ONE-CLICK! You know that saying about assuming things? That is totally relevant when it comes to Michael. Everyone assumes he’s a playboy because he flirts with women constantly. But everyone couldn’t be further from the truth, just because he flirts doesn’t mean he hooks up. Michael takes his job as the lighthearted friend seriously, he doesn’t care to correct people’s assumptions of him because what’s the point? Until he finally gets to know Brooke, then everything changes. He wants to be the kind of man not only she but her kids deserve. Brooke is a single mom raising twins on her own. If you’ve read Cole, you know her as Julia’s sister as well. She is the definition of a feisty Italian woman, I absolutely adored her and her attempt to take on the world on her own. When Michael randomly steps in to help with the kids one day neither of them had a clue it would lead to more. To Michael helping with a project then leading from one area of her life to another. Brooke and Michael fall into an easy love to begin with, but their lack of communication gets the best of them. When Brooke’s ex tries to step in its hard on Michael, because once upon a time he was Brooke’s kids. He was raised by a single mother with an absentee father so it brings back a lot of memories. Can Brooke let down her guard and let Michael in? Will Michael step up to the plate and stay in the game? When Karla told me, Michael was going to be with a single mom I thought okay, we shall see. But holy guacamole! I absolutely loved everything about Michael. You have these two independently strong characters who only become stronger together. You get to see a whole different side of Michael, everyone assumes he’s a player but really at the heart of it he’s a family man. I giggled so much to myself my husband started to get annoyed because he didn’t know what I was laughing at. I marked the crap out of this story, here are a couple pieces that I can’t help but share with you; “Brooke was my ideal woman. The prototype. The kind you search for in vain.” “Snarky and feisty, with a dry humor that made me laugh easily, Brooke didn’t remind me of any other woman I’d ever met. And I liked that about her.” “I’m about to break that no shirt rule. And so are you. We’re going to break it so hard.” “Sometimes it means you stand silently next to her until she needs you to step in and fight with her. Not fight in place of her, you’re fighting by her side.” “Rule number seven. I am always going to be there for you, in any capacity that you’ll allow me. See also- Wine-bringer, hug-giver, kiss-recipient , willing sex slave and partner in life.” Plot- 5/5 Heat- 5/5 Characters- 5/5 Writing style- 5/5 Overall- 5/5 **SBR Reviews**
There aren’t words to express how much I am in love with this book! Honestly I haven’t read the rest of the books in the series yet, although I’m one clicking them all now because this book guys! I adore how Karla’s funny, sassy, adorable personality is portrayed in every word she speaks, it gives her writing this addictively quirky tone that completely immerses you in the story…
Brooke, what can I say about Brooke? I have so much genuine admiration and respect for her. Her twins are the centre of her universe, the unconditional love she has for them is shown in every word she speaks, every action she makes. Then there’s this unbreakable loyalty she has for her big sister, it’s the kind of bond that’s forged between two people that suffered together and it’s given them a unique relationship that no one and nothing can come between. Despite the pain caused by her parents, Brooke will stand up to them to defend Julia and likewise Julia will never let them say a bad word about Brooke; that’s a rare and beautiful bond to discover.
And Michael, ultimate book boyfriend Michael, he’s beautiful and perfect. He’s a protective, kind and generous man. He’s flawed as anyone is but the love and loyalty he expresses to his family and friends left me emotional quite often. Furthermore, the patience, respect and understanding he shows towards Brooke had me wanting to hug him, he was so terrified of burdening her more, again showing the understanding of a child raised in a single parent household. It just really warmed my heart.
This book isn’t really long, I’d say it’s probably an average length for the book genre and I think it’s really important to say that it was very well written, the book felt like the perfect length, nothing was rushed and equally nothing was dragged out to make a longer book. Karla is a genius and I can’t believe this is my first of her books, I’ve been missing out on so much brilliance! I loved, loved, loved (insert infinite more love) this book. Absolute perfection. Easily one of my favourite books of the year and I can’t wait to dive in to more of her books. *Goes to one click rest of the series*
There are few series that I look forward to the next book in the series as much as I do this one! With each novel in this amazing standalone series Karla gives us another unforgettable couple that you immediately want to become besties with and invite over for a BBQ. In Michael my love for this series grows a hundredfold.
We knew from the end of Cole that Michael and Brooke were destined to be Kindle melting, sweet, sexy perfection together it was only a matter of time. And boy, did Karla deliver! The book starts out with a candy analogy that made me gigglesnort and want to smack Michael on the back of the head "like really?!" I mean you can't doubt his logic here but did he really have to put it that way? I won't be able to look at the Brach's Pick a Mix Candy bins the same anymore.
But moving on, this book is tied with Cole for my favorite of the series and not just because the two pair so well together. It's just powerful! I love stories that can hit you right in the feels but Michael hits all of the warm fuzzie moments along with the comedic relief. I'm so glad we got this story to find out that there was so much more to him than we initially got seeing him in glimpses in the other novels.
Btw, I loved Brooke from the first moment I experienced her character . . . I love the brash Italian personality and how strong of a woman she is. . . The brash Italian part reminds me of . . . Wait. . . Someone. . . Yes, me that's right! I knew I would think of eventually! I loved seeing more of her character! (Can we have like 2 more books per couple please?) I'm such a greedy reader when it comes to Karla's books.
The author did an awesome job writing this story. It has everything. From the teasing to the angry, from the flirting to the action, from the brokenness to the heart repair.
“Snarky and feisty, with a dry humor that made me laugh easily, Brooke didn’t remind me of any other woman I’d ever met. And I liked that about her.”
Michael and Brooke are just the best characters ever. Independent, caring, funny and strong. They are just the perfect fit for each other and it makes more and more obvious as you change the pages.
“I’m about to break that no shirt rule. And so are you. We’re going to break it so hard.”
It’s interesting and extraordinary because you get the whole experience with this story. You get to be the characters and feel whatever they are feeling and at the same time you are an outsider watching how these characters have an influence in each other’s life. And the best part is that as an outsider you get to know the rate at what they are falling in love and how it is happening. You, in a way, get to know their fears and their feelings before they do. And while being one of them, your belly is the one with the butterflies. You are the one with the goosebumps as they speak. You are the one working through your fears and trying to figure out what are you feeling.
Oh this book really hit me hard on a personal level because I can relate so much to what Brooke went through with her ex. Been there, done that, I did not want that t-shirt but I wear it proud now. Anyway, this book is a really great friends to lovers tale. Well sorta friends I guess. It was such a chance moment that Michael took and l adored their chemistry right from the start. How Brooke is sassy with him and everything. There are a lot of bumps in their road but they were necessary ones for them I think. Dealing with Michael’s past reputation to dealing with the heartache that Brooke had to endure thanks to the douche ex of hers. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and had a really hard time putting it down. I wanted to know more. It flowed amazingly. This is the first book I have read by this author but I know I will be checking the rest out. I really loved the writing style and character build and the input from side characters. This whole story felt very real and I look for that in books of this nature. Makes you feel like you are watching it play out in front of you. Very much recommend this one!
WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH THE WONDERFULNESS THAT IS MICHAEL AND BROOKE?? WHERRRRRRRREEE????
Let's just start with how natural everything was for them. It wasn't forced. There was no misleading or misdirection or conniving or deception to get them together. It just ... happened. I LOVE THIS. I absolutely adore how natural everything was for the two of them to fall in love.
I love that Michael accepted Brooke. I love he accepted her babies. I love that he is probably one of the best heroes that Karla has written. He just - got it. He knew that her life was difficult, through little fault of her own.
I love that Brooke was able to relax around Michael. She was able to let go of a smidgen of control when he was with her. She silently relied on his strength and he let her do it. It wasn't this "me man you woman we together" caveman kind of thing, either. Like I said, it was completely natural.
I don't think I've ever read a fictional couple more suited for each other than these two.
The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Dylan (Bachelors of the Ridge, #1) Garrett (Bachelors of the Ridge #2) Cole (Bachelors of the Ridge, #3)
This is Brooke and Michael’s story. After her ex-boyfriend left town Brooke is struggling to hold it together while raising twins. When her friend Michael helps it make things easier but the chemistry is out of control. The have fought it since they decided friends. Michael has an aversion to commitment outside of friendships. But with Brooke he might want to try but since he never tried before is it right to try with her in case he fails? Will she be able to teach him how to love and not break her heart in the process? Or is friends all they should ever try to be?
I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Oh, how I love Ms. Sorensen’s books. I was first introduced to her when I read Cole, which then I had to read Dylan and Garrett’s books. Now, we have Michael (who is in the previous books) and Brooke (who is Julia’s sister from Cole).
Michael first meets Brooke in Cole (but Michael can be read as a standalone but I highly encourage to read the prior books because they are just so good!!). Brooke is a single mom of twins, Michael is a bachelor living with his brother. Their connection is one of friends but relationships evolve and grow.
I really wish I could give this more than 5 stars! The character development of both Michael and Brooke with the support of all the secondary characters makes Ms. Sorensen’s book another fine example of excellent writing.

This is the first book that I have read in the Bachelors of the Ridge series, but it can completely be read as a standalone so no worries about that (although I will probably go back and read the entire series at some point)!
The author did an unbelievably phenomenal job with this story and I absolutely loved every swoon worthy romance. When I was first introduced to Michael I wasn't sure if I was going to like him, but as soon as Brooke was introduced I knew he was going to be a new book boyfriend. He was so sweet to Brooke and his kindness and love melted my heart. As soon as I started this story I knew there was no way I was putting it down until I reached the end and that is exactly what happened. It was such a beautiful story that capture my heart and held on for dear life. I cannot wait to go back and see what other stories the author has to offer!
I love it when a strong confident woman slays a man speechless, and can give as good as she gets. These two were perfect for each other. At first I wondered if Michael’s way of life wasn’t the right fit for Brooke, but never judge a book by it’s cover! This single mother of twins was feisty and protective of her babies as well as her extended family. Michael having been raised by a single mother, only had admiration for Brooke and what she wanted to achieve professionally. He was happy to help her reach her goals not knowing he’d fall in love with her and the kids in the process. Definitely worth the read.
I LOVED Micheal. I was so pumped for this book after reading the banter between him in Brooke in Cole. But this book packed so much more than the laugh-out-loud banter, which was definitely there. We see sides of Brooke and Michael that are deeper and mean so much more with each other. The tension between them is epic and I sat on the edge of my seat watching these two battle it out, and then again as I watched them fall in love and learn the hidden depths of each other. Karla Sorensen packs a one-two punch delivering on laughter and love. I couldn't have asked for more from this book.
Honestly, I like Brooke she's strong and all but on chapter 19 onward she annoyed me, she can be somewhat hypocrite. Michael... i really like his character, i can't pinpoint what I don't like about him because overall I like him. For people who saying he's a manwhore did we read the same story?? He just let people thought of that of him, he's doesn't explained or deny his reputation because it's too much work for him, his issues, until he thought of it important and worth the explanation and he come clean to his friends.
Before Karla Sorensen even announced that Julia's sister, Brooke, would be the heroine in Michael's book, I just *knew* she would be when I was reading the previous book in this series, Cole. The chemistry between incessant flirt Michael and gazillion-months-pregnant Brooke in that book was off the charts.
So that brings us to Michael. It's set about a year after Cole and Julia's story. Brooke is a single mom raising her almost-1-year-old twins alone, and Michael is still an undeniable flirt… whom everyone assumes is also an undeniable manwhore. But looks can be deceiving.
Having been raised by a single mom himself, Michael seems to have a soft spot for Brooke, and an unlikely friendship grows between them after he first helps her out of a babysitter jam, then begins construction on her in-home salon. So she can be closer to her kids, of course. Before either of them know it, their friendship has turned into stolen glances and heated thoughts of the other. But then one night, all bets are off -- and so are their shirts, as Brooke and Michael overstep one of their friendship boundaries. And what happens when
The drama that happens between Michael and Brooke felt so genuine, so real. They are both such strong personalities, and together they are even stronger. They really bring out the best in one another, and Michael is so patient and understanding of her life as a single mom. And he adores her kids. That comes across so clearly on the pages. But they are both a little hard-headed, and neither one of them is willing to completely 'fess up about what they are really feeling. Michael has never wanted to step up to the plate for a woman before he met Brooke, and the pain and agony he feels when Brooke doesn't believe him is palpable.
Karla does a great job of really getting to the heart and soul of these characters. The evolution of their friends-to-lovers romance was organic, and I fell in love with Brooke and Michael as they were falling in love with one another. I can't wait to see what Karla has in store for Michael's brother, Tristan, next! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Brooke is a single mom with twins. Michael is Cole's brother and Julia's sister in law who on a whim to help his friends out by babysitting her kids. This leads to him suggesting an in home salon, doing the construction and becoming friends with Brooke who is exhausted and lonely.
In an uninspired twist, the twins' father comes back into the picture for little to no reason except to cause drama.
This is a great fantasy novel for those single moms who need a hot and handy man around the house.
Step aside previous bachelors, I might have just found my most favorite (until the next book!).
First, I have to say that I've been waiting for Michael's book for a while, mostly because I was absolutely curious about him. And having gotten to know Brooke in Cole's book, I was already very much impressed with her, so this book was highly anticipated - and as Sorensen has proven time and again -her writing just gets better.
Brooke's had a rough go at it, left to deal with a multiple pregnancy alone, raise twins alone, and deal with a somewhat crazy family situation, she's got a lot on her plate and no time to add more to it. But when Michael randomly shows up at her home to be a stand in sitter it kicks off the start of something new in her life, something unexpected and hard to let in. Brooke is a strong woman, but even the strongest person has their fears and vulnerabilities.
Michael has never needed to defend himself to others, content enough to let them think what they want rather than show his true self, after all he's never really had a reason not to shrug off the misconceptions - until now. Michael is drawn to Brooke for several reasons at first, the least of which is an attraction to her, but its more than that. He wants to help her, he wants her to see she's someone strong and capable. He wants to give her another person to count on, another friend to turn to.
I loved watching these two grow closer and seeing them fall for each other hard and fast, without even realizing it for themselves. I loved watching as they made mistakes and tried to keep their feelings to themselves out of fear or another misplaced emotion. Brooke's a tough cookie and I love that she wanted to do the right thing for her kids. I loved Michael and his gradual realization that Brooke was someone he wanted to see the true him fully, that he wanted her to trust him and believe in him that she was the one person who fit him.
AS with previous books, I love watching the interactions between all of the friends, seeing former book couples and also those I still needs books for always adds an extra layer of family and bonds to these books. I love watching as they help each other, they listen, offer advice, or just step in and force the group to see what they haven't or don't want to. It never fails to make me feel like they are an awesome group that I'd love to have in my own inner circle.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is book #4 in the series and what was so terrific about this story is it features all the previous couples in the story and we get to see more of their stories as well.
The only thing about this story I hated was that the last book in the series will only be out in the winter of 2018. I am not sure I can make it. It will be Tristan's story. Will it feature Anna? Well I hope not because in this story we see both their characters and I want Tristan to get someone really terrific and Anna has never seemed that great.
And now onto this story. This is Michael's book. Yep I know you know because of the whole title thing but it is more Brooke's book than Michael's in my honest opinion. We have met Michael throughout the series and he is the commitphobe, huge flirt and manwhore type of guy. In this book we discover who he is and who is, is a man who loves all women, treats them with respect and who has flings but he is not a manwhore. He was raised by a single mother and so he 100% respects nd loves women.
Brooke we met in the last book and in Cole's book she helped get her sister, Julia and Cole together. Now this story is her romance and an update on how she is doing with twin babies and no partner in sight. And that is where Michael comes in. He has a healthy respect for single moms and he starts to help Brooke out which also leads to him help her build a beauty parlour in her home so she can work from home.
As he works and builds her this office, well they get to know each other and they fall in such a sweet way. The first sex scene between these two was just wonderfully written. It was fun and tender and while it was hot it was not super descriptive, it was just such an emotional scene you could really feel what the characters were feeling.
As with any relationship there are ups and downs and some exes cause some triouble but I loved how these two communicated and worked things out and how well they really fit together. This book was another wonderully written and emotional story and I fell hard for Brooke and Michael.
This was a cute, if predictable story with rumored player Michael and the new mom Brooke. You probably would want to at least read the book in the series right before this one, Cole, since that's where we learn that Brooke is pregnant and her sister Julia comes back to help take care of her.
Things That Worked: - Brooke was spunky, so she fit with Michael's flirty personality. It was nice to see how he let his guard down around her and left himself vulnerable when he didn't resort to making jokes. - After the stress that was Cole and Julia's relationship in the last book, it was nice to see Michael and Brooke just get along with each other pretty easily. Most of the conflict in the book came from exes, which I didn't mind as much as some of the other Goodreads reviews seemed to.
Things That Didn't Work: - Brooke has lived in Colorado almost her entire life, yet when we met her in the previous book when she was pregnant, Cole, we don't see any mention of any of friends at all. In this book there is some mention that at the salon where she currently works that the people who worked there were younger and she grew apart from them. But what about people that she knew from high school, or from her cosmotology degree, or people that she worked with earlier in her career, or even friends that were mutual with her ex? It seems strange to have no mention of any friends outside of her sister and people she knew through her, even if it's just to say that she grew apart from them because of her life situation with either her break up or pregnancy. But surely one or two of her past friends had young kids that she would have maybe thought about inviting to her one year old's birthday party. I guess this is all just part of how I felt like the world was built around the guys in this story, and the girls didn't feel like they had as full of personal lives. With the previous stories in this series, I think it didn't bother me as much since the women had lived somewhere else recently or were pretty consumed with work or in the first book just had never had a friend.
