Enter a world of smoldering shifters in this scintillating anthology headlined by New York Times bestselling authors Eve Langlais and Milly Taiden with brand-new, never published novellas!

Bearing His Sin
Cole should have killed Anja the moment he realized she was his mate. Instead, he let her live and now they’re on the hunt, chasing the morons who think they can force her to marry another man. Like hell. And while this shapeshifting bear might have his share of sins, he’s not going to let little things like murder and mayhem prevent him from having the woman meant to be the keeper of his heart.

Bought by the Bear
Josilyn Martinez just needed the money to help raise her nephew. That's it. There's no other reason she would take a job posing as a shifter's mate so he can assure his grandmother he's settled down. There's no reason to stay at his place so they learn "more about each other." And there's definitely no good reason she should get involved with the hard, hot, and handsome shifter that's hired her.

Xander just needs a fake mate for a week to get his grandmother off his back. But what's a bear shifter to do when the impostor mate he hired turns out to be his actual mate? All sweet, luscious curves and a heart of gold, Xander's not going to let his mate get away. Now all he has to do is show her that they belong together, one kiss and touch at a time...

The Alpha and I
Devon Kincaid is happy with her new life in Lowman, Idaho. Her little bar on the outskirts of the tiny, isolated town is doing well, and she’s not even interested in finding a man. But when she finds a bleeding man—a hot, hard, handsome, naked bleeding man—in the snow one night, Devon brings him home to care for him. He’s definitely not like any man she’s ever met before, but what she doesn’t realize is that he’s not just a man…

Liam Murphy isn't simply a werewolf. He's the Alpha. In a heated battle with a deadly bear shifter, he's moved his pack to the Sawtooth Wilderness in order to draw danger from them. He was hoping to escape his problems—but the last thing he expects to find in the isolated Idaho wilderness was his mate. Fragile and unfamiliar with the violent supernatural world, the only way he can protect Devon is to make her what he is: a werewolf. He only hopes that in the process convincing her to enter fully into his world, that he doesn’t drive away the one woman he can’t live without.

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

2-3*

Despite the truly dreadful title I still read this book.

Bearing His Sin - 2.5 to 3*

I found this hard going initially in fact after a few pages I couldn’t read anymore. I didn’t like Cole or the way this was written and I’d just about decided to skip this and move onto the next one.
Next day I gave it another try and found that once Anja and more importantly her Babushka appeared I was hooked.

There’s no real romance and it jumps around all over the place, nothing makes sense, it’s a complete mess but it’s funny.

I suspect you’ve got to be in the right mood for this book but if you are it’s a fast crazy read.

Bought by the Bear - 3*

This is what I think of as the perfect 3* read. It’s a nice easy romance, not a book I’ll re-read or particularly remember but an enjoyable one all the same.

Josilyn Martinez needs money and she needs it fast. Not so long ago she had everything, a happy marriage, a good successful job, a nice home and money for extras plus a sister her husband and a nephew.
All that remains now is the nephew. Her marriage, job and money are gone along with her sister leaving her to care for her beautiful nephew Nick.
She’s working a cleaning job but really struggling to get by and so when her friend approaches her with a way to make a lot of money fast she takes it.
Xander Ursi needs a mate quickly to get his grandmother off his back. The problem is he’s a bear shifter and while his one true mate is out there somewhere he hasn’t met her yet. So he arranges for a fake mate and surprise, surprise she turns out to be his one true mate.
I know what are the odds?

This is an enjoyable shifter romance.

The Alpha and I - 2* (knocked a star off for stupid)

Devon Kincaid lives in Lowman, Idaho which is in the middle of nowhere. Problems with an ex resulting in a restraining order made her decide she’d be happier and safer alone.
She’s no interest or expectations of meeting a man out here but driving home in terrible conditions she finds a badly injured naked man.
And it’s not even Christmas.
He’s gorgeous but Devon isn’t stupid (well she is later but early on she seems of reasonable intelligence) so she’s wary. After-all he could be anyone, just because he’s hot doesn’t mean he’s safe.
But despite everything she finds herself drawn to him.
Liam Murphy wakes up injured, fifty miles from home with no idea how he got there. On the plus side the beautiful woman that rescued him is his mate.
Obviously he’s thrilled to finally find his mate but the timing isn’t brilliant since something is trying to kill him.
This was another easy enjoyable read until the TSTL moment. I was incredibly annoyed because I’d quite liked Devon up to this point.
This had been a 3* read but I’m knocking a star off for stupid, I’m sick of it if women were like this in real life hardly any would survive let alone be able to get dressed on a morning.

What I love about these anthologies is that you get a sampler of authors in short novellas. It’s a great way to see if you like an authors work before buying their books. In Thanks Fur Last Night, Eve Langais, Milly Taiden and Kate Baxter each provided us a novella on bear shifters and a werewolf.

Bearing His Sin by Eve Langlais: What I’ve learned about Eve Langlais’ books is that she loves to write the silly, comedic love stories on all kinds of shifters. Bearing His Sin is on the lighter side and was pretty entertaining. It’s over the top silly, but it worked in this story. I laughed a lot! If you enjoy the sillier side, I think you’ll enjoy Bearing His Sin.

Bought By The Bear by Milly Taiden: This story was cute but an average read. I liked that the Hero hired the heroine to pretend to be his mate for his grandma only to find out she actually is his mate. It’s also a rich man, poor girl Cinderella type of story. For a rich man, the Hero was not as confident as I would have expected. He came off more as a boy entering an adult world. This might be one that if extended to a longer story, I would have enjoyed the better developed characters.

The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter: This was a good story but an average read. There wasn’t anything about it to make it standout for such a short read. What you do learn is that it’s well written and has potential to be a great story if it was longer and better developed. Novellas are great but sometimes the shortness of a story makes it feel too rushed. Also, I have to admit that it bothered me that the author forgot about the dog in the story. I’m sure it was an oversite but it made it seem like they just abandoned the dog in a cabin the woods and never went back for it.

Conclusion: Out of all three novellas, Eve Langlais was my favorite. It stood out for making me laugh and kept me entertained with the silliness.

Book 1 - Bearing His Sin
1 star
It was so bad. I'm shocked I finished it. He was horrible. Her grandmother saved it from zero stars. It was disjointed and was all over the place. Then the ending just sucked and then it was left open I guess for another book.

Book 2 - Bought by the Bear
2 stars
There was a better story line, but still lacked a lot. Then ending was just eh. What is it with grandmas? His was hilarious. I'm guessing there's another book with his business partner and cousin hooking up.

Book 3 - The Alpha and I
3 stars
Best of the three stories. Lots of story with an epilogue, but the epilogue sucked.

Three and a half
I do love an anthology and this one features stories from three authors whose work I've previously enjoyed.
Bearing His Sin
I found this snarky pairing to be hilarious. I guess I was just in the mood for characters who some might find downright annoying but to me putting a bear assassin with a fierce woman from the Steppes and adding in a truly cantankerous grandmother just tickled my funny bone. Plus there's a twist in the tale !
Bought by the Bear
Initially a light easy to read story with a young woman ( Josie ) taking a chance but right from the offset things go awry. Xander needs a pretend Mate but hadn't expected to actually meet the woman of his dreams. Problem is he has to somehow convince Josie whilst at the same time find out just who seems to want her decidedly dead !
The Alpha and I
This was possibly the longest offering but honestly I really wish it had been a full length book. A snow clad wilderness reveals a very naked man and what do you know he's a Werewolf! Devon has made a new life for herself and it's one with no room for a new man but darn it not even she can leave Liam outside. Bringing him inside does have it's amusing side ( a distinct lack of items that fit him !) but it's perhaps the least humorous of the three offerings. Still an Alpha Werewolf and a human did actually make for a very interesting story.
So three very different styles are showcased here but if you enjoy paranormal romance and particularly shifter stories then I'm pretty sure there's something here for everyone.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Three shifter romances by different authors with very different plots are included in this collection of novellas which, according to Goodreads, is the first such collection in a new series called ‘Fur’! They are lovely reads for when you’ve not much time or for anyone looking for a taster into this genre.

Bearing His Sin by Eve Langlais is a delightful paranormal romantic comedy that had me laughing out loud at some of the escapades and interactions. Yes, it is OTT but still a story to put a smile on your face and keep it there. I really enjoyed reading it!

The second novella is Brought by the Bear and involves Xander Ursi hiring someone to pretend to be his fated mate - only to discover that she really is! I loved his grandmother and her nephew in this story which is kind of a paranormal Cinderella type of romance. I’d really like to read a novel length version of this story so there would be more time for the author to develop the characters further.

The final novella is The Alpha and I which has an Alpha wolf shifter struggling to defeat the Bear shifters who are at war with his pack. The last thing he expected was to discover his mate is a human, someone who knows nothing of the paranormal world or how to survive its violent turmoil. Deciding how best to protect both her and his pack won’t be easy for Liam Murphy!

I requested and received a copy of this novel. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Bearing His Sins - Eve Langlais - 3 stars
Loved the fast paced antics of this couple as they attempt to stop the person trying to kidnap the heroine. This has a lot of banter, exemplary secondary characters and a nice little storyline. Steam factor is high but late in the story.

Bought by the Bear - Milly Taiden - 3 stars
This one has a bit of a mystery, some action and lots of steam. The dialogue was a bit stilted initially but soon evened out.

The Alpha and I - Kate Baxter - 3 stars
I enjoyed this one with its romantic thriller feel. The heroine did make a decision that made me want to roll my eyes at one point.

Overall, I liked this anthology and each of the stories within. Good for a little taste of each author’s work.

As a whole, I struggled with this one. Each story was just okay, some better than others. Nothing memorable or that I would read again. I was disappointed because I love shifter romance.

Bearing His Sin 2.5
This story was funny, but a silly funny that after a while became really annoying. The story jumped around a lot and I had a hard time staying engaged. I couldn't connect with the characters at all. There were times I thought so where are we going with this? This was just not for me. Sorry to say this was a new to me author that I don’t think I would try to read anything else.

Bought by the Bear - 3 stars
This was better than the first one but still nothing that I would want to reread. I was engaged more with the characters on this one. This also was a new to me author and I’m not sure if I will read anything else.

The Alpha and I - 3 stars
This was the best of the three, but still not up to what I expect from Kate Baxter. I was really disappointed that Devon had a dog and they left the dog behind in a cabin with no heat and wasn’t mentioned again. They didn’t return to her cabin. This really bothered me. I usually really like this author’s writing but was disappointed this time.

I am sorry to say that this just didn’t do it for me.

Three stories, with varying degrees of success, let's dive into this shindig.

Bearing His Sin - 1.5-2 stars
*blinks* I...yeah, I don’t know. There’s some (very subjective) humor to this and if that was all I was interested in, I might have liked it more. But romance is what brings me in the door, and this was definitely lacking. Cole makes some token comments about how Anja’s his, and Anja says she’s attracted to him. But their actions speak louder ….
description

Yeah they’re basically assholes. Both of them. Which, if you think about it make them perfect for each other, even if it didn’t make their romance particularly palatable. I wanted to like this, but it just didn’t work for me.

Bought By The Bear - 2 stars
This story has the same problem I have with most of Ms. Taiden’s books, though I keep hoping it gets better because there’s always something that draws me in. I love her plot ideas. I love that her heroines almost always are confident and curvy. The heroes are fairly standard if serviceable alphas. But then the story itself….it just goes sideways. Her heroes/heroines talk about being attracted to personality, I always seem to say to myself “how do they know each other’s personality? They barely spoke to each other.”
description

Internal monologues do not count as conversations and they spent way too much talking in their own heads or to other people, not to each other. Another story I wanted to love, but it ended up just being an ok read.

The Alpha and I - 4 stars
description
My favorite by far of this antho. I just enjoy Ms. Baxter’s writing, and I thought there was a good amount of information shared regarding this particular ‘verse and werewolf mythology without it feeling forced. I liked Liam and Devon’s chemistry and while I wasn’t as big a fan of the climax (it felt kind of rushed), or perhaps because I was just dying to really like a story, I think this was the best of the bunch.

description
The Bottom Line 2.5-3 stars
Overall, this wasn’t as strong as I hoped. This is a very conditional rec - If you’re a fan of these particular authors, you may enjoy this more than I did. If you're a general fan of shifter romances, I would absolutely recommend the Baxter story, but the other two were just meh for me.

Bearing His Sins by Eve Langlais
~ 5 Stars ~

I loved this short bear shifter read. It was crazy, OTT, funny and captivated me from the first page. I loved Anja, she was a strong heroine and held her own with Cole. They were perfectly matched. Two sides of the same crazy that kept me laughing throughout their short story.

What I loved:
The banter between Cole and Anja, Anja and her Babushka, her Babushka and Cole. Priceless!

Favorite Line(s):
* * * * * * * * * *
"Who wants to die when we can live to cause chaos?"

* * * * * * * * * *
"We should stop tempting each other. Getting involved with me is such a bad idea."
"I've been bad my whole life, so you'll fit right in."

* * * * * * * * * *
"Don't whine like a girl."
Whack. She punched him. Like a man.

* * * * * * * * * *

Memorable Moment:
Their first meeting pretty much set the tone for this read ...
* * * * * * * * * *
Anja: Totally doable. But given his lack of brightness, she worried about him being clingy. best to pass on this one.

* * * * * * * * * *

Cole: .... the woman his bear wanted to lick head to toe. Personally, he'd prefer to just just lick her between her thighs. He did so love honey.

* * * * * * * * * *

Would I recommend? Yes, I loved this short quirky read. Reminded me of a cross between Mr & Mrs Smith and Kresley Cole's IAD series. Definitely a fun read!

SAFETY INFO:

Bought by the Bear by Milly Taiden
~ 2 Stars ~
Both Xander and Josie were okay as MCs but the story for me was too rambly and tended to drag aimlessly a few times. It was a short read but I still found myself loosing interest and stopping only to pick it up again later. What normally would have taken me a couple of hours to read took me two days.

If you've read Milly Taiden before, this is pretty much the same formula. Sexy alpha shifters, some drama, a little snark/humor and hot smexy times.

Would I recommend? For a short easy read, yes.

SAFETY INFO:

The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter
~ 3 Stars ~

I liked Devon and Liam, she was an independent human and he was a protective and possessive wolf, which I love. I can't quiet put my finger on what didn't work for me, just that when it came to an end, I was just okay with it. Nothing really struck a chord with me.

Still is was a lot more action packed than the previous story and both Liam and Devon were well rounded characters. Not sure I'd continue with this series, but this story was a good starting point.

Would I recommend?: Yes, although I found it slowed down a bit towards the middle, the story was still good and kept me well entertained.

In the third story, the main characters abandon their dog in an unheated house, and never come back to him. Seriously. It's a little more than halfway through the story, and the dog is NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN. I would have prefered they took the dog with them on their cross-country blizzard hike and he died of exposure/bear attack than just end the story with no mention of him at all, leaving me to believe he starves or freezes alone. (I mean, he isn't explicitly not-rescued, maybe they came home and picked him up before the epilogue started, but I am unhappy about this.)

A dog is for life, not for 10 chapters!!

ARC REVIEW

I love the punny name. That's probably the thing I liked about it the most. I wanted a review copy of this because I've heard so much about Eve Langlais on Facebook, so I thought why not try it, and while I did enjoy all of them they all felt a little rush, even for novellas. The good thing is that these are all brand new novellas never published before.

Bearing His Sin: Eve Langlais

Probably the funniest one, the two main characters Cole and Anja bicker almost the whole story. They are that one couple who constantly fight but it is obvious that they love each other. His "I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to kill you" running gag reminded me of, "Good night Wesley I'll more than likely kill you in the morning". This was an action packed, humorous but the overall story was just ehh. It did feel like it was being rushed through. Cole is a hitman/assassin scoping out his next job when Anja drops him to his knees, well he falls out of a tree close enough. Anja's crazy Russian grandmother takes a liking to Cole and invites him to the house. Turns out Anja is on the run from a marriage she doesn't want a family that is more than likely trying to kill her. Tired of hiding Anja decides to go back to her home country and make it perfectly clear she is not going to be forced in to a marriage she doesn't want. And because Cole's bear has pretty much already claimed Anja as his mate, he goes along to handle all the killing.

Bought by the Bear: Milly Taiden

Despite having, in my opinion, a horrible title this was really and adorable story. Josilyn gained custody of her nephew when her sister and her brother-in-law died suddenly in a car accident. Their will stipulated she was to gain custody of Nick and not his paternal grandmother who, although has enough money to support him, is incapable of showing and emotion other than disdain. It wouldn't have been so bad if Josilyn's ex-husband hadn't of ruined her career to the point the only thing available to her was with a maid service. Josilyn's best friend found the perfect temp job for her that pays a buttload, enough money to catch up on her bills and then some, all she has to do is pretend to be a mate to a shifter. Xander's plan of a fake mate to show off to his grandmother was full proof, until he realized there was nothing fake about Josilyn. Xander knew as soon as he saw her she was his true mate. All he has to do is ease her into the idea that the mating is real. This was an enjoyable story, I liked it I would be interested in reading other books in this series.

The Alpha and I: Kate Baxter

The longest one in this anthology, also the only one where the bear shifter is the bad guy and probably my least favorite of the three. Not that there is anything really wrong with it I just didn't enjoy it as much as the other two. Devon moved out to Lowman, Idaho to escape an abusive relationship. Liam was out having a normal run with his pack when they were ambushed the next thing he knows he's waking up in a house fifty miles from where he started. Devon rescued the bloodied naked man from the blizzard and brought him home, only he has no idea how he got there. The chemistry is palpable between Devon and Liam but Devon has been burned in the past and is a little wary about anything now. When a body is found in the park Liam can guess what happened and with another blizzard on the way he can only hope they can make it to his pack in time before the vengeful bear shifter catches up to them.

There is another anthology coming out later containing book two of these series so keep a lookout.

Even though I don't normally like to read novellas, usually because they are too rushed, I have to say I really enjoyed this paranormal anthology. I had previously read and enjoyed books by Eve Langlais and Milly Taiden but Kate Baxter was new to me. All three shifter stories were the perfect length, just enough for a good story and character development so that I didn't feel cheated as I often do with novellas. A great introduction to the work of all three authors if you've never read them.

Bah. I just couldn’t with the “alpha” and “mate” world building. I mean fair enough I guess but the sex was few and far between and the characters a bit flimsy. And if I never hear “Gods!” in a breathy voice again it will be too soon.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: https://romancingthereaders.blogspot....

One of the things that I really love about anthologies is that you can get a quick feel for a new author or get a short story from a author you love to tide you over till their next book comes out. Either way, it works for me. Thanks Fur Last Night is part of three anthologies book coming out. I'm thinking each individual story is part of it's own three book series.

I've read two of the three authors and I will admit that out of the two I read I only liked one. Not that I let it stop me from really enjoying and getting into the full book. I planned on reading the author I liked, skipping the author I didn't care for before and reading the new to me author.

You know what they say about best laid plans and all that.

So I started with Bearing His Sin by Eve Langlais. I haven't before read here but have seen her books around and often thought about it. I have to say, this is the one that I really didn't like. I can't say I found one thing about the story enjoyable. I didn't care for the characters or even the whole idea of the story.

This didn't bond well for the rest of the book. I was really worried because I knew that out of the other two authors I only liked one.

Because I didn't care for the one Milly Taiden book I read I skipped her story and moved on to Kate Baxter's story next. I already had enough disappointment with the first story.

I ended up loving The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter. It was kinda a given since I already like her. The Alpha and I is a wonderful romance with a bit of a mystery in it. Or maybe it's more suspense. Either way, I really loved this story. Laim is hot and you are so happy that Devon has found him. Wait till you read how they met! This story sets you up to want more of this group.

So far I have one story I didn't care for and another that I loved. I already knew that I didn't care for Taiden from the one other book I read of hers and I was going to pass on her but then I thought about the fact that I'd be reading the next two books for only Baxter and decided to give Taiden's book a try. That thought made me feel better about agreeing to review this book.

Bought By the Bear by Milly Taiden turned out to be very enjoyable. Imagine my surprise when I started reading it and really enjoyed it. I really liked the idea of the story and the characters are funny, touching and there is so much love to go around. I am so glad that I read it and I can't wait for another installment.

As a whole I really enjoyed this book. Two out of three that I liked is pretty good odds.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I haven’t bought this one yet, but I will, probably in paperback.

The cover is great and what attracted me to the book first, but then I saw who the authors were and had to read it!

I loved this book! All 3 stories were excellent and action packed.

Bearing His Sin by Eve Langlais picked up after Alpha’s Mate with the guy in the tree. Anja and her grandma are full of spunk and attitude which makes some things very humorous. Secrets are coming out that don’t make Anja to happy, and Cole stays by her side through it all with his own snarky humor about killing her. Great story with an HEA!

Bought by the Bear by Milly Taiden is a great story where Josilyn is having a hard time making ends meet, so her bestie gets her setup up to be mate for hire for a week when her nephew is away with grandma. She needs the money, so she does it reluctantly. Trouble ensues when she is attacked. Full of mystery and treachery that her and Xander must figure out together. Great action packed story that made me happy with Josilyn getting her happy ending with her nephew and her mate!

Alpha and I by Kate Baxter is full of excitement and trouble in the snow with shifters. Devon saves a naked man in the snow, but trust doesn’t come easy. This was an exciting read, and the difference between werewolves and shifters in this story was unique at least to me it was.

Overall 3 fabulous stories from 3 fantastic authors that I love reading! I can’t wait to read more from all of them!

I highly recommend to any shifter fan who wants 3 fabulous stories with romance and HEAs!

Shifters! I love 'em and I get a kick out of watching them fall all over themselves when they find their special someone.

Bearing His Sin - I'm a big Eve Langlais fan, so Cole and Anja's story was a hit with me. Both of them are a little feral, a little crazed, and a little bloodthirsty. Well, more than a little on that last part. They fight. They flirt while fighting (heck, often while fighting with one another). They aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. I have to say, I liked them!

Bought by the Bear - Well. By contrast, this story felt disjointed. While Xander and Josie weren't exactly unlikable, things happened that made no sense to me. Sudden attacks by random shifters (how'd they come into contact with the person who set them on their path, anyway?), followed up by the revelation someone was playing a VERY long con. Everything was tied up TOO nicely with some of the reveals and I had a hard time following along with some of the choices the characters made.

The Alpha and I - Sexy shifters in the snow. Yep, I have a weakness for those guys. Liam certainly hits all those buttons. Devon, meanwhile, takes the sudden revelation that there's a whole lot more than humans out there pretty well. What can I say? I liked these two. Sexy times in an isolated cabin do it for me.

Great read

This is absolutely worth the read. In this, is three books by three great authors. Each book contains a HEA and scorching hot love scenes. Each book has its own great story. It was just absolutely great. I loved each book. I would recommended this book if you love shifters, kick butt heroines, and the bad guys who try to keep them apart.

Thanks Fur Last Night is a compilation of three novellas by three well-known and best-selling authors. Unfortunately that does not make for three great stories.

This is definitely a mix of good, bad and just barely OK; and not in that order. I’m not going to draw this review out, other than to say that Kate Baxter’s contribution ‘The Alpha and I’ is the saving grace of the collection with a story I wished had of gone on longer, which is the only reason this book rates a there star review.

Thanks Fur Last Night anthology

Bearing His Sins by Eve Langlais
A bear shifter assassin and a Russian mob princess make this paranormal romance quite an adventure. Often humorous and sexy, the pace is fast and fun. Meeting a mate can turn your life upside down.
Excerpt for writing style:
“I’m pretty sure this oak hates me. Which is pretty shortsighted of the tree, given she owned an axe.”

Bought by the Bear by Milly Taiden
A fake mate for the bear shifter? Nope. Trust the world to throw a curve ball.
A lot of hot and heavy sex along with f**king, both in dialog and deed. That’s the mating instinct.
With a change in perspective, the author takes a couple of steps backwards in time. While it makes sense to cover what happened with each in that timeframe, it temporarily pushed me into confusion until I readjusted.
Bottom line steamy and campy and brazen.

The Alpha and I By Kate Baxter
A naked werewolf can’t hide anything from his mate. But now the danger is stalking closer and he will do everything in his power to protect her.
A bit more tension along with suspense in this one. And an alpha that puts himself in harms way. Stupidly in my opinion. But that’s what made it suspenseful.

REVIEW
I approached reading these novella's with trepidation as I know through checking on Goodreads that both Eve Langlais and Milly Taiden have series that are classed as erotica and it is a genre I usually steer away from, but this anthology is listed as paranormal romance and it was suggested I may enjoy it as I love shifter books so I decided to give it a go. For Kate Baxter I have found her books listed as paranormal romance so feel I should certainly get along with her novella okay. I haven't really read anything before by these authors but decided this Anthology would be a great way for me to try out three new authors.

The cover background has either an ocean or lake with a bear splashing his way through it, this part of the cover could certainly fit a scene from within the first novella by Eve Langlais. In the foreground of the cover is a rather passionately kissing couple. I love the title with the play on the word Fur/For. I immediately understood it and it made me smile and want to know more about the anthology.

The various genres I have seen listed for this anthology are Paranormal, Fantasy and Romance, Anthologies and I agree with those genres. I would also add it to "Novella's" as the Anthology is made up of three novella's.

I think the blurbs for each novella give away enough about them so my reviews are merely my personal thoughts and views on the individual title.

Bearing His Sin by Eve Langlais

So I'm being totally honest, as always, this did have rather explicit or what I term as erotica type descriptions which at time were a little off putting, but I guess that's down to my own personal reading preferences and my personal comfort zone. I found this novella a bit slow to start off, and felt it jumped about a bit too much and was in my opinion fragmented somewhat. I stuck with the novella and in the end I found a fairly good read. Would I want to read more titles by Eve Langlais . . hmm maybe.

Bought by the Bear by Milly Taiden

This novella was a faster paced read and even though it had some steamy hot scenes they were so well in context that it felt "right". I loved the character of Josilyn, how she is working a quite literally back breaking job to feed herself, but more importantly her nephew Nick, whom she has cared for since his parents died in a car accident. I adored the way the once womaniser Xander was totally out of his depth with Josilyn. I did really enjoy this novella, so much so I've put some other titles by Milly Taiden on my Want To Read List already! I really didn't want this novella to end!

The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter

This novella was also a really good read, enough to make me check out the authors other available books too! I love that Liam the Alpha werewolf who is used to everyone doing as he tells them without question has to try and go against his alpha nature and not just tell Devon how things are going to be. I liked the element of the whole will she choose to become a werewolf and the process and was a little disappointed when we didn't get the whole bite scene etc. The third novella in this anthology and the second one that I didn't want to end. I could imagine reading a whole series about the fantastic shifters in this novella!

So the anthology as a whole was a really good one. I've discovered two new authors I'd like to read more of. I usually avoid anything that has been labelled erotica like the plague but the publicist that recommended these authors to me thought I would love this anthology, so I decided to give it a go, not knowing what to expect and ended up with a great surprise read and a couple of authors I maybe wouldn't have given a chance before.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing this anthology were, Will definitely be checking for other titles by these authors. This anthology definitely allowed me to indulge my love of the werewolf & shifter genre.

BEARING HIS SINS by Eve Langlais... 4.5 stars
Cole is a hired assassin, bear shifter and is hiding in a tree to kill a man. He is startled out of the tree by a woman. His bear knows immediately that she's his mate. Anja is from Russian descent and about to shoot Cole. They go back to her farmhouse where she lives with her grandmother, who is a crackerjack.
Cole and Anja go to Russia to put a stop to the man who keeps trying to kidnap her and marry her. Her grandfather meets them at the airport and drops a couple of surprises on her. When she's kidnapped, Cole will do anything to get his mate back.
Funny with a crazy grandmother and a wild, sexy killer. One phrase kept getting repeated over and over which was a little annoying. But all in all it was a good story. Steamy sex scenes.
---------------
BOUGHT BY THE BEAR by Milly Taiden... 5 stars
Josie is divorced, raising her dead sister's son. She is barely making it when her friend gets her a job as a pretend mate to a bear. Xander is rich and a bear shifter. His grandmother wants him mated and settled down so he goes to a match making agency. The moment he sees Josie, he and his bear is his mate. Someone is after her and Xander will protect her with everything in him.
Smoking hot scenes, a crazy ex, and a mischievous grandmother and friends. I love Milly's stories and this is one of the best.
---------------
THE ALPHA AND I by Kate Baxter.. 5 stars
Devon left an abusive relationship and moved to the woods, runs a bar, and lives in a little cabin with her dog. While driving home on a snowy night, something rushes out in front of her and causes her to lose control of the car. Once she gets it back in control, she gets out and looks around. She finds a naked man with blood on him. She takes him to her cabin and waits for him to awake.
Liam is a werewolf and Alpha of his small pack. They moved from their home because a bear shifter was trying to kill him. He doesn't remember everything that happened because his wolf is keeping it from him. One smell of Devon and he knows she's his mate. Convincing her is going to be difficult. Once she sees him turn, she is shocked and amazed.
When Liam realizes the bear will come to her cabin, they start out for his pack in a snow storm. The bear attacks him and he gets away. But Liam knows the only way to keep Devon safe, is to turn her. Can he convince her to make the change and live her life with him?
First time reading this author and I really enjoyed it. Sex, shifters, and romance. An alpha male and a strong woman who are perfect for each other.

Thanks Fur Last Night is a collection of shifter stories bringing us fated mates as growly bears and hunky werewolves find themselves faced with the one who is their other half.

Overall, I enjoyed this collection of stories. Some more than others but I think all three authors will be authors I'm going to want to read more of.

Bearing His Sins by Eve Langlais
Bearing His Sins is a fun and sometimes wacky romp when a brash young woman bursts into the life of an shapeshifting bear assassin who is deciding whether to kill her or keep her.

I gotta say, for the better part of the book, I had no idea what the heck was happening beyond some crazy banter going on between Anja and Cole, and men with guns trying to either kill or kidnap Anja. It was all kinda hard to tell. And honestly, I'm not sure if I liked how wacky it all was. I mean, some of it was funny, but it was more a shaking my head, wondering what the heck was going on in a weird kind of funny, rather than a ha ha, rolling with laughter kind of funny. Still, it was an entertaining read once you got past Cole and Anja's antics.

I liked Cole. He's a no nonsense, straight-shooting kind of a guy. He's blunt, direct and honest. And he's also big and intimidating, what with being a bear shifter and all. And I loved his profession and the way he went about doing things. He was a man of means and ability. And while Anja didn't always need protecting, he was able-bodied and protective. I loved when Cole came to the rescue. It was satisfyingly efficient and impressive.

As for Anja, I'm not sure I liked her all that much. I didn't dislike her, but she was much too brash and outspoken for my liking. Don't get me wrong, I like a sassy and strong heroine as much as the next person, but boy, did Anja have a mouth on her. It didn't work for me when she kept trying to top Cole. It's not a character trait I like in a heroine.

I've read other books by Ms Langlais before and enjoyed them so I'm certain I'll be reading more of her from her extensive backlist in the future.

Bought By The Bear by Milly Taiden
Bought By The Bear is a fun, sexy story of a bear who finds his one true mate through an arrangement with a fake mate and the woman who becomes his whole world.

I loved this story. It was so much fun. The hint on danger and mystery surrounding Josie certainly got me curious as to what was going on. That was a rather strange plot twist that kept things thumping along.

I loved Xander. He's such a great guy. He's kind, charming and sexy as heck. And so adorable when he was being growly and frustrated by his mate who didn't understand how a fated mate bond worked. I loved how Xander was not afraid of letting his feelings show and being demonstrative about them. Definitely swoon-worthy!

And Josie was so sweet and caring. I loved how much she loved her nephew and how hard she worked. My heart broke for her at how much she suffered. And even with all she suffered, she never stopped being loving, kind and wonderful.

This is my first time reading Ms Taiden's writing and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading more of her. In fact, I think I have some on my Kindle that I should go look up.

The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter
The Alpha and I brings together an Alpha werewolf being hunted by an enemy and his very human fated mate who is thrown into the midst of the conflict simply for being his mate.

Honestly, I wanted to like this story a lot more than I did but the storytelling seemed a little stilted to me and I had a hard time connecting with Devon.

Devon is very independent. After a rather difficult relationship which caused her to leave her home and move to Lowman, Idaho, she's turned her life around. Her life now revolves around running her bar and caring for her dog, Mac, and very little else. It's a safe, comfortable life. Until she rescues Liam one snowy night. Then everything changes. While I admired Devon for her independence and her strength, I got annoyed at her stubbornness. Particularly, at times when things got dangerous and Liam wanted them to get to safety. Instead of complying, she argues with Liam. And when Liam wants to do something to ensure her safety, she decides to distance herself in order to think about it, in the face of a terrible danger coming after them. Gotta say, I have to admire Liam for his patience with her and he makes a lot of allowances for her being human. I would not have been quite so understanding. Mostly, I wanted to shake her out of her stubbornness and tell her to get with the program.

I liked Liam as an Alpha werewolf, strong, able, protective and determined to keep Devon safe while he is being hunted by an enemy. I suppose things are a lot easier for him to grasp because he is a werewolf and he understands the life and the dangers surrounding that life. I loved how tough Liam is and how quickly he healed. The supernatural aspects of him being a werewolf drew me in.

I also enjoyed Ms Baxter's world building a great deal. Even though this was a short story, I did not feel as though she rushed or stinted on the world building and I felt like I understood how everything and everyone came to be. How shifters and werewolves co-existed and how the supernatural beings of the world operated. I felt like I was falling into a very well-established world.

This is not the first story of Ms Baxter's I've read. It will not be the last.

I’m a sucker for a punny title so I immediately snapped up Thanks Fur Last Night when offered by St. Martin’s Press. To my delight, the first book in the anthology was by Eve Langlais. No one writes snarky, sneaky heroines and crazy over the top alphas who banter and insult each other without blinking an eye like Eve Langlais. Bearing His Sin was one of her snappiest, with a rude bear-shifter assassin lumbering and lusting after a foul-mouthed farmer girl. This was snort-your-drink-out funny and made me want to re-read my Eve Langlais e-library.

The following two stories, Brought By The Bear by Milly Taiden and The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter, had sweet, protective shifter alphas wooing sweet, innocent humans; a very different turn from the sarcastic violence of the first story. They were enjoyable but suffered in comparison by following the explosively funny of .

4 stars for Bearing His Sin + 2 stars for Brought By The Bear + 2.5 stars for The Alpha and I = 3.5 stars

“Bearing His Sins” by Eve Langlais
Hands down the best short story is “Bearing His Sins” by Eve Langlais. Cole’s witty banter with Anja was smoldering. I also liked Anja’s grandmother.
Anja is a Russian mafia princess, and some asshole is trying to force her to marry him. Cole finally finds his mate and he is not going to let someone take her from him. This story was sexy, funny, and action-packed. I can’t wait to read more.
Bought by the Bear by Milly Taiden

This is another good read. Josilyn just got out of a messy divorce and she is now raising her nephew Nick. She is having a tough time lately and she needs money now. Xander is just trying to get his grandmother off his back about settling down so he hires Josilyn to pretend to be his mate, however, she is actually his mate.

The Alpha and I by Kate Baxter

This is another very good story. I Devon finds a wounded man and she brings him back to her place to care for him. Liam is a wolf shifter and an Alpha at that. He never expected to find his mate in Sawtooth Wilderness and now he has to convince her to enter into his supernatural world.

This was a fun cohesive anthology by three talented writers. All three stories held the same feeling…part humor and part suspense, so you didn’t have to regroup when starting the next story. I liked that a lot. Eve Langlais’ BEARING HIS SINS had some quirky characters and fun banter. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the author sent a curveball. I liked that, along with the smoking hot romance. Milly Taiden’s BOUGHT BY THE BEAR was a fun, fast-paced sexy romp. The dangerous excitement blended well with the sexy romance between Josie and Xander. I wish it was longer! Kate Baxter’s THE ALPHA AND I, wasn't as humorous as the others, but it blended so well with the other stories, I didn’t skip a beat. It was a sexy, action packed romance that kept me turning the pages. A nice fast read.

After I read some books about shape-shifter, I was THRILLED to read this one.
But...BUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT (it's a really big BUT)

Sorry. I didn't know if those were serious (fantasy) stories.
The first one was so complicated. People arguing and babbling all the time. That should be funny but it was annoying.
The second one was a little better, but.. REALLY?? That reason for all that attack ? Nope.
The third one, I had the feeling the beginning was the same I read in other books .

Too bad. I really love this genre, usually makes me laugh, but this book made me feel bothered.

Bearing his sins- Eve Langlais 1 star

I had an instant dislike for the hero and the heroine wasn't wise enough for me to compensate for it and too arrogant too. The instant lust doesn't seem believable in the circumstances either. I mean, the guy was trying to kill her first and it's dirty talk and lusty looks after two and three lines exchanged between them. I found the rest of the story equally far-fetched. There's absurd and then there's over-the -top absurd. I think it might work better for you if you read this one with comedy and erotic in mind but not romance and if you don't mind the chauvinist attitude of the hero.

Brought by the bear-Milly Taiden 2 star

An another story on the comedic side; an other story that didn't work for me. To be honest, I enjoyed it at the beginning because the characters was more likeable and the story seemed less crazy but the outcome with the heroine's ex was so far-fetched it ruined everything for me.

The Alpha and I- Kate Baxter 3 star

Is it because it had a more serious tone and plot that I prefered this one ? I think so. But also because the heroine was smarter and reacted more like a normal human being would in her situation. I liked her sass too. And the city where she lives felt like an other character so it felt to me like a story, an universe more accomplished than the others.

Even if this book was a disappointment, I don't consider it a waste because it now allow me to confirm that humoristic shifter romance/erotic stories are not my cup of tea. I tried a couple times but now I can say it's not a genre I'll pursue.

thanks fur last night by Eve Langlais, Milly Taiden and Kate Baxter.
Cole should have killed Anja the moment he realized she was his mate. Instead, he let her live and now they’re on the hunt, chasing the morons who think they can force her to marry another man. Like hell. And while this shapeshifting bear might have his share of sins, he’s not going to let little things like murder and mayhem prevent him from having the woman meant to be the keeper of his heart.
a good read with likeable characters. had to put down a couple of times but I read it all. bearing his sins
bought by the bear
the alpha and I.
This was 3 stories in one. even though the first one was slow I really enjoyed the other 2. so 4*.

After reading The Big Alpha in Town, I wanted to go back and find the preceding stories from that anthology. My local library luckily had a copy of this anthology, but I was so unmotivated to read it that I had to renew the copy I had checked out 3 times before I sat down to read it! That did not bode well for me actually enjoying this book, and I was unfortunately right, especially in light of how long it actually took me to read this once I got started on it!

Bearing His Sins - Eve Langlais - 2 stars
The worst story of the anthology by far! While I enjoyed Anja's snarky nature, I have to agree with other reviewers that there wasn't much romance here. The story was slow moving and often boring. Was the stumbling block of the book for me, though Anja's grandmother really brought it up from a 1 star rating for me!

Bought by the Bear - Milly Taiden - 4 stars
Arguably the best story in the anthology! I loved Josilyn as a character, and loved how Xander treated her! Story felt a bit rushed at the end, but would definitely like to read more in this universe!

The Alpha and I - Kate Baxter - 2 stars
Another boring story! Things weren't well explained, there was no real romance, and I really could care less about the characters! The only thing I really enjoyed about this story was the descriptions of the setting, as I could really envision the characters acting and reacting within it!
